2011 Chrysler 200 Review: Bad Year For The Cheap And Unreliable Used Car

Alex Showalter
Mar 12, 2022

The 2011 Chrysler 200 only lasts around 150,000 miles with major engine and electrical problems. At $5,842 – 7,940, it’s not worth the money given the high ownership costs.

Powerful performance from the V6, safety scores are great and the cabin is quiet.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Interior materials are very cheap, the cabin is small and the base engine is weak.

Is the 2011 Chrysler 200 a Good Used Car?

  • No, 2011 is a year buyers should avoid. We have received a lot of negative owner reviews mentioning drivetrain issues, worn out alternators, and suspension failures.
  • Reliability ratings are poor with a lot of engine problems. Models from 2011-2013 all have a lot of problems, and we recommend going with 2014 and newer.
  • Two engine options including a fuel-efficient 4-cylinder and powerful V6.
  • Fuel economy is bad at only up to 24 MPG combined.
  • Chrysler 200 was discontinued after the 2017 model due to poor sales.

It is fun, it is fast, it is perfectly accessorized and I love it!
I love my Chrysler 200! I am 6'1 and it is always hard for me to fit into sedans and being as I drive this everyday it is actually a really comfortable ride! There is plenty of front seat and back seat room for passengers. I love my touch screen radio and the various accessibilities of my steering wheel! It is also really fun to drive as it is just enough power and just the right size for me to conquer Houston traffic! I would suggest this car to anyone little or big family!

Great and reliable tires.
No problems since I first got it, very fuel efficient and reliable, as long as you keep up with the basic care of a car it will not fail you. It is also very spacious and roomy inside. Smooth riding and I have absolutely no complaints about it and highly recommend it as well.

It is good commute for work.
There is nothing currently wrong with my car I have never had any problems with it besides the alternator and serpentine belt. It was a very cheap fix the car is very reliable.

Beautiful, spacious, comfortable ride.
Excellent car. Rides smoothly. Complete comfort for everyday use and vacations. Great on gas mileage. Smooth cruise control. Easily able to see through windows, from all angles of the driver seat. Excellent trunk size. Convenient for carrying groceries or luggage. Low cost for parts and regular maintenance.

Looks showroom new! Fully loaded and no problems at all in all.
Heated seats, lumbar auto support, electric start. Handles beautifully in all weather. 2011 and no rust or auto problems at all! Sleek and reliable. I would recommend and or buy another. Defroster works great. Looks showroom new still. Great audio! Can control all on steering wheel.

Chrysler 200 amazing vehicle.
The only problems I have with my car is the mileage, as the mileage goes up, like with most vehicles, the more problems arise. But the foremost part I absolutely love my car. The added Bluetooth and phone settings is amazing. The seats in the car are extremely comfortable with added seat warmers as well. The car is quite spacious but also very compact and easy to drive. The way the driver's seat moves is mechanical and it is very easy to use.

Do not purchase this car!
Right when I bought it (around 60k miles), I had to replace the throttle body. My alternator went out at 80k miles. My transmission is currently going out (90k miles). My car fan also randomly started clicking on the front passenger side (90k miles) which probably means the motor is going out. Overall this car has turned me off to all Chryslers. Not just 2011 Chrysler 200 touring.

Do not buy unless enjoy spending money and constant work.
Just had to put a new engine in it and multiple other expensive issues, control arms, tires, ball joints. Even the most basic fix or change is made 100 times more difficult by the cars design.

Terrible car
This car is terrible. It is the worst car I have ever owned. There are too many problems for a car that only had 10000 miles when purchased and now has 77000 miles after 6 years. I have had heater problems almost from day one. Every year the heater has to be repaired. Brakes wear out and have to be replaced frequently. Too many problems to list. I would never buy another Chrysler or recommend to anyone. The best thing that they did was remove this car from the market and no longer manufacture.
accountCircle Zaria S
I would never waste my money on another Chrysler.
When I first received the car, it was used. A week after my purchase I was already having some hesitation, but still, I kept the car. The first year were just a few problems here and there--tires popping, the car jolting, etc. The next year is when all of the real problems occurred. First, the radio stopped working. Next, the driver window stopped working. Then all together the car stopped working. It was like one problem triggered everything. I do not trust my car to get me anywhere without the fear of breaking down. I, personally, would never purchase another Chrysler again.

Dont buy this..
I have had so many issues with this car. Alternator went out while I was driving 70+ mph. Currently the car wont start. I put the key in and turn it. The lights come on but a dont get even a roll over attempt. Just silence. I had to call in to work due to being stuck at walmart... There were a few recalls early on that i got fixed before anything bad could happen. Do yourself a favor... Dont buy it. Nothing but headaches.

Don't buy a Chrysler! You will regret it! You pay too much for parts as well as the car and it's not worth that much
I really don't like the car! I have had so many problems with it since leasing it. The parts for my vehicle are very expensive. I already had to change the alternator, every 6 months buy new tires, it's so much maintenance.

Less than 65000. Miles and had to replace front wheel bearings. Convertible top rattles, and not much space inside the car.

As a Chrysler 200 reaches 100,000 miles owners should prepare to replace catalytic converters for $1,700, thermostats costing $500, and power steering hoses which cost $300.

Very reliable no problems what's so ever. Gets me to where I need to go and very fast. Good mileage very comfortable and also roomy.

accountCircle Misty G

Yes many problems. For the 1st 7 years it was amazing. Then my alternator went out, my battery went out, my heater core went out and now its making a horrible jerking noise. I have a short in my lights on the dashboard and the dealership can't figure out the issue.

accountCircle Lynn M

The suspension is known to go out, I have seen several vehicles with the same problem, although it is a easy fix.

accountCircle Ernst K

Mine has been reliable for me. I have only had it a few months but I have not had any issues outside of normal maintenance.

accountCircle Bill H

Yes it is very reliable, as stated before the transmission slips from time to time. Other than that I have no complaints

There are two engines available in the Chrysler 200, including an efficient 4-cylinder and more powerful V6. Performance is good, with the V6 taking only 6.9 seconds to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour.

  • The base engine is a weak 2.4L 4-cylinder with only 173 horsepower.
  • An upgraded powerful 3.6L V6 with 283 horsepower is available on the Touring, Limited and S models.

What Colors Does the Chrysler 200 Come In?

How Big Is the Chrysler 200?

The Chrysler 200 is a midsize car offered as a sedan and convertible. Passenger room is cramped in the backseats since they’re smaller than rivals including the Mazda6 and Fusion.

Cargo space is okay and will fit 3 suitcases in the 13.1 cubic feet of space in the trunk.

Centered wide dash shot

How Does the Chrysler 200 Compare to the Competition?

The highest rated competitor is the Subaru Legacy, which costs around $1,000 more. Where the Legacy stands out is with more technology and standard all-wheel drive, but the Chrysler with the V6 is more powerful. We recommend the Legacy since they have fewer problems.

Another rival is the Honda Accord costing over $1,200 more. The Accord offers better passenger room and safety features, but the styling is better on the Chrysler. Overall, between the two cars, the Accord is a better choice with a lower cost of ownership.

Basic. Nothing special. CD player, aux connection,
It is a good car. Runs decently well. My problem is that everything is hard to get to. Battery is in the wheel well and you have to take off the bumper. Other problems, alternator went a few years after I got it. One wheel bearing has gone, and one caliper as well.
accountCircle Bruce D on June 16, 2021
Great to purchase new, but not used.
Front bumper cover must be removed to change headlamps, which, in many cases, cause the clips holding the bumper cover to the fenders to break off. Leading to bumper cover sagging away from the fender. To change the battery, the left front wheel must be removed and the wheel well cover must be removed. Transmission is balky. Surges, misses when coming out of passing gear, jumps at times shifting up and down.

The vehicle likes to act up after the motor is over a hundred thousand miles. It is great on gas until the Cadillac converter does not work anymore then it starts consuming more and more gas progressively over to use. Overall it is a good reliable car until it has over a hundred thousand miles.

Gas mileage is very good for those who drive a lot. Car is small if you do have a family making it tougher to drive with little ones. Trunk is also small. Car is great for those who drive solo or with one person. Will save money with gas as the gas mileage can get above 30 on highway.

This car is really cute and comfortable; a great choice for your first car.
For being about 9 years old, this vehicle is in great condition and runs really well. It has about 43,000 miles on it and I have had no problems with it so far. The engine is a bit loud, but that tends to happen with Chryslers. It still runs really well, and does not eat up gas too horribly. It has a 21 city mpg and about 30 highway mpg.

My car is great on gas. It's a great everyday car gets me from work and to school. It even got me out of town a few times. My vehicle is very comfortable, especially the driver seat, which is very adjustable and allows me to not only move it up and down, backwards and forwards, but also to tilt the seat. Pros and cons of 2011 Chrysler 200.
The pros of the Chrysler 200 includes great ac that can get as cold as bone chilling cold. Also. The heater works excellent during the cold winter days with immaculate defrost features. The car rides as smooth as new given that the tires are kept rotated and balanced. There are a few downsides of the Chrysler 200. One con is that sometimes regular maintenance is required as far as frequent oil changes. In essence, if you travel a lot then look to spend a lil more for oil changes. Also, some of that parts on the car can be hard to get to such as replacing a headlight bulb. Overall, the vehicle is great.
accountCircle Charis R on March 10, 2021
It's a cute car and I love the built in NAV and all of the other amenities (heated seats, seats are adjustable on three planes, the lights inside are bright, wheel controls for media and volume, and the headrest leans almost all the way back).
The cavities of the doors fill up with water when it rains! I hear the sloshing and it drips off the corner of the door when I open it. I got it used so maybe there's damage but it's very annoying and concerning.

Chrysler 200: good or bad.
Have had the car for about 5 years, was used. After a while the car does not drive as smooth as it does and the car shakes a little bit if you brake too hard. I have had several issues with the vehicle, to include the transmission, air conditioning, air bag, radiator. I have put about $10,000 into repairing the vehicle. I will never buy another. I have had nothing but issues with it and would not recommend that anyone buy it.

Feelings about a new car!
I have brought this 2011 Chrysler with only 79000 miles and it was a little rusty from sitting but I paid 700 to get it tuned up and it runs great. The a/c takes long to kick it but other than that I love it. I would definitely recommend this car to a family member.
