2014 Chrysler Town & Country Review: Upscale, Comfortable & Powerful Minivan

Alex Showalter
Oct 5, 2022

The 2014 Chrysler Town & Country lasts around 200,000 miles with average oil and computer problems. At $11,025 to $13,300 it’s a great value for a luxurious minivan, but be prepared for some high ownership costs long term.

likeFilled The Good
Interior materials are much nicer than other minivans, the stow ‘n go seating works great for cargo and its V6 engine is powerful.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Missing some of the latest safety technology, ownership costs are higher than average and the transmission shifts slowly.

Is the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country a Good Used Minivan?

  • Overall Rating 7/10 – 2014 is a good year for the Town & Country although it only deserves an average score since there are still computer problems. Owner reviews praise the van’s space, power doors, as well as the strong V6 engine.
  • Interior, Comfort & Cargo 8/10 – Interior materials are upscale for a minivan with standard leather, the seats are comfortable like a recliner, cargo space is also excellent.
  • Reliability 7/10 – There are still some computer issues with the 2014 Town & Country which aren’t as widespread as earlier years. Buyers should avoid 20102012 We recommend buying a 20132016, which are more reliable.
  • Performance 7/10 – The V6 engine found in the Town & Country offers good power, although it’s still a heavy minivan.
  • Safety 7/10 – The 2014 Town & Country gets 4 out of 5 stars in government crash tests. Standard safety tech includes a rearview camera with an optional blind spot monitoring system.
  • Gas Mileage 7/10 – Fuel economy is average at 20 MPG, giving 400 miles of range from the 20 gallon gas tank. Gas costs are $10 cheaper than average, at $249 per month.
  • Value 7/10 – The 2014 Chrysler Town & Country is a good value for the amount of luxury. If you can find one with under 100,000 miles, it should last you a long time.

Family friendly vehicle for you

I love the way the back windows actually go down. I dislike the gas mileage that I get while driving around town.

It is cost effective for a family vehicle. It is efficient to transport and maneuver. It's good on gas, which is excellent in today's economy.
I bought this vehicle because I have 5 children. I chose it for the flex fuel. This was a very good choice to haul my babies around in.

My Favorite Features about the Chrysler Town & Country.
The Town & Country is a very reliable vehicle The seats are so comfortable and the kids can watch their favorite movies on the dvd player. My favorite feature is that everything can be controlled by the push of a button on the remote key. Great vehicle if you have kids.

Great family car! Designed with the consumer in mind!
Love my town and country because it Is Designed with the consumer in mind. It handles the road well, seats 6 comfortably, has ample storage in the back end and in the floor, and makes driving a car full of kids easier and more fun with the built dVD player.
accountCircle Pamela A
A vehicle for fun or work.
I like the stow and go seats. They are easy to get out of the way for use as a cargo van. I also love the DVD player. It is a handy item for entertainment while waiting for someone. This model gets good mileage on gas. I have not had any problems with it. This model also has an abundance of cupholders. There is a lot of storage for all sorts of things.

Never buying again
The Town and Country was good for a few years, and then we started having trouble with the sliding door. They charged $185 just to check it out. Then right before 100k miles, the check engine light came on. It appears one of the valves in the engine is damaged. Not a big deal, if the warranty hadn’t ended at 60 months. These cars are unreliable, and I will never buy one again. I should have listened to my friends and family, and never purchased this vehicle. If Chrysler believed in their products, they would have extended the warranty for 72 months. They knew it would fall apart, and you will have to pay a ton to get it fixed, or be forced to buy a new vehicle.
accountCircle Heather M
Great for hauling stuff & kids, but too noisy and too many electrical issues
The car is loud on the interstate when we travel and it is hard to hold a conversation. One of our sliding doors malfunctions on a regular basis... Either popping back open just before it shuts or not shutting all the way and making annoying noises. It also rusted very quickly in several different spots, which is just strange. It is comfortable and we love the stow and go and seating arrangements in the van.

That it doesn't seem to be made very well.
I like the space but too many things are starting to go wrong with my car.

My 2014 Chrysler town and country minivan gets great gas mileage and drives well
Needs an option for center 2nd row seat. The stowaway compartments are just a pain to use. A great feature would be vinyl floors instead of carpet. With minivans you know children will be the main passengers so being able to clean it more easily would be huge. Carpet is hard to maintain.
accountCircle Carey C
It's really cramped. If you have a larger family avoid this vehicle
It is very cramped. There is not adequate leg room.
accountCircle Deborah G
Adapted van has it is drawbacks.
The van is adapted for a wheelchair which means it is low to the ground. It is very challenging to maneuver and is greatly affected by windy days. Also uses a lot of gas.

Gas mileage is good compared to other minivans similar to it
Love the features of this vehicle but have experienced several issues with maintenance and difficulty finding parts for this vehicle.

Town and country highlights.
Drives smooth, dual DVD players for 2nd and 3rd row passengers. Automatic doors that freeze shut during the winter months. Remote start makes up for not having seat warmers. Automatic wipers that adjust to the rainfall. Blind spot indicator. Small trunk, easy sto and go seating.

What Do Critics Say About the Chrysler Town & Country?

  • Consumer Reports says the Town & Country has a quiet, well-equipped cabin, along with average owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Town & Country at 4/5 praising the standard leather interior, but doesn’t like the rough transmission.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Town & Country a 3.9/5 enjoying the good technology, although owners don’t like that it only carries 7 people.

What Common Problems Does the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country Have?

Common problems found on the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country include a cracked oil filter housing, computer problems, and bubbling paint. Overall, the problems are slightly more severe than in other minivans from 2014, with higher repair costs, too.

A cracked oil filter housing is a common complaint from owners at around 95,000 miles. The plastic housing simply wears out as it gets older, leading to cracking. Replacing the oil filter housing costs about $750, depending on local labor rates.

Computer problems with the totally integrated power module (TIPM) are another issue reported by owners at around 35,000 miles. The TIPM is a known weak spot across many Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep models. Replacing the TIPM costs around $1,200.

Bubbling paint is also mentioned by Town & Country owners at around 65,000 miles. Paint in areas where roads are salted may start to corrode as the van ages. The only way to fix the problem is to repaint the affected areas, which costs about $1,000 per panel.

There are 3 average recalls on the 2014 Town & Country. The most serious recall is for the window switch, which can overheat. Chrysler will replace the switch on all affected minivans. Other recalls cover the tire pressure monitoring system and optional fire extinguisher.

How Long Will the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country Last?

A well-maintained 2014 Chrysler Town & Country should last around 200,000 miles, which is about 100,000 miles less than the highly-rated Toyota Sienna. Regular annual maintenance costs are higher than average, according to data from Repair Pal, at $608 per year.

Since most 2014 Town & Country models will have over 100,000 miles buyers should be prepared to replace the A/C drier assembly for $250, intake manifold gasket costing $475, and the radiator fan which costs $700.

This van is a reliable vehicle. I haven't had problems other than my radio/nav system going out and the sliding doors freezing shut when it is extremely cold.

accountCircle Kim M

It is very reliable. I feel safe and secure when traveling with my 4 children. I've never had any problems, other than a flat tire.

accountCircle Jessica K

It has been very reliable. We have only regular maintenance on this vehicle and we have owned over a year.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is better than average in the 2014 Town & Country with a standard 6.5-inch touchscreen stereo system and rear-seat DVD system. Safety technology is okay with a standard rearview camera along with optional blind spot monitoring along with rear cross-path detection systems.

Is the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country a Good Value?

Yes, the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country is a good value for the nice interior. Blue book prices range from $11,025 to $13,300, making it cheaper than a Honda Odyssey yet more expensive than a Nissan Quest. When new, the price range was $30,765 to $41,995. Depreciation is worse than average, losing about 12% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Chrysler Town & Country?

There are four versions of the Town & Country offered in 2014, from the base Touring to the luxurious Limited.

How Much Storage Space Does the Chrysler Town & Country Have?

Cargo space is great, there’s enough room for 5-7 suitcases behind the third row, 10-12 behind the second, and over 20 suitcases with all the seats folded flat.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The fifth generation of the Town & Country was introduced in 2008 and discontinued after 2016 due to declining sales.

2010: Active front seat headrests added.

2011: Minor exterior styling changes, improved cabin, and new V6 engine.

2012: Standard leather seating and available rear-seat entertainment system.

2013: Upgraded rear entertainment system, rear USB ports added, trailer sway control added.

2014: No major changes.

2015: New entry-level LX model and features moved around in models.

2016: Final model year for the Town & Country with new Anniversary Edition package.

How Does the Chrysler Town & Country Compare to the Competition?

The Chrysler Town & Country focuses heavily on luxury compared to other minivans on the market. Ultimately, if you choose the Town & Country, you’re trading some reliability for a more upscale interior.

The Toyota Sienna is another minivan which costs about $4,000 more. Safety technology is better in the Toyota Sienna, while the Chrysler Town & Country has a much more luxurious interior. We recommend the Toyota Sienna for most people since they have better long-term reliability ratings.

The Ford Explorer is  a three-row SUV, which costs about $4,500 more. Technology and off-road performance are both better in the Ford Explorer, but the Chrysler Town & Country has more passenger room. We recommend the Ford Explorer unless you need the extra passenger room found in the minivan.

Yes I love it I love the stow and go seats the most. It is roomy and easy to put the seats up and down for hauling things. Quite a bit of storage behind seats and in the stow and go compartments.

accountCircle Amy O

This car is one of the best family cars I have owned. I love that it has stow and go seating to make traveling a breeze with my large family, or quickly put the seats down to move and transport larger items. This vehicle has enough room for all the kids and dogs, along with enough cargo space for all their gear. We are a family on the go, from soccer, football to girl scouts we have enough room to transport several team members and their gear. We have also taken this vehicle on several cross country trips to visit family, and we can all travel comfortably, and the DVD player helps to keep the kids entertained.

Pay the extra up front so you don't have to pay way more over the life of your vehicle
I purchased my 2014 T&C in 2016 with about 35,000 miles on it. Selling point for me was the stow and go seating, interior room, and that it was cheaper than other makes/models in its class. Van was ok for the first 50,000 miles but after that it became one thing after another. Coils went bad at 75,000 miles while on vacation three states away. Interior trim began falling apart (had to glue the door and window seals back to the frame), seats began peeling, sliding door motors on both sides had to be replaced several times as well as a belt, transmission had to be replaced, among a long list of other things. I hit the 175,000 mile mark a few weeks back and had it back in the garage for more repairs. Mechanic was frankly astonished I got that far with it as he said most T&C's he's serviced tend to kick the bucket around that point. Looking back I wish I had paid more up front for a Honda or a Toyota as I'm sure that would have saved me more in maintenance costs over the seven years I've owned this vehicle. I prefer to drive a car until it drops, was hoping to get around 250,000 miles with this one. That's just not gonna happen. This is the last Chrysler product I will ever buy.

2014 Chrysler Town and Country
80,000 miles, new transmission, leather interior with entertainment package to include blu ray, and DVD player and navigation. Vehicle has power doors, windows, and driver seat, with dual climate control in the front and back. The vehicle on average gets roughly 22.5 miles to the gallon on the highway and 18 miles on city streets.

It breaks a lot and isn't that old. Transmission has went out. Doors have broken. Lots of cosmetic issues.

Must have vehicle for a family.
This minivan has excellent storage. The option to fold down the middle or third row seats is a game changer. I have been able to transport a fully assembled garden bench. The only downside to this vehicle is that it does not get very good gas mileage but there is an economy mode option to help with gas consumption.

Can put a lot of stuff on trips in this van!!
The overall performance is excellent, style is not the top feature for me, reliability is key, this is the third Chrysler van we have owned and have put over 250,000 miles on each one with basically no trouble. Mileage is terrific on the highway, my dogs love to be able to lay down on trips, and I can still fit luggage, golf clubs, fishing gear dog stuff and snacks. Bluetooth is easy to operate as are the gauges.

Great driving vehicle with lots of convenient options.
We have owned our town and country for over 4 years and have added 70,000 miles to it. We have only had one major issue which was with the emergency brake which was covered under warranty. All other cost has been from normal usage. The vehicle drives good and is comfortable. The gas mileage is decent around town but much better on the interstate. It has power windows, locks, and doors. There is a DVD player and Sirius XM access. There is access in the back for HDMI, av, USB, and a 3 prong plug. The seating can go from 7 to 2 with storage space in the back within 3 minutes without removing any seats. All seats lay flat in the floor of the van.

Great and reliable family van
This van has been great! It has been so reliable, and hasn't needed much work at all besides just normal wear and tear. We love the stow and go seating throughout. We have had this van for 4 years and have put over 100,000 miles on it, and have had no major issues. Even when we do need fixes, they are small and haven't cost too much to fix. The only problem we have had is that some of the trim has fallen off the outside of the van, and the cover for the driver side seat controls fell off pretty easily. Other than that this car has been a real lifesaver for us, since we have three kids and spend a great deal of time in the car!

Minivan for moms- making traveling easier.
The Chrysler town and country has many features that make traveling with children so much easier than your other competing mini vans. The stow and go seats are a huge plus. I can easily and quickly put all the seats down to carry large items, and just as quickly get them back up for passengers. The DVD system is another plus. The kids love watching movies, and with their headphones I can still have the radio playing. The van is also great on gas mileage. I have, though, had engine issues. Dealing with corporate Chrysler has been less than helpful in that situation.

We love the van mostly because of its Versatility including stow and go seats. The extra lighting make it useful on road trips. We also can tow stuff up to 3500 pounds. I have owned my town and country for 18 months and absolutely love it. Haven't had any issues at all. It works great with my two small children in car seats.

Others should know that this car drives very well and fits large families very well.
The vehicle is very dependable and has excellent space. It drives well and is well-suited to my needs. No complaints.

It has a lot of room for teenagers and also has DVD player which keeps them occupied on long trips.
I like that I have room for everything. I never have to consider that something might not fit. I also like that my teenager has plenty of legroom in the backseat for long trips.

It's convenient for three young children
I dislike it because it is not very comfortable. The seats are very hard. I do like that the two middle captain chairs fold down into the floor. That way if they are not folded down, you can use that area as storage

Perfect for the busy family in the go who wants style & comfort.
I love the look and functionality of this vehicle. It is great for a busy family and offers spacious seating and ample trunk room for busy families in the go. The stow and go feature is amazing when going on a long trip to store extra things you may need to bring. Having the ability to also put the seats down inside gives you flat space to cart oversized items if needed. A few things I do not like are some of the finishes seem to be cheaply made and have cracked or broken. Also I have a lot of blind spots in this car.

It will carry seven people and has room for cargo.
It has great room for anything. Has enough power to pull a trailer. Has seats that fold down if you need more room
