2010 Dodge Charger Review: Dependable, Spacious & Powerful Sports Sedan

Alex Showalter
Aug 24, 2022

The 2010 Dodge Charger lasts around 200,000 miles with some minor engine noise and alternator issues. At $6,780 to $9,844, it’s a fantastic value for a sports car with plenty of room for a family.

VehicleHistory Image
likeFilled The Good
The larger V8 engines offer excellent power, the suspension is comfortable on the roads and the cabin is roomy.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The V6 engine uses a lot of fuel, the base materials are very cheap compared to rivals and the steering feels loose.

Is the 2010 Dodge Charger a Good Used Car?

  • Yes, 2010 is a good year for the Charger. Owner reviews praise the spacious cabin, powerful V8 engine options, and the low ownership costs.
  • Interior quality is poor, there is a lot of cheap plastic and basic cloth trim used throughout the cabin, and the stereo system is very basic.
  • Reliability ratings are average for a sports sedan. Models from 2009-2010 are good choices, with a surge in problems showing up on 20112014
  • Performance is bad from the standard V6 engine, but the larger V8 engines offer excellent power for a sedan.
  • The 2010 Charger is a safe vehicle, getting a perfect 5-star overall rating in government crash tests, and getting 4-stars in rollover risk.
  • Fuel economy is worse than other sedans from 2010 at around 21 MPG, which should get owners about 378 miles of range out of the 18 gallon gas tank.

It is a dodge charger! My dream car!
I have had my white 2010 dodge charger for a year, it is low to the ground, but not too low. It has a wide front end. I have new tires on her, do all regular maintenance. She had an alternator go out. Fixed that. I am more than happy w her reliability and handling.

Fast and fun, with a clean muscle look.
The Dodge Charger with a V8 Hemi is the only way to go! It's fast, fun, comfortable and has an eco button for economic driving, only 4 cylinders are used instead of all 8! The interior is very comfortable, it feels solid and safe! I also love the fact that it is a retired police interceptor so people often times move over a lane for you, not knowing it's a civilian driving!

Not so great in the winter. Gas maybe spend about $25 on gas.
It is in good condition. It not very good on gas. It great sports car and has a speaker hooked up to the back of the car. The comfort is very comfortable and you can put decals on the car and got a small scratch on the right side because some hit it with a grocery cart.

VERY spacious interior. If you don't need all the room it feels unnecessary to get this car.
I like the space on the interior of the car. I don't like how hard you have to press down on the pedals. But I do like how the car handles speed. Very good radio factory system, needed no upgrades. Also it's been great on mileage and gas, I commute a lot to work and the ride has been amazing so far.

My silver 2010 dodge charger.
My car is really great. It has plenty room inside. It is so comfortable. The doors are electric. There is a huge trunk with plenty of room. My car is a beautiful silver. With black interior. There a bucket seats in the front. With a triple seat in the back with a drink holder that can fall down in the back in the middle. It is a strong car. To me if I was in a little car compared to my car I feel a lot safer in my car. Now as far as the motor, I change the oil every 4000 miles. I have now 150,000 miles on it and I have had no problems. This is a very good car.

One of a kind and beautiful!
I love my Dodge Charger! It has been a very reliable car, and besides a few bumps in the road (oil change, battery replacement, etc.) I haven't had to replace much. My charger has over 150k miles and she's still going strong. The interior and exterior have held up well, and I still consider my vehicle aesthetically sound. I highly recommend and Dodge Charger for an everyday vehicle.

Couldn't pick a better vehicle than the charger when it comes to performance, reliability and comfort.
The Dodge Charger is a reliable vehicle. It is roomy and comfortable. Have had it 7 years and have not had major repairs or problems.

2010 dodge charger sxt review: expensive parts and unreliable.
I have experienced a lot of electrical problems since I bought my 2010 dodge charger and no one seems to be able to fix them. I have gone through 2 new alternators and 2 used ones, plus 2 new batteries. I wanted to get it for the looks plus I thought it would be easier and less expensive in case I needed to replace a part since it is an American car but to my surprise dodge parts are just as expensive as Lincoln. Cadillac for example. It is not worth it.
accountCircle Jon R
Used cars get beat up please beware.
There's a problem with the oil pan due to bad service jobs over the years stripping the screw sockets. I have had to replaced all of the tires on the care shortly after buying due to a faulty valve in the system. It was just a bad buy from a used car service. I will not name who they were.

This vehicle is not recommended due to the inconvenience and inconsistency.
It sucks! There is always something wrong with it but it gets me where I need to go. I have tried to get it fixed on numerous occasions and I have even attempted to sale it. I had no luck so I wouldn’t do anything but keep getting it fixed. Overall I like the car for a quick drive but I wouldn’t recommend buying it.

There are a couple recalls on the Dodge chargers. Most importantly a front airbag recall.
I like the power it has for a V6. But don't really like the front end feel and interior noise.
accountCircle Anita M
Although there are many external problems with my car, it is a durable car and it hasn't given me any trouble while driving.
My car has a salvaged title on it. There are a few problems with it. There is a huge tear in the driver's seat. There is also a crack that goes across the window. The front bumper is falling off and is being held up by tape. Other than that, it's a good vehicle. I wish it got better gas mileage but it is a type of muscle car so the mileage isn't that great.
accountCircle Debbie K
It is gorgeous and an eye catcher.
Makes a weird sound but good looking car. It gets good gas mileage. It has great leg room and it is easy to park.
accountCircle Ken M
The dodge charger is a tough vehicle and can take a beating.
Requires a lot of maintenance. Depending on the previous owner determines the shape it is in when it gets to you. People who own chargers drive them hard as a result the vehicle does not long. That being said take care of the vehicle. Tends to be hard to control in the rain.

Very reliable car that always gets me where I need to go.
It's a very reliable vehicle. It has held up over a few years through some abuse. Very easy to fix. Can be expensive if you don't take care of it.

What Do Critics Say About the Dodge Charger?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2010 Charger sounds tough driving down the road with the V8 engines, and has average owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds gives the Charger a 4.6/5, praising the spacious cabin for a sedan, but doesn’t like the subpar power from the base engine.
  • Kelley Blue Book users rate the Charger 4.6/5 and enjoy the performance from the V8 engines, but owners don’t like the low-quality interior.

What Common Problems Does the 2010 Dodge Charger Have?

The most common problems found on the 2010 Dodge Charger include excessive engine noise, alternator failures, and slipping out of gear while driving. Overall, these problems are similar to other sports cars, and repair costs are a bit more affordable than rivals.

Excessive engine noise is the most widespread issue reported by owners at around 60,000 miles. The source of the problem is usually an issue with the spark plugs or coil packs. Replacing the parts costs about $400, depending on local labor rates.

Alternator failures are another issue that shows up at around 65,000 miles on some Charger models. If the alternator fails then the battery will not charge, and it will have to be replaced,  which costs about $550.

The transmission slipping out of gear is another complaint mentioned by owners at around 120,000 miles. A slipping transmission is usually a sign of a problem with the gears and rings. Repairing and rebuilding the transmission can solve the problem, and costs about $1,200.

There are 6 recalls, which is average for a car from 2010. The most serious recall is for the ignition module, which can allow the vehicle to be turned off before it is in park, and is replaced by a dealership for free.  The other recalls cover a wheel nut and air bags and are not much of a concern once they’ve been changed out.

How Long Will the 2010 Dodge Charger Last?

A well-maintained 2010 Dodge Charger can last around 200,000 miles, which is close to other sports cars like the Ford Mustang. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other American sports cars as well, at $537 per year, according to Repair Pal.

Since most 2010 Charger models will have over 100,000 miles buyers should be prepared to replace items including the oil pressure sensor for $200, oxygen sensor costing $280, and the exhaust manifold which costs $550.

What Colors Does the Dodge Charger Come In?

How Big Is the Dodge Charger?

The 2010 Dodge Charger is larger than other sports cars, and close to other full size sedans including the Chrysler 300 and Chevrolet Impala. Passenger room is fantastic in the front and backseats, with enough legroom for adults.

Cargo space is good for a sports car but small for a big sedan, with enough space for 4-5 suitcases in the trunk.

VehicleHistory Image

How Does the Dodge Charger Compare to the Competition?

The 2010 Dodge Charger is a practical sports car with enough space to fit a family, and it also has the power to keep up with many of the sports coupes on the market.

The Dodge Challenger is the closest competitor, costing about $4,000 more. Performance is a bit better in the Dodge Challenger, but the Dodge Charger has more passenger room. We recommend the Dodge Charger if you need the space, otherwise the Challenger is more fun to drive.

The Chevrolet Camaro is another rival, which costs about $3,000 more. Steering and handling are both better in the Chevrolet Camaro, but the Dodge Charger has a nicer interior available with more space for passengers. We recommend the Dodge Charger for 2010 since there are a lot of engine problems on the Chevrolet Camaro.

Do Owners Recommend the Dodge Charger?

Yes, the dodge charger is a good vehicle. The up keep on the vehicle is very easy. I had my car for 5 years up to year 3 was the year I finally had some issues to repair.

accountCircle Matthew T

Yes the 2010 dodge charger is a great vehicle. It has the best of both worlds. You have enough power to get up and go if you wish but it also has great gas mileage. It's nice and sporty, it has great handling, its rear wheel drive, and the 3.5 liter engine will let the tires loose if you so wish. I live mine and if you get one you will love yours too.

accountCircle Vonda B

Yes this car is reliable. The only thing we've done to it so far is hard to get new tires, brakes and rotors. It is definitely better than or truck.

accountCircle Fabian P

accountCircle Tu P

Yes it's a wonderful vehicle I have not had any trouble with it and I almost been having it for a year now

accountCircle Jared C

Yes, it is still in great condition almost 10 years later. Though the mileage per gallon is not great, it has almost 200k miles on it and has never given me any problems. I would highly recommend.

accountCircle Jason H

Yes. Has never let me down. It has good pick up when I need to get ahead in traffic, I believe it has good gas mileage, and the are still working. I have driven it from Miami to Naples Florida and one day for many days in a row and it still manages to take a pretty good road trip

I bought my 2010 charger/Hemi/ fully loaded,11mth ago. I love this car ,it’s beautiful, When I drive by it turns heads. The only things I’ve found wrong, With it is the drivers side seat, has to holes from worn spots in it, And the cup holder is chipped around the top. And the CD player doesn’t want to load up , quickly ( sometimes) The only thing I don’t like is the key pod, I have 2 keys & only one of them controls everything. & there so expensive to replace& I’m always misplaying my keys! I do not have any vehicle problems. But when buying a car you have to make sure you get it check every few months due to any problem it might have. Make sure to check the oil constantly and also to check your tires as well. Having a car is very high maintenance.

Ups, downs, and all-arounds.
The stock engine does not have a lot of acceleration so it is lacking in go power. 2010 models are too old to have any Bluetooth features. But the driver seat has electric adjustment and there is an auxiliary port for mobile devices. All in all it is good.

Nothing Beats The Awesomeness You Get From The Power Of That V8 Engine
I Love the feeling I get the moment I get in my Dodge Charger R/T. Nothing beats being able to open up the moon roof, and roll down all the windows to hear the roar of that hot rod engine. The looks I get just driving down the road says it all. You can feel the power of the Hemi from under the hood while being engulfed by the wrap around you leather seats. I bought my car used in 2014 and besides basic tune ups, until this year I have not had to do any major repairs when I had to replace the alternator. There are of course little quirks/bugs like any automobile. The control switches for the power windows either stick sometimes or have finally gone out.

My dodge charger gas meter.
This car has been very reliable. It has been very roomy for my children the trunk is a good size. It is a gas hog though and my gas meter is currently not reading correctly so that is a bummer and it is going to cost me around 500 dollars to fix which is unfortunate.

Dodge charger: the best of the best.
Have encountered no problems with my dodge, and the performance is incredible. It is the most reliable car I have ever owned, and it never broke down on me. I am feel fully comfortable and safe. I would recommended this car to anyone with enough money.

Very reliable and comfortable ride.
A very reliable car. As long as you perform regular maintenance, car will run for 200,000+ miles. Vehicle runs very smoothly and quietly. Car does lack power, so if you are looking for a fast vehicle, this car is not for you. Overall a great vehicle and I do not regret purchasing it.

Runs smooth and fast.. Loud car. Very spacious.
It's a nice car... Does not waste a lot of gas but Does get pricey. Very comfortable and smooth to drive. A very spacious car. What I love the most is that you can charged your phone or any device without having to have the car on that is a big plus for me.

Dog Charger is a great car with great style and features.
Dodge Charger is a great car. All leather interior. 2 bucket seats in the front with middle console. Full beach in the back with a drop down console. Full size truck. Handles great. Tight steering.Responds well. Front and side airbags. Sun roof. Plenty of interior space.

2010 dodge charger. Awesome car!
Car drives really smooth. It also does really good on gas and can get up and go when you need it to. Very popular car and also looks really nice. Good for a family of 4 but may want to consider something bigger if you go beyond two people in the back seat.

Dodge charger interceptor.
It is a great car that goes fast. The only problem I have had is when getting parts needed at the auto store, they are sometimes unsure of what to give for an interceptor. I haven’t had any mechanical issues with it except the radiator. Since fixing it, there has not been a problem.

It's a good vehicle every now & then. It come in handy. It burns gas alot.
Its my sister vehicle honestly. I don't drive it. She drive it. It's been keeping up for awhile. It burn gas fast, be having to put more money in the tank. Been having issues lately but we try our best to make sure the car stay in good conditions. Other than that, that's all I had to say about it. Thanks for looking & reading what I have to say!

A family sports car: dodge charger.
It runs very smooth and we have no issues driving the car. Gas goes a little quick, but it is a nice family sports car. It is very roomy in the back. We love the sunroof and the features the car comes with. It is a comfy car to drive with your family. If you want something sporty and fast I would defiantly recommend a dodge charger.
