The 2020 Dodge Journey lasts around 200,000 miles, with some average brake wear and wheel hub issues reported. At $17,700 to $26,998, it’s a good value for a midsize SUV, although it’s outdated.

The suspension is smooth on rough roads, the stereo system is easy to use and ownership costs are lower than other SUVs.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The engine is weaker than many competitors, the cabin has a lot of cheap plastic parts and the steering feels loose.

The highlight of my vehicle is that is from my favorite car company. Dodge.
I love my car. I love that it was new and I got to put the miles on it myself. I do not have one single problem of course for now (just kidding). I love my new SUV I went into the dealership to buy another one but by the time I got there it was sold upon me sitting in my salesman’s chair. I told him if he couldn't put me in a journey I was leaving and it happen. I love my SUV as I have a child and currently expecting this is the best choice ever.

More space, safe on gas, clean and fresh no trash.
I really like driving in this car, convenient has 7 seats, clean and fresh and also save on gas, still has few miles on it. That is all, oh so grateful for it, never think I will drive on a 2020 car, what I like most is more space and seats for me, my husband and my kids whenever we went on a drive all of us can go.

A very awesome affordable ride.
I love my new journey, it is a comfortable ride. Rides smooth, it is equipped with a backup camera, has third row seating. I have 3 charging ports, 1 aux port and 1 USB port. The dodge journey is very roomy on the inside. Am/FM/CD player great stereo system! Has a rear window wiper and hot heat and cold air.

The extra storage space that it has comes in handy.
I absolutely love my car! But the only thing that I don't like is how it doesn't really take off when I am trying to speed up to try and pass a car. But the performance is great! So much car space and the perfect family car with the 3rd row if needed. When it's hot outside it cools down pretty face and when it's cold it heats up pretty good. I love that it has climate control on both sides.

With space and performance my family loves it.
The only issues I have is trunk space and legroom. I understand it is a nice family car which it is for my family. As the kids get older I would need more space in between the rows to accommodate the growth. Besides that this is a very nice vehicle.

More of a crossover in size with the 3rd row up cannot fit anything in the back.
I have three kids, 9, 4, and 10 months, this is not big enough for us. Also it does not have hands free calling for cell phones I thought all cars now days did! Right after buying my back windshield wiper and front driver wiper broke... Not think the front one ever worked. Gets horrible in town mileage.

2020 dodge journey: good for a smaller family; not great on storage.
This is a great reliable vehicle. I get around 22 mpg. There is not much storage at all, so if that is what you are looking for this is not for you. My teenagers fit well in the 2nd row, and my younger are fine in the 3rd row. We are a family of 6, and fit comfortably. My only complaint is the lack of storage.

2020 dodge journey, comfortable ride.
Does not support Samsung. Does not have Bluetooth capability. Very spacious and comfortable to drive as well as ride in. Minimal road noise. Gas mileage is decent at 25 mpg highway. Speakers and sound system is good. Useful to haul medium sized loads.

2020 dodge journey seats 7.
Our dodge journey has given us very few issues in the last 9 months! Driver and passenger seats are comfortable! I love the air control feature for the backseat and that there is vents above the back seats! This is great for rear facing infants! Things we do not like: 3rd row really does not have leg room! When 3rd row is up there is barely enough trunk space for an umbrella stroller. Ac fan is loud!

What Do Critics Say About the Dodge Journey?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Dodge Journey rides well with a relatively quiet cabin, while getting average owner satisfaction scores as it ages.
  • Edmunds rates the Dodge Journey at 4.1/5, enjoying the very affordable purchase price, but doesn’t like that the base engine is outdated.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Journey a 3.7/5, praising the comfortable seating throughout the cabin, but owners don’t like the lack of driver assistance features.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Dodge Journey Have?

Common problems found on the 2020 Dodge Journey include excessive brake wear, noise from the wheel hubs, along with some stereo system issues. Overall, these problems are similar to other SUVs from the same year, leading to average repair costs as the Journey ages.

Excessive brake wear is the most widespread complaint on the 2020 Dodge Journey, showing up within the first 12,500 miles. The brake pads tend to just wear down quicker than in other SUVs. Replacing the brake pads costs around $200, depending on local labor rates. If the rotors are damaged, they cost an additional $400.

Noise from the wheel hubs has also been reported by 2020 Journey owners at roughly 20,000 miles. The wheel bearings wear out quicker than on some other vehicles, and have to be replaced. Changing out the wheel bearings costs around $350 since there’s a decent amount of labor involved.

Stereo system issues are another complaint from some Journey owners within the first 1,500 miles. There are software updates for the stereo system, which improves its reliability. Most dealerships will update the software for free, while others charge around $50 for labor.

There are no recalls on the 2020 Dodge Journey, which is better than other midsize SUVs. Since there are no recalls, it simply means that there have not been any widespread issues which have affected the safety of the SUV.

How Long Will the 2020 Dodge Journey Last?

A well-maintained 2020 Dodge Journey can last around 200,000 miles, which is shorter than some other SUVs like the Toyota Highlander. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other midsize SUVs, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $515 per year.

As a used 2020 Journey reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history report, owners should be prepared to replace the variable valve timing control solenoid for $175, knock sensor costing $255, along with the brake master cylinder, which costs around $300.

How Is the Technology?

The standard entertainment technology is very basic and only has a relatively small 4.3-inch touchscreen. Optional upgrades include a much better 8.4-inch touchscreen along with a more powerful audio system.

Standard safety technology is also worse than some competitors and only includes a rearview camera and rear parking sensors. There are no optional advanced features available.

Is the 2020 Dodge Journey a Good Value?

Yes, the 2020 Dodge Journey is a decent value since it’s cheaper than most other midsize SUVs on the market, although it’s very outdated feeling. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $17,700 to $26,998, making it less than a Jeep Grand Cherokee or Subaru Ascent. When new, the price range was $23,675 to $28,595. Depreciation is similar to other SUVs, losing around 7% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Dodge Journey?

There are only two versions of the Dodge Journey offered for 2020, from the SE Value to the Crossroad. All models come standard with front-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive was discontinued for 2020.

SE Value  is the entry-level model with:

  • SE Value Popular Equipment Group
    • Power driver’s seat

What Engines Come In the Dodge Journey?

The 2020 Dodge Journey offers only one engine option. It’s powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 172 horsepower. This engine is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, which is a bit dated compared to the transmissions found in many of its competitors. As for fuel efficiency, the 2020 Journey with this powertrain has a combined fuel economy rating of 21 MPG. Regarding performance, the 0-60 MPH acceleration time for this engine is not particularly quick, with estimates ranging in the 9-10 second bracket.

What Colors Does the Dodge Journey Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Dodge Journey?

The 2020 Dodge Journey is designed with comfort in mind, especially for families and those who spend a lot of time on the road. Its cabin is spacious, accommodating up to seven passengers across its three rows. The seats are cushioned and provide adequate support for both short drives and longer journeys. The vehicle offers an elevated driving position, giving the driver a clear view of the road ahead. Rear passengers, especially those in the second row, will find ample legroom.

The third row, as is typical in many crossovers, is best suited for children or shorter trips due to its more compact nature. Features such as multi-zone climate control further enhance the comfort levels for all occupants. However, it’s worth noting that some reviews have mentioned that the Journey’s interior materials and finishes aren’t as upscale as those in some competitors. Overall, the 2020 Dodge Journey offers a pleasant and comfortable riding experience for its occupants.

How Much Storage Space Does the Dodge Journey Have?

The 2020 Dodge Journey offers a spacious interior designed to meet the needs of families and those with an active lifestyle. With all the seats in place, the Journey provides 10.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. While this might not sound expansive, it’s enough room for grocery bags, small luggage, or day-to-day items. For larger cargo needs, folding down the third-row seats expands the storage area to 37.0 cubic feet, suitable for larger suitcases, sporting equipment, or a stroller.

If even more space is needed, with both the second and third rows folded down, the Journey boasts an impressive 67.6 cubic feet of cargo space. This generous room can easily accommodate larger items like bicycles, furniture pieces, or camping gear. Apart from the main cargo area, the Journey features multiple small storage spaces throughout its cabin, including door pockets, a spacious glovebox, and in-floor storage bins, making sure passengers have plenty of places to stow away their personal items.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The first generation of the Dodge Journey was launched for the 2009 model year, and was discontinued after 2020.

2015: Has all of the same features from the 2014 model.

2016: No updates or changes from earlier years.

2017: Flagship GT model replaces the outgoing R/T.

2018: Third-row seating is now standard on all models.

2019: SXT model was discontinued, more features added to the SE model.

2020: Final model year for the Dodge Journey, entry-level model renamed to SE Value, V6 engine removed from the lineup.

How Does the Dodge Journey Compare to the Competition?

The 2020 Dodge Journey is a decent midsize SUV built for buyers on a budget, but it’s clearly outdated and obsolete, which is why 2020 was the final model year for the Journey.

The Dodge Durango is a larger SUV offered by Dodge, which costs about $4,000 more. Passenger room is much better in the Dodge Durango, while the Dodge Journey has a smoother suspension. We recommend the Dodge Durango since it’s a more up-to-date SUV.

The Jeep Cherokee is a slightly smaller SUV offered in the same price range. Standard technology is better in the Jeep Cherokee, while the Dodge Journey has a bit more passenger room in the second row. We recommend the Jeep Cherokee since it has more features for the same money.

2020 dodge journey! The car for your family!
This SUV is a great family car safely took us out of state twice and up the mountains multiple times! Fits eight people total which is amazing! Or you can have your pets join in on your rides! Not only does it sit eight people, but you can also put down the seats so you can pack the whole car when moving!

Great third row car perfect for a family.
Well the first day I had it brand new off the lot it leaked out all the power of steering. They were able to weld it back and fill it up to drive correctly. It is a basic model for a family on a budget. I love that it has three row seats which is perfect for larger families or longer road trips. The gas mileage is also very good for how big the car is.

Very updated car that is reliable, attractive, and easy to drive.
This is an amazing car. When we went car browsing we had things in mind of what we wanted but the dodge journey blew it away, the black is so nice and elegant and easy to clean. We love that their is wipers on the back windows as well. When you put the car in reverse you have a backup camera show up on your mirror, it is not too big but is still very easy to look at and is very clear in picture. It has three rows so very spacious for a family. It is touchscreen, making it easy to pick which station you want to listen to, it has a charging port, and CD input and a place for a USB to be plugged into. I feel very safe traveling in this car. You have lots of leg room wherever you are sitting in the car. The interior is easy to wipe down. The ac and heater only take a few seconds to click on and start working fast, they make the climate controls very easy to understand as well. You are able to put the third row of seats down and have a spacious “trunk” to your car if you were to go grocery shopping or on a trip. In the second row there is cubby’s underneath the driver and passenger seat to store things, which is so nice and has pockets on the back of seats to put things as well. It is a great car that is very updated and easy for anyone to use. I would recommend this car to everyone. It is very reliable and has done great on gas for us as well. The brights are amazing, you can see so well when you are driving at night.

I actually love it because just new enough for me where I am not confused ha but the only thing is the trunk space is used for the third row so space is limited. It does have cruise control which works well and gas mileage is great. Other than the space it functions well for us.

The car is great. It has a lot of space. It includes about 7 seats and a trunk. It has below-average starting price. The car includes a user- friendly infotainment system. Its low base price cannot make up for its lackluster engine, poor predicted reliability rating, and subpar cargo space.

I really did not go to the dealership looking for or to even purchase a dodge journey but the car salesman had made a suggestion that I take a look at it. I took it into consideration and after a test drive I thought I had it was a pretty good car actually has an SUV that seats seven. I've started to notice there are a lot of dodge journeys on the road right now and I look at them and say wow that is a nice a nice SUV lol so yeah I am happy with the car it has a lot of space about it what about 10 miles on it so I also use it for uber as well as getting back-and-forth from my regular job is pretty comfortable on the inside I could say that has a lot of storage compartments which I love and I actually recommend it for anybody who to ask me about an SUV I'll go ahead and recommend that they at least check out a dodge journey.
