Alex Showalter
Sep 30, 2022

The 2014 Ford Edge lasts around 200,000 miles with some minor door sensor and stereo system issues. At $10,900 to $16,450, it’s cheaper than other midsize SUVs, making it a great value.

likeFilled The Good
Technology features are good for its age, steering is responsive for an SUV of its size and the suspension is smooth.
dislikeFilled The Bad
There’s a lot of road noise, rear visibility is limited by the large pillars and the transmission is slow to shift between gears.

Is the 2014 Ford Edge a Good Used SUV?

The ford edge is a fun and reliable car.
My ford edge is a very reliable car. The only mechanical work I have had done to it was pure maintenance. The car has leather heated seats which are very comfortable. The back up camera helps when you cannot see behind you. It has a v-6 engine that is very zippy. There is a lot of legroom in the back for my two children. The cargo space is a nice, large size. I can fit two bikes in the very back! The AWD works great, as I live on a gravel road that can be tricky to get to the top of. This car handles like a dream and at times can feel quite sporty on the highway. I have not had one problem out of this car in the four years I have owned it. I never want to get rid of it!

It is much more roomy inside to transport items than you think. You can use it like a truck by folding the back row down. I have moved many large items in the back of my ford edge.
My vehicle is a 2014 Ford Edge Sel. Color is White. 6 Cylinder, 4 wheel drive. I love how fast it goes and easy to handle. I do not like the My Key feature as it cost me 100 dollars to have the dealership unlock it for me after my wife accidentally turned it on. Great car overall.

Nice car to cruise around in.
Nice car good ride, nice power, looks good plenty of room, full sky light. Used mainly around town. Gas mileage on short trips isn't too good but not bad on the highway. I would buy it again. Not much else to say. Nice car, gets me where I need to go. Very comfortable for 5, good storage space.

I like the fact that it is fast and slick. Also I like the color of it. It also come with a lot of storage room in the back.

Bluetooth not working properly.
Everything works fine. The only thing that we cannot figure out why did the Bluetooth stop working we try resetting but it still does not work I try to take different places but they can find the reason of why it stop working. Sometimes the Bluetooth working for just a couple of minutes but if I turn off the car it stops working.

2014 ford edge sel- this is a good mid size SUV.
I travel a lot with this car, it is so comfortable and has a lot of power not to mention it is great on gas when you are driving from NC to Ohio and back in a weekend. Only problems I have had is the backup camera goes out sometimes. The performance is great, it handles well in all terrain and roads. This is one car I would buy again but I want to see what’s the sport like. I have the moonroof and touch screen all the bells and whistles next thing I am add is black rims because it is painted white.

My ford edge is a comfortable car.
I really love my ford edge. It is easy to drive. I have had no major problems with it. I have done only routine maintenance. My car has heated seats which is a feature I love. It also has a navigation system which is great because I get lost a lot. The car is really comfortable.

Ford edge sel pros and cons. Electrical problems. Sync system problems.
It has electrical problems. The touch screen does not work. So then most of the features do not work either. My heat and air conditioner cuts off and on by itself and when u want it on it won't come on at all. And can't sync my phone to it due to the touch screen not working right. So many problems.

Love the Edge fit my family of 5 well. Comfy for trips. We kept it well maintained regular oil changes. Bought with 52,000 miles. Engine got a coolant leak and blew my motor. Had for less than 2 years. Very disappointed because no warnings led to a blown motor. $22,000 car should last more than 2 years.

Loved everything about my limited edge. Fit my family of 5 perfectly . Very comfy for long trips .. Down fall I paid over $22,000 for a Edge with 52000 miles. It got a coolant leak in the motor and bam out of no where your engine blows ..it was well maintained regular oil change .. Very disappointed.

You're not actually purchasing the MyTouch system, you should instead think of it as renting it for a very short time.
I bought it because it's very comfortable to sit in, and it has a lot of nice features. However, even though it still only has 28,000 miles on it after purchasing it new, it has spent a lot of time in the shop. Anything that has to do with the MyTouch system keeps breaking, and I've had to spend thousands of dollars to fix.
accountCircle Tammy C
Worst car ever.
Navigation display. Since buying this car it has been nothing but a myriad of breakdowns. I have replaced tires 5 times, had noises coming from the front end, have had to have the shocks and struts replaced (not covered under warranty), the back up camera constantly fails, I could go on. My last trip to the Ford dealer they actually said ‘Well the car is almost 5 years old.’ Really?!!?

Purchsed a 2014 Edge from ford Dealership and now just over a year and this vehicle has cost me thousands in repairs and the problems just continue. After my experience now with Ford I will never purchase a Ford vehicle ever again.

I've kept up with maintenance. But, it is starting to go downhill.
It's been a good car I am just ready for something new. Haven't had any real issues with it other than standard wear and tear. Haven't had to replace anything major. Had it for 6 years haven't even had to do the breaks yet. Low oil pressure sensor is going out now tho.

I love the different color of blue that my car is.
I do not have too many real problems. The problems I have are small. The main seem to problem sensors seem to have is that the sensors fail a lot. My driver door does not open from the inside. The sensor on my passenger door does not always register. It regularly registers that my tires are low even though they aren't.

What Do Critics Say About the Ford Edge?

  • Consumer Reports says the Edge offers great interior space with average owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Edge at 4.1/5, praising the excellent handling, but doesn’t like the slow transmission.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Edge a 3.8/5 enjoying the quiet cabin, but owners don’t like the low 3,500 pound towing capacity.

What Common Problems Does the 2014 Ford Edge Have?

Common problems found on the 2014 Ford Edge include broken door ajar sensors, stereo system issues, and the heater not working. Overall, these problems are average for a midsize SUV from 2014, although repair costs are slightly higher than competitors.

Broken door ajar sensors are a widespread complaint from owners at around 30,000 miles. The sensor in the door fails, leaving the light and chime on in the cabin. Replacing the sensors is the only way to fix the issue, costing around $400.

Stereo system issues show up on some Edge models at around 40,000 miles. The software for the stereo system with navigation will freeze up, requiring a restart to get it working again. There are software updates dealers can install for under $50 which fix some problems. In other cases the entire stereo has to be replaced, which costs around $600.

There are 3 severe recalls on the 2014 Edge. They include broken driveshafts which can cause the Edge to roll away, as well as fuel pump problems. Ford will replace the parts on affected vehicles, which solves the problems.

How Long Will the 2014 Ford Edge Last?

A well-maintained 2014 Ford Edge should last over 200,000 miles, which is around 100,000 miles less than the top-rated Toyota Highlander. Regular annual maintenance costs are slightly higher than average at $521 per year, according to data from Repair Pal.

Since nearly all 2014 Ford Edge models will have over 100,000 miles buyers should be prepared to replace the A/C drier for $275, blower motor costing $250, and the intake manifold gasket which costs $475.

Safety technology is better than average for its age with optional rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, along with forward collision warning systems.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The first generation of the Ford Edge was introduced in 2007, which was replaced by the second generation in 2015.

2012: New 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine, Sync electronics available on all models.

2013: Base SE model has optional all-wheel-drive.

2014: No major changes.

2015: Fully redesigned for second generation with new interior, exterior, and engines.

2016: New Sync 3 stereo system, 3.5L V6 discontinued on SE, keyless entry on all models.

2017: No significant changes from 2016.

2018: No major changes.

How Does the Ford Edge Compare to the Competition?

The 2014 Ford Edge is a good choice for buyers in the market for a midsize SUV, although it’s not as good as the offerings from Toyota or Honda. Overall, it’s a decent choice for shoppers on a budget.

The Ford Escape is another SUV available from Ford in the same price range. Standard technology is better in the Ford Escape, however, the Ford Edge has more passenger room. We recommend the Ford Edge for 2014 since it has fewer mechanical problems.

The Chevy Equinox is a competitor which costs around $1,000 more. Interior materials are nicer in the Chevy Equinox, while the Ford Edge has better long-term reliability ratings. We recommend the Ford Edge for 2014 since it will last longer, and is more fun to drive.

Overall dependable and safe vehicle for you and your family.
I have not had any problems with my vehicle, I have had it for almost 2 years. The only thing that I do not care for about my car is the AWD, I prefer 4wd personally due to all of the snow here in my state. There have been timing belt issues in the past years for this make and model, but they have been resolved since 2014.

Elegant, sport car and aggressive.
No problems at all, very comfortable. Engine starts firm, is compared with the escape 2016 but I felt this car very soft to drive in the highway even city, the edge is very strong. The transmission is upgraded stronger for big trips and the shape is perfect, aggressive and elegant looking.

Comfortable, gas saver, easy to maneuver. Navigation not up to date. Affordable, roomy, easy to maintain. Enough to have a family of 5. No third row. If I had my choice again, I would not buy this car. It is nice and mine is fully loaded, panoramic sunroof. Heated seats. Rear camera no side or front camera.

I have had essentially not problems with my vehicle. After 77000 miles I have replaced the tires, battery and on headlight, the car is very comfortable and easy to drive on the highway. It continues to get 22 miles per gallon gas mileage which is the same mileage it got when it was new. My car has the v-6 engines which is the larger engine option.

Car is very reliable. Does great on gas. Have traveled up and down the east coast in it. Also does really well in different weather conditions, can tow and has sneaky room for travelling and moving necessities. Handles well, comfortable for tall people like myself. My 2014 Ford Edge is amazing! I love it and it's wildly cozy. The leather seats are really nice and comfortable, even in the rear the seats recline. The surround Sony sound system is amazing and sounds clean and crisp with the perfect amount of bass. The heated seats are a nice touch. My car started to have a battery issue recently that caused it to click when trying to start it. I have needed to be jumped many times. The deal broke off of the moonroof as well. The car is super comfortable and roomy for my busy family of four, I love it. Aside from the issues noted above, it is been very reliable. One thing I am not a huge fan of is the touch screen, it can lag or be finicky. The Bluetooth also takes a long time to process or transfer to and from different devices.

Had to get a seal fixed 5 times and some exhaust work had to be done. Other than that I love the car. I wish it had a button to open the trunk from inside or had the hands free open trunk. A third row would have also been nice but there wouldn't have been enough room for it.

For the most part I like my car. The size is nice. The back seat can be a little hard getting in and out of but overall it is ok. I wish there was a telescoping steering wheel. I also wish it was a smoother ride. The suspension is very rough. I wish you could adjust the seat heaters easier. We have hauled many things in this car. It can sometimes shift rough first thing in the morning. The gas mileage is average. I like the sun roof and use it frequently.

Ford edge is an excellent choice if you haul people or cargo on a regular basis.
I like the backup camera, and alerts when cars are in my blind spot and or when people/cars move behind me. I like that I can sync my phone to vehicle to make calls, play audiobooks or have my phone apps play through the speakers for GPS assistance. I like that the back seats fold down with a button and that I can close the rear hatch with a button and that I can open the hatch with the remote. My edge often has problems detecting the key when it is in my pocket, so I get messages like 'cannot detect remote.'. I like the leather seats that came with my package so they are easy to clean if food or liquids are spilled on them. I was disappointed that there was no trash container in the car, but I do like the deep console between driver and passenger seats. I like the heated seats but wish cooling seats had been included, especially for the Texas heat. I also like the temperature controls, and my passengers like the ability to set a different temperature from me. I also like to play with the different color of lights for the door and floor lights. I did not like the headrests, because I feel like they constantly push my head forward to far, so I would have preferred the option to move the headrest back some.

My favorite thing about my ford edge is that it is reliable and low maintenance. It gets great gas mileage and is comfortable for long trips. Not only is it mechanically sound, but it looks sporty too. The sunroof, heated seats, and push to start features are some of my favorite things about it.

Most comfortable quiet ride ever!
I have never been more pleased with a vehicle than I am with this ford edge. We drove it as a test drive and never drove another. It is so comfortable and quiet. Lots of legroom in the front and rear. Lots of storage space. Hugs the road very well on turns. Very impressed with how it handles in a heavy rain/wind storm. I am 5'4' and my husband is 6'2'. We can adjust the seat to.

Luxury Vehicle with Small Cup Holders
The Edge is extremely comfortable to drive. It handles like a compact car, but has the roominess of an SUV. The only thing I do not like about it is the cup holders. There is only one in the whole vehicle that is big enough for a large cup/mug. Otherwise, it feels like a luxury vehicle.

It is fully automated for door locks
Nice ride. Easy to drive. Very comfortable. Easy to see from mirrors. It has lots of room. It is easy to access.

The best safety features on this car.
The air conditioning is a thing to really consider when you are buying a car and it's not a problem with this car. It even stops when the passenger does not have a seat belt on. This car provides a smooth ride when you are on the highway and on the road.

The interior and the gas mileage is the best details of my car.
Sometimes it feels like the park is not going to catch. Other than that it is very reliable. Good feel when driving. Very smooth. I have the leather seats so it has a nice look to it. I get good gas mileage as well. All around a good car haven't had many issues.

Great vehicle for new drivers.
This is my first car. The features within the car make it very user friendly. It has last two years with minimal trips to a mechanic. The only things that needed fixing within the two years were air conditioning and back up camera. The car is very reliable, good size and great for new drivers.

Good space, amazing quality, great performance, and awesome design.
It is really comfortable, it has a lot of space plus the crack is great. Good motor when trying to speed I had no trouble. I like the design and everything about it. With troubles I had none, my vehicle has never gotten problems, obviously I do change the oil when it has to giving it right maintenance.

The nicest vehicle I have ever owned.
Both doors to the vents in the dual heater and defrost system. Each side had issues blowing hot air to each and defrost at separate times. It started on the passenger side first, then the driver's side. Other than that it has been a wonderful vehicle.

2014 Ford Edge, leather and loaded
I have 150,000 miles on my vehicle. Drive 80 miles round trip to job Monday through Friday. It's been very dependable. I keep the oil changed and tires rotated. Plan to have the spark plugs replaced soon. I would definitely purchase another of the same when I can afford it.

The ford edge is an excellent family car.
The car drives and handles well. Haven't had any mechanical problems other than routine maintenance. It is fun to drive and has good cargo space. It comfortably seats 5 adults and holds two car seats comfortably as well. It is a good, solid family vehicle.

This vehicle is the perfect family vehicle.
I love everything about this car! I was worried it would be too big. But it is the perfect size for my family of 5. The heated seats are amazing and the double sunroof makes for amazing views. Multiple charging ports for our many electronics. Spacious back seat for my older children.

Solid vehicle. I like as much as old BMW.
Haven't had an issue yet! Owned 1 year. I love the sunroof and ease of operation. Turn radius is amazing.

Spacious, smooth riding vehicle.
I have a Ford edge. This is the second edge that I have owned. They are such a versatile vehicle for someone on the go. It has enough room to pack for a family vacation, but also compact enough to drive through a busy city. When my husband and I were looking into getting another vehicle for me, I immediately said I wanted another edge. We can pack up our stuff, the baby, and dog (100 lb. Lab) and comfortably travel long distances.

Ford edge is a great vehicle I would recommend to anyone.
No issues love it. Had a great experience when purchasing and would buy another one. Wish it was all wheel drive however. I have also had issues with the heater but it is probably operator error not the vehicle itself. Love the sunroof and it has a lot of power.
