Owner
My 2009 escape has been good so far. I bought the car used 3 years ago with 120,000 kms on it. I was just told that the subframe is rusted badly needs to be replaced. I have found out that there is a recall for the problem. However after almost four hours of the complete runaround by ford I have found out there is a recall for this SAFTEY issue. But it depends on where it was made. Like I said my problem is a badly rusted subframe that is not covered by this recall. Than you Ford this is the one and only time you will screw me and I hope a lot of people read this and buy other products.

Not another one ever
When I bought this vehicle it had 21,000 miles on it nothing but trouble from steering locking up to 3 alternators to 4 tire pressure sensors to back glass brackets breaking off and back glass falling off to heater motor sensors keep blowing because of steering locking up cause all light on dash goes out heater quits working and then battery light comes on can’t even back it out of driveway has to be towed. And the list goes on and on. Have spent thousands of dollars to dealership still same ole c**p

Great car, with a couple of problems.
Purchase my 2009 Ford Escape in Nov. 2008. It currently has 116,000 miles. Had to replace power steering unit (entire lower steering unit @ $1350.00) at approx 100K miles. Replaced rear hatch door opener at about same time. Other than that, new tires at 72,000 and front brake shoes at 28k miles and again at approx 100k miles. Looks lie there is now a problem with the sunroof leaking. Could be just plugged up drains. Will check it out. Otherwise, the car runs great. Oil and filter change every 4k miles. Original seat material is lousy. White spots from any wetness. Dealer never notified me about that recall. Would definitely buy another Escape.

The most important thing others should know about the ford escape is that it is a reliable car that is also functional for many purposes.
I do not have any complaints regarding my vehicle. I love that it has plenty of room for passengers and/or cargo but that it's not too large. I also love that I am able to get good gas mileage in this car.

Love driving the Escape! Roomy, comfortable and dependable.
I love that it sits up higher so that I am better able to see things around me (and around the snowbanks in the winter). I love the four-wheel drive for the wisconsin winters. I love the cargo space and all the room - and the roomy back seat area. What I do not like is that it takes two hands to open the liftgate - one to press the release button and the other to "help" the lift raise.

Reliably and economically gets you from point a to point b.
A lot of little problems, Tailgate latch poorly designed, it stopped opening properly paid almost $1000 parts and labor to replace it worked for a while then same issue reappeared.

My car is very reliable and durable.
My car is really good, with great acceleration and great brakes as well. Drives over bumpy roads really smooth, and has smooth steering wheel movement as well. The gas mileage is also great, thirty dollars fills up the gas tank and runs for 300 miles.

I totally love my 2009 Escape!!
Had my Escape for over 7 years now and I LOVE IT! No major issues and it has 170,000 miles on it now. New tires every 60,000 and oil change every 5000... No issues. A little surface rust on the rear quarters, otherwise the truck is in fantastic shape!

It is a good value for the money spent on it. It is dependable.
I love the color and the comfort of this SUV. I like that I can lay the back seats down for more space for hauling things and my big dog. I like the mileage this SUV gets.

Other than the couple issues I mentioned, this vehicle is lovely and fun.
The only problems I have come across are ignition switch possibly as when I put the key in to turn on, I have to try several times, so I think maybe something in there needs replaced. Also there is a tire pressure sensor that has gone bad and it tells me every time I drive on a highway after about 20 mins.

Easy to use and drive car.
It is a nice small SUV. Good on gas with get up and go. I really do not have an issue with the car or it is features. It is a simple no frills kinda car. Bought it used and haven't had any real problems. Drive it so see family and haul my two big dogs around.

Not too bad for a mid grade SUV crossover vehicle.
Vehicle is comfortable and have not had any major issues. Electronic window did need repaired as would not roll up. Transmission pickup is lacking. Continuous erroneous dash light errors involving tire pressure. Not the top line model, but has decent standard features.

Fun to Drive, reliable and economical, long-lasting
I love my car, it has leather seats, gets about 25 mpg, is responsive, is a 4 cylinder to save gas, and I can use it to haul almost anything I need to. I like the way it handles on the road, and is good in snow or on ice. The only thing I don't like is the chrome trim on the console and dash as it can create blinding reflections on sunny days, and the way the instrument cluster window is angled also produces a blinding reflection in the corners.

Ford Escape - simple and reliable.
It gets me from point A to point B. No issues, nothing special. It has all of the features I need to get through my daily commute and any driving I need to do, but without the extra bells and whistles. It is simple but it gets the job done. I would recommend it to others.

Needs rear vents, leather and more comfortable seats. Has great handling.
It drives nice, it is good size for a family vehicle, leather seats would be better because of kids, the front seats are not comfortable, and it would be nice to have air/heat vents in the back seat for the kids. The interior color is not great, maybe darker colored seats. Other than that it drives smooth, has nice handling, fast breaking, and seems like it would hold up fairly well in an accident.

I bought the car used in 2012. It has been very reliable. The fan speed in the ac system can only be on high or off. But this is the only problem I have had with it and that is only very recent. I find it is very comfortable and easy to drive.

It's been great until recently, having only the dealership as an option for maintenance is far too expensive. It meets my needs, but financially it is becoming a burden that is difficult to maintain. I've considered how to get a different car because of maintenance issues.

Throttle issue, wrench light comes on and it slows down then dies.
Honestly, the only real problem I have had is the little wrench comes on and the car slows way down then dies. You wait a minute and restart it. You have to replace the throttle when that starts happening and it seems common after about 10 years. Other than that this car has been the best I have ever had!

Research carefully before you buy a ford.
Steering problems that a recall had not fixed. It was expensive and Ford would not help with it. Hinges on hatch window deteriorated and glass fell off. Wheels do not seal to tires and tire pressure sensors do not work properly. Check engine light is on more than off, but diagnostics say nothing is wrong.

This vehicle has been great for the family life. There’s enough room in the back for two car seats and the trunk is spacious enough for our double stroller. 2009 Ford Escape - A reliable A to B vehicle that is a pleasure to drive.
Our 2009 Ford Escape has been a great vehicle for our young family of three. It has shown itself to be reliable, easy to maintain, and, very importantly, safe. One feature that we have come to love since having our baby is the quick clip brackets for the baby's car seat base. We have gone on 10+ hour trips in this vehicle and remained comfortable throughout the entire trip. The few problems that we have encountered include a broken windshield wiper fluid pump and a worn out actuator on the rear lift gate. Parts for this vehicle are easy to find.

I bought it used with 60,000 miles on it. I’ve driven it for seven years it now has almost 113,000 miles. The hybrid warranty is 10 years (this car is 11). Engine and trans warranty goes to 150,000 miles on anything the oil touches. Only a stuck seatbelt release in the rear seat. That’s it, regular maintenance great fuel mileage, comfortable, solid, great visibility. Zero issues with the sealed hybrid battery. Still looks new. Just sold it to a friend. Ford Escape.. Mid size mid luxury vehicle
Ford Escape is the perfect size and very comfortable. Plenty of legroom in both front and back. Mine is a 6 cylinder, runs great. Plenty of pep for the size car. I have replaced the ignition switch twice, the EgR valve once and one coil pack once in 165,00 miles

If you want a reliable, versatile car, this is the one for you
It is a reliable family car that is really good in the snow. Overall reliability is pretty good although I have had VCT solenoid problems a couple of times. I like it enough that we bought another for my wife

Easy to drive. Room for the whole family. The back is big enough to haul whatever we need to. Very safe vehicle.

Seems to perform well. Continuously having issue with brakes & brake pads
Good fuel efficiency, gold ride and plenty of storage space.

It's a very reliable vehicle that will last for years to come.
My Ford Escape is very reliable. It has lasted a lot of years and miles and just keeps going. I get good gas mileage for an older vehicle and it still looks great!

Reliable family car! It's great on gas and lasts a long time
I like that my vehicle is roomy. It's the perfect size for my family. I dislike the rust by the wheel wells.

Quick Review of 2009 Ford Escape Features
I thoroughly enjoy my Escape. I believe that it is good on gas mileage, is very easy to drive and handle, and has good space. All the windows are automatic and still work great even 10 years later. There also is a sunroof which is wonderful for long road trips! When I first got the car, it came with an automatic start, and key fob which has proven to be VERY handy in the winter. The seats in the back to come out so that you have more storage in the back which is nice. The only complaint about the seats coming out is that there is no place to store the seats you take out within the vehicle where they will not take up space. It would be nice if they went into the floor or something. But honestly that really is my only complaint.
