There’s a powerful engine for a compact SUV, a roomy interior with space for adults, and outstanding fuel economy.

Transmission failures are very common on the 2014 model. The infotainment system is difficult to use, and there’s less safety technology than other compact SUVs.

This car does not waist as much gas as another SUV might, and drives smoothly.
The tired wear out to quick, even when we don't drive it often. The comfort of the car is amazing it fits not only car seats but multiple kids and the trunk is huge and definitely big enough to go on a vacation.

Its awesome. Drives amazing and is a joy to drive.
I love it. It drives great. I haven't had any issues. Would recommend

Economical, durable, comfortable.
My vehicle does not give me problems, it is stable, comfortable, economical, comfortable and it is not expensive also add that on long trips it does not fall short, the vehicle responds in terms of speed, consumption and stability. Very good option to buy.

Forever escape owner onto my third one!
This is my second escape and I love them! Only have ever needed regular routine maintenance and really enjoy driving it. Enough room for road trips but not too big to have to worry about gas mileage. I have already decided that my next vehicle will be another ford escape.

Escape into a fabulous vehicle.
The performance of the Escape is amazing. I travel a lot and it handles great on the highway and for long distances. It is also a super comfortable vehicle for both the driver and passenger(s). It is extremely reliable, as only routine maintenance has had to be performed on the vehicle since being purchased.

My ford titanium was like going from an abacus to a smartphone.
This is a reliable, efficient SUV. It has 90,000 miles on it with little or no body damage. It required no additional maintenance above the recommended maintenance by ford. It has all of the accessories available at the time of purchase except a sunroof ( I did not want this). It has heated seats and mirrors which continue to operate properly. It has an excellent warning system for problems are displayed in a fashion that is easy to understand. It has a state of the art cooling system with separate control for people sitting in the backseat. It has ample storage, charging outlets front and rear seat passengers. Seating is comfortable and my passengers enjoy the ride. It has great safety features e.G. Notification of traffic approaching on the either side of the car, potential crash warning, a self parking system, auto lock and a warning alarm if the key is left in the car. It gets great mileage and rides well. My only complaint is the map system. It is old, upgrades cost over $100.00 and they are substandard. The google app or siri on my phone is ten times better. I called ford and they said they knew it was limited and incorrect. The person that took the call agree with me and didn't think it would improve. Ford should be embarrassed.

Ford escape titanium (silver).
I love my car. I used to have a sedan, so this feels like a considerable upgrade. I bought my ford escape used, but it still runs perfectly and has all the bells and whistles that my old car didn't have. I particularly love my sunroof! It provides much needed access to the sun and fresh air!

It is a reliable and comfortable vehicle.
I like my vehicle. It gets good gas mileage, has room for my whole family, and can also be used for my outdoors hobbies like hunting and fishing. The Escape is a good combination of features for me.

Heated seats are wonderful but GPS is terrible.
Rear trunk - door feature does not work. Vehicle makes lots of air noise. Does not run smoothly- rather jerks all the time. GPS - have to purchase new every year and it works poorly sending you in the wrong direction. Lots of bells and whistles but I wish the basics features work and extra vehicle coverage always denied.

Most disappointing vehicle I have ever owned.
I loved the back up camera clarity and view. Now only after 41/2 years the camera either is upside down or black screen only rarely does it work. All based off-when my original battery decided to die with no notifications and had to have it jumped and it immediately started having this issue.Local dealer said it just went bad and need to replaced for $700. In researching I see this is very common and apparently they aren’t wired very well. This is not the first issue with this car either. It’s just a money pit. I will never buy a Ford again

This is a very bad car for tall people to ride in.
The vehicle is too small. The vehicle does not have enough leg room. The vehicle does not run very well in bad weather.

107,000 Km , parts are failing
At 107,000 Km i have replaced a wheel bearing, and just this week i hear a whining noise, thought it was the transmission, as I have heard a few horror stories about the transmission, brought it in to a transmission shop. Low and behold its the Hanger bearing on the rear drive shaft that attaches to the transmission. Great, I thought, just replace the bearing.... Oh no you cant do that, I have to replace the entire drive shaft... WTF, I just need a hanger bearing... Nope cant do that. Car companies are crooks, just like most corporations.... Stay away.

Escape from the ford escape.
I purchased the car used and have had to take to the shop 5 times. The back brakes have been fixed 3 times. Hill assist and 4wd will turn on and off while I am driving or at a complete stop. The heater takes a long time to heat up. I am at work before it gets warm.

Not comfortable and size is not only small but little power.
Multiple recalls. Too small to be comfortable. Very low power when needing to pass on interstate. Difficult to connect phone to its media sources. Recall for coolant problem that still continues to give a problem. Will no longer purchase any ford product.

2014 ford escape problems.
I bought the car brand new and the transmission just went out at 6 years, right outside of warranty. It has had countless recalls including a latch problem on the hatch, the passenger door handle gets stuck especially after rain and the door can open up while driving,

Worst Love Lost
The Worst Love Lost I thought this car would be a great fit for me, boy was I ever wrong! Being I have a 2002 Ford Escape that has hardly costed me anything in the time since purchase, seeing a 2014 and having a need for a easier to access car for my then mother to get in and out of would be a great choice. After all, several government agencies use Ford Escapes and being I believe in buying American I opted to purchase an extended warranty on my new yet used Ford Escape. Good thing I did , cause at 90K miles the transmission just went out, no bells or whistles or lights just noticed a hard slip while driving and drove to the dealer (again Thank God I had the Warranty) that was 5K in repairs for a new transmission. With that behind me I was feeling a bit better. UNTIL, at 116K no lights, no smoke, no water dripping no service warning did the dang thing run hot and cracked the head ( so we tried the blue block) never do that cause the whole motor is shot at that point . Here's the kicker it cost as much to replace the heads it is does the whole engine cause of the way they have everything crammed under the hood. And a new motor is 8K from Ford and 4,500.00 best used with acceptable mileage below 60K . Heart broken to say the least , can't afford a FORD they don't make them like the old ones, the ones that last. I'll never buy another for sure! What stinks , is all the mechanics and people I've spoken too in recent months say Ford knows they have issues with this SUV and should recall it but haven't yet. Im holding out hope they will do the right thing and fix peoples SUVs . For now still driving around the 2002 with almost 300K miles.I understand mechanical things happen but why have a on board computer that doesn't alert you to a problem is not right.

What Problems Does the 2014 Ford Escape Have?

The 2014 Ford Escape has more serious mechanical problems than other compact SUVs. It is an improvement from the 2013 model, but is not as good as the 2015.

Transmission failures are the most common problem. The transmission can either be rebuilt or replaced if it fails, usually costing over $4,000. If you are on a test drive, pay attention to excessive noise shifting between gears which can indicate a problem.

Cracked windshields are another frequent complaint brought up by owners. Replacing the windshield for about $500 solves the problem, but the glass is weaker than other SUVs.

Engines overheating are also mentioned. Usually the problem is a failed head gasket, and a $1,700 to $2,000 replacement solves the overheating issues. Failed head gaskets can be dangerous and lead to permanent engine damage.

There are 14 recalls, which is worse than other compact SUVs. Recalls include seat welds, air bags, doors opening while driving, the panoramic roof glass, engine wiring, fuel delivery module, fuel pump, instrument cluster, cylinder head, and the shifter cable. All of the recalls listed are serious and affect the reliability of the SUV.

What are the Prices, Models & Specs?

The 2014 Ford Escape has a price range of $11,343 to $16,422, depending on the mileage and model. When new, the retail price was $23,100 to $30,850. Depreciation is average, dropping about 45% in value during the first 5 years of ownership.

  • S is the entry-level model with 17-inch steel wheels, cloth seating, MyKey, cruise control, a 4.2-inch infotainment screen, rearview camera, and a 6-speaker stereo system with Sync voice commands, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity.
  • SE is above it in the lineup and has a 1.5L turbocharged engine, 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, a keyless entry keypad, a power driver’s seat, and a power liftgate.
  • Titanium is the flagship model with 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seating, keyless entry, push button start, 8-inch infotainment screen, power liftgate, and 10-speaker Sony stereo system.

accountCircle eunice w

There is a slight squeak that drives me crazy sometimes other than that I have normal upkeep on the escape.

accountCircle Bethany D

My ford escape is incredibly reliable, and I have used it for long distance road trips numerous times. The only trouble I have had is the air conditioning breaking down a few times.

accountCircle Chloe B

It is reliable in terms of performance, but my radio has some strange issues with not working consistently.

For the most part it has been but we just had an issue with the transmission. And it was a costly fix.

Yes, the 2014 ford escape titanium is a very reliable vehicle. I have over 100,000 miles on it and we have not had any problems with it. Finally put new brakes on after 100,000 miles.

My car has had some issues. My roof has leaked. It wasn't sealed properly and I have had issues with the coolest. Other than that it drives nice.

Higher in the lineup is the Toyota RAV4, which is more expensive than the Ford. Technology and safety scores are better in the Ford. Where Toyota stands out is with much better reliability and technology. The RAV4 is a better choice since there are less mechanical problems.

Another competitor is the Honda CR-V, which is only slightly more expensive than an Escape. The Honda has better reliability ratings, and technology. The Ford has higher quality interior materials, and more horsepower. Overall, the Honda wins with a lower cost of ownership and fewer problems compared to the Escape.

Great car
The intelligent 4x4 (2014) is the ticket. Solid little ride. Its not super powerful, but honestly a 4cyl with the turbo does well enough. Just went camping with the wife 2 kids and loaded to the gills. Rough road was no problem for our little beast!

Great gas mileage and comfortable to drive.
I really like the space inside of my car. It drives smoothly and is relatively low maintenance. It has a lot of features that I do not use, but I would purchase this kind of vehicle again. I would choose a different color. It is good on gas, but has very little pick up. I like a vehicle with a little more get-up-and-go.

It is a nice little family car for small family.
The only issue is the space on the back seat. When car seat is installed it is hard for the third person to sit in between. The mileage on the car is okay for long drives. The design is better than others cars. We bought a used car so hot now we do not have any major issues.

My 2014 awesome and classy ford escape.
I love my escape! It is comfortable and has good gas mileage. It has just enough storage for vacation and for weekly grocery shopping. It is classy looking and modern. I get compliments on my car on how it rides and the ease of driving. I love the back up camera. I have Sirius radio on my vehicle and could drive for hours just cruising and listening to music.

I haven't had many problems with my car! It runs very well, good on oil & gas. It is overall a great car & super cute! A great first car, I have had to get the oil changed a few times but nothing out of the ordinary. I rarely need to take it to the shop which is probably my favorite part!

Love it. Drives like a dream. Super reliable. Never had a problem in six years. Gets great gas mileage. Looks sharp. Has plenty of get up and go to it. Safe enough to feel comfortable and confident when I have my children in the vehicle. Always trusted and loved ford. Owning this vehicle further reinforces that belief.

I love my escape for so many reasons. Here are just a few of them.
I love how smooth the ride is on my compact SUV. The heated seats and remote start are amazing since we live in Idaho and it is cold. It is comfortable for long trips and has tons of room. I also dig our panoramic sunroof. So far it has treated us very well with no major issues or problems and the gas mileage is awesome.

As an SUV it drives much more like a car which is a great feature.
The car is amazing but the reported fuel economy is not quite what was advertised, it comes in at about 18 to 24 as opposed to the 28 to 32 advertised, the sync system is also very good but I have had issues with the control was a bit better, sometimes when I push play or stop it doesn't respond.

Long lasting tires. Great small SUV.
I bought the ford escape new. I have had zero problems with it. I am still driving on the original tires, but I am due to get new ones. I do routine maintenance. It has been a very good car. My car is grey and has maintained a good paint job. It has not faded after 6 years, interior has leather seats and I have a sunroof. I haven't used it much. Next car I purchase will be an upgrade to a larger for SUV.

There are no major problems. I cannot use waze navigation while my phone is plugged in which is annoying. Also the gas tank on the car is small which means you have to fuel up often. The car drives well and I have not had any major issues. For the most part this car is good.

Very today. Very modern while remaining ford standards.
My 2014 ford escape se is one of my favorite vehicles I've ever had the privilege of owning. The only issue I've ever had with it so far is the battery, and that has ultimately nothing to do with the vehicle itself. So mechanical wise it is a very sound SUV. We in premium gas in it even though it's not called for so our mpg is always mid 20mpg. I would feel safe with my grandmother driving this car from Alabama to Idaho. Like I said by far one of my most favorite vehicles ever.

The ac fab freezes which causes the ac not to work at times. I have to turn it off and wait a while for the ac to work again. Normally not a problem but I live in the south so it is a real pain in the summer. The car has nice pick up and great on gas.

Bought the car used from a ford dealership and haven’t had any issues with it. I absolutely love it. Great car: overall it's been great, gas is also great with this car.
I haven't had any real problems with the car, except for the normal ones at 100,000 mi. I had to replace a gas part and 02 sensor. Sometimes it can stall to start, and stall to excel when I need to go faster. Sometimes that hinders me from switching lanes or making sudden moves, I am afraid it will not take off on time. I do have to go to a mechanic to see what's wrong but there are no engine lights on. What I really like about this car is that it does alert you when anything is wrong. When your front or rear lights are out it notifies you on the dashboard.

I have had this car for quite some time now, it has been extremely reliable, great on gas mileage and is a smooth ride. It's very easy to access the radio, Bluetooth and CD features in the car. I love the gas mileage and space ob my escape. It is small yet roomy enough to travel with passengers. It; s super comfortable and sporty looking. The escape is a very comfortable car. With all leather seats it feels nice to be in. Further the heated seats are a big advantage in the winter. I had one major problem where the car would stall in the middle of driving. It was a sensor error that was easily corrected. It is a very comfortable and smooth drive. Sometimes, I feel like I do not have enough power in the pedal, but then it’ll get up and go. It is very stylish and has modern features. The model includes a sync system, touchscreen monitor, and an ecoboost engine. I get great gas mileage and maintenance is low.

Overall performance is good, heater is great along with the air conditioner.
I have had no problems at all with my 2014 ford escape. Starts every time had to charge the battery once but that was my fault forgetting to turn lights out at work. Would take it anywhere even out of state without a problem. A little rough riding but all in all is fine. Went to have it serviced and everything checked out ok.

Great family car or for someone who has to travel a lot gets great gas mileage.
Lots of room the back seats fold all the way down, heated seats which are great, remote start. Automatic hatch open and close. Lots of power when you want to get up and go the turbo adds a nice touch. The build of the car is sporty and fun. Highly recommend it for a small family!

Makes travelling with toddlers a breeze!
Being a single mother to a two year old already has it is challenges, but driving the 2014 ford escape makes travelling with a toddler a breeze. The automatic lift trunk makes it easy to stow strollers, high chairs, etc. There is plenty of space for cargo in the trunk and in the back seat, and the bells and whistles of the titanium trim make travelling effortless in general.

I love my ford escape with exciting sport mode and Bluetooth/hands free feature.
I love my ford escape. It has a ton of space in the back, and even more when the back seats are down. It is a great car and I have never had any problems with it. My only issue with it is that it does have ac that goes to the back. Other than that it performs well on a daily basis and is a great starter car for anyone who has just recently attained their drivers license.

Reliable, but lacking space.
Car has over 150,000 miles on it and have had very few mechanical problems. I find the back seat leg room to be lacking, which was tricky when we had kids and installed car seats. There have been several recall repairs, but otherwise the car has been very reliable. I enjoy the height and smooth drive.

Great family car for any occasion.
It's very safe family car. I love the navigation system. The security alarms are working perfectly. It has indicates for blind spots. The only difficulty is too sensitive brake pedal. But it's just my opinion. I love interior. And the best thing is a great mileage.

Great first car purchase!
The ford escape was my first car purchase and I love it. I am a coach for youth sports and the vehicle has been great for hauling equipment for practices and tournaments. It also drives very nice. I have taken the vehicle on many road trips and the drive has always been very smooth. The vehicle also makes me feel very safe. It drives well in the winter during snowy conditions. The only complaint that I have about the vehicle would be the 'automatic 4wd' I do not like that it kicks in when it feels like it should. I wish I had the ability to turn it on and off. It would make me feel a little better about driving in snow.

Ford escape? Or nah? You might need one.
It runs good. Comfortable seats good music system. Does great on gas. I currently get 21.3 mpg. It is overheating right now and I am not sure why. It was a great reliable car until this but it has some recalls and you'll want to check these out. It really makes a difference. The doors can open. Accidentally while you're driving but it's never happened to me.

Fully loaded 2014 ford escape.
Good commuters vehicle, has great gas mileage as well as power. This sport utility vehicle is all wheel drive so it does very well in all weather climates. It has a very spacious cargo area as well as a panoramic sunroof. The only problem we have had is that the battery has died on us a few times.

Best ride I had in years. I love the lid lights and push start.
I have had my car for about 2 years I love it. It has heated seats. It has led lights inside the cup holders on the floor and also on the door handles and the back seats as well. It also has a sunroof that lets back pretty far. I haven't had any issues until two days ago my back breaks finally went bad on me. It is a push start that is another thing I love. It is good on gas $20 -$25 fills me right up. It seats 4 passengers. It has a nice size trunk. Overall it is a pretty good car.

2014 ford escape is the right vehicle for you!
Completely reliable and I have honestly had no problems mechanical or comfort wise. Features include 4 wheel drive, Bluetooth cell phone connection, back up camera, electric moveable seats. Love this care completely and I have no intention of trading it in any time soon.
