The 2019 Ford Expedition lasts around 225,000 miles, with some average transmission software and A/C system issues reported. At $31,550 to $58,500, it’s a good value for a full size SUV with plenty of room for a large family.

There’s no V8 engine offered, the brake pedal is softer than other SUVs and the steering feels loose.

Ford expedition is a great family vehicle, sporty, but can haul 7 passengers.
Very sporty, lots of seating and legroom in all 3 rows, less storage than previously had with suburban but generally not a problem. Does not offer heads up display which was a little disappointing but I have quickly gotten over that. Seats are comfortable. Lots of power for speed and pulling stuff like jet ski, etc. Stereo is good. Like the touch screen. Lots of options.

A simple yet stunning car.
I love that my expedition has all of the gadgets and whistles in an XLT trim. It has all of the luxury items that I could ever want while still being simple. I had a luxury vehicle before this and it was nowhere near as luxurious. My favorite things, unique to this make/model are the keyless entry and the heated/cooled seats. The cooled seats are a game changer in my Florida weather!

The only vehicle you need.
As a family with children, we have no major complaints about the car. It is roomy and comfortable. It has many features that are great for taking it on trips. I do wish it got a little better gas mileage, but it is not bad for a large SUV. We have not had any issues and plan to keep it a long time.

Best family vehicle we have owned.
I love my expedition! There is so much room between each row that makes it feel so spacious. Love all the standard features. My favorites are the backup camera, seat warmers/cool, and the blind spot lights on mirrors. I love the second row because I am able to put 3 car seats across the row and my kids do not feel crammed in. I can also make my second row into bucket seats when the kids get older!

“mom car” or comfort heaven.
Beautiful car, by far one of my best purchases. Smooth ride with great stock speakers, and comfort to last for years. Love the carplay feature and how you are able to see the speed digitally and your music on the dash. The best part is the heated wheel, beautiful sporty design on a bigger car.

Comfortable ride and good gas mileage.
Absolutely love my expedition. It has a smooth ride, plenty of room for my family. We have not had any problems with this vehicle. We use this as our primary vehicle. We get great gas mileage. The third row is big enough for the adults in my family as well. When traveling, we are able to be comfortable for even really long road trips!

My luxurious ford that my family loves, I love, and my friends love.
My ford expedition is very comfortable and suitable for my family of five. My whole family fits in this car comfortably with extra room and there is plenty of room for luggage. The car is able to get internet so the kids can stay entertained very easily on their devices.

No way to lock controls from small children riding in car seats.
I have this vehicle as a rental while my car is getting repaired. I have 4 grandchildren in carseats that I drive around. My grandson loves to push the third row recline back and forth while riding, which is obviously not safe. When I looked up to see if there was a way to lock these controls there is not. I would definitely not buy this vehicle if I had children in car seats.

Although the vehicle is recently brand new and bought, I have to say that by far the Ford Expedition is a decent vehicle to have. It has been a reliable vehicle to use back and forth between college (I drive 70 miles away to attend classes). Furthermore, there is spacious cargo. It was able to hold 5 duffel bags for a road trip to Santa Monica and, even after those 5 bags, we still had room! It has a navigational GPS system that comes in handy for the road. There is Bluetooth sync that way you can answer phone calls handsfree or if you want to jam out to some tunes from your phone. In total the vehicle has 8 seats so it is good for carpooling. Especially if you are a Lyft or Uber driver. The interior is leather and pretty nice. Overall, it has been a great vehicle to have considering I am constantly on the go. Whether that be running errands or driving to college, Ford is the way to go.

I love the roominess of the expedition and the smooth ride. Unfortunately, I have had to have my car in the shop two times now due to an issue with the pcv valve. If this issue is not resolved I will have to trade it in for another expedition or something that can accommodate my family.

It is able to parallel park itself.
Reliability is great. I liked it for the overall modern look to the car. Very comfortable for a big family and long distance road trips. Comes packed with lane assistance, seat warmers, and CarPlay. The number one thing that makes the car so great is the how it can parallel park itself.

What Do Critics Say About the Ford Expedition?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Ford Expedition adds a lot of comfort, convenience and technology, with good owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the 2019 Expedition at 3.4/5, enjoying the huge interior for cargo and passengers, but doesn’t like the relatively loud cabin.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Ford Expedition Have?

Common problems found on the 2019 Ford Expedition include a loss of power while accelerating, the third row coming loose, along with A/C vents not working. Overall, these problems are similar to other full size SUVs on the market, leading to average repair costs as the Expedition ages.

A loss of power while accelerating is the most widespread complaint from 2019 Expedition owners, showing up at around 7,500 miles. Usually, the problem is caused by transmission software, which causes poor gear changes. Most dealers will update the transmission software for free, while others charge around $100 for labor.

The third row coming loose is another problem mentioned by some Expedition owners at roughly 20,000 miles. There are some cases where the third row was not properly installed from the factory, and vibrations can cause bolts to come loose. Many dealerships will fix the loose seat for free, while others charge around $50 to secure it properly.

A/C vents not working is another complaint that shows up on some 2019 Expedition models. Usually, the problem is caused by a damaged blend door actuator, which prevents air from flowing properly. Replacing the blend door actuator costs around $400 due to the amount of labor required.

There are four recalls on the 2019 Ford Expedition, which is similar to other large SUVs on the market. The most serious recall is for the rear toe link fasteners, which may come loose, increasing the risk of a crash. Ford will replace the fasteners on affected models for free. Other recalls include the parking chime message and head restraint instructions, which Ford will also fix for free.

How Long Will the 2019 Ford Expedition Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Expedition can last around 225,000 miles, which is shorter than some competitors like the Toyota Sequoia. Regular annual maintenance costs are higher than some rivals, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $850 per year.

As a used 2019 Expedition reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the emergency brake cable for $195, the crankshaft position sensor costing $325, along with the throttle body, which costs around $525.

accountCircle Erica D

In the few months we've owned the vehicle, there haven't been any issues. In fact, it really amazed us with the drive mode settings that can be adjusted depending on the road and weather.

How Is the Technology?

The standard entertainment technology is excellent, offering an 8-inch touchscreen with the Sync 3 interface, which has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Optional upgrades include a more powerful stereo system and a rear-seat entertainment system with dual headrest-mounted displays.

Standard safety technology is similar to other large SUVs, offering a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, and Ford MyKey which lets you set speed and volume limits.

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Lane keeping assist
  • Forward collision warning
  • Front parking sensors
  • Stop-and-go adaptive cruise control
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Lane departure warning
  • Pedestrian detection
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Parallel park assist

The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $31,550 to $58,500, making it less than a Chevy Suburban or GMC Yukon. When new, the price range was $52,130 to $79,200. What Colors Does the Ford Expedition Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Ford Expedition?

The 2019 Ford Expedition stands out in the full-size SUV segment for its exceptional comfort and luxurious appointments. Its spacious interior is designed to accommodate up to eight passengers, making sure that everyone, even those in the third row, can enjoy ample legroom and headroom. The seats are supportive, with higher trims offering leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and even a heated steering wheel, making long drives more pleasurable. The ride quality is smooth, as the Expedition’s suspension is tuned to absorb road imperfections, providing passengers with a serene travel experience even on rough terrains.

Additionally, the cabin is well-insulated, which minimizes road and wind noise, allowing for quiet conversations and an enhanced audio listening experience. With its advanced climate control system and panoramic sunroof available on some models, the Expedition guarantees a comfortable ambiance throughout. Moreover, thoughtful features such as multiple USB ports and power outlets, as well as an intuitive infotainment system, further add to the overall comfort and convenience of the vehicle. The 2019 Ford Expedition offers a harmonious blend of luxury and functionality, providing comfort for all its occupants.

How Much Storage Space Does the Ford Expedition Have?

The 2019 Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV that offers impressive cargo capacity to accommodate the needs of families, adventurers, and those who require substantial storage for their journeys. Specifically, behind the third-row seats, the Expedition provides 20.9 cubic feet of storage space. This is ample room for several suitcases or a weekly grocery haul.

When the third-row seats are folded down, the available cargo space expands to a generous 63.6 cubic feet, enough to accommodate larger items such as bicycles or furniture pieces. If even more space is required, folding down both the second and third rows will reveal a cavernous 104.6 cubic feet of storage area, which is large enough for substantial hauls, like moving large furniture or storing camping equipment for a family trip. Additionally, the Expedition is equipped with several smaller interior storage spaces including door pockets, a sizable glovebox, cupholders, and a center console bin, making it easy to organize and store personal items and smaller essentials while on the move.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The fourth generation of the Ford Expedition was launched for the 2018 model year.

2015: Updated engine software, new suspension, and minor exterior styling changes.

2016: Improved Sync 3 stereo system replaces the old MyFord Touch.

2017: No changes from earlier years.

2018: Fully redesigned for the fourth generation with new engine, updated interior, and an all new exterior.

2019: No major changes after the full redesign last year.

2020: King Ranch model offered, new Black Accent package available, which has darker exterior trim.

2021: New entry-level Expedition XL base model introduced, XLT model has optional Co-Pilot 360 Assist safety features.

How Does the Ford Expedition Compare to the Competition?

The 2019 Ford Expedition is a nice full size SUV, offering plenty of room for passengers along with some good technology features, which help it earn our recommendation for shoppers.

The Chevy Tahoe is another large SUV, which can be found for around $3,500 more. The Chevy Tahoe has stronger V8 engines, while the Ford Expedition offers more passenger room in the third row. We recommend the Chevy Tahoe, although both are similar and it’s worth test driving both to see which works better for you.

The Lincoln Navigator is a more luxurious version of the Ford Expedition, which costs around $6,000 more. Interior materials are much nicer in the Lincoln Navigator, while the Ford Expedition has better long-term reliability ratings. We recommend the Ford Expedition since there are fewer issues, but if you’re looking for luxury, then the Navigator offers passenger room and upscale materials.

Expedition max review from a mom of a crazy crew!
I love my expedition max! The only thing I do not love is not really having anywhere to put my purse. I upgraded from a van to an SUV and the SUV does not have a cut out slot like my van did. My expedition is super reliable, it has never left me stranded and comfortably sits my 3 children and 2 bonus children. It gets up and goes while merging onto the highway, I am not afraid to merge into high speed traffic. I love the apple carplay feature! It essentially turns it into navigation when using maps since my vehicle does not have this option. I love this feature. My seats are very comfortable and we love the headroom in the truck as well. My partner is 6 foot 3 inches and sits comfortably with legroom and headroom.

A black SUV that looks like a light military car in my opinion.
Sometimes the car may go on a pothole and may or may not get stuck in it other than that, the chairs and features overall are very comfy and reliable that will also include the overall performance, also if you are going on a trip or go camping then a ford expedition is a great choice to go for.

Love the comfort of the vehicle. Love the interior and open feel the car has on the inside. We have bucket seats in the second row and it's been so helpful with two kids. I also have the key that allows you to start the vehicle while walking to it. This has been a lifesaver in the Texas heat. We also really love the look of the car- it looks so sleek. Great Vehicle EXCEPT for the leaking window seals leaking and freezing the door lock actuator
I bought my 2019 Expedition Max in October and love it. Except for the bottom seal on the drivers side window which is 1/4 inch too short and rain water leaks in and drips in on the door lock actuator and freezes and is impossible to open the drivers side door and I have to climb in over the huge console to get in AND OUT!!!! Until I can defrost the actuator.

We've had fords previously and have had good luck with them. We love our expedition. We like the comfort while traveling. Also plenty of room for extra passengers. The gas mileage is as good or better as any other SUV. We like the way it looks and drives. We also get good service at our local dealership. We have been dealing with them for about 15 years. It is extremely dependable. But very expensive to fix. It also has a few issues of leaking which I didn't expect. But, I would buy another one if I am ever in the market for a new vehicle. It drives very comfortably. But the vehicle has to have repairs more than previous vehicles have needed to be.

New Driver Loving The Ride
I've gotten the car fairly recently and there seems to be no visible problems as of recently. The design of the car from the outside are stunning coming from a car lover. The interior is extremely comfortable and organized. The exterior of my car is a deep maroon color which contrasts the beige interior. The seating is leather making the ride seem extremely luxurious. Expedition exceeds expectations.
The ford expedition XLT is a reliable, truly 'built ford tough' vehicle. For a vehicle with its performance capabilities, it gets great gas mileage, can be set in multiple modes to utilize better gas mileage or more performance as needed. It has many standard 'creature comforts' like heated seats. The only downside is the shell of the interior is easily scratched. With multiple family members and pets, my doors and cabin area are scratched.

What I like best about my ford expedition is the adjusting pedals.
Very practical, spacious, and comfortable. I love the sunroof. There is an abundance of leg room for the passengers in the middle row and a decent amount of room on the third row. The vehicle drives smooth and is very quiet. I love it because it turns on a dime! I love the camera that surround the vehicle so that I can see around the vehicle completely. I am only 5 foot and it is very difficult for me to find a large SUV that allows me to reach the pedals and see over the steering wheel and with the self adjusting pedals and seats, I am able to do both!

Comfort and the 3rd row seat is really great. I like it has a backup camera. Do wish you did not had to go up in grade to get the lane departure. With Subaru brand all the cars have all the safety features. With how people text or do other things while driving it would make the roads a lot safer if that was on most if not all cars.

I love the second row because I am able to put 3 car seats across the row and my kids do not feel crammed in. I can also make my second row into bucket seats when the kids get older!

This is a very quality vehicle.
Love the comfort and how well it drives. Many bonus options that add to the experience of riding in vehicle. My favorite feature is the massage seats. They are great during long car rides. The vehicle is very easy to park considering its size. We have had no issues with the vehicle in the two years we have owned it.

The best vehicle to take on road trips with family and friends!
I really love the space that the expedition offers. I have captain seating and it is the best. When we take trips, we always have plenty of space for friends and family. It would make the perfect family vehicle, especially if you have children! It drives smooth and I haven't had any technical issues with it. The 911 assist and navigation system are also great features on the expedition. Overall, I highly recommend the expedition. If you are looking for space, comfort, and something that rides good, then the expedition would be my top pick!

Premier supercharged expedition!
Awesome vehicle! I live the technology, executive riding comfort and interior space! It does however have a twin turbo, supercharged v6 engine, which is probably going to be a slight boost in insurance premiums. It is worth the cost increase to drive this premium SUV.

Very good car the ford expedition limited.
It is really good on the inside. The driving is really smooth. It has cool features. The feature is 4 wheel drive. It has really nice leather seats in the whole car. I have not had any problems with it. From the outside it looks really good too. Hope this helps.

Remote trunk is my favorite feature.
Car is great on gas without loss of power. Handles well and many can fit however the back seats are kind of small. The parking space is great once the back seat is folded down. The trunk closing by remote is also a great feature. If it had a remote starter would be great. I love the keyless start feature through.

Love my 2019 silver expedition!
I love my expedition! We have a family of 5 and it provides more than enough room for us! I have the bench seat on the 2nd row so I can keep my 3rd row down for extra storage! Comfortable seats and good gas mileage. I have the silver with black leather interior.

Decent styling and comfort
Only issue is the aluminum hood shakes violently when passed on the highway by semi trucks.

Expedition review - great performance but wish it had more room.
I wished my vehicle had a bit more room in the trunk area. I also wished it had a few more features on it. I think it drives great. It has great acceleration. It is very comfortable. I really enjoy the app that you can use to lock, unlock and start the vehicle.

2019 ford expedition XLT, most features you want at a lower price.
The 2019 ford expedition XLT is an amazing vehicle. Has about every bell and whistle you can ask for at a reasonable price. The heated and cooling seats are the best part in my opinion. Back up camera is awesome as well. The app and vehicle work with Alexa. Love I can start my vehicle with Alexa or my apple watch.

All round decent SUV
Went from a 2016 Expedition to a 2019. The style changes are great! Have experienced a faulty rear hatch close switch. The worst problem is the hood shakes like its going to fly off when highway driving and a semi passes or its really windy. Ford looked at it and added foam inside the hood. Didn’t work.

I have a 2019 ford expedition.
I love my car I really have no complaints. It fits our family. I had an explorer first and my daughter wrecked it. I love the safety measures in the ford vehicles. It has good power when needed and I love that it stops you from hitting something if your not paying attention.

All the feels of the ford expedition.
I absolutely love my ford expedition. It is very spacious allowing for easy loading and unloading of groceries as well as all the kids sports gear. My kids love the amount of room they have on long trips. The size of the sunroof is one of my favorite features. I love the open feeling when driving around town. The sounds system is top notch. The Bluetooth feature for phone calls is amazing. Callers can hear my children from the back of the vehicle which is a plus when grandparents call while we are out and about. My expedition has proven to be a very reliable vehicle. Super comfortable and so much fun to drive/ride around!

Best large family SUV around.
The space in this vehicle is like no other. The third row is the roomiest seat in all SUVs. The car is smooth ride and drives super well. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone with multiple kids. The cargo space is large and deep and easily fits all sports gear. Great for traveling.

Luxury feel with a bunch of amenities.
Very comfortable and spacious. Has a luxury feel to it, and you can connect your phone easily for a hands free driving experience. I love having the ability to have the a/c blow air from the seat, along with heated seats. I love the pilot seating in the back so people can get in and out easily.

Falling in love with my first new car.
I love my expedition. Hands free answering and calling, heating and cooling seats, sunroof, backup camera, hands free hatch back opening, very roomy. Tinted windows, excellent gas mileage. I have not had any problems with the vehicle. I love the twin turbos when I need power.
