The stereo system is easy to use, there’s a ton of passenger room in the cabin and the V6 engine offers good power.
dislikeFilled The Bad
There are a lot of cheap plastic buttons in the interior, steering is unresponsive and the brake pedal feels very soft.

This is the best ford expedition SUV I would highly recommend it for anyone.
Best vehicle I have ever driven, it pretty much drives itself. I love how you can set the cruise control and how many car links behind in your car will automatically speed up and slow down due to traffic conditions, this is the best feature for long trips. It is easy for my children to walk back-and-forth to the front and the back were sitting in a parking lot for a sporting or school event. There’s plenty of room for my dogs kids and luggage. I cannot see myself driving another vehicle after I have drove the ford expedition. I have absolutely no comments or have had any issues.

Review for 2020 ford expedition.
My family is big. We had such a hard time finding something that fits our needs. This definitely does! I absolutely love this SUV. I have a family of six and this car seats eight. Plenty of trunk space! All of my kiddos are involved in sports and I never have an issue hauling their equipment and a few coolers. There is three rows of seats and all of the seats fold down if needed.

Roomy SUV with lots of leg space and comfortable seats.
The 2020 ford expedition sits near the top of our large SUV rankings. It has a powerful turbocharged engine, a composed ride, and a spacious, elegant interior, but its massive size can make it difficult to maneuver. The car is very roomy, seats are comfortable with plenty of leg space. The heated and cooled seats are a plus.

Haven't had any issues with the new fords. It is comfy, great on gas mileage, roomy and has all the high tech functions of a robot which makes me feel safe. There are plenty of bells and whistles on it that we are still learning about but it is a nice luxury car that I will have for a long time.

My wife has me by the balls and I don’t wear the pants in the relationship. She strong armed me into buying an Expedition rather than a real truck with a bed. What Do Critics Say About the Ford Expedition?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Ford Expedition is a good leap forward in SUV design, with relatively high owner satisfaction scores as it ages.
  • Edmunds gives the Ford Expedition a 3.8/5, enjoying the high towing capacity for an SUV, but doesn’t like that it needs premium fuel to get the full horsepower.
  • Kelley Blue Book users rate the Expedition at 4.1/5, praising the excellent ride quality with a smooth suspension, but owners don’t like the wind noise at highway speeds.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Ford Expedition Have?

Common problems found on the 2020 Ford Expedition include delayed gear changes, rats eating the soy-based wiring, along with some check engine lights. Overall, these problems are similar to some other full size SUVs, leading to average repair costs as an Explorer ages.

Delayed gear changes are the most widespread complaint from 2020 Expedition owners, showing up at around 2,500 miles. There are transmission software updates available which improve the speed of the gear changes. Most dealerships will install these for free, while others charge around $100 for labor.

Rats eating the soy-based wiring is another problem mentioned on the 2020 Ford Expedition. If you cannot park your SUV in a garage, then we recommend using an ultrasonic repellant with strobe light to help keep rats out of your engine compartment. Damaged wiring can cost thousands to replace.

Check engine lights have also been reported on some Expedition models within the first 10,000 miles. You will need to use an OBD-II scan tool to read the source of the code from the ECU. Once you know the source of the problem, it can cost $20 to $500 to fix, depending on the complexity.

There are nine recalls on the 2020 Ford Expedition, which is worse than many other large SUVs on the market. The most serious recall covers the gear position display, which may be inaccurate, allowing the vehicle to roll away. Ford will update the software on affected models for free. Other recalls include the seatbelt tensioner, windshield wipers, and headrests. Ford will fix these problems for free as well.

How Long Will the 2020 Ford Expedition Last?

A well-maintained 2020 Ford Expedition can last around 200,000 miles, which is shorter than the long-lasting Toyota Sequoia. Regular annual maintenance costs are higher than some competitors, according to data from Repair Pal, at $811 per year.

As a used 2020 Expedition reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history report, owners should be prepared to replace the transmission mount for $250, the oxygen sensor costing $325, along with the exhaust downpipe which costs around $450.

How Is the Technology?

The standard entertainment technology is great, and includes an 8-inch touchscreen stereo system. Optional upgrades include a premium Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Standard safety technology is excellent and features:

  • Lane keep assist
  • MyKey
  • Forward collision warning
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Lane departure warning
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Forward automatic emergency braking
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Rearview camera

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • Front parking sensors
  • Stop-and-go adaptive cruise control
  • Parallel and perpendicular park assist
  • Side impact sensors
  • Surround-view parking camera system

Is the 2020 Ford Expedition a Good Value?

Yes, the 2020 Ford Expedition is a good value if you’re in the market for a full size SUV that can fit a lot of people and cargo. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $34,350 to $75,740, making it more than a Nissan Armada or Dodge Durango. When new, the price range was $52,810 to $80,110. Depreciation is similar to other large SUVs, losing about 8% of its current value per year.

What Engines Come In the Ford Expedition?

The 2020 Ford Expedition is equipped with a powerful and efficient 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, designed to deliver robust performance and towing capability. This engine generates a substantial 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission that provides smooth and quick gear shifts, enhancing the driving experience. This setup achieves a combined fuel economy of around 17-19 MPG, depending on the drive configuration. In terms of acceleration, the Expedition can sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in about 6.2 to 6.7 seconds, depending on the model and load. Additionally, this engine gives the Expedition an impressive towing capacity, capable of towing up to 9,300 pounds when properly equipped, making it a great option for hauling trailers or boats.

What Colors Does the Ford Expedition Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Ford Expedition?

The 2020 Ford Expedition is widely recognized for its exceptional comfort, making it a top choice for families and long-distance travelers. This full-size SUV excels in providing a spacious and relaxing interior, designed to provide comfort for all passengers on any journey. Inside, the Expedition boasts three rows of seating, with ample legroom and headroom in each row, which is a significant advantage over many competitors. The seats themselves are designed for comfort, with the front seats offering adjustments, including lumbar support, to help the driver and front passenger find their ideal seating position. Higher trims even feature heated and ventilated seats, adding an extra layer of comfort in different weather conditions.

The ride quality of the Expedition is another highlight. Thanks to its well-tuned suspension, the vehicle smoothly absorbs bumps and road irregularities, providing a serene and stable ride even on rough terrains. The cabin is also well insulated from outside noise, providing a quiet and peaceful environment, which is especially appreciated on long trips.

In terms of climate control, the Expedition is equipped with a robust system that effectively maintains a comfortable temperature throughout the cabin, even for rear-seat passengers, thanks to the multi-zone climate control system. For additional convenience, the Expedition includes various features like multiple USB ports and cup holders, making sure passengers can stay connected and refreshed.

How Much Storage Space Does the Ford Expedition Have?

The 2020 Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV renowned for its ample storage space, making it ideal for both family trips and hauling large items. In terms of cargo capacity, the Expedition offers a generous amount of room. Behind the third row of seats, it provides about 20.9 cubic feet of space. When the third-row seats are folded down, this expands to about 63.6 cubic feet. For maximum cargo space, folding down both the second and third rows unveils a vast area of around 104.6 cubic feet. This expansive space can easily accommodate a wide range of items. For example, with the seats up, it’s spacious enough for a family’s grocery haul, several large suitcases, or camping gear. With the seats folded, it can hold larger items like furniture pieces, multiple large suitcases, or sporting equipment like bikes and kayaks.

Besides the main cargo area, the 2020 Expedition also includes numerous small storage spaces designed for convenience and organization. These include a large center console, door pockets, cupholders, and an overhead console for smaller items like phones, wallets, and snacks. Additionally, there’s a hidden storage compartment under the floor of the cargo area, perfect for keeping valuables out of sight or organizing smaller items. The design of these compartments is thoughtful, making sure that while the main cargo space is used for larger items, the smaller spaces help keep essential items within easy reach, making the Expedition a practical choice for both daily use and longer journeys.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The fourth generation of the popular Ford Expedition was introduced for the 2018 model year.

2015: Updated engine software, minor exterior styling changes, and a new smoother suspension.

2016: The improved Sync 3 stereo system replaces the older MyFord Touch system.

2017: No changes from earlier years.

2018: Fully redesigned for the fourth generation with new engines, exterior styling changes, and a refreshed interior.

2019: No big changes after the total redesign last year.

2020: King Ranch luxury model introduced, new Black Accent package offered with dark exterior trim.

2021: New entry-level Expedition XL model launched, the XLT model has more safety technology in the Co-Pilot 360 package.

How Does the Ford Expedition Compare to the Competition?

The 2020 Ford Expedition is a very good full size SUV, offering a ton of passenger room and better efficiency than the V8-powered competitors on the market.

The Chevy Tahoe is another large SUV, which costs about $2,500 less. Off-road performance is better in the Chevy Tahoe, while the Ford Expedition offers more passenger room. We recommend the Chevy Tahoe since it has slightly higher reliability ratings, but both are great choices.

The Toyota Sequoia is a popular full-size SUV, which is available for $3,500 more. Long-term reliability ratings are better in the Toyota Sequoia, while the Ford Expedition offers more luxurious interior materials. We recommend the Toyota Sequoia since it’s the longest-lasting full size SUV on the market.

A few pros and cons of 2020 expedition max.
We recently made this purchase 8.1.2020. We needed an upgrade with space for our family of six. One thing I love is that it rides so much smoother than our Cadillac escalade 2011, but the trunk space is not as ideal as we imagined granted given the extra space up front. Love the camera views. Still takes getting a little used to for parking with such a big car. We’ve had a few recalls already, hope this does not cause major issues in the future. This is our first time leasing for 3 years, so we will see if we end up purchasing or continue to lease again.

Have not had any problems so far and love my dash alerts and standard features. So far it has been so easy to maneuver and use. What sets the expedition apart from other makes is the awesome exterior style.
This vehicle can fit the whole family and still get over 20 mpg. The ecoboost has incredible power that can tow just about anything you put behind it. We regularly tow a 20' boat for family vacations. We chose to go with the XLT trim with leather and middle row bucket seats. Back seat riders have the luxury of heated seats and USB ports located throughout the cabin. The panoramic sunroof is massive and an awesome feature.

Looks and works great except for camera.
I love the interior and the liners that come with the floorboard. I wish it came with the 3rd row liner and trunk liner. It has plenty of room. I have been having problems with the back up camera which is pretty annoying considering it is brand new. It turns blue sometimes and sometimes it is black. It is also very hard to see sometimes I am guessing because of the sun glaring on it. Other than the camera issue it operates great and I couldn’t be more happy.

A large car for a non-minivan family.
This car has Wi-Fi, 3 rows, and a decent amount of trunk space. Air conditioning is separate for the front and back of the car. The second row has 3 prong ac outlets and the drivers and passengers seat are both warmed and cooled. Leg room in the 3rd row may be an issue for taller passengers. The car drives smoothly and is overall a great vehicle.

My expedition drives so smooth. Love the backup camera, I can back up straight into a spotted exactly centered with its assistance. I do not care for the engine shut off when you come to a complete stop, but it is very easy to turn off with the touch of a very accessible button. I didn't think I would like the assistance that keeps you in your lane but also an easy button to hit to turn it off. But I actually use it quite a bit. The theft alarm is very touchy. There's a couple of things one of which is that the car makes noise a weird mechanic noise about an hour after you shut it off and is very odd. Another is that I wish the console buttons and features were a little more user-friendly, they are just a little confusing and seem to not work almost out of the picture show I wish it was all touch screen or just have nots 150 buttons just to turn the rear air on.

I love this vehicle, it is extremely spacious, perfect for road trips.
The car has a lot of space, it is extremely comfortable. It has Bluetooth and it is a push start vehicle. It has a ecoboost v6 engine, which is efficient. It has start-stop technology which is very useful. It also comes with co-pilot 360 technology, it helps assist with breaking and helps with my confidence on the road.

Great multipurpose vehicle.
So far so good! Hauls trailer well. Hauls two kids well in car seats. The TVs are a really nice perk, which are only used on long car trips for the boys. It does well on the highway and back roads, very smooth transmission shifting, excellent braking system.

Great family car for family.
Love the car! We decided to get the max and are so happy with the extra room in the back. I wish the mirrors tilted down when reversing. Overall the car is super comfortable to drive, reminds me of driving a truck. It is fuel efficient. Would highly recommend for a great family car.
