Great truck.. Bad idea
Whoever thought a sealed engine was a good idea, should be fired lol. I love this truck, I want to work on it, not some dealership. Other than that I love this truck.

Ford car is a car for you so go and buy one for you and your family.
Its ok, gives me a lot of problems, need to fix a lot, I put a lot of money into it, if you like fords then buy one they are ok, they drive good and good in the snow, so if you like to save gas it's good on gas, it is safe, i like it, I would tell people to buy one for the snow and gas.

I love my truck. It has so much room and rides really well. I had issues with the transmission jamming in between gears at one point but after getting under it and unjamming it, I have not had any trouble since.

My vehicle is an awesome size. It is not too little where I am dragging on the floor, but also not too large that I don't fit in places.
My car tends to have a lot of issues with the starter. I have countless problems with the starter just going out and me needing to fix it. I have also had to replace numerous parts just to keep the vehicle alive. However, when things are not breaking and actually work I love my car.

My SUVs review. I hope that my review will help others.
My ford explorer XLT is in great shape and the 4x4 works great in the snow and mud. The only problem I have had is that I had to replace the 2 front wheel hubs other than that it is been a great SUV and I have 256,654 miles. It has a lot of room in it and it has 3 rows of seats.

V8 cylinder has no problem making power and fairly good Highway economy, 23 miles per gallon Isley easily attained by less than 2000 RPMs at highway speeds
I am very pleased with my Ford Explorer it is all wheel drive and plenty of room and very luxurious inside. The only thing I do not like about the engine has a plastic intake manifold which is beginning to crumble and leak.
accountCircle Johnny D on March 5, 2021
It is reliable transportation and is up to most tasks.
My 2002 Explorer has been very reliable overall. I have not had any mechanical problems that were not expected due to normal wear and tear. There are a few things that I would have liked to have been different about it though. I am a big guy and would like the cabin to be a few inches wider. When I am driving the center console forces my right leg to the left which makes it uncomfortable on me for long drives. This is not an issue when I am in the passenger seat, and this is not an issue for my wife a all. The seats are not the most comfortable but give decent support and comfort. There is plenty of room for 5 plus a lot of cargo space in the back. The 6 cylinder engine has enough power to pull a small boat or other trailer a highway speeds.

Love my vehicle very safe.
The performance and reliability of this vehicle have been great. It was my grandpas and then he passed it down to me. I have hardly had any problems with it in my 5 years of driving. I feel very safe. The only issue is the check engine light comes on randomly.

High mileage Ford Explorer sport '02. W/186, 000 miles.
Ford lifetime ball joints wear out at about 150, 000 miles and must be replaced. Ford has a very good stereo sound system. There is no easy way to change the transmission fluid, there is no drain plug. The a/c is very dependable, no service required.

Life with a Ford Explorer
The vehicle is a good car. It's reliable and never broke on me. I take care of my vehicle on my own. This is the second time I own a Ford Explorer. The first time the timing chain went and it require over $2000 in repairs. I was not happy and was told you had to remove the whole engine to replace the chains.

Nice reliable vehicle good for medium sized families.
Very nice family car that is quite comfortable and good for long drives when going on vacation, it is an older vehicle so nearly all the interior is outdated. Reliability wise it is not too bad either seeing as it is been on the road for sixteen years already. All in all it is a very nice vehicle to own. Also a nice starter car.

Love Explorer! Great family car!!
No problems with this car, runs great, heat & air work and good gas mileage. I do not like the stereo system in it but it is something I could look past. Very comfortable car, I make long trips and it is great for that. Previous owner was a smoker so it has an underlying smell of cigarette smoke but not a huge deal, managed to get most of it out.

The good, bad, and ugly - but why I wouldn't trade my '02 Explorer for a new one.
I love it because it's not the new body type which looks like a station wagon. I love it because it sits up high and still had the chassis of the F150. What I don't like about it was that these models had transmission issues that Ford was aware of but didn't take responsibility for and also had real wheel issues that they didn't take responsibility for because it would have been too much $ for them. However, my truck has over 270K miles on (3 trans later) and is going strong. I'll keep her going as long as I can because I don't want a new one (because of the body types).
accountCircle Jakob M on January 24, 2021
It's a great car and has a lot of room in it for storage.
It is older so I need to repair it semi often. The wheel bearing is a issue that affects that model. I do like how the card rides and it is pretty reliable.
accountCircle Rae M on January 22, 2021
The 2002 model is prone to having its door sensors stop registering that the door is closed making your light stay on and drain your battery. The light is hard to recognize as on during the day so it's easy to have a battery die while out if the issue occurs. However, the sensor is an easy fix.
It's a Ford which I'm not that fond of brand wise. The only saving graces that it is affordable. It also has enough seating for my kids with functional climate control in the back desperate from the front.
accountCircle Aidin R on January 19, 2021

It has 245,000 miles on it and you have to be gentle with it. Treat it like an elderly person.
The most important thing I love about my vehicle is the fact that it is American made. It is relatively cheap and simple to fix. The thing I dislike the most is having to actually replace the engine components regularly due to the fact that they are plastic. I have high mileage, approximately 245,00 miles and it still runs well, so long as all of the plastic parts stay in tact. The only complaint I have is the plastic engine parts. I mean really, who the hell thought that was a good idea? Just sayin

Ford Explorer review for the ages.
I ignore the heck out of it and it keeps on going. All I have had to do to it is get the oil changed. When winter comes I might have to get the tires changed but that is New England for ya. This is the first car I have ever owned so it is a beater. Hopefully it will get me through the next year or two.

Ford Explorers are great family SUVs.
The 2002 Ford Explorer has been a great vehicle for us. We have only had a few problems since purchasing as a second owner in 2003. The usual brakes, wipers and starter problems have existed but were easily taken care of. Maintenance is minimal if kept on top of. Performs very well on and off-road. I would purchase another.

'02 Explorer XLT for Life
This is my second Explorer XLT. I love the way it drives. It doesn't feel like a big truck which is nice for me. The interior space is incredible. My only complaint about this particular one is that the door sensors are faulty after some time. The Explorer itself is notorious for the fuel pump to go out as it ages, but if taken care of early it's an easy and much cheaper fix. I'll likely keep it until it's run into the ground.

Overall, my car has been nothing but reliable. I've had it for many years and have only had to really do routine maintenance. I would say my car has served as a great asset for a woman that purchased this as a used vehicle when I bought it. Sunroof is nice and having space for move 8 people and still have a lot of room.
Great vehicle, gray with Bluetooth stereo, new battery, new alternator, new starter, 3rd row seating and sunroof, good on gas but have some minor rust in door frame not noticeable until you open the doors, great in the winter and needs air conditioned looked at, nice truck space and seats go down for more space to move items.

They quit making them after 2007.
It's a small truck. I love the silver color. It's slips on wet surfaces.

Older Truck that Keeps Going
I like the way my truck drives. It just seems to 'fit' me well. Large enough for when I need to carry up to four additional people or pull a trailer, but small enough to navigate and park in town. It's old, but I like it. I've had what I would consider to be normal problems for a 17-year-old truck.

2002 Ford Explorer truck review.
Good for space. There is three rows and the back row of seats can let down. I love the fact the seats are heated in the front and there are separation between the run and rear part of the car. It does not do well on gas and sometimes the gas meter is off but I love how it tells you when you are low and how many miles until empty. So far I have not had any issues knock on wood besides basic car maintenance such as oil changes.

It is a pretty dependable vehicle and I'd recommend it to others.
I love my Explorer. It's spacious enough for my family still sporty enough to go cruising alone. The gas mileage isn't terrible but could be better. It makes hauling things around pretty easy.

It can definitely compete with the big ones.
I like the size. Its comfortable. Enough space for groceries and capable to drive efficiently and safely.

Useful, dependable if a bit uninspired.
It is dependable. We are active people with many outdoor hobbies and the SUV is perfect for carrying bikes, hiking gear and kayaks. The 4 wheel drive is useful when we are driving on unpaved roads.

It is reliable and will take loads of cargo without a problem.
I like the convenience for hauling loads; I don't like the fact that the air conditioner doesn't work.

The perfect family and keeps family happy.
I really like my truck, it has been very reliable, it only broke down twice, it is perfect for my family, it ride good for a older vehicle, it has really good features, I am able to use my choice in music, it comfortable for long term trips and very roomy for all the extra stuff.

My vehicle is relative safe to drive and ride. It is also too cool.
I like the body size and engine size of the vehicle. However, it lacks a screen to accommodate a gps navigation system.
