Ford Fiesta: Fun Car with a Difficult Transmission

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

Overall I like my Fiesta. The only problem it has is the type of transmission. If I had known that the PowerShift transmission Ford put in these cars was difficult, I would have purchased a different car. After driving for an extended period of time, the car shudders as it changes gears during acceleration. In stop-and-go traffic, it can be a nightmare. More than once has the shuddering or lack of acceleration nearly gotten me into an accident. However, when the transmission is working okay, like after I first turn it on, it's a fun car to drive and has a nice bit of get-up-and-go for such a small car. I like the SYNC system, which controls the Bluetooth and auxiliary functions. The car is very sleek inside, even if there is not a lot of room. I am 5'11' and I fit fine with the driver's seat all the way back, and there's enough room in the back on the passenger side for my child's car seat (even though her feet rest up on the back of the seat already). My husband is 6'9' and while he can fit in the seat in an emergency it is not comfortable at all for him. Like I said, I like the car other than its transmission issues and I would suggest this car only for someone who does not do a lot of daily driving in any kind of rush-hour traffic.

Buyer beware, it is a gamble.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

I would like to start off by saying I originally made my purchase due to high miles per gallon, and cheapest to insure and I cannot deny that this car has easily met and exceeded my every expectation. Unfortunately, that is where all the benefits end. I needed to get a new transmission or transmission chip, even though I bought the car used, thank god it was still under factory warranty because that would have cost me around $1,500. And then I had to get my heat fixed because all the seals broke, which is not covered under any warranty and that did cost me around $1,300. The electronics then shorted, and thank god again that it was still under manufacturer warranty they had to replace everything, which would have cost me another 1500. I want to love this car so badly but it is not making it easy. I have the upgraded seats which I love because they add a third height option, which I didn't even know that was, allowing for perfect customisation and comfort. I also had some seal in the engine block break which cost me 300. This is all within a 2-year time frame in which I made the original purchase.

I would like for the backseat to be a little more roomy.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

I got my 2013 Ford Fiesta about a year ago in April. It was second hand, and the previous owner had kept it in pristine condition! What I noticed right from the start is how smooth of a drive it was! The air conditioning when turned on max AC was powerful! My car allows me to connect my phone to Bluetooth audio and stream music through my stereo which I didn't have in my previous vehicle. I do not use the Sirius radio option through. It also has a nice aux feature that I do use but not as often as the Bluetooth. I like the fact that my car tells me how many miles I have before I hit an empty tank, that is very useful in my opinion. I understand that the model of the car is a small build, but I do not like how small the interior is. I feel like the back seats could be back a little farther, because even my sister (who is just a little thing) feels slightly uncomfortable in the back seat. I find myself always having to adjust my seat to accommodate for extra space for her legs.

Reliable little car with only minor cosmetic flaws.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

Good little car. Sometimes it is so small it is difficult for other drivers on the road to spot you; other times the car can completely hide behind others in a parking lot. It takes a bit of manpower to get the car to accelerate but that is pretty standard for a small car. The engine tends to shudder from a full stop, which feels bad to riders but ultimately you get used to it. Only main issue I have had is with the aux hook up to my iPhones; it frequently errors out and you have to reconnect multiple times to get the music to play. Bluetooth works no problem. Ford tries to tell you it's because the music is not purchased legally... Not sure how the car would know that. After 5 years the speakers tend to get fuzzy on hot days. There was one issue with a door latch breaking, but that was addressed in a recall. Good small car, the hatchback provides lots of room and a comfortable ride.

Ok for first vehicle, not great for self maintenance

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

I like the size and style of my vehicle but a lot the problems are functional or mechanical. The transmission is a unique hybrid of automatic and mechanic. I have had the car for 6 years and I had to get the transmission fixed (under warranty) a couple of years ago. The car is very difficult to do self maintenance on. The engine is more compact than it needs to be which makes me think it is intentionally designed to encourage using the dealership mechanics instead of fixing things yourself. The radio/audio has begun to have issues turning on now. It is my first vehicle and I do like it for what it is but in the future I think I would go for an older car with a more traditional transmission and that is easier to perform self maintenance on.

Nightmare! 2013 fiesta hb SE

2013 Ford Fiesta se

Had 5 years from new and nothing but a headache! 7 transmissions, 1 compressor replaced which went again right after warranty expired and they wanted $1600 to replace again lol so i dumped it 2 weeks ago and didn't look back. Bad door latches, ford dealership cracked the door panels and put glue over the cracks which stuck out horribly! Bad bad gas mileage! Most i got was 17mpg and when I finally dumped it, was getting 11! Service department confirmed it. Many other issues. Cute but a NIGHTMARE!!! Never a ford again! Bad experience.. i can't give a minus rating or even a 0 lol

- Kriss

Gets you from point a to point b but not super comfortable.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

2013 fiestas have major transmission issues. I had to get parts of the transmission changed out at least 4 times. I think the whole transmission was changed out once. Luckily ford extended the transmission/suspension system warranty on this year/model due to all the issues. Interior is cramped compared to other hatchbacks. Warms up quickly in winter, sound system is good. Sync system is not the most user friendly but for the few basic functions I use it for, it works well.

Cute and fun car but very shifty.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

This car is very shifty. May seem like it has transmission issues but it's due to the way ford built these cars. After purchasing my vehicle I found on google that the ford fiestas were a lemon car and there was a lawsuit. The car is cute, has decent amount of room inside, and has fun features such as lights on the floors and cup holders that can change colors with a button. Very easy to drive car.

Ford Fiesta SE Hatchback: Eco-friendly and Fun to Drive!

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

Comfortable, sleek, and GREAT on gas! An affordable and eco-friendly option for all. I drive it to and from college (several hundred miles) and rarely have to fill up on gas (roughly 500 miles per full tank).Though small, the Fiesta can hold its own. It can carry 5 passengers comfortably and the hatchback offers extra space for storage. SYNC Bluetooth and aux cord are great additional features.

- Courtney E

My vehicle is small and can be good on gas if you try hard.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

It is had a transmission recall; had it replaces three times, a air bags recall, and a door latch recall. Rims bend easily if hit a hit pole no matter your speed. It says it has good gas mileage but it goes down from 40 to 30 very easily. I drive highway mostly and always on cruise control at 75 but it tends to knock it down a lot unless you drive 65. Also burns more gas than what I drive.

- Ashley L

Why I love my fun ford fiesta.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

I keep up on the routine maintenance and the only issues I have had were covered by a recall. It is spacious enough to haul friends, lots of groceries and even 350 pounds of dogs. It gets excellent gas mileage, my average is 38 mpg. It is front wheel drive and I have never been stuck. My car is cute, sporty and fun, and can really get up and go when needed.

- Rae K

Clown Car meets TARDIS- it's bigger on the inside!

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

My Ford Fiesta is a great little car. Despite its small outward appearance, it is surprisingly roomy inside. It has low-lights inside as well that add a sense of fun to it as well. In the 5 years we have owned it, we have never had a major issue and it runs like a dream, even as we approach the 100,000 mile mark. Definitely a great little car for the price!

- Autumn C

Small uncomfortable boxcar.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

My vehicle it to small the ac does not work the engine light stays on when you drive it delays and take off when you press it is really good on gas for the most part. It seems like the tires on the vehicle tend to wear out easily I constantly have to buy new tires it is really uncomfortable to ride in there's no space no room just too crowded.

- Skye B

The vehicle is a hunk of junk; it has caused nothing but trouble since day one.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

The transmission has been a problem from the beginning. Currently, FMC is in multiple lawsuits regarding this issue as it is unsafe causing the automatic cars to stall between gears; often resulting in engine failure. In fact, when I bought the car the only person who knew that the car had a defect that could not be fixed was the salesman.

- Shannon G

Ford fiesta: surprisingly sturdy after 5+ years.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

Good car but small, sometimes gets hidden behind regular 4 door sedans. Definitely worried I might get destroyed by a larger car. Rarely wants to work with iPhone and ford sync getting spottier with age. Speakers sounding tinny after 5 years of use. Wears down tires at weird angles but only have to replace once. Average gas mileage.

- Jackie C

Its black with four doors, with a stuffed animal in the dashboard.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

My car works fine, besides the fact that sometimes the gas cover gets stuck, but I wish it was a cleaner style. It looks quite normal and sometimes I wish it stuck out more in a parking lot so it was easier to find. Also, I wish it had better mileage because I drive freeways a lot and stopping for gas less times would be nice.

- Maddie B

This car is so small, you can park almost anywhere.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

The clutch and the transmission had to be repair soon after I bought it. This car was not my choice, but it beats walking for two years! It is a nice little car but it is not a great car. It was said by some that this car was not made right. I had very bad credit so this car was over price to me. Too costly!

- Robert V

It's a fiesta with the Fiesta

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

I really love my fiesta. I got it in 2015 when my first vehicle was totaled in an accident. For a compact car, it has a lot of space in the back and in the trunk for my family and groceries. It tells me when I have a flat tire, need an oil change, etc. Plus I can use my voice to access various features.

- Megan L

Great gas mileage and very reliable

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

The only real issues I've had has been there's been a lot of callbacks on specific parts. I have had some issues with leaking as the car has gotten a little bit older. The biggest issues was my car would vibrate and get jumpy when I would break. It ended up being a common problem amongst Ford Fiestas.

- Brandon O

Ford Fiesta: Good For a First Car

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

The care is compact, and perfect for just me and someone else in the passenger seat. The back seat is small, and if you have children in back-facing car seats, only one will fit. Because of the offset of the engine, and the uneven weight distribution, it's important to keep up with tire maintenance.

- Cecilia M

Great deal, excellent gas mileage, perfect for city driving.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

Small car, but very roomy and comfortable inside. Lots of room in the trunk with the hatchback. Great gas mileage. There are known transmission problems, but Is easily avoidable. No gas cap; makes fueling up easy. It comes in a variety of cute colors. Has AUX cord, USB, and Bluetooth capabilities.

- J L

Ford Fiesta. It looks like a little spaceship zooming around.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

I had some major problems with the engine. Other than that it gets terrific gas mileage. I like that it's small which makes it very easy to park in the city and also in my apartment compact parking surface lot spot. However, the acceleration isn't the greatest when driving on the interstate.

- Mark B

voice activated so you can tell it to play the radio or connect to Bluetooth

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

The features inside are pretty cool. There are color changing lights below the dashboard that illuminate at night. Running wise my car isn't the best... the tires always get low on air, the pick up is terrible and makes my car shake. And when it's raining outside my car hydroplanes.

- Ariel S

Ford fiesta, hatchback with room.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

Transmission is shotty, there have been multiple recalls with issues for my vehicle. Gas mileage is great. If you are over 6 foot tall it is uncomfortable n to be in the car. I really love the lighting fixtures in the vehicle. I see myself having this car for quite some time.

- Taylor H

The perfect commuter car!

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

Overall I love my little car! I have not had any major issues. One consistent problem has been with the clutch but with a computer update it gets fixed quickly. It gets great gas mileage and has a spacious trunk for the size of the car. It is a great first time car.

- Steph Y

It has a sunroof! Also a great sound system.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

Good vehicle. Good on gas mileage very fun to drive. Good room for a compact. I am very satisfied with my vehicle. I recommend ford vehicles to everyone. I strongly endorse the ford brand. Ford definitely gets it right with how they manufacture their vehicles.

- Andrew B

Car doors would not close.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

My car jerks at times letting off the acceleration or accelerating after stopping. After buying my car there were 3 recalls for certain parts like the door hinges on the driver side door and the back passenger door would not allow the door to close completely.

- Mercedes D

Love the Bluetooth feature at the touch of a button I can answer my phone.

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

I had it for 6 months and the clutch assembly had to be replaced. It had to be replaced 4 times in the first 2 years. It has had a ticking noise since I got it which Ford said was normal. I love the look of my car but don't think it ever ran like a new car.

- Debra W

2013 Ford Fiesta is no Fiesta

2013 Ford Fiesta SE

Constantly having automatic transmission issues. Transmission slips. Dealership and Ford did nothing to help fix this problem. Constant stuttering noise. Very slow acceleration and problems with car computer every time oil change and electrical is finicky

- Danielle S

Lemon ford buyer beware, transmission issues.
