Mar 3, 2023

The 2020 Ford Fusion lasts around 250,000 miles with only some minor battery drain and transmission software issues reported. At $18,800 to $30,098, it’s a good choice for shoppers looking for a budget-friendly midsize sedan with some of the latest technology.

likeFilled The Good
The steering is very responsive, there’s a ton of passenger room and the Sync 3 stereo system has great features.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The base engine is weak, it’s not as efficient as other sedans and they lose value quicker than the competition.

Is the 2020 Ford Fusion a Good Used Car?

  • Overall Rating 8/10 – 2020 is a good year for the Ford Fusion since it’s spacious with good technology for the money. Owner reviews praise the low ownership costs, comfortable cabin, along with the efficient 4-cylinder engine options.
  • Interior, Comfort & Cargo 8/10 – Interior materials are nice for a midsize sedan in its price range, the seats are supportive, cargo space is also good in the trunk.
  • Reliability 8/10 – There are no widespread complaints on the 2020 Fusion. Avoid models from 20132016 which have a lot of engine issues. Models from 20172020 are more dependable options.

  • Safety 8/10 – The 2020 Fusion is safe, earning a perfect 5-star rating in government crash tests. It comes standard with a rearview camera, automatic emergency braking, along with lane keep assist. Adaptive cruise control is available as an optional upgrade.
  • Gas Mileage 8/10 – Fuel economy is good at up to 27 MPG, giving 445 miles of range out of the 16.5 gallon tank. Gas costs are $27 cheaper than average, at $154 per month.
  • Value 8/10 – The 2020 Ford Fusion is cheaper than a lot of other midsize sedans with low ownership costs, making it a good value.

Ford fusion 2020 is the last of Its kind!
I fell in love with this car the first time I saw it. Loved that it was a good size sedan without all the bulkiness of a SUV. There is tons of trunk space! Good lumbar support. All four windows are automatic. I have a touchscreen with GPS already installed. This sedan is great for a small family with one or 2 children or even a pet.

Like I said before it has the pre collision alarm which makes me feel very safe.
It is a very smooth drive. It is very good on gas I barely have to fill it up. It is a very safe car. It is a very beautiful car. Everytime I get in it I get so excited to drive. Sometimes I cannot sleep because I am so excited to drive this car the next day. It also has special features such pre collision alarm and it comes with apple carplay.

Reliable and safe mid-size option.
I love my fusion. The driver assist, lane keeping and emergency deceleration is a must! I have the seal and the only weird part about it is with all the upgraded features, it does not include heated seats. Car drives so smoothly and there’s a ton of room in the back seat along with the trunk. Sometimes my screen freezes, but I think I may have to update my system soon. Gas mileage is pretty good, and it has a big gas tank so it’ll last me around 350-400 miles if I was driving my normal work commute on the freeway. Overall love it and would get another when my lease is up.

Yes, the ford fusion is a good midsize.
Yes, the ford fusion is a good midsize car. It provides composed handling and a smooth ride, and its cabin has plenty of space across two rows of comfortable seats. It has a large trunk, and many of the infotainment features are easy to use. Though this ford's cabin is nice, it is not as upscale as some rival interiors.

2020 ford fusion is a great car.
I recently purchased my first brand new vehicle, it had 1,300 miles at purchase. After having 2 cars that were reliable yet worn out, knowing that my car has full reliability is a huge stress relief. In addition to the normal Bluetooth, backup camera, my car also comes equipped with a sensor on the front of the car to help prevent car accidents. Also, there is an app for my car that allows remote start, locking, unlocking, and sends me alerts if anything is wrong with the vehicle for any reason.

Wi-Fi, downloadable apps, touchscreen controlled everything.
My fusion is incredible. It is comfortable and I love the features, including the touch screen, collision assist, blind spot mirrors, and the luxury of the fordpass app. I love that I have Wi-Fi capabilities as well and the ability to download apps such as Pandora.

Amazing car, that drives great!
My car is awesome! I love the way it drives, very smooth and very comfortable! I wish everybody could have my car and experience the drive! The only thing I wish my car had is heated seats and a moon roof but other than that it is perfect! I am sad they are not making fusions after 2020 because I really enjoy them!

I loved my first fusion so much I came back for another!
This is my 2nd fusion. I love the way it handles, and it has enough get up and go it is hard to believe it is a 4 cylinder. I am comfortable getting in and out even with a bad knee. Plenty of space in the trunk, and roomy for riders to be comfortable. The navigation system works well and I like ability to adjust settings from the steering wheel.

Retired drive less than 5000 minutes year
I don't like the steering problems I am having even after it way "corrected". The steering wheel does not lock in place when in park. And there is front end problems which can't seem to be corrected. I did not know of the steering problem recall until I had car towed to dealer, tbe problem "corrected" car has not been right since. The dealer called to tell me my car was on the recall list and there would be no charge, BUT they suhgested a break charge which cost over $800.00. If I know what I know now i would have traded car in. Problems started as a I paid for car. Will not be purchasing another Ford.

Would not recommend - terrible performance.
Transmission slips after about 5,000 miles; constantly needing software updates, not ideal for families, radio glitches, USB port intermittently works, pre collision assist is overly sensitive, auto high beams are terrible, turn on and off whenever they want to.

New ford car purchased before the pandemic.
I haven't had the car very long considering it is a 2020 model year. And then after the coronavirus hit, it is been parked in the driveway for 3 months without moving. But in the short 1 month I had the car and was driving it, I have not experienced any problems at all worth reporting. The car only has 1100 miles in it so it is hard to say a problem when it does not have a problem.

2020 fusion: my opinion of it.
It is reliable. The interior has deteriorated over the past few models. The keyless entry is cumbersome: the remote start is from a phone app, but it takes a longer time than from the older key start. The exterior is stylish, and the dark gray I chose is very nice.
accountCircle Melissa R
Ford fusion family friendly and very easy-going.
There are a number of features that make the car very driver friendly, however the extra can be annoying at times. Easy riding and comfortable for a family of five. Large trunk space. The ford app makes it very easy to keep track of vehicle maintenance and to open up the vehicle if you lock your keys in the car.

Ford fusion a must get for a car person.
I really do love my car but would rather have a pick up truck. Just more suitable for me. Anyways the fusion is a nice midsize car with plenty of room. Easy handling, has most options like touch screen and driver notifications on mirrors. I would recommend this type of car to a car type person.

Rides awesome MPG HORRIBLE
Its It's almost mid November and I bought my 2020 Fusion SE in the first week of September. Now I drive alot. My car when I bought it had 4,800 miles and now in 3 months has 12,000. The one thing I have has problems with is the tire pressure keeps seeping out no matter what the weather or how it's driven. Things I dont like about the car are the auto kill that you can't turn it off off. Just for this cranked driving session. ( WISH I COULD BYPASS THIS CRUD) I live in a big city when the light turns we like to move it around here not have to wait on the 2 second delay for it to crank and move . And then my gas mileage is so bad..... No Matter how, when or what I do differently, and I've tried all I could think of , I can't get my gas mileage mpg above 25.7-25.9 and that was straight hwy miles going across state and in good traffic situations at that . Now city MPG is SOO BAD I'm not sure why but the "sport" option turned on in the city bumper to bumper stop and go type traffic. Sport on I get maybe 22.8 with it off and normal driving it get maybe 19mpg seriously. Any help or advice let me know I'm willing to try what all I can to save money. I drive way to much for this type of problem

What Do Critics Say About the Ford Fusion?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Ford Fusion is a breath of fresh air with better styling than the competition and high owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Fusion at 4.6/5, praising the quiet interior, but doesn’t like the frustrating stereo system.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the 2020 Fusion a 4.4/5, enjoying the responsive handling for a sedan, but owners don’t like the relatively weak engines.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Ford Fusion Have?

Common problems with the 2020 Ford Fusion include excessive battery drain, the transmission changing gears slowly, along with the paint on the hood fading quickly. Overall, these problems are similar to a lot of other midsize sedans, leading to average repair costs as the Fusion ages.

Excessive battery drain is the most widespread complaint from 2020 Fusion owners in the first 10,000 miles. There are a lot of electrical accessories in the sedan which sometimes draw power when the car is off. Diagnosing the source of the electrical draw costs around $50, while fixing it can range from $10 to $300, depending on the source of the problem.

The transmission changing gears slowly is another issue reported by owners at around 5,000 miles. There are transmission software updates which improve the responsiveness of the gear changes. Most dealerships will install these updates for free, while some charge around $50.

Paint on the hood fading quickly also shows up on some Ford Fusion models at around 20,000 miles. When paint is left in direct sunlight and not properly cared for, it will lead to fading. In some cases, having the hood properly polished and protected can fix it for around $150. There are other cases where the hood will need to be repainted, costing over $1,000.

There are no recalls on the 2020 Ford Fusion, which is better than many other midsize sedans. Having no recalls just means that none of the issues are widespread enough or affect the safety of the car.

How Long Will the 2020 Ford Fusion Last?

A well-maintained 2020 Ford Fusion can last around 250,000 miles, which is around 50,000 less than the long-lasting Toyota Camry. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other midsize sedans, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $485 per year.

As a used 2020 Ford Fusion reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the power steering hose for $400, a fuel filter costing $150, along with the windshield wiper motor which costs around $300.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is okay in the 2020 Ford Fusion with a standard 4.2-inch center screen with Bluetooth connectivity. Optional upgrades include a better 8-inch touchscreen with Ford’s Sync 3 software along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Safety technology is great for a midsize sedan offering standard driver assistance features including:

  • Rearview camera
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Forward collision warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Ford’s MyKey
  • Forward automatic emergency braking
  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers

Optional upgrades include:

  • Rear parking sensors
  • Stop-and-go adaptive cruise control

Is the 2020 Ford Fusion a Good Value?

Yes, the 2020 Ford Fusion is a good value since it’s less expensive than other sedans while offering a nice interior. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $18,800 to $30,098, making it cheaper than a Honda Accord or Subaru Legacy. When new, the price range was $23,170 to $36,450. Depreciation is faster compared to other sedans, losing around 15% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Ford Fusion?

There are four models of the 2020 Ford Fusion offered, from the base S, all the way through to the more luxurious Titanium. The Fusion is also offered with standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive.

S is the entry-level model with:

  • Cloth Seats

What Engines Come In the Ford Fusion?

  • The base engine is a weak 2.5L 4-cylinder which makes 175 horsepower while getting up to 24 MPG. All engines come with a six-speed automatic transmission.
  • An available upgrade is the more efficient 1.5L 4-cylinder, which produces 181 horsepower while getting great gas mileage at up to 27 MPG.
  • The flagship engine is the powerful 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder which generates 245 horsepower and gets up to 25 MPG. Performance is good, taking 7 seconds to go from 0-60 MPH.

What Colors Does the Ford Fusion Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Ford Fusion?

The 2020 Ford Fusion is a comfortable midsize sedan with a well-designed interior that can accommodate both the driver and passengers. Its front seats are generally supportive and comfortable, with available leather upholstery and a power-adjustable driver’s seat on some trims to add to the comfort level.

The rear seats are also spacious, providing plenty of legroom and headroom for adult passengers. The Fusion’s suspension system does a good job of smoothing out bumps and rough roads, resulting in a comfortable ride, while the cabin is well-insulated to keep noise from the road and wind to a minimum.

How Much Storage Space Does the Ford Fusion Have?

In terms of cargo space, the 2020 Ford Fusion offers 16 cubic feet of trunk space, which is fairly average for a midsize sedan with enough room for several suitcases or golf clubs. For smaller items, the Fusion offers a center console with storage, as well as door pockets and cup holders for additional storage options.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The second generation of the Ford Fusion came out for the 2013 model year, and was discontinued after 2020 when Ford shifted focus to trucks and SUVs.

2014: New 1.5L 4-cylinder engine offered, heated steering wheel & ventilated front seats.

2015: Standard rearview camera on all models, manual transmission discontinued.

2016: No changes from earlier years.

2017: Sync 3 stereo system offered, Platinum and Sport models available, small exterior styling changes.

2018: No major changes.

2019: Updated front & rear bumper designs, Co-Pilot 360 safety package available.

2020: Final model year of the Ford Fusion, Sport model not offered.

How Does the Ford Fusion Compare to the Competition?

The 2020 Ford Fusion is a very nice midsize sedan since it offers more space than many competitors while also being reasonably reliable as it ages.

The Chevy Malibu is another midsize sedan which is available for about $2,000 less. Passenger room is slightly better in the Chevy Malibu, while the Ford Fusion has lower ownership costs as it ages. We recommend the Ford Fusion since it’s a better all-around package offering more advanced features.

The Toyota Camry is a competitor available for roughly $3,500 more. Ownership costs are lower on the Toyota Camry, while the Ford Fusion offers more room in the back seats. We recommend the Toyota Camry since it’s the longest lasting midsize sedan, making it worth the extra money.

Trouble from the start
I bought a 2020 hybrid fusion it only had 8 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. Within the first month it had to be towed cause it had a bad battery then in that same month had to go to the shop cause the map was completely off had to change the pin module not once twice but 3 times so far. It makes a weird metallic noise every so often when I take it out of park but can't fix that if it'snot doing when I bring it in same with the temperature controls blanking out and can't adjust anything radio don't work has trouble connecting to my phone. That'sjust a few issues that when Itake it in Ford says there is nothing wrong with it. I think they are just doing temp fixes till the warranty runs out

It's got a lot of space making it easy to travel with 2 young kids on an 8 hour drive to my sisters. I can fit whatever I need in the trunk for the trip. The seats are comfortable. It has cruise control which my other vehicle did not have. The break assist is nice and for the long drive it's nice to use the lane assist. I love it.

Transmission troubles with the ford fusion.
My family has had the car for less than a year and the transmission has started skipping. The part that skips is right before the brake, so when braking, there's a little stutter-stop before the actual slowing down commences. This is annoying because the car is relatively new, and so should not have this problem. Other than that, it is a great car and drives quite smoothly.

Ford fusion is a great gas saving vehicle!
I bought a 2020 ford fusion in July 2020. I previously owned a 2010 ford f-150. I have thoroughly enjoyed the fusion, especially the savings on the gas mileage. The added standard features have been quite surprising when compared to my 2010 ford f-150. The most exciting to me is the intelligent cruise control that maintains distance between the vehicle in front of you. This is definitely my favorite feature on the car.

Awesome stock wheels on my 2020 ford fusion!
The power on my 2020 ford fusion is great for me because when I originally bought it I didn't think it had the power it did so that was a nice surprise. Interior is nice and it is also very spacious. The transmission has been good but not great shifts slowly and hard.

Great for traveling and I get really good gas mileage on the expressway.
I love my vehicle especially the way it rides. I get good gas mileage I love the side windows where they give you the signal when a car is next to you. It is very comfortable to travel in. The seats recline at a perfect angle and are great for sleeping while you are traveling. I love the gas saving feature when you are stopped. I also chose this because I like the shape of the car in the style. It looks so sleek.

Very reliable, high functioning vehicle with minor flaws.
The comfortability of the fusion is great. There is a lot of a space inside for a compact car. The seats in these are not heating and cooling, which is disappointing. I am in love with the appearance and function of the car. It has a sporty look which gives it an edge. The main flaw for me is that there is no blind spot recognition. My previous vehicle, which was older, notified me if cars were in my blind spot and alerted me when I was close to other vehicles. This vehicle lacks that feature. However, the rest of the safety technology is very advanced. There is a very clear back up camera and a system that keeps you in the driving lanes/prevents you from drifting. Also, there is a cruise control feature that allows you to follow the car in front of you without using the pedals. It is an automated system that is perfect for long trips. Overall, I am very pleased with this car and would recommend it to others!

Such a great all around car for you and your family!
The car drives very smooth and comes with a multitude of driving assistance features such as auto lane alignment, eco mode, and auto lane adjustment for when operating cruise control you may select how far you would like your vehicle to follow the vehicles in-front of you.

Blue ford fusion se for year 2020.
Lots of options and great colors to choose from. I added leather seats which makes it easy to clean. It has driver alert. Safety measures. Assisted cruise control. Navigation system. Ford pass where you can lock and unlock your car and also start it from your iPhone.

The 2020 ford fusion se fits a family of 4 comfortably!
I absolutely love the get up and go this sedan has! I have a 2 and 4 year old both boys in car seats, they have to set on the driver and passenger sides with hardly any room in the middle seat for an extremely small object or person to fit. The trunk of the car absolutely exceeded my expectations because it is huge! I can do a shopping for a family of 4 to do up to 2-3 weeks and it’ll all fit in the trunk. The gas mileage is amazing I get between 25.9-32 miles a gallon depending on how much of a lead foot I have. I traded my 2012 GMC Acadia Denali for this car and it was by far the best decision ever! I would do it all over again.

Make it simple please. This creates distracted driving.
Very comfortable, good gas mileage and easy to drive but trunk is noisy. Do not care for the steering wheel controls. They are too deep a level and I can never find what I am looking for. It is distracting as I look for information I cannot find, and cannot get out of it when I am there.

Nice car I like and would recommend it to anyone looking for a new car.
Very high tech drives nice and smooth. Very reliable and comfortable, back up camera. Touch screen can get confusing and the voice command can be a little tricky. Very good on gas and warns you when your not driving straight, has warning lights on the side to let you know there is a car next to you. I like the car its spacey in the back.

I love my 2020 ford fusion! Why I recommend it to anyone looking for a new car.
I love my new car! It drives smoothly and it is very roomy. I think it is great that you can start your car from your phone and also lock it or unlock it. This is nice because you do not have to worry about locking your keys in the car or carrying them around with you when you are out and about. Another reason why I love the fusion is because it has the backup camera. This is a must. A great feature that I use daily is the side mirror blind spot detection, when there is a car in your blind spot a light goes off to let you know that there is a car and you should not pass. Overall I love my car, I actually had the 2007 ford fusion prior to buying the 2020. It is reliable, and had developed into a sophisticated and stylish car that I can rely on. Cannot wait to drive to Florida this spring in my fusion!

2020 ford fusion new safety features to keep drivers safe during collisions.
So far, I am loving my new 2020 ford fusion. I love the sleek style and sporty style of the vehicle. It is roomy and has a lot of trunk space. One cool feature the vehicle has, is saving the driver money on gas. Every time you stop at a stop light/sign, the car shuts off to help save on gas. Another cool feature is starting the vehicle from the ford app on my smartphone.

Awesome driving HORRIBLE MPG

2020 ford fusion review car #3.
In the last year and a half I have gotten 3 cars. Just a few months ago I purchased a brand new 2020 ford fusion. I have lots of room for my kids (ages 3/4) in the back lots of legroom in the front and the trunk is extremely big. The trunk is so big that we as a family went to a drive in movie and comfortable lays in the trunk. Another thing that I was looking for was ford pass which this car come with. Ford pass is very convenient to have now that the winter is coming. I am able to start my car from my phone and even schedule a time for my car to start every day. The only thing that I was not very excited about was the display. It was a downgrade for me but I heard that it is an easy fix. Plus I still have my back up camera.

The ford fusion is a great car.
A ford fusion is the best because it is such an easy car to drive and really curves the road nicely. It is also good on gas and has a great interior along with exterior design that is modern and up to date with its competition. I would recommend this car to a lot of first time buyers.

Best decision of 2020, buying a ford fusion.
My 2020 ford fusion has been the best decision I have made all year. I have had it for 4 months and have put a little over 3000 miles on it. I was able to drive 5 hours straight before needing to pump gas and my lane detection was a great feature that helped with drowsiness behind the wheel. It is a great car for a great price and I would definitely recommend it to everyone that I know.

Greta car for upcoming driver and styles for the new car vibe.
This car is a great car especially for new driver that are not comfortable driving yet. The fixtures are great and the technology is outstanding. Has great gas mileage and the spacing inside the car is great. I have had the car for like a couple of months have yet to find a problem with it. Great trunk spaces and the safety features are great like the blind spot on the mirrors.
