Alex Showalter
Nov 30, 2022

The 2018 Ford Fusion lasts around 250,000 miles with some coolant and wiring issues mentioned by owners. At $16,075 to $24,625, it’s a decent value for a midsize sedan which offers an upscale cabin and great safety technology.

likeFilled The Good
Interior materials are luxurious, the cabin is very quiet and the optional all-wheel drive is great in the snow.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Advanced safety features are only available on expensive models, the base engine is slow and the standard stereo system is hard to use.

  • Overall Rating 8/10 – 2018 is a great year for the Ford Fusion since it offers a nice mix of luxury & technology for the money, giving it a high overall score. Owner reviews praise the spacious interior, sporty V6 engine, as well as the upgraded stereo system.

Everything most luxury cars have.
No complaints. Comfortable, great gas mileage. Has everything I need. Leather adjustable, heated seats. Sirius radio. Great for road trips. Can plug into regular outlet and charge overnight.

Powerful little engine. Picks up quick.
Very well priced for great sporty car. Nice rims, very reliable, love the interior material very easy to clean. Very spacious trunk. Has really nice torch for small engine sounds nice taking off. Shaped nicely feels like it hugs the street when driving fast ie expressway.

I love the outside of my car. It is sporty but not a sports car.
I love my car. It is so spacious and good gas mileage. It is silver. I have a baby and fiancé and it is perfect for us three to travel. I definitely recommend anyone who wants a little sporty car to look into one. The seats are soft. Rides smooth. Not expensive either.

My fusion and it is awesomeness.
I love my fusion! The turn knob style shift was a big adjustment at first but I have gotten use to it now and love that if you are in drive and open the driver door, it automatically switches to park. I also love that my fusion came with matching rims. The only complaint I can honestly say that I have is the sync connection sometimes glitches and also I'd like to be able to have my phone plugged in to charge and the radio still be able connect to someone else's phone at the same time.

Best Car for the Money You will be surprised at the quality workmanship and the fine ride.
I love my 2018 Ford Fusion. I live in the "Motor City" where our roads are crumbling separating at the seams and have large potholes. My Fusion rides smoothly over the mess. It is roomy inside with a nice amount of legroom in the front and back. My Ford Fusion gives me a quiet ride. It also has a back camera for when I back out. It is like a Cadillac, but at a Ford price

My 2018 ford fusion has been a reliable car with great fuel mileage.
I have had my 2018 ford fusion for two years. I have had no problems with it whatsoever. It is very reliable, it has not failed me at all. It is pretty roomy for a sedan I have two car seats in the back seat and still have enough room to put my seat back. The trunk is also spacious. I fit my kids stroller and my basketball gear with ease. The gear shift is also pretty snazzy, different than most cars it has like a dial that you twist to switch gears. The audio system is pretty good also. Fuel mileage is very affordable, my tank fills with just twenty dollars and I am good for the whole week. It has Bluetooth so you can sync your phone and listen to music, podcasts or stories for those long drives.

Bad engines everywhere.....and Ford knows it.
I have a 2018 Ford Fusion that has 69,000 miles on it. I am in sales, so I drive a lot. I have taken my car in for every single tune-up and oil change it needed, and on time to the Ford dealership I purchased it from. I found out last week the car needs a NEW ENGINE! AND - GET THIS - MY SISTER HAS A 2019 FORD FUSION AND HER CAR IS IN THE SHOP FOR A NEW ENGINE TOO! She is also in sales, and luckily for her she falls just under the 60,000 mile Powertrane warranty, which I do not. I was told by the men I am working with at the dealership that Ford knows they have a problem with their engines, and they have been for a while. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR. It may drive well, great fuel effeciency, and look good, but the engine is a LEMON. WALK AWAY.

Non reliable on gas so that means that I have to consistently keep going to the gas station to fill up when I can just get a Honda civic and spend a quarter of the money I spend on this model. I would like to get into something that is more comfortable and more eco friendly to my pockets.

Not my favorite, has acceleration issues.
Overall the car is not my favorite. If comparing to the focus, I much prefer the focus to the fusion. Like many of ford's vehicles, it has transmission issues and does not accelerate well. It is gets pretty good gas mileage, but still not as good as the focus.

What Do Critics Say About the Ford Fusion?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2018 Ford Fusion offers a fun driving experience similar to European sedans, with average owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Fusion at 3.8/5, praising the very quiet interior cabin, but doesn’t like the weak base engine.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Fusion a 4.4/5, enjoying all of the standard technology, but owners don’t like the cheaper entry-level interior.

What Common Problems Does the 2018 Ford Fusion Have?

Common problems found on the 2018 Ford Fusion include coolant leaks, damage to the wiring harness by rodents, as well as bubbling paint. Overall, these problems are similar to other midsize sedans, although the repair costs are slightly more expensive than the competition.

Coolant leaks show up on some 2018 Ford Fusion models at around 85,000 miles. There are gaskets which fail in the 2.0L engine, allowing coolant to leak. Ford has issued a technical service bulletin for the problem, and many of the repairs have been covered under warranty. If Ford will not cover the issue under warranty, it’s around $1,300.

Damages to the wiring harness by rodents have also been mentioned by Fusion owners in the first 30,000 miles. Ford uses a soy-based wiring harness in the Fusion, which attracts rodents in some cases. There are strobe lights available which deter rodents from entering the engine compartment and are available for under $50. If the wiring gets damaged it’s about $1,000 to replace.

Bubbling paint, particularly around the lower rocker panels, shows up on some Fusion models at around 25,000 miles as well. In areas where the roads are salted, the salt corrodes the paint, leading to bubbling. The only way to fix the problem is repainting affected areas, at a cost of around $850 per panel.

There’s only one recall on the 2018 Ford Fusion, which is better than other midsize sedans its age. The recall covers the steering wheel detaching. Ford will replace the bolt holding the steering wheel for free on affected models.

How Long Will the 2018 Ford Fusion Last?

A well-maintained 2018 Ford Fusion can last around 250,000 miles, which is about 50,000 miles less than the top-rated Toyota Camry. Regular annual maintenance costs are more expensive than the competition, according to data from Repair Pal, at $552 per year.

As a 2018 Ford Fusion ages, reaching 100,000 miles, owners should be prepared to replace the alternator for $650, brake hoses costing $150, as well as the camshaft position sensor, which costs around $110.

We have never had any problems with this vehicle. The only thing is cosmetic due to a limb falling and knocking off the passenger side mirror.

accountCircle Karolyn C

I have had the car for a year, I have followed the maintenance suggestions and have had no problems with the car.

accountCircle Jaden E

Yes! No problems which I cannot believe. I had a Kia optima before and it was always in the shop. I have never had to take my fusion to the mechanic.

accountCircle Logan F

I have not run into any problems. It has the occasional stutter but that is all I have noticed with this make of the car.

accountCircle Laura E

I have not had any problems with the Ford Fusion as long as I have leased it. Never has caused a problem for me.

accountCircle Lynn T

Yes it is reliable. There have not been any mechanical issues. I do take care of it and get the oil changed regularly every 5000 miles

accountCircle Jam M

Yes the 2018 Ford Fusion is reliable. I have been driving since October and there have been no issues. I maintain my vehicle properly.

accountCircle Mary L

Not one single problem and we do follow Ford's service plan so even if a problem existed they will fix

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment is okay in the base 2018 Ford Fusion models and standard equipment includes a 4.2-inch touchscreen. There’s a larger 8-inch touchscreen with the Sync 3 software available with the technology package which also includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Standard safety equipment includes a rearview camera. Optional upgrades include parking sensors, hands-free park assist, rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, automatic high-beams, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, as well as adaptive cruise control.

Is the 2018 Ford Fusion a Good Value?

Yes, the 2018 Ford Fusion is a good value since it’s cheaper than many other midsize cars, while also offering good reliability. Blue book fair market prices range from $16,175 to $24,725, making it less expensive than a Honda Accord or Subaru Legacy. When new, the price range was $22,215 to $38,990. Depreciation is similar to other sedans, losing 10% of its current value per year.

  • Found on the sport model is the strong 2.7L turbocharged V6 which makes 325 horsepower while getting 20 MPG. Performance is great, taking only 5.3 seconds to go from 0-60 MPH.

What Colors Does the Ford Fusion Come In?

The 2018 Ford Fusion is a very comfortable midsize sedan offering seating for up to five passengers. Seating is high-quality, offering supportive cushions paired with nice materials for the price.

Passenger room is good throughout the roomy interior with plenty of space for taller adults in the rear seats.

How Much Storage Space Does the Ford Fusion Have?

VehicleHistory Image

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The second generation of the Ford Fusion came out in 2013, and was discontinued after 2020 due to a restructuring by Ford to reduce the number of sedans they make.

2014: New 1.5L 4-cylinder engine option, heated steering wheel, and ventilated front seats.

2015: Standard rearview camera on all models, manual transmission discontinued.

2016: No major changes.

2017: New Sync 3 stereo system, minor exterior styling changes, Platinum model added, new Sport model offered.

2018: No changes from 2017.

2019: New front & rear bumpers, Co-Pilot 360 safety package added.

2020: Sport model discontinued, final model year for the Ford Fusion before it was discontinued.

How Does the Ford Fusion Compare to the Competition?

The Ford Fusion is a good midsize sedan for 2018 since it offers a lot of comfort and technology for the money, although ownership costs are higher than the competition.

The Nissan Altima is another midsize sedan which is available in the same price range. Steering is a bit sportier in the Nissan Altima, while the Ford Fusion has more passenger room. We recommend the Ford Fusion since there are fewer issues reported, although both offer similar overall quality for 2018.

The Chevy Malibu is a competitor which costs about $1,000 less. Where the Malibu stands out is with more standard technology, while the Ford Fusion is quicker, especially with the sport model. We recommend the Ford Fusion, yet both are good choices worth checking out if you’re in the market for a midsize sedan.

2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid
I bought the vehicle new, with 6 miles on the odometer. I have owned it for 5 years, 4 months, and have put 95k miles on it. In all that time, I have never had any major issues with the vehicle. There were a few minor issues. 1) The fuel hatch does not always open. I'd say 25-30% of the time, I have to pop the trunk and pull the manual release. This is a problem that existed sincethe beginning. I brought it in and they replaced the hatch, but that did not fix the problem. The problem is minor, so I never brought it back. 2) The subs in the back don't seem to do anything as far as I can tell. You can't hear or feel them. I brought it in to ask about it and was told they were fine. The mechanic placed a piece of paper on them to show me the vibration... But if they are undetectable any other way, what's the point? 3) the infotainment screen is buggy. It'll freeze up occasionally. It'll randomly omit names from my contact list. Sometimes it acts like no phone is even there. I've tried restoring it to factory settings, and updating it... I even brought it in early on, and they were not able to make a difference. All of these are minor issues. I have not had to spend any money on maintenance other than oil changes and air filters. One of the positives, is that my brake pads are still nearly new. Since the hybrid brakes differently, I don't really use them much.

Dog-friendly and low-maintenance.
Our fusion is supremely comfortable. It is large enough for our 40lb dog to hang out in the backseat and wander from side to side. About 30k miles and no repairs needed other than regular maintenance. The turbo is small, but I can feel so much of a difference compared to my old corolla.

It's a nice vehicle on the outside but the infotainment. System is out of date. The computer in the car is starting to fail and the tire sensor is not working properly. Predictable and comfortable.
The 2018 ford fusion hybrid takes a lot of the guesswork out of buying a hybrid car. This mid-sized sedan hybrid variant is quite similar to the gas-only fusion and offers many of the same safety and technological features. Therefore, it really has a sedan feel. Despite a few drawbacks, the fusion hybrid is nothing short of predictable and comfortable. The interior looks way more upscale than what you might expect to find on a mid-sized sedan hybrid variant. The platinum trim's interior is especially gorgeous with its leather upholstery and leather covers along the dash. The stitching looks absolutely flawless. There are some drawbacks as well, steering on the 2018 ford fusion hybrid feels very lacking. There is not much feedback from the vehicle to the driver, and the steering feels way too light regardless of what speed you are driving. Drivers will have to do a lot of guesswork to know how the tires are performing.

Great traveling car (hybrid benefits).
I have had my ford fusion for 2 years now, it is a company car so I do not own/lease technically however it is my personal car while I work for my company. With that being said, this car gets great gas mileage. I travel all across Texas and from state to state at times and have noticed the tank takes about 12 gal of fuel which will drive you up to about 530 miles tops (varies each time). I enjoy the Bluetooth radio features, rear camera views while trying to reverse park, smooth ride, push to start function, dual a/c controls and hybrid function (this car is electric and gas driven). You do not have to charge the battery, just fill up tank with gas like regular cars. Unfortunately the downfall of the car is the battery for the hybrid function eats up a lot of trunk space! There is a hump in the trunk so big luggage or bulky items are a pain to fit in the trunk! Overall this is a great car and I wouldn’t mind actually owning one myself.

Very sleek looking, and drives like a charm. It is super smooth, and is not loud at all. Another plus is that it is very good with gas mileage! It is also pretty fast even though it is not a sports car. It also has a huge reverse camera, which I love! The sensors are a lifesaver because it ensures I will not back up into anything! The ac is strong, and keeps my car fresh year round!

I like the ford fusions because the seats allow someone who is shorter to reach the pedals. I also like that I can see my tire pressure on my screen. The only complaint I have is that when the gas tank gets very close to empty, and you only put a little bit of gas in, it still says it is empty until you have driven around for a few minutes.
The one most important thing about my car is that it has excellent connectivity and electronic features.

My perfect fusion and how I am saving money.
I have had no problems with this vehicle. I am currently in the honeymoon stage with it since I purchased it 4 months ago. It handles and runs smoothly and is great on gas and my wallet. The radio reception is also fantastic since I have siriusxm and the touch panel is a breeze to use.

This car is a pretty good car and I would recommend getting it.
It is a good car. It really drives very nice and I would recommend this car. It may not have all of the feature that I want in a car but I'drives very well. Overall I would say this is a very good car. The gas mileage is pretty good and you do not have to fill up your tank too often compared to other cars.

It's good on gas mileage on trips and really easy to drive
I like the keypad on the inside driver door in order to unlock the car. I really like he spacious trunk, but the seats are hard to find covers for.

Ford fusion. Pros and cons of the ford fusion car.
My vehicle is fun to drive and reliable. I like the adjustable seats and the safety features. This is my second fusion and the first one was a hybrid. I definitely prefer the hybrid, as this car does not get that great of mileage. Overall, I like the ford fusion brand.

It is a great commuter car.
It is a hybrid and gets great gas mileage. I love how the car handles. It is nice and spacious.

The vehicle is black, and it drives good.
I really do not have any problems out the ford fusion. The only problems I really have is the fact that it is terrible I am the snow but other than that it is a good car. If your going to purchase a ford fusion make sure you have a truck or another good snow vehicle put up for the winter time.

It takes me places quickly and reliably.
I don't really have many problems with my car, the tire does lose pressure easily, it uses a lot of gas and it can get foggy easily. Other than those issues, my car is pretty reliable and comfortable. It has a lot of space for people and extra luggage. It heats or cools off fast.

The reverse camera is extremely helpful when backing out of busy places.
My car is a ford fusion. The brakes are better than any car I've driven. The reverse camera is a great touch and the Bluetooth makes it fun and easy to play my music. It's not built the best but it is an okay car. The metal is thin and while barely hitting a call box it completely dented my car.

Ford fusion provides the whole package.
I have had no issues or recalls so far. Seats are super comfortable. I like that you can save settings for 2 different drivers and it will automatically move your seats and mirrors where you need them. The trunk is roomy. Dual temp controls are great. Back up camera is helpful too.

It being all black with chrome and that it looks sporty.
I love it because it drive really smooth and it has the luxury without the high price. I love the heated seat, and all the room it too. It looks really sporty too. I wouldn't trade my car because it is the car I have always been looking for. It is all black with chrome which makes it look even more sharp. It have nickel chrome rims and I put on chrome rain guards.

s**y, styling, smooth driving 2018 ford fusion.
I love the style of the car, the shape and sleekness. I love the way the car drives. It corners well and is very smooth. The mpg has not been as good as I hoped it would be driving around town mostly. There were some glitches with the 2016 model of the same car that we had prior, but they've been fixed in the 2018 version. I have enjoyed the car for the 2+ years we've had it and would definitely buy again.

4 door, 4 cylinder, family car.
The ford fusion is a great car for an average person to get around. It is got plenty of space, great gas mileage, and it is pretty quick. It is not the nicest thing out there but it definitely looks more than what it is worth. I love my fusion and I know ford definitely killed it on the new design of them.

Ford fusion with the best gas mileage.
I really like this vehicle the gas mileage is very good and the review camera is so clear. I really enjoy this vehicle and would consider getting the same style just a newer year. I think the comfort of the seats is very good and it is spacious but not too big for a small car.

Ford fusion 2018- the best experience I have had!
This car is easy to drive and very comfortable. One thing I really appreciate about it is that it lets me know when there is something going on with it, like a tire is low on air and you can check the tire pressure of it. Also, I love the sync and how it automatically connects to my phone and also how it stops any music playing when I make a call or get a call.

Second fusion I have owned. Great car!
Only issue I have had so far is a clogged sunroof drain which led to a leak when it rained. It dropped from the buttons that turn on the overhead lights. Gas mileage is good. Car interior is roomy as is the trunk. I'd definitely buy this exact car again. This is my second fusion. It is a great reliable car.

2018 Ford Fusion is a great family friendly car.
The 2018 Ford Fusion is very comfortable on long drives. The back seat has plenty of room for 2 car seats and gives the driver and front passenger plenty of legroom. It gets good gas mileage both city and highway. We have enjoyed using it as our primary family car. We would highly consider getting another Ford Fusion in the future as either a family car or a car for our daughter.

Great reliable comfortable car.
I have only had my car 3 weeks. It drives very smoothly. It is quiet. I love the room it has, the buttons on the steering wheel are very beneficial. It gets great gas mileage for a full size car. It is reliable. It is comfortable. The auto start stop is great to help the environment. The twist knob shifter took time to get used to but it is fun to have.

My ford fusion ranks as my best car purchase in my. Lifetime.
Use key or door code for entrance. Super comfortable. Large storage compartment(rear seats can be folded down to increase storage space. Has many safety features including front & rear cameras. I do not have any problems to date. I am very pleased with my new car purchase.

Great overall vehicle, can handle it all
It's a great overall vehicle. It's got good gas mileage, looks good inside and out. Haven't had any big problems in the one year I've owned it. It handles well, remember it being touchy on the gas when I first got it(not a bad thing), and the brakes do a good job doing quick stops. The computer system and all the visuals are really nice too, gives a lot of good information

No complaints about this vehicle!
Something really cool about my vehicle is the key has a light that lets you know when the car is turned on when using remote start. It is a smooth ride and it is good on gas as well. It is really spacious and comfortable. I have had no issues with it, it is very reliable.
