2010 Ford Mustang Review: Powerful & Dependable All-American Sports Car

Alex Showalter
Aug 23, 2022

The 2010 Ford Mustang lasts around 200,000 miles with only some minor hood corrosion and A/C system issues. At $9,499 to $28,830, it’s a decent value for a fun and responsive sports car.

VehicleHistory Image
likeFilled The Good
Performance is great from the V8 engine, the SYNC stereo system works well and the steering is more responsive than older Mustang models.
dislikeFilled The Bad
There’s limited passenger room in the back seats, the V6 engine is not very strong and fuel costs are high.

Is the 2010 Ford Mustang a Good Used Car?

  • Yes, 2010 is a good year for the Mustang. Owner reviews praise the performance, handling, and good build quality.
  • Interior quality is similar to other American sports cars, with the highest end models having nice seats and the stereo system is easy to use.
  • Reliability ratings are good for a sports car. We recommend models from 20072014 with more engine problems in the 2015.
  • Performance is acceptable from the V6 engine, but both of the available V8 engines offer excellent power.
  • The Mustang is very safe for a sports car, getting a perfect 5-star rating across the board in all of the government crash tests.
  • Fuel economy is average at around 21 MPG, which should get owners about 330 miles of range out of the 16 gallon gas tank.

I absolutely love the way it looks, I love how it rides, and how I feel behind the wheel
You will love how you feel when you get behind the wheel

2010 mustang, a solid and reliable iteration of the s197 model.
Very comfortable, decent gas mileage, lots of features. Good performance for the money and very reliance considering its age. Very stylish exterior and lots of features inside. Premium sound system and Bluetooth. Power locks and windows, and responsive engine.

It is so much fun to drive.
I love that it is a convertible. It handles well and has great power. It does have blind spots, and you have to get used to that and compensate. I wish it had better gas mileage.

Fun, fast, convertible sports car.
This is a fast sports car. It is also a convertible top. It'll go 0 to 60 with a quickness. It is a fun car to have. It is known as a muscle car. The only downside is it is bad on gas unless you get premium gas put in it. It is a fun car to ride in with the top down when its nice out.
accountCircle Jerryn P
This is a rear wheel drive vehicle and have a very light back end. In certain weather conditions, this can be problematic.
All I can really say is I absolutely love this car. I've owned it for about 4 years now and cannot imagine myself driving anything else. I love the way the vehicle responds and handles. It also is comfortable to ride in.

I love how I can make as many customizations to my mustang without any problems!
I love my mustang! I have not had any problems with it and it is a good fit for me and my significant other. The reliability is great considering I haven't had any problems. My favorite feature is the color changing lights inside of the cup holders and dashboard at night.

If you like to go fast then this is the car for you.
My 2010 Ford Mustang GT is a very reliable car. I have owned the car for about four years or so now and I haven't had any troubles with it. This car is clean, comfortable, and fast. This specific car includes black leather interior, color changing lights for the interior lights including the color behind the speedometer, the center console, and floorboard lighting.

I enjoy driving my 2010 roush mustang.
Love the car, sounds great only issue I have with it is occasionally the radio will stop working and I will have to disconnect the battery terminal. Overall would recommend this car to almost anyone, it has been a great car for everyday driving as well as a fun car to drive fast.

Nice looking, but a turkey!
Bought it for my daughter. Great shape, and ride. Then the problems began. With 105k miles, we're 2nd owner, (1) plastic thermostat housing failed, needed tow, (2) main computer failed ($2000), (3) leaks on the passenger side front seat onto the floor boards (design flaw by Ford NEVER fixed by corporate), (4) engine head gasket leaking anti-freeze ($2500). All of this in the first 18 months of ownership. Plan on trading it in for half what we paid for it, and buying a Nissan which I've owned 5 new ones, and never say a tow truck! This car reminds me of the Fiero GT I rid myself of, then converted to buying Nissan since 1996.
accountCircle Briana P
I like that it's interior and exterior are a great color combo! I love that it's an convertible. I dislike that it has a computer system issue that no one can seem to fix.
Pay attention to your PCM. Other than that, great vehicle.
accountCircle Robin T
It's hard to check your blind spots out of the windows. This presents a safety hazard.
I like this Mustang because it's a stick shift... That's about its only redeeming quality. I hate how low it sits. I hate the way the windows make it impossible for me to check my blind spots. And it only gets like 22 miles to the gallon. And the seat belts are ALWAYS getting stuck.
accountCircle Nicole B
It is fast and does not handle well on wet surfaces.
The speed and style are great. The gas mileage is not so good. I love the handling. The stereo makes my commute less of a hassle.
accountCircle Corie E
Leaking issues in the trunk. Previous Mustang also had leaking issues but it was located inside the passenger area.
Currently having trouble with a leak in the trunk. I sold my previous Mustang as it had leaking troubles too. My mustang is normally reliable and performs well. I do not drive very often, but when I do, dependability is very important.

Used 2010 ford mustang gt.
It is a used vehicle so it comes with a few needed repairs. There’s an airbag recall. Seats could be more comfortable. The steering wheel shakes when driving on the highway over 60 mph but again it is a used vehicle so repairs are expected. Not the best on gas.
accountCircle Alex E
It is very reliable and a fun car for the price. I would recommend it.
Its very reliable, looks good, hasn't had man mechanical problems. The gas mileage could be better.
accountCircle Colton C
Great car, but its kinda cheap and problematic.
Great vehicle, but very short lived. Beautiful car and I love it to death, but as it gets older the problems continue to pop up. There are also some issues with cheap parts.

What Do Critics Say About the Ford Mustang?

  • Consumer Reports says the Mustang has more refined handling than older models, and has above-average owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds gives the mustang a 4.9/5 praising the V8 engine found in the GT model, but doesn’t like the high fuel costs.
  • Kelley Blue Book users rate the Mustang 4.7/5 and enjoy the sporty suspension, but owners don’t like that it’s more expensive than some rivals.

What Common Problems Does the 2010 Ford Mustang Have?

The most common problems found on the 2010 Ford Mustang include corrosion on the hood, failure to shift out of park, and A/C system problems. Overall, these problems are relatively minor compared to other sports cars on the market from 2010.

Corrosion on the hood is the most widespread issue reported by owners at about 50,000 miles. Paint that is not properly cared for will start to corrode and peel off as the vehicle ages. Repainting the hood is the only way to fix the problem, and it costs about $1,200.

Failing to shift out of park is another complaint from owners at around 25,000 miles. The linkage from the gear shifter to the transmission is the source of the problem, and in some cases it doesn’t unlock properly. Fixing the linkage is a fairly easy task, and costs about $150 in labor.

A/C system issues show up on some Mustang models at around 35,000 miles. The blower motor is the source of the problem and the bearings wear out in some models. Replacing the blower motor costs about $600, depending on local labor rates.

There are 6 recalls, similar to other sports cars from 2010. All of the recalls cover the airbags in the car, and are not much of a concern once they have been changed out with new ones.

How Long Will the 2010 Ford Mustang Last?

A well-maintained 2010 Ford Mustang can last around 200,000 miles, which is comparable to other sports cars like the Nissan 370z. Regular annual maintenance costs are reasonable for a performance car as well, at $595 per year, according to Repair Pal.

Since most 2010 Mustang models will have over 100,000 miles, prospective buyers should be prepared to replace items including the radiator hose for $435, windshield washer pump costing $125, and the EGR valve which costs $300.

accountCircle anne k

Yes it is very reliable. It has had no major problems and really no minor problems either. It just has typical wear and tear and the like.

accountCircle Brandon G

It is reliable. I bought mine used though so I had to get the engine replaced. Big I think it defects before I bought it. But I have no problems since then.

accountCircle Angie N

I wouldn't really say the 2010 Ford Mustang is reliable. It costs a lot to have it repaired and it time between repairs is slim to none. It typically needs maintenance often.

accountCircle Ruth B

The transmission has gone out twice and the breaks are horrible. I have had to replace them many times. The back seat is very small and uncomfortable.

accountCircle Mary D

Yes it is reliable. Other than routine wear and tear maintenance it has had no serious issues. I take it in every 3000 miles for oil change and tires rotated and it's good to go.

accountCircle Joanne H

I have never had any major issues with the car. Only some things are made a little cheap. Nothing major.

accountCircle William H

I haven't had any issues with my Mustang. If you are someone buying a Mustang, you know it's only right to treat your car with love. They are built like tanks.

accountCircle Joseph K

Hasn't had any really big problems just a few things here and there but nothing major. Recently the ac gave out.

How Much Is the 2010 Ford Mustang Worth?

How Big Is the Ford Mustang?

The 2010 Ford Mustang is similar in size to rivals like the Chevy Corvette and Dodge Challenger. It’s offered as a 2-door coupe or convertible. Passenger room is good in the front seats, but the back seats have limited legroom and are not comfortable for longer drives.

Cargo space is average compared to other sports cars with enough room for 3-4 suitcases in the trunk of the coupe, and 2-3 in the convertible.

How Does the Ford Mustang Compare to the Competition?

The Ford Mustang is a great sports car with several engines available to appeal to buyers at different price points. It easily earns our recommendation for shoppers looking for a dependable sports car.

The Dodge Challenger is a rival costing about $500 more. Passenger room is better in the back seats of the Dodge Challenger, but the steering feel is more responsive in the Ford Mustang. We recommend the Ford Mustang since there are fewer mechanical issues reported from owners.

The Chevrolet Camaro is another competitor that’s about $500 more. The stereo system in the Chevy Camaro is a bit nicer, but the V8 Ford Mustang models are quicker than the Camaro. We recommend the Ford Mustang, but both are good choices for an American retro-styled muscle car.

Yes it sure is m- dependable, cool looking and didn't cost an arm and a leg. Easy to maintain and runs on regular gasoline.

accountCircle Brandon G

Yes I love it. I am very into sport cars and it is gas friendly. I gets very good gas mileage. And maintenance is low.

accountCircle Jessica P

Yes the 2010 mustang is a quality vehicle. It has great handling, speed, suspension, and comfortability. It's oddly spacious considering it being a coupe and very attractive in terms of appearance. The interior is well put-together with leather upholstery and Chrome accents. The entertainment head unit however leaves much to be desired. It doesn't really capture the appeal. Of modern vehicle in terms of electronics and ergonomic sophistication. There isn't really much that one can do as it pertains to customization either. It's pretty cut-and-dry; what you see is what you get with the 2010 mustang. The performance is fairly good compared to bother its predecessor and prior models.

accountCircle Ashley M

I do not like it that much. I did back then but I believe there are better cars out there. The transmission is shotty and the breaks are weak.

accountCircle Laura P

Yes it is reliable, sturdy and good looking and doesn't have any problems. Well worth the money I spent on it. I'll buy another one in the future

Great Driving Car
Recently purchased a used 2010 GT with 48000 miles. Upgraded the base steering wheel with a premium leather wheel as well as installing hood struts and front strut brace. In order to modernize the car I installed the Dynavin entertainment system with backup camera. I had the car thoroughly inspected and important fluids changed. I now have a great screen with navigation and most importantly Apple car play. The engine purrs and pulls strongly right up to redline. The suspension feels tight and the body structure is solid despite being a convertible. I really enjoy driving this car and use it as my daily driver. I bought it to keep miles off my 2019 Corvette Grand Sport and must say I don’t miss driving the Corvette in the least. Of course both cars a manual shift to enhance their enjoyment. I highly recommend the 2010 Mustang GT for its performance and reliability

This car couldn’t be better.
I’ve had my 2010 GT for 13 years , and frankly I’m afraid since it’s getting up in mileage. Many of the years it has been my only /primary car. The performance has always been exceptional and I do not look forward to driving another vehicle. Only problems I’ve had are an alternator replacement, cracked radiator and a few small hoses. I have 175,000 miles on it and still love the car!

For being an old model my car runs great and is in great shape.
I purchased my mustang this year. I currently have around 100,000 miles on the car. I have had problems with the gas pedal becoming so stiff on me. The ac still works great the car runs great I only have that one complaint which might only be happening to my vehicle.

Ideal vehicle for a younger person, or couple.
We have not experienced any major issues with this particular vehicle. Occasionally a sensor or two has gone out, but that is an easy, inexpensive fit. We do struggle with the inconvenience of it is size at times, especially when we go fishing and need to fit the rods in the car.

My 2010 ford mustang has never let me down. Now that is ten years old I have only had a few issues like my fuel pump needed replaced and I just put my second battery in it since I have owned it for 5 years. Other than that just basic oil changes and I just changed transmission fluid that needed to be done. It is a really comfortable and sporty vehicle with a lot of torque when behind the wheel. I can even fit my son in the backseat in his car seat it is reliable and fun.

I had a brand new mustang, same v6, but convertible. I had to sell as I didn't have a garage and the top leaked and I couldn't afford to get a new top. I bought this mustang used. Has about same miles on it as the one I sold, 50k. Same issues, the brakes squeak when it rains..Terrible in rain... Had to take this one is for the seat belt recall. The wipers are cheap plastic and electrical issues, same as last mustang.

Heated seats. Electric seats and windows. Glass roof.
This is my 4th mustang. I absolutely love the mustang. It is the longest and best selling muscle car ever. The gt model I have has a glass roof. The bucket seats are heated. I have lower back issues and I love how the seat just fits my back like a glove, so comfy. I drive a stick shift, 5 speed. It has a lot of power, which I love. It also has traction control for the weather conditions. I have a v8 under the hood. So it is a little heavier and does take a little longer to heat up, hence those awesome heated seats! It is actually really great on gas on a long trip. I take care of my vehicles so it is a 2010 and I have only 53,000 miles on her... Mustang sally, I named her! She's never let me sit. Will go through all the vehicle issues and it lets u know if your tires need air, oil change, etc. I love music so I am super glad it has a shaker 500 radio. 6 CD player. Mustangs are just really good vehicles if you are looking for an American made muscle car. That is why you never see a mustang in a commercial, do not need to, they cannot keep them in stock.

This has been a great car with very few problems. I am just now having to replace some things due to wear and tear but it is ten years old so it has held up very well. The only really annoying thing is the fact that the lumbar support function is broken and that is not easily replaced and I had to replace the soft top, which was expensive.

Solid car with the usual sports car problems.
My car is great overall. It is comfortable to ride in and drives well. The only downsides are the gas mileage, the trunk, and how huge the hood is. The trunk is actually pretty big but it is difficult to get stuff into it. The opening is narrow and kind of a awkward shape. The hood being so long has occasional made it difficult to park.

2010 Ford Mustang: Fast, Smooth, and Sleek.
My Mustang is very reliable. It is almost 10 years old and, with regular upkeep, have had no problems with it. The turning radius is lower than most cars, which is consistent with muscle cars, so it takes some practice parking. It is fast and drives very smoothly, so long as the road is okay. Bumps in the road are felt a little more than a standard vehicle, and it is rear-wheel-drive, so forget trying to take it out in the snow. Gas mileage is low, 15 mpg city/20 highway, and lower with the A/C on. It does take regular fuel, however, so it doesn't murder your wallet completely. The seats are very comfortable and there is a lot of room in the front. It is two door, of course, so the back is cramped. The center console is a little large, and there is no way to adjust seat height or headrest angle. The trunk is larger than expected; I have fit $200 worth of Ikea furniture in the car in addition to three people, so there is more space than it looks like. Overall, it is a very good car with no performance issues. And of course, you can customize it!

Car has been reliable so far so no complaints about that, its has all the comforts for being from 2010 and has features that are still useful to this day like Bluetooth and hands free calling. Performance is good, but honestly would buy a 2011 or newer because it has the better 5.0l engine that makes more horsepower but other than that everything else is good with the car it has good performance for the amount of money they cost and has the newer look over the 2005-2009.

The only thing I do not like is how it is not reliable in rain or snow. Everything else about (color, interior, comfort, how it runs) I love!! I got my car brand new and I am just now starting g to have to tune up a few things. But it still looks almost exactly like it did when I got it!

The best keeps on going, at 127,000 miles my mustang lives up to its reputation.
My mustang has been extremely reliable and economical. I have been thrilled that routine maintenance has been needed. The performance and handling are exceptional as you would expect in the mustang brand. The v6 engine has good acceleration and pretty good gas mileage in the city and on the highway.

It's an adventure to drive. If you're someone who not is not only considering where you have to go, but how you get there, then the Mustang is the car for you.
My first car was a Mustang, so it's a brand that I love driving. It looks good, it feels good driving it. There are some minor issues with the later models. Some of the vinyl on the door panels has peeled off from the heat. It does, of course, use more gas than other cars, but it's a sports car. I really enjoy driving it, and that's the reason why I bought it.

I have a 2010 v6 gold mustang.
I love my vehicle! It performs great and looks great! I love the sound! I have always loved mustangs and it didn't disappoint! It has lights on the inside that you can change the color of. The inside looks great. It has not had any problems with it and I have had it for 8 years.

Ford mustang v6 is an average car.
Very comfortable ride. Dependable and kind of fun to drive. You will run into problems with the car around the 130-140 thousand mark but it is usually easy fixes that does not take too much time to do. Gas is average it is not a ford focus or anything but you’d be satisfied with it.

My car is a convertible GT. It's very sporty and nice to drive.
It's a convertible! It's a comfortable ride. Doesn't get very good gas mileage.

Ford mustang a comfortable, reliable car with great features.
I love my ford mustang. It drives smoothly and is very comfortable. I have not have a lot of issues with the car in the past, normal wear and tear. Have had issues with the tire sensors going out and the cap less tank, but they were fixable. Speed is great, love the sync in the vehicle. I can make hands free calls and answer calls hands free. This is a great car.

Nice looking car, that has the power when you need it.
Great vehicle to drive around town or on the open road.

Why you should buy a mustang.
The ford mustang is one of the most popular muscle cars in history. It remains a popular choice for the folks seeking a strong dose of driving excitement. Iconic styling makes this legendary ride even more appealing. While the 2010 ford mustang brings a lot of great qualities to the table, it still may not be the best choice for everyone. The mustang is also a great car for traveling out of town. Although models equipped with the optional performance package ride a bit harsher, most drivers will not have any complaints.

Dependable muscle car with retro styling and authentic sound.
The Mustang has been economical, comfortable, and dependable. I have had no issues other than the airbag recall that affected every manufacturer.

Red riding hood fast deets.
Nice stereo, leather interior, convertible, fuel burning, fast, vinyl top, back seats get wet when raining, love it overall, silver grade gasoline, red, inconvenient when having more than one passenger because you have to move driver and passenger seats to allow back passengers in and out.

I absolutely love the way it looks, I love how it rides, and how I feel behind the wheel
You will love how you feel when you get behind the wheel

I love how I can make as many customizations to my mustang without any problems!
I love my mustang! I have not had any problems with it and it is a good fit for me and my significant other. The reliability is great considering I haven't had any problems. My favorite feature is the color changing lights inside of the cup holders and dashboard at night.

The 2010 mustang pros and cons of owning one.
The headrests are a little uncomfortable and the car cannot be driven in the winter but it is a great car in the summer. Drives very nicely and smoothly and is powerful for a v6. The price for gas is not too expensive. The back seats are small because it is a sports car but that is fine. Heated seats are very nice. Very fun to drive.

White paint + brown leather seats + mustang power = style and dependability!
I am the third owner and purchased at only 27, 000 miles. Little maintenance has been necessary--only new all season tires have installed simply due to living in the Midwest. My mustang drives smooth and the leather seats are extremely comfortable for long rides. Despite only have the v6 engine, there's plenty of power. It handles well during any weather and is dependable.

I like that it's interior and exterior are a great color combo! I love that it's an convertible. I dislike that it has a computer system issue that no one can seem to fix.
Pay attention to your PCM. Other than that, great vehicle.
