2010 Ford Taurus Review: Dependable & Long Lasting Full Size Sedan

Alex Showalter
Aug 23, 2022

The 2010 Ford Taurus lasts around 250,000 miles with only some minor transmission leaks and steering noise. At $7,047 to $8,540, it’s a good value for buyers looking for a large sedan built to haul passengers and cargo.

VehicleHistory Image
likeFilled The Good
The cabin is quieter than other sedans, the trunk offers excellent storage space and the optional all-wheel-drive system works well.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The steering feels floaty and loose, the engine is not fuel efficient in the city and entry-level models have a very basic interior.

Is the 2010 Ford Taurus a Good Used Car?

  • Yes, 2010 is a good year for the Taurus. Owner reviews praise the reliability, comfortable suspension, and user-friendly technology.
  • Interior quality is average compared to other cars in the same price range, and the stereo system is easy to use.
  • Reliability ratings are good for a sedan. We recommend avoiding older models from 20032005, and going with something from 20062016 which are all more reliable.
  • Performance is okay from the standard V6 engine, but the turbocharged motor offers more power than rivals.
  • The 2010 Taurus is very safe, earning a perfect 5-star overall rating in all government crash tests, and the only place it scored 4 stars was in rollover risk.
  • Fuel economy is similar to large sedans from 2010 at around 22 MPG, which should get owners up to 418 miles of range out of the 19 gallon tank.

The most important thing about the car is the safety.
Like the heating and cooling seats, durability, and safety. Dislike the side mirrors due to hard to see the side. No complaints on the car.

I love everything about my car from a sunroof to heated and massaging seats.
I love my car it has all leather seats a sunroof a factory installed Sonny with a 6 track CD, it has massage and heated seats, backup detection, it also has a huge trunk which is really nice, also the headlights automatically shut off if you leave them on and it also has a combination to unlock your car doors if you lock your keys inside.

My Taurus and how I feel about it.
I absolutely love my Taurus and have no negative thoughts about it. It is reliable, comfortable, sporty. It handles well. I had to replace the air conditioning system but that happened. It is a 2010 but still get comments on what a beautiful car.

My ford Taurus is the best vehicle purchase made in years.
No issues that I have found. Runs great, nice smooth comfortable ride. It has twin turbo, good gas mileage. I bought in February and it has been a excellent purchase. Would buy another in this make and model. I would recommend this ford Taurus to friends and family. Need regular maintenance like all other vehicles. Great car for being a Taurus. I am impressed.

Great on gas and overall very dependable.
The only issues I've had is some door on my ac/heat not closing and making a knocking noise which my husband was able to fix and wasn't very expensive to resolve, it has nearly 130, 000 miles. If I didn't require a bigger vehicle when I am ready to buy another I would get another Taurus.

The most amazing car ever! The interior features a great navigation system.
My car is very comfortable and reliable. Does not cost much money to put gas in it. My car features leather seats and a navigation system that I really love. The performance is excellent! Overall this car is the best that I have had so far. I highly recommend anyone to purchase it.

2010 Ford Taurus - small price, big performance.
I have owned the car for five years and have not had to have any major repairs. It is a comfortable drive for a non luxury car. I get 20 mpg. , Which is helpful in these days of high gas prices. The speakers do not work as well as I would like: I do not want to have to turn the volume all the way up in order to hear the radio.

It is a piece of junk to me, but to others, it may seem nice. I think it is a good car for someone who is just learning how to drive.
I don't like the exterior and/or interior appearance. It is not as innovative as other vehicles. There are no technological features (e.g., rear view camera) to promote safety.

It is a great back and forth to work car = no matter what it looks like or the year it is. And I will keep it until it is too costly to keep!!!
The Taurus is the car we drive to work (50 miles each way) - we bought it for our son when someone ran off the road and totaled his truck. When he got the insurance $, we took the car. It has been a really good car and we will run it into the ground - to keep our other car/truck for our retirement

Why to think twice about buying a Ford Taurus.
It is a comfortable car to ride in. It is very roomy but a lot of problems with the electronics. The rear back sensors have lots of problems, my gas cap has a problem stating shut. I have replaced it twice already. Also the air conditioner has its number of problems. Passenger side blows out hot air when it is on. I wouldn't recommend buying a Taurus.

A dependable and spacious car with great gas mileage.
Living in a state that had a long winter, I find my car handles very well in the snow and ice. I bought the car used, but in very good condition and after having it for 6 months now it has been a reliable mode of transportation to get me to and from work everyday. My commute is 45 minutes each way, but the car does very well on gas mileage. I like the space that the car has as well- it is very spacious inside. Overall I am pleased with the car and would consider buying another one similar in the future.

2010 Ford Taurus - holds up over time
The model is reliable for the most part. Had minimal problems except for the AC. Which has gone out twice. Comfortable interior. Would prefer more waterproof material on seats. Trunk space is awesome. Part of the reason I bought the car. I have the base model and don't require more than what comes with the base model.

Smooth driving from Ford.
The car performs well. The handling is simple, room inside. The car is so very nice. Anyone should buy a Ford car. The gas mileage is not as good as a Honda or Toyota, but it is better that some 'American cars. I like the exterior and interior. The car runs well and I will reiterate to anyone that it is a good car to purchase.

What Do Critics Say About the Ford Taurus?

  • Consumer Reports says the Taurus handles better than other large sedans, and has high owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds gives the Taurus a 4.5/5 praising the cargo capacity in the trunk, but doesn’t like the complicated gauges.
  • Kelley Blue Book users rate the Taurus 4.5/5 and enjoy the comfortable modern interior, but owners don’t like the overly firm suspension on the SHO.

What Common Problems Does the 2010 Ford Taurus Have?

The most common problems found on the 2010 Ford Taurus include transmission leaks, excessive noise while turning, and wheel bearing failures. Overall, these problems are not very serious and repair costs are average compared to other large sedans from 2010.

Transmission leaks are the most widespread complaint from owners, showing up at around 120,000 miles. The gaskets on the transmission start to fail as the vehicle ages and have to be replaced. Changing out the gaskets costs about $400, depending on local labor rates.

Excessive noise while turning is another problem owners report at around 25,000 miles. The source of the problem is usually the tie rods wearing out, and it seems to be a problem that happens about every 25,000 miles. Replacing the tie rods costs about $400.

Wheel bearing failures also show up on some Taurus models at around 100,000 miles. Wheel bearings wear out on most cars, and have to be replaced as they age. Changing out the bearings costs about $150 per wheel.

There are 3 recalls, better than other big sedans from 2010. The most serious recall is for the license plate lamp, which can short out and cause a fire, but once the connection has been replaced isn’t a concern. Other recalls cover air bags, and an interior door handle, which are not big issues once they’ve been repaired.

How Long Will the 2010 Ford Taurus Last?

A well-maintained 2010 Ford Taurus can last around 250,000 miles, which is over 50,000 miles better than other full size rivals including the Chrysler 300. Regular annual maintenance costs are higher than some rivals, according to Repair Pal, at $630 per year.

Since most 2010 Taurus models will have over 100,00 miles buyer should be prepared to replace items including the thermostat for $575, window regulator costing $350, and the sunroof motor which costs $450.

accountCircle Christine C

It is very reliable. I have had no issues or problems other than routine issues, normal wear and tear.

accountCircle David R

Just the normal stuff like fluids and changing battery and tires. Also needed to update my brakes and a headlight.

accountCircle Aaron N

It has an undiagnosable issue, the company doesn't know what is causing it. But other than that it has been supremely reliable. All the options and works well.

accountCircle Harry F

It has some problems. The door handles have had several recalls. And repairs are very expensive and time consuming. I've had a few major issues.

How Much Is the 2010 Ford Taurus Worth?

Blue book values range from $7,047 to $8,540, making the Ford Taurus cheaper than a Toyota Avalon or Hyundai Genesis. When new, the price range was $25,170 to $33,620. Depreciation is similar to rivals, losing about 10% of its current value per year on the used market.

What are the Different Models of the Ford Taurus?

How Does the Ford Taurus Compare to the Competition?

The Ford Taurus is an average large sedan compared to its rivals with no special features that make it stand out. Overall, it’s a simple and dependable choice for hauling passengers.

The Ford Fusion is another competitor from Ford, costing about $800 less. Interior materials are more luxurious in the Ford Fusion, but the Ford Taurus has more room and technology. We recommend the Ford Taurus since there are fewer mechanical problems reported by owners.

The Nissan Altima is a rival from Nissan which costs about $500 less. Performance and steering are both better in the Nissan Altima, but the Ford Taurus is more comfortable at highway speeds. We recommend the Ford Taurus since it doesn’t suffer from the same transmission problems found in the Nissan.

Collision avoidance system failure alert comes on. Cruise control turns off. Requiring pulling over to the side. Turning off the engine. Resetting the computer. Over two years and replaced several parts. Turned out to be the ABS computer module. The rear third window tail light went out. They had a tough time getting it mounted again. Went out again. But, now is permanently glued the window. Cannot be replaced. The cabin is small. Fitting only four adults. Trunk is huge. Blind spots due to mid and rear window pillars. Rear window set high. Needing to rely on back up collision avoidance system. Front panels are not fastened securely to the body. Trim often comes away from the body at doors and windows. Good gas mileage. The body feels solid. Several overall safety features.

My ford Taurus has never given me an issue for performance. The only thing I ever complain about if how far back I have to park so I do not ride into a curb. The gas mileage is actually excellent, with friends telling me that they are impressed with how far I can go with just 20$ worth of gas.

It gives great gas mileage, it does vehicle maintenance test, and it is equipped with SiriusXM radio. You have the advantage to sync your phone, Bluetooth. Power locks, windows and seats anti lock brake system, also lets you know when your tire pressure is low and makes a dinging sound when something is wrong.

My Ford Taurus is a great car. It is easy to drive and very dependable. Air conditioner is very cold and has dual controls. The only real issue I have had were the brakes. They had to be replaced far sooner than they should have been. My car leather seats, but does not have heat/cool seats which I would like. The size of the Taurus is just right for me. My Taurus is the year of 2010, the first year of that particular style. The silver trim around the lighting has started to peel. I see changes of that in the newer models. No major problems except for the fact it has rusted a hole in the center of my back bumper. My ac makes a clicking noise when it is turned off or on. It performs well and is very reliable. It is comfortable. I especially appreciate how I can adjust the driver's seat upward & forward & yet tilt it down a bit in the front. It works really well for a short person such as I. By lifting the driver's seat up it also helps when It's sunny out to see better. The trunk is so roomy, you can fit a lot of stuff in there. I am thankful for 2 phone Charger hookups, one in the front & one in the back. About the only thing that concerns me is the front lower area of my car sits so low It's too easy to hit things & it could do damage. Otherwise I truly like my Taurus.

I love my car, it is a very reliable vehicle to have. It handles winters in the north rather well and ride smoothly. I have had little problems with the vehicle and have had it for a year. I am also a mother to a 6 year old and have another on the way and love the room in the back for the kids. The trunk room is also very nice, I moved and I was able to fit a lot in the trunk. I would recommend to people with one to two children, because it is a small compact car and handles nicely with lots of room. I have power seating for the driver side which allows me to move closer to the petals since I am only 5'4. It also has the options to make yourself taller so your not sitting right on the floor or that was your head is not hitting the roof if your tall. I rate the car a 5 out of 5.

With the limited version I have leather seats, rear view backup camera located in the rear view mirror, automatic seats and front windows and Bluetooth which is amazing. I really enjoy my car because it's a full size sedan so it is bigger than most but amazingly comfortable and affordable for a commuting car for work and fun.

She's the best big blue beast.
The car is a beast. I have had no major issues with the car. I had maintained regular oil and all fluid changes. Preventative mileage maintenance. Has helped keep the car in excellent running order. I have one spot of rust on a wheel well. When I reached 185,000 miles last month I began hearing transmission slippage. The transmission will need to be replaced in the near future. This has been a strong car.

Old car. Served us well for a good 2 years.
I got it really cheap from one of my relatives, always had problems but they had just got a new car and gave it to is for 200 dollars. Used it for 2 years and now we're looking to get a new vehicle. It is white, pretty reliable despite problems. It was a really old car when we got it and I was surprised it still worked for as long as it did.

Bad engine Ford Duratec engine.
My car performs well, it has been reliable for the most part; the features are good, several blind spots, a/c vents awkward, great ride, roomy trunk; had to replace engine due to water pump failure, Ford would not honor or assist with replacement of faulty design. I will not buy another Ford product!

I love my 2010 ford Taurus.
Overall my 2010 ford Taurus has been very reliable. Had to replace alternator brakes and rotors but nothing major in the last 2 years I have owned it and I bought it with high miles. My Taurus is the limited edition comes with all kinds of extra backup camera lights if different colors inside of car.
