Alex Showalter
Dec 28, 2022

The 2019 Honda CR-V lasts around 250,000 miles with only minor battery and stereo system software issues. At $21,925 to $27,500, it’s pricey, but worth the money for one of the most reliable compact SUVs available on the market.

likeFilled The Good
There’s a lot of passenger space, the steering is responsive for a small SUV and it’s very efficient.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The suspension is firmer than other SUVs, the stereo system has some software bugs and the base engine feels slow.

Is the 2019 Honda CR-V a Good Used SUV?

  • Overall Rating 8/10 – 2019 is a good year for the Honda CR-V since it’s fun to drive with high reliability ratings, giving it a good overall score. Owner reviews praise the passenger room, low ownership costs, and safety features.
  • Interior, Comfort & Cargo 8/10 – Interior materials are nice for a small SUV, seating is comfortable with supportive cushions, cargo space is also good for the CR-V’s size.
  • Reliability 9/10 – There are no major mechanical issues reported with the 2019 CR-V. Avoid models from 20152016 since they have transmission failures. Models from 20172022 are much better choices.

  • Safety 8/10 – The 2019 CR-V is a safe SUV earning a perfect 5-star rating in highway safety crash tests. The LX model comes standard with a rearview camera. All other models have Honda Sensing, with advanced safety features including lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, along with forward collision warning.
  • Gas Mileage 8/10 – Fuel economy is good at up to 30 MPG, giving 420 miles of range out of the 14 gallon tank. Gas costs are $70 cheaper than average at $155 per month.
  • Value 9/10 – The 2019 Honda CR-V is more expensive than some other small SUVs, although it holds value well, making it a good long-term choice.

Love my CR-V- so many features make driving fun!
I love my CR-V. The best features are apple carplay, lane assist and brake assist. The seats are leather with heating and dual climate control in the front seat. They re designed the CR-V in 2017 and it is now longer and taller than previous models. Plenty of room for everything. I have not found anything negative about it yet!

Great SUV! Perfect for family and for long rides.
Very good mileage and so comfortable ride. It has all the necessary bells and whistles. No problem encountered so far but one thing I would change probably would be the tpms. It needs to have a reading in the console so you don't need to check it manually each time.

My Honda CR-V is dependable and sporty.
The CR-V is both dependable and reliable. It gets great gas mileage highway and in town. The cargo room is great and there's many different ways to change it to fit your needs. The interior is both spacious and comfy. I do not have leather, power seats, or navigation.

Honda CR-V: an absolute winner!
My family has only had the car for a short amount of time. To this point, we love it and it has met all of our expectations! The interior is very luxurious for the price (we visited a number of dealerships and saw many vehicles) and the drive is very smooth. The sound system is also phenomenal. I particularly like the dash controls - they feel very intuitive and easy to access while driving.

It is a Honda CR-V so it is reliable. Gas mileage is great and it handles well. Lots of room in the back. It also has a lot of safety features which makes you feel safer driving down the road and these days that means a lot. It is a nice looking vehicle and rides nice.

Best SUV. Would not have pick another vehicle.
CR-V is a dependable car. Drives great in the snow and other type of unsafe weather. I am a nurse and I feel confident driving this vehicle in the snow knowing I'll get to and from work safely. Rides nicely on the road. Good on gas. Good highway mileage.

Lies about gas consumption
I bought this car part due to the gas mileage that you’re suppose to get, the estimated mileage average is suppose to be 28 per gallon. I’ve been driving the car for about two months now with about 2000 miles and my average is 21 mpg. It’s terrible. I’m not really sure how they came up with the mileage that they say. I want to complaint to Honda but I don’t really know where to complaint.

What Do Critics Say About the Honda CR-V?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Honda CR-V is small enough for large cities yet has enough room for five adults, with high owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the 2019 CR-V at 4.1/5, praising the peppy turbocharged engine, but doesn’t like the finicky touchscreen stereo system.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the CR-V a 4.1/5, enjoying the excellent safety technology, but owners don’t like the low towing capacity at 1,500 pounds.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Honda CR-V Have?

Common problems found on the 2019 Honda CR-V include a dead battery, frozen infotainment system, as well as random parking brake engagement. Overall, these problems are minor compared to other compact SUVs on the market, leading to low repair bills.

A dead battery is the most widespread complaint from 2019 Honda CR-V owners in the first 5,000 miles. There are a lot of electrical accessories in the CR-V which can lead to parasitic draws while the SUV is off. There are software updates which reduce the amount of electrical draw while it’s off. Most dealerships will install the software update for free to improve reliability.

The infotainment system freezing up is another issue reported by CR-V owners at around 10,000 miles. This is also caused by a software issue which makes the stereo system become unresponsive. Many dealerships will update the software for free, while some may charge around $50.

Random parking brake engagement also shows up on some 2019 CR-V models at roughly 15,000 miles. There are also software updates which improve the reliability of the electronic parking brake. Since this is a safety-related issue, nearly all dealerships are willing to install the latest software update for free.

There are five recalls on the 2019 Honda CR-V, which is similar to other compact SUVs. The most serious recall covers the fuel pump, which may fail while driving. Honda will replace the fuel pump assembly for free on affected models. Most of the other recalls cover warning labels, which are not much of a concern once they’ve been changed.

How Long Will the 2019 Honda CR-V Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Honda CR-V can last around 250,000 miles, which is only slightly shorter than the long-lasting Toyota RAV4. Regular annual maintenance costs are much lower than other SUVs, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $248 per year.

As a used 2019 Honda CR-V reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the serpentine belt for $120, knock sensor costing $250, as well as the A/C evaporator temperature sensor which costs around $400.

So far it has been very reliable. I did have one problem where the windows would roll down on their own. Could be a short in the wiring. I fixed that with the putting windows in locked position.

accountCircle Lyle J

I have only had this vehicle for three months. Reliable so far. All reviews were positive and Honda had good reputation.

accountCircle Thomas O

Yes very much so. Haven't had it that long but so far so good. Not a problem with it so far. It is the 150 with turbo so it has some get up and go.

accountCircle Ruth F

None. Haven't had a problem at all. Except for maybe trying to figure out all of the bells and whistles.

accountCircle Sara H

It is extremely reliable. I have not had any problems. It is also only 3 months old. We rarely had problems with our other CR-V.

accountCircle Irene A

It seems pretty reliable, my family has not had any problems with it and it is very spacious. We really enjoy it.

accountCircle Lucy K

Yes it is very reliable, no problems at all. Starts up, keyless entry and exit. The air conditioner is cold and the heat toasty.

accountCircle Mariah H

So far, the 5 months I have had the car it has been very reliable. I have driven older models of cr v's before and never had any issues with them. Honda's are quality cars.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is okay in the base Honda CR-V LX with a standard 5-inch color display. On the EX and higher models, there’s a better 7-inch touchscreen stereo system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety technology is also simple on the LX model with a standard rearview camera. All other models come with advanced driver assistance features including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist system, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors, automatic high-beam headlights, as well as adaptive cruise control.

Is the 2019 Honda CR-V a Good Value?

Yes, the 2019 Honda CR-V is a good value since it has very high reliability scores paired with low ownership costs. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $22,000 to $27,775, making it more expensive than a Mazda CX-5 or Ford Escape. When new, the price range was $24,450 to $34,250. Depreciation is better than average, only losing about 6% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Honda CR-V?

There are four models of the 2019 Honda CR-V available, from the base LX all the way up to the well-equipped Touring. The 2019 CR-V is also offered with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, depending on the model.

LX is the entry-level model with:

  • All other CR-V models aside from the LX come with a more efficient 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder which produces 190 horsepower while getting up to 30 MPG. This engine also comes with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Performance is good, taking 7.5 seconds to go from 0-60 MPH.

What Colors Does the Honda CR-V Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Honda CR-V?

The 2019 Honda CR-V is a very comfortable compact SUV with seating for up to five passengers. Seating is nice throughout the cabin, offering high-quality cloth and leather options with plenty of cushioning.

Passenger room is great, there’s more than enough legroom in the rear seats to comfortably fit taller adults.

VehicleHistory Image

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The fifth generation of the Honda CR-V came out in 2017.

2015: New 7-inch touchscreen, engine, and CVT transmission introduced.

2016: Security system added to the LX model, new SE model introduced.

2017: Fully redesigned for the fifth generation with new engines, technology, and styling.

2018: No changes.

2019: No changes from earlier years.

2020: New standard 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder, more safety features on all models, small exterior styling changes.

2021: No major changes.

How Does the Honda CR-V Compare to the Competition?

The 2019 Honda CR-V is one of the best compact SUVs on the market since it offers excellent reliability, a lot of technology, and a comfortable interior.

The Toyota RAV4 is another compact SUV which costs around $2,500 more. Standard safety technology is a bit better in the Toyota RAV4, while the Honda CR-V offers a more engaging driving experience. We recommend the Honda CR-V since ownership costs are slightly lower, although both are great small SUVs worth testing to see which you prefer.

The Mazda CX-5 is a competitor which can be found for about $1,500 less. Interior materials are more luxurious in the Mazda CX-5, while there’s slightly more space found in the Honda CR-V. We recommend the Honda CR-V due to their low ownership costs, yet both are very good choices.

I love how roomy it is but I do miss some features in my previous vehicle, a van. I also miss my CD player. They really need to make this an option. I am really pleased with my Honda CR-V. This need the 1st time that I had the chance to have and I was surprised with the vehicle. It is very comfortable to drive. Has good power. Handles well on the roadways, even in the winter time. I drive a decent distance to work and I believe that my CR-V also does well on gas. Overall I have nothing bad to say about the SUV. Not a good overall value for the price.
Too small, not enough power, seat does not go back far enough, not as good on gas as I would prefer. The interior is not roomy at all. The tires are always saying low pressure and do not tell you which tire is low. Cloth seats stain very easy and there is not much room for cargo.

There's not much room. I have long legs and the seat doesn't go back far enough for me. Otherwise it is a decent vehicle. Gets good gas mileage. It is comfortable for other riders and would be a good size car for someone with little kids. The back has decent room and can hold a lot.

Great vehicle for two people rides.
The Honda CR-V 2019 is great for one or two person use. The front seats are very comfortable with a lot of space. It also has apple play which is useful for people who own an apple product. However the gas runs out very quickly and sometimes error pops up. The backseats are also very uncomfortable; the seats do not move and are very straightened, making long car rides uncomfortable. The key is not a smart key, so the trunk does not open on its own. The sound of the music that plays through the car is pretty nice, although sometimes the sound is too small.

My CR-V is a wonderful value for the price. Gas mileage is good. It is a comfortable car with all the necessary safety features. Honda is Disappointing Me
The alert goes on indicating the tire(s) are low. We check the tires and even have them checked and they are at the desired pressure. The car is a year and a half old and this has happened at least 10 times. I have taken it in to service and and they do not give an adequate explanation. Also, just had a new battery put in. The car sat for two weeks because I was out of town. It is in a heated dry secure space. It was dead when I can back. Also indicted that the parking brake was on which I never turned on. The parking brake appeared to be draining the battery. Honda Service put in a new battery and told me not to let it sit.

I love my honda. They are the best.
My honda is very reliable. This is my second crv and third honda. I had a lot of luck with my previous honda. I like the crv because they are very comfortable. I like having a hatchback. It provides a lot of extra needed space. The backseat of my car is very comfortable with lots of extra space. My car performs very well.

Good car with some electronic glitches.
The CR-V is roomy. Seem to be some glitches with the safety feature electronics. We currently are having issues with the electronic start button. We drive a lot and the vehicle gets good gas mileage for the size of the vehicle. Love the heated seat feature.

Honda all the way everyday.
Easy to handle, comfortable for long trips as well as everyday use. Great on gas, easy to get in and out of room for 5 people. Steering wheel and seat for short to tall people. Excellent air conditioning and heater. Beautiful exterior and interior, radio easy to use hands free phone,

The pros of owning a Honda CR-V.
Honda CR-V, has better fuel economy, improved safety, sharper handling, and an upgraded interior. Honda CR-V offers a 5.0-inch entertainment system, a rearview camera, automatic climate control, Bluetooth connectivity, a single USB port, a driver information screen, and keyless fob.

Quality SUV for people who are always on the go.
The car runs great! Great mile per gallon for an SUV! It has a lot of room for traveling with our dog! I like the backup camera and the turn feature that beeps if there is someone in the lane too close for you to turn or switch lanes! Love the heated seats and dual air control!

CR-V is a great SUV strongly recommend this to a buyer looking for a smaller SUV.
2019 is much better designed on the interior than the 2008 CR-V. Better traveling on road. Currently avg. 30.6 to mile tp gal. No other problems have occurred. Highly recommended it to others. After getting the CR-V we made several trips and avg. Over 34 mpg. Would buy another one in future because of the reliability and comfort.

Safe and reliable SUV car.
We were in a rollover in an older model, airbags deployed correctly and we walked away without a scratch. Made it an easy decision to buy a newer model. Performs well, has touch screen in center console. Child seat anchors are set funny so you lose a seat if it is set in the middle.

It drives great and as great gas mileage.
Apple carplay is great. The handling is perfect and is great for long road trips as it gets great gas mileage. The back set is extremely roomy and comfortable even in the middle seat. The trunk is very spacious and fits lots of sports equipment like hockey equipment and baseball equipment. Or also lots of furniture. Sometimes the break notification gets aggravating but it is easy to turn off. The lane departure warning is great and super helpful. The seats are super comfy even for 12+ hour long car rides. It is easy to control and is not to light or too heavy. The ability to lock or unlock without pulling out your keys is super helpful as well. I had to drive for a 20 hour road trip when I was moving with this car and it handled it great. We took loads of boxes of furniture, luggage and just other moving stuff and it didn't faze the car at all. We stopped every 8 to 10 hours to refill but other than that it was great. Honda has great service as well and is always super helpful when there are issues. This is a great car and would be great for a first car as well. I had a 2016 for my first car and it was great and Honda keeps proving that they can make reliable cars that perform super well. It has many great features and will be in running for more years to come.

Honda CR-V, best vehicle out of my last 8 purchases over 31 years of driving.
Most comfortable car that I have owned. Love all the features but my favorite is the gas mileage is outstanding especially! Averaging 29.0 to the gallon. Small gas tank is probably the only thing I would say if I had to choose a negative aspect. But not a big deal to me. I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone.

The CR-V is the best all-around vehicle!
This vehicle is the most reliable vehicle I have had. Luxury, lots of cargo space, plus great on gas. It has leather, android auto, it can carry mountain bikes and I can travel in it knowing that I am in a reliable vehicle. I love it! I will definitely consider Hondas for future purchases.

2019 Honda CR-V ex-l - more ups than downs.
We got the CR-V when we had a baby, and it is served us well since we got it. There does seem to be an issue with the tire pressure sensor, but other than that it is been very reliable. The leather seats are comfortable and easy to keep clean, and it is got a great amount of cargo space in the back. The back seat can feel a little cramped at times, but the front is very comfortable. The best features (which I use constantly) are the Honda sensing technology, specifically adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. In addition to that, android auto support was a must, and works well here.

Beautiful, all-around great choice for safety and quality at an affordable price.
It handles well and drives smoothly, and when I am a passenger instead of driver I don't notice any problems with the suspension (I get carsick easily). The aesthetic is classically beautiful. The only caveat is the screen: it is near impossible to see when hit by direct sunlight, making the rear camera useless in those conditions.

About my car 2019 Honda CR-V overview. It is the car I am currently using.
The 2019 Honda CR-V is a triple threat: it packs a host of high-tech equipment, impressive fuel economy, and copious cargo space. As if that is not enough, it also boasts contemporary styling and excellent road manners. Yes, the Honda CR-V ticks all the boxes for what constitutes an excellent crossover. Add two fuel-efficient powertrains, including a responsive turbocharged engine, and its faults are few. While the compact-crossover league is loaded with home-run hitters, the 2019 CR-V has the stats to be an MVP contender.

Perfect for people who have children but do not like large cars.
It is a very excellent car, super comfortable seats and nothing difficult to control it. Good for when you have kids and you do not like to use large vehicles. I haven't any kind of problem with the vehicle so far, I like it alot and I will not change it in a long time.
