The Honda Element: a reliable car after 25 years.

2004 Honda Element DX

I have been the sole owner of a 2004 Honda Element. I have driven all over the USA and parts of Canada with this car with few problems: one of the pro's of this vehicle. Other pros include, a very spacious cab with ample room for 4 to sit very comfortably. Cargo space is roomy and able to fit 4 suitcases, plus more. Back seats are removable to haul bigger items or even use to sleep. Rubber flooring in the cab allows for easy clean up to keep the interior looking fresh.. After 15 years, routine maintenance, and over 175000 miles, with no major mechanical issues. We have lived in extremely hot and extremely cold areas that have caused minor damage. For example, I have replaced the AC 3 times in this vehicle because our region would see months of over 100 degrees. On the flip side, We lived in extremely frigid climate with days as low as -40 degrees Celsius where the outside trim, windshield wipers, and antenna turned brittle and crumbled from the cold. We have also replaced the motors for the power windows . Other issues we have had were normal wear and tear: brakes, belts, filters, shocks, etc. Some cons of the car: Boxy shape creates large blind spot which you need to be mindful of. While the frame of the car is small, the suicide door design can make it hard to release your backseat passengers in tight parking lots, we get around 25 miles to the gallon in town, but I wish that number was better. & unfortunately, the road noise inside the cab is fairly audible. This car has been through many road trips, adventures in Nature, 2 children, and multiple cats and dogs. All in all the Honda Element has been a workhorse of a car that has served us very well and still looks great! If they still made The Element I would certainly consider buying again. Especially if they were to make a Hybrid version!

Pros and Cons of an '04 Honda Element

2004 Honda Element DX

I love my element! It drives smooth and is pretty quiet. It's great on gas for its size and I can't imagine a more affordable vehicle. It has its downsides though, one of the plastic trims on the side of my windshield flew off while I was driving once though and I have noticed the same missing trim piece on several other Elements. The vehicle has been great and never needed repair until just recently which isn't surprising from a Honda but it seems like it has hit it's expiration date as I have had 3 big repairs in the last 2 years but considering my Element is a 2004 and just now having issues I'd say that's still impressive. I love the style of the vehicle and will be really sad when it finally goes because Honda no longer produces the Element but I will enjoy mine till then. Would highly recommend this as a vehicle for anyone.

2004 Honda Element a fun vehicle to own.

2004 Honda Element DX

The 2004 Honda Element is a great vehicle to own. It is a 4 seater. The back 2 seats lean all the way back so the passengers can recline in their seat. The back seats also fold up onto the walls inside the vehicle. This gives a lot of room for hauling whatever you need. The vehicle is easy to keep clean. You can take a hose and wash the inside of it. There is no carpet to clean. It drives smooth unless you're behind a big truck on the highway. The box shape will then start to shake from the wind. I have had both window lifts go out. Needed to buy new ones to allow the window to be opened and closed. All in all this vehicle is a good buy. Some minor details to pay attention to but for the money the car runs great! Never had a problem with the motor or any other major part.

Fun car with lots of space but issues for taller people

2004 Honda Element DX

If you are a tall person the windshield is so far away when you are pulled up to a light you have to tilt your head to see the light. The middle console is really low that items will fall out and fly around your feet. The doors both open outward which is great when loading items in an open space, but if you are parked between two cars in a parking lot you have to do a sort of shimmy dance to get one door open, load item, close another door etc.

One highlight of my vehicle is that it's so comfortable and has so many uses.

2004 Honda Element DX

I think that this car isn't really newer, but it has tons of room and brings back memories from when I was little. It has room to put the seat up and have bikes, dogs, or even camp. It's all around perfect travel car. It's very comfortable and is perfect for cleaning out. Going to the beach is no problem, after we're done and get sand everywhere, I can just spray it out and its dries off. It's really just an amazing car.

Honda Element with heavy mileage but still beyond acceptable performance.

2004 Honda Element DX

It's a good car with good mileage in terms of gas. It has problems with a lot of safety recalls in regards to the airbags and seat belts. The meter for gas is a bit off too. But it has always gotten me where I needed to go with minimal problems. No major fixes needed either. The sound system works great. Seating is comfortable and all the back seats pull up for extra storage space.

Really versatile car. Great for camping and hauling things.

2004 Honda Element DX

Reliability has been great. The car holds a ton of stuff, making it great for camping trips, bicycling, and taking the dog around. The rear seats are best for short trips. They fold up easily to keep them out of the way when you want to load the car. The biggest complaint is probably that there is a lot of road noise. Otherwise, it is an excellent car.

Honda element/ STORAGE BOX

2004 Honda Element DX

I love my car... it's very economical, and has lots of room. My car is made for people who are outdoors and travel. Best for camping .. not to bad on gas. The only con is that it sits only 4 passengers. They stopped making this car in 2011. I hope to see them remake this car that sits at least 5 to 6 passengers.

Honda Element Description

2004 Honda Element DX

The Honda Element is a very spacious car. It is a box car which may not be what some people would like to purchase. However the car runs well and is decent on gas mileage. The stock music system is good. The center console is a little weird because it's on the floor of the car.

Car Radio Does Not Play Automatically

2004 Honda Element DX

The radio does not automatically turn on. I have to input a code and it'll turn on but turns off again after 2-3 minutes. The size is pretty good but I'm pretty tall and it hurts my knees sometimes. I think cup holders in the back seats would be great.
