2007 Honda Odyssey Review: A Year To Avoid With More Complaints Than Newer Models

Alex Showalter
May 5, 2022

The 2007 Odyssey lasts around 200,000 miles with widespread steering and engine problems. At $5,228 – 6,662, it’s expensive for one of the least reliable years.

likeFilled The Good
The passenger room is fantastic, it’s quick for a minivan and it’s safer than rivals.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The infotainment system is difficult to use, there’s a lot of plastic trim inside and the second row doesn’t fold flat and has to be removed.

Is the 2007 Honda Odyssey a Good Used Van?

  • No, 2007 is a bad year. Owner reviews complain about road-noise, breakdowns, and electric door problems.
  • Reliability ratings are below average. Models from 20052008 all have a lot of issues, with improvements for 2009.
  • Performance is very good from the standard V6 engine.
  • The Odyssey is a safe minivan, getting a perfect five-star rating in government crash tests, and has an optional rearview camera.
  • Fuel economy is okay, at up to 19 mpg combined.

Very good for family and traveling.
Love my Honda odyssey. It has lots of space you can fit 8 people and still have room for coolers, kids toys and more stuff on the back even with the 3rd row of seats up. The front seats have warmers which is nice during cold season. Is very roomy inside all passengers are comfortable even adults seating on the 3rd row. It has defroster on the windshield as well as the back window. All the windows are electric and the doors are automatic. The rear view camera is a most in a minivan. My minivan is equipped with a DVD system with a separate audio and headphone for the passengers on the back so while my kids watch their movies I can still listen to my music.

A great family car for those who needs space, reliability, and convenience.
The Honda Odyssey is a great car because of the space, reliability, and flexibility. With three rows of seats, it's great for a big family or transporting lots of friends. You can transport lots of things which is helpful for moving between homes or helping out friends. It's a very reliable car. My family has had this car since 2009, and ten years later it still runs reliably and we have only had one major issue with the alternator. The seats are comfortable, with seat heaters in the front. It's great for everyday travel, road trips, and everything in between.

It handles like a car but has the roominess of a van.
I love how the vehicle handles. I like how spacious it is. I love the storage room. I love the dual control temperature settings.

Honda Odyssey is a reliable car
Plenty of room for my whole family. Can fold down seats and haul cargo. Reliable, very few repairs in 11 years.

Honda Odysseys are solid, reliable vehicles that last a long time. You get your money's worth.
I love the comfort and durability of the seats in all three rows and how easy the fabric is to clean. The van feels solid, smooth and safe while driving and has had no major mechanical issues. I wish it had more cigarette lighters in the back for charging devices. Overall, the van has held up well to use by my family of 5 over the past 8 years. It has almost 170,000 miles.

Odyssey Minivan Review from a working mom of 4!
I love my Honda Odyssey! It's has been a great vehicle for kids. I love how comfortable it is for travel. What makes it comfortable and convenient is the ease of getting kids in and out with ease. We are able to go on vacation with all 4 of our kids and all our belongings fitting inside very easily.
accountCircle Sandra V
It drives smoothly. Can easily haul large items when needed. Carries my kids and additional friends or family as needed. The only thing I would change is I wish it had bluetooth.
It drives smoothly and handles nice. Can easily take a family of 7 on long car trips.

Honda, not worth the money.
The car is way to loud and bulky. The automatic doors get stuck all the time. Always sounds like there is wind in the car when you go over 45. The car is huge and annoying to park. Can't go that fast. All colors are ugly on the car. The trunk gets stuck.
accountCircle Meg s
It is very reliable, but not gas efficient.
I hate that it is a minivan. It has been quit reliable though. And it is good for long trips.

Sensors for automatic sliding doors have failed several times.
Electric door and light issues constantly. Complicated seat removal/insertion. Like the amount of space.

Honda needs to be gone-da.
Comfortable and great for getting my family around but not very cute. I was previous reliable but has definitely gone down hill with age, we used to drive from Dallas to fort Morgan Alabama every summer but I would be scared to do that now. The biggest plus is that it fits my whole family.
accountCircle Helen K
Clunky but consistent - it is not fun to drive but it is generally reliable
It is too long to park easily. Its steering wheel is stiff at low speeds. It gets terrible gas mileage. I have never enjoyed driving it though, on the flip side, other than the steering wheel it has generally been reliable.
accountCircle Patricia B
It is pretty trustworthy and I would trust it to go for another 12 years.
It is to big for me and bad gas mileage. It is almost paid for and will be mine. I have never liked the dark gray color.
accountCircle John B
You can fit an air mattress in the trunk space making it the ultimate car camping vehicle.
The Honda Odyssey does not have a reputation as a cool car. People always say " you drive a minivan?" But the car runs great. Has had past problems with the struts and brakes but I fixed those. I would buy it again.

It is spacious. IT is comfortable. It is affordable.
It is functional and my family enjoys it every day.

What Do Critics Say About the Odyssey?

  • Consumer Reports says the Odyssey is noisy, with average owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds gives the Odyssey a 4.2/5, liking the responsive handling, but disliking the high price.
  • Kelley Blue Book users rate the Odyssey 4.5/5 and enjoy the engaging driving experience, but don’t like the cheap interior.

What Common Problems Does the 2007 Honda Odyssey Have?

Problems found on the 2007 Odyssey include peeling paint, loss of power steering, and excessive oil consumption.

Peeling paint is the most common complaint from owners at around 100,000 miles. The roof in particular tends to peel very easily as the van gets older, and costs about $1,500 to repaint.

A loss of power steering is mentioned by owners at around 70,000 miles. The power steering pump wears out quickly, and replacing the entire pump assembly costs around $1,000.

Excessive oil consumption shows up within the first 100,000 miles. There are two main sources including failed seals in the engine, and a worn-out oil pump. Replacing the oil pump costs around $1,000, and rebuilding the engine with new seals costs over $2,000.

There are five serious recalls covering the brakes which leak fluid, increasing the risk of a crash, and the fuel pump which can cause a fire if it leaks.

How Long Will the 2007 Honda Odyssey Last?

A properly maintained 2007 Odyssey will last around 200,000 miles, which is about 100,000 miles less than top-rated competitors like the Toyota Sienna. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to rivals, according to Repair Pal, at $447 per year.

Most 2007 Odysseys will have over 100,000 miles, so buyers should be prepared to replace the fuel pump for $900, the exhaust gas valve costing $300, and the steering knuckle which costs $700.

accountCircle Heather M

It has had some minor issues with the engine and I believe a couple of recalls but I am sorry I cannot remember specifics. . Currently our side sliding doors are broken but all things break and we will get them fixed.

accountCircle Latasha C

I have had this can since January and the only problem I have had was an issue with the axles, which needed to be changed.

accountCircle Leslie C

The only problem I have noticed is that they do get scratched easily, other than that it is very good.

accountCircle cheryl l

No. Perfect condition. Everything works. Excellent trim. Excellent heat and excellent radio. Sounds awesome/buy another.

accountCircle liz s

Yes it is reliable. Honda's are fairly cheap to fix so if something breaks down or needs repaired my boyfriend can do it quickly and efficiently.

accountCircle Jenny W

Yes is very reliable. I have had no major issues with mine I have only had to replace tires I do have 3 tire sensors that are out but they are not necessary to fix.

accountCircle Christy Y

Just like with any car, if the odyssey has its routine maintenance done, it will be reliable. It is very well built and the mechanical components are sturdy.

accountCircle Sarah K

Very reliable. One of the doors has a weird spring that is making it not open and close properly. Otherwise there'r e do not seem to be any problems.

How Much is the 2007 Honda Odyssey Worth?

Blue book values on the Odyssey range from $5,228 – 6,662, making it about $1,500 more expensive than a Chrysler Town & Country or Nissan Quest. When new, the price range was $25,645 to $39,095. Depreciation is average, losing about 10% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Odyssey?

There are four models of the Odyssey available. Technology is okay, but there’s an update in 2008 that adds a new infotainment system.

LX is the entry-level model with:

  • 16-inch Steel Wheels
  • Cloth Seating
  • Keyless Entry
  • Manual Sliding Doors
  • Four-speaker AM/FM/CD Stereo System

EX is a step up adding features such as:

  • 16-inch Alloy Wheels
  • Power Sliding Doors
  • Power Driver’s Seat
  • Six-speaker AM/FM/CD Stereo With 6-Disc Changer

EX-L has some luxury items including:

  • Leather Seating
  • Heated Front Seats
  • Power Moonroof
  • Optional Navigation & Rearview Camera

Touring is the flagship model and has:

  • 18-inch Alloy Wheels
  • Premium Leather Seating
  • Power Liftgate
  • Parking Sensors

What Engines Come in the Odyssey?

The only engine offered in the 2007 Odyssey is a powerful 3.5L V6 making 244 horsepower and getting up to 19 mpg combined. Performance is good for a van, taking 8.6 seconds to go 0-60 mph.

What Colors Does the Odyssey Come In?

How Big is the Odyssey?

The 2007 Odyssey is an average-sized minivan similar to the Kia Sedona or Dodge Grand Caravan. Passenger room is good throughout the cabin with room for adults in all three rows.

Cargo space is great, offering 38.4 cu. ft. of room behind the third row, 91 behind the second, and all the way up to 147 cu. ft. with all of the seats folded flat or removed.

How Does the Odyssey Compare to the Competition?

The Toyota Sienna is a popular rival, which costs about $1,000 more. Where the Sienna stands out is with a more reliable powertrain, but the technology is more advanced in the Odyssey. We recommend the Sienna for 2007 since there are fewer complaints from owners.

The Chrysler Pacifica is another competitor costing about $2,000 less. Interior materials are higher quality in the Pacifica, but the Odyssey has more room for passengers. We recommend neither for the 2007 model year, since they both have some mechanical issues.

Terrific family car with lots of room for kids and pets, plus all of their stuff.
My Honda Odyssey has been a wonderful car. We bought it preowned at 50K miles and now it has about 175K. We have traveled all over the U.S. In it and it has been a workhorse. We love all of the room for suitcases and passengers. Usually we travel with 4 adults and 2 medium size dogs, plus all of their suitcases and food prep needs for a week or more and everything fits. We use the DVD player on trips or the 6 CD player for entertainment. There is an inverter in the back which helps make sure that e-devices all stay charged. We have had a few repairs needed, but they were all covered on the extended warranty. It came with run-flat tires and those have given us great peace of mind. An all around great car.

The perfect car for a growing family.
We initially bought this car because we knew it had good reviews. We decided to buy used. It did have low mileage that we liked. I wasn't happy that we had to replace the a/c right after we bought it. Also, it doesn't have an audio jack, so we don't have a way to play our music off of our phones. Overall though it is a reliable car.

I absolutely love how spacious the vehicle is, that there is A/C controlled in the back of the van, there's a DVD player for long trips, the back seats set into the floor for more space, and that there are several ways to close the sliding doors rather than slam them shut or pry them open. The little maintenance cost for my vehicle over the years as a plus for me.
The Honda odyssey that I have Owned since 2007 it's one of the most reliable cars that I've had in my life with over 170,000 miles on my car I've only had to replace my transmission once and I've hardly had any major maintenance problems other than the catalytic converter which just went out and I had to replace. I've taken numerous trips around California over the years with my children and I have never been stuck due to engine problems or issues regarding the vehicle. Maintenance cars have always been low and affordable for me to fix such as oil changes two nights in basic maintenance that you have on any vehicle that's in a group price range between $30,000. Of the best purchases made and I'm still driving 12 years later and help to get another five years

A work horse of a vehicle
Comfortable to drive, picks up speed well, handles curves nicely. Very reliable in the ice and snow, gets great traction, corrects itself well, never had a problem. Love the way I can change around the seating arrangement. Love the audio, video system. Plays DVDs without a problem. Screen has held up nicely. Has plugins in the back seat for extra electronic gadgets. Love being able to lay the back seats down level with the floor so my dogs can ride with ease and or I can load up a bunch of garden supplies, camping gear or groceries. Just a very versatile well driving vehicle, no complaints. Has performed amazingly well over the years. I think it has had an airbag recall. We have replaced a few minor things over the years but I can't recall what. Nothing major though. It currently has over 160,000 miles on it and is going strong. We take it on long camping trips as well as everyday driving. Would recommend an Odyssey to anyway. Great vehicle, great engine.

It is pretty outdated, and a bit clunky to drive. It mostly works fine but I am afraid to take it long distances because it might break down. So it works for now but not a long term vehicle. It also is not exactly eco friendly and takes a lot of gas.

That it's had some recalls to do with the transmission.
I like it because it is a dependable vehicle. I like that it is roomy and our family has cubbies everywhere. I like the sunroof. I don't like that the dvd quit working about 8 years after buying the vehicle new and that the sliding doors have issues.
