The 2013 Honda Odyssey lasts around 300,000 miles with only minor braking and engine hesitation issues. At $13,895 to $18,491, it’s a great value for a minivan loaded with a lot of technology.

Cabin is quieter than other minivans, steering is very responsive and V6 offers excellent power.

Advanced features are only found on the high-end models, second row doesn’t fold flat and there are a lot of buttons on the dash.

Best overall family vehicle when factoring in availability of top tethers, ease of seatbelt installs for child restraints, appropriate head support for all passengers.
Top tethers in all rear seating positions; wide mode option helps fit three-across. Third row is very narrow, but still the most versatile with safe belt fits and ease of installing child restraints.

You actually feel your family is in a safe car.
The seats are pretty comfortable. I like the fact that there are 3 seats in the back and 3 in the middle of the minivan. The vehicle can easily get cold or warm depending on the weather outside. I learned how to drive using this vehicle and I honestly felt like it was easy to drive. Also the dashboard that the van has tells you when things need to be changed or when there might be something wrong in the van that Its not easily noticeable to the eye which is very helpful. If there is not much pressure in the wheels of the car you get a warning about it and that way you can get them fixed. The van also has a back camera which helps the driver when reversing or even while parking.

Has great features, adjustable seats, temperature control in back and front.
So far I have not had any problems with my vehicle, it is very roomy, and easy on gas, the seats are comfortable, and can be easily adjusted so, I can see out over the steer wheel to drive, I am a short person. I love the storage places I have in my vehicle. I drive it on vacation two to three times a year, I take my foster children to school in it and they can get in and out of it easy.

Comfort safe and convenient for a mom of 3 on the go.
Super convenient, automatIc doors for a mom on the go. Plenty of trunk space and third row space for additional passengers. Solid safe and no additional problems. While this vehicle is not the best in the snow, it is better than most. Does great on gas for long drives and easy to clean.

It's paid off and at this point I am saving from not having a car payment. I'm just worried about how much a new vehicle will be.
It's a very reliable vehicle. We take it on trips and have had no problems with it. It is beginning to get a lot of miles on it but feel it may have a few good years left on it.

I can fit all the things! My kids, their stuff, my dogs. It's an 8 passenger vehicle and I adore it.
I love all the space that I have now. I love the electronic doors. I do wish it had keyless entry but when we are ready to upgrade to a newer model, that is an option on the newer ones.

The car has a great air conditioner.
The car is great. My mom uses it to take us to places. It can comfortably hold 8 people. Everything works great. I like that there is a function that lets you turn off the ac in the back is nice since if it gets to cold it can be turned off. The car is a great size for road trips.

Honda usually have an excellent track record, so even with higher mileage, it still functions like new.
It rides very smooth, has a DVD player so that keeps my nephews entertained. Excellent on gas consumption. Is a V6 so it has decent power when needed on hills and mountains.

Worst ever
STAY AWAY from the Honda Odyssey!! Chronic engine problems have plagued my Honda. AND, Honda keeps dodging and refusing to cover the repairs even though there is a lawsuit and recall on these sub-par automobiles. It's double trouble. Bad product and very poor customer support by Honda.

Huge interior but makes for poor handling.
Cons: to large (long), not great maneuvering, terrible in the snow, little things break all the time. Pros: comfortable back seats for kids, good configuration options.

Automatic doors and can roll windows down through fob. Bluetooth is great.
It would have been better to have when the kids were younger. However, the fact that all doors open automatically, minus the driver and front passenger, its great. Knock on wood, we really haven't come across any major problems. Wish it was a little better on gas. However, for a people mover vehicle for 8, I cannot really complain.

Roomy family car with automatic doors and bad engine.
I love how roomy this car is. It is so easy to get children buckled in with the automatic doors. The back up camera is great. However, we have had multiple engine problems with this car and have had to put several thousand dollars into it to have them fixed. It does not drive smoothly and is unreliable to take on long trips.

What I think of my Honda Odyssey
Does not have a built in navigation system. Also does not have a television to keep the kids entertained for long rides
accountCircle Zoe P
Honda Odyssey: incredible endurance.
The Odyssey is kinda clunky. It is a low profile car, so it is very easy to scrape the front of it on curbs. I have had this same experience with the 2005 Odyssey as well. However, it has lasted very well. My family and I have driven in it across the country and back, as well as to and from New Mexico three times.

What Do Critics Say About the Honda Odyssey?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2013 Odyssey has a quiet and comfortable cabin, with high owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds gives the Odyssey a 4.3/5 praising the agile handling, but doesn’t like the number of buttons on the dash.
  • Kelley Blue Book users rate the Odyssey at 4.3/5 and enjoy the passenger room, but owners don’t like the lack of available all-wheel-drive.

What Common Problems Does the 2013 Honda Odyssey Have?

The common complaints found on the 2013 Honda Odyssey include shaking while braking, hesitation at acceleration, and peeling paint. Overall, these problems are relatively minor compared to other minivans from 2013, and the repair costs are reasonably affordable as well.

Shaking while braking is a common complaint from owners at around 35,000 miles. Worn brake rotors are the source of the problem, and replacing or resurfacing them fixes the problem. Replacing the rotors costs about $400, and resurfacing is around $250.

Hesitation at acceleration is another complaint from owners at around 30,000 mils. The main source of the problem has to do with the fuel-to-air mixture. Owners should first check the mass airflow and throttle position sensors, which cost around $150 each to replace.

Peeling paint also shows up on some Odyssey models at around 60,000 miles. Paint that is improperly cared for will wear down in sunlight and start to peel. The only way to fix the problem is by repainting the affected areas, which costs around $1,000 per panel.

There are 5 recalls, and most of them are minor compared to other minivans. The most serious recall is for premature engine piston wear. It only affects 270 models and isn’t a widespread issue. Other recalls include seats and airbag modules, which are common on all used minivans.

How Long Will the 2013 Honda Odyssey Last?

A well-maintained 2013 Honda Odyssey will last around 300,000 miles, which is similar in length to the highly-rated Toyota Sienna. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other minivans according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $590 per year.

Since nearly all used 2013 Honda Odyssey models will have over 100,000 miles buyers should be prepared to replace the spark plugs for $250, power seat control module costing $350, and the door lock actuators which cost around $200.

accountCircle BIDISHA R

Yes, the car is very reliable and dependable. It serves the purpose for long drives and short drivers to the store as well as driving on a little tougher terrain.

accountCircle Lenore J

The Honda odyssey is reliable. The oil gets changed regularly and we have not had any major problems with the vehicle. The car tells you what is wrong when there is a problem.

accountCircle Sandra G

No problems so far except normal maintenance. Honda is a reliable brand and many makes and models are known to have long life spans with many miles

accountCircle Allison N

It’s very reliable the only drawback is it’s expensive to fix and maintain. We haven't had any major problems except when mom got into an accident while on vacation and it cost a lot to fix and it took several weeks

accountCircle Joe R

It is reliable. It does die some but it is easy to start backup. The air conditioning goes off in the back a lot

accountCircle Nicole Q

The only problem I have had is my gas cap needed replaced to make my check engine light go off. Very reliable.

accountCircle Frances M

The 2013 Honda Odyssey is extremely reliable. Keep in mind that you should perform regular maintenance on this or any vehicle for that matter.

accountCircle Jennifer N

It has been very reliable with minimal repair issues in almost six years. We've been confident taking it on road trips. It’s never let us down.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is great in the Honda Odyssey compared to other minivans from 2013. There’s a standard 8-inch information display in the dash, and optional rear seat entertainment system. The safety technology is decent with blind spot monitoring and rearview camera systems.

Is the 2013 Honda Odyssey a Good Value?

Yes, the 2013 Honda Odyssey is a good value for a minivan. Blue book prices range from $13,895 to $18,491, making it more expensive than other minivans including the Dodge Grand Caravan or Nissan Quest. When new, the price range was $28,675 to $44,025. Depreciation is better than average, losing only around 8% of its current value per year.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The fourth generation of the Honda Odyssey was introduced in 2011, and replaced by the fifth generation in 2018.

2011: Fully redesigned for the fourth generation with new styling, upgraded interior, more efficient engine, and new stereo.

2012: More features including Bluetooth & USB connectivity.

2013: Rearview camera on all models.

2014: Minor exterior styling changes, internet radio, and in-van vacuum cleaner.

2015: No major changes.

2016: New SE model with more affordable features.

How Does the Honda Odyssey Compare to the Competition?

The Honda Odyssey is one of the best minivans offered in 2013 and offers a long-lasting engine, plenty of room, and good technology for its age earning our recommendation.

The Toyota Sienna is a popular competitor, which is about $2,000 more. Interior materials are a bit nicer on the entry-level Toyota Sienna model, while the Honda Odyssey has more technology available. We recommend the Toyota Sienna since it has lower ownership costs, although both are excellent minivans.

The Honda Pilot is another family-friendly vehicle from Honda which costs around $1,800 more. Performance in the snow is better with the Honda Pilot’s available 4WD system, but the Honda Odyssey has more room for passengers and cargo. We recommend the Honda Pilot since it can go more places, however, the Odyssey has more room.

We've had this car for years and love it! It's a great, comfy family vehicle with 8 comfy seats, a great radio, aux and CD sound system and a large trunk able to fit many needs! I would highly recommend it for just about anyone! We've only had one or two issues as its gotten old but they've been super easy to deal with! This vehicle is versatile. It is so easy to remove seats and stow away the rear seats. It is very low maintenance. It rides quiet and the seats are very comfortable. The car is such good way for getting a group of kids around. You can fit five in the back seats and they will still have elbow room.
The vehicle is great for carrying more than a regular car. The automatic doors are annoying because the car has to be in park for them to work, but otherwise, no specific complaints. Love the ability to fold down the back seats.

Basic details of the car.
It takes a lot of fuel due to it is size. However, it is reliable and there is a good amount of space. Three rows of seating and a good amount of trunk space help. However, it is not as solid as one would hope, and can shake in heavy wind. The seats go back well. The automatic doors can be unreliable.

My love for my Honda odyssey minivan.
I bought this vehicle cause I have 5 kids. It has so much room for all your needs. All my kids play sports so it would be filled to the top in the back of the van with nothing but sports equipment and I would still have more than enough room for my kids. Also I have tall kids my tallest kid is 6'4 so when we bought the vehicle we made sure that our kids would have enough leg room. I would buy this vehicle again even after my kids are grown and moved out cause it runs so good and it's even better on gas.

Overview of 2013 Honda odyssey minivan.
This minivan is a reliable vehicle. We have four teenagers and it is roomy enough for everyone, plus luggage when traveling. Front and back temperature control, CD player that holds/"records" 6 CDs. In the 5 years that we have owned the vehicle, we have only had one major repair: we replaced the timing belt and power steering pump and hose. We are very satisfied with Honda products, generally. This vehicle is no exception.

I love the GPS, and the drop down DVD system for long road trips. The programmable heated seats are a huge bonus. There is so much storage and many cup holders. We've had it for over five years, and it is never needed anything other than basic maintenance and new tires. It is a very comfortable drive and easy to maneuver in spite of it is seeming size. The seats are easy to remove and reinstall if we need to haul something to the dump or pick up something big from the home repair store.

It Is Great for the Most Part.
For the most part we love our Odyssey. It is now five years old and showing signs of its age. Also, our "CarDoc" is going to end next month, which will mean we will have to pay for all repairs and maintenance. It is making more rattle like noises and sometimes there is a hint that some of the electronics (like windows) might give us headaches in the near future. Also, one of the electronic side doors has had difficulty closing automatically. But, we love the in car video for our Grandkids, both the automatic side doors, and, especially the back up camera for safety.

I love my odyssey - highly recommend.
The odyssey has been a terrific car. My 2013 had a rear camera added and I use it all the time. However, there are two serious blind spots... Now that I know about them they're not a problem but the first time I missed a car it really panicked me. It is very spacious - we have three children and they all fit very well with space for a few friends. We've taken it on week-long vacations and had no problems fitting in all of the luggage. It is been very reliable, and I have kept up with the maintenance on it. My only complaints are with the dashboard - my phone got disconnected somehow - and the USB can be flaky and not pick up the signal from my phone. Overall I have been very happy with the odyssey and I am likely to buy another one when I am done with this one.

The speakers a bose, which means that the sound is awesome. The seats are very comfortable and lay back with plenty of room for feet. There is also a cooler in the front of the van it can keep items cold. It also has a great navigation system with the screen in the dashboard which is also used to present the rearview cam.

Great for families! It is super easy for passengers to get in and out.
Very roomy and comfortable for families decent gas mileage, easy to drive. Truck space is great and seats fold down easily to transport large items. It is loud, however, I have to take business calls on the road sometimes (hands free) and freeway noise comes through. Our model has manual side doors, which works for my children because they are older (10&12) but for younger children; automatic doors would be ideal. I would definitely purchase the odyssey again for a young family.

It fits up to 8 people without feeling crowded, gets awesome gas mileage, speakers sound great, air flow is great, the ability to lay the third row down and remove the middle seating is nice also, and the sun shades in the middle row are also a plus. The ride is smooth and maintenance has been easy. Love it.

Honda usually have an excellent track record, so even with higher mileage, it still functions like new.
It rides very smooth, has a DVD player so that keeps my nephews entertained. Excellent on gas consumption. Is a V6 so it has decent power when needed on hills and mountains.

Rear entertainment console is great!
This is the first van that I've ever owned. I really like the space that it provides. I like how I can change the configuration of the seats in the back two rows. The rear entertainment system is very nice with 4 kids. I don't like that it's difficult to control the menu of the DVD system from the driver's seat though. The back up camera is very helpful, especially when learning to drive something so long!

Second row slide to the sides to create more space.
Our Honda odyssey has been the perfect vehicle for our family. The van is spacious and versatile. We use it as the main vehicle for our family of five. We can easily install 3 car seats with plenty of space for two adults and our dog’s kennel. I love how the third row folds back into the floorboards when not in use, creating a flat cargo space. My only complaint that I have had regarding this vehicle is that the “low fuel” indicator is a very small light and does not make a sound to notify you that the fuel is low. That is how amazing this car is—my major complaint is a very small issue.

Lots of room for people and stuff!
I really like my Honda Odyssey. It has room for everyone in my family. We can travel comfortably in our Honda minivan. It is easy to drive and I like the sound system as well. I will say that I wish I got better gas mileage but with a car that can drive 8 people around, it does pretty good.

Lovely car, 10/10 would recommend to a friend.
Drives awesome! I love it, and will probably buy a newer model when I feel this one is on its last leg, which won't be anytime soon! It gets lovely gas mileage! And is very safe and reliable, my daughter who is a new driver, loves it as well. Recommend it to everyone!

Honda odyssey- good for families.
This car has been great for my family of five. We have been on countless road trips and it has plenty of space for everyone. We haven't had any major car issues in terms of repairs. It is relatively comfortable, and good for larger families. Seats are removable and the trunk is extendable.

Greatest vehicle ever purchased!!
I love the Honda odyssey! It features lots of room, the DVD player for my grandchildren, very accessible for children and older adults to get in and out of!! I prefer the leather seats over cloth seats which is easy to keep clean. I have a sunroof, which is so nice in the spring and fall to have open.

Odyssey is the best van for families.
The odyssey is great for our large family, everyone can fit comfortably. I love the way that it drives more like a car than a minivan and the gas mileage is great. It is very easy and convenient to fold the back seats down when I need transport things like cases of girl scout cookies.

The most important thing I want others to know about my car is how many people it can carry. It can hold a lot of people in it AND have breathing rooms for people.
I really like the fact that the car is very versatile. The trunk of the car can be either turned into a very big storage area where you can store stuff to move, or it can be turned extra seats for friends and family to sit on. I also got the car for a really good price and it's still in prime condition to this day.

Great car except for brakes.
Brakes replaced twice so far in last three years. The older the vehicle gets it tends to cost more to repair. After brake replacement on high speed when braking the steering wanders left to right and after the speed has come below 50 mph it smoothes out.
