Alex Showalter
Jan 19, 2023

The 2019 Honda Odyssey lasts around 250,000 miles with some stereo system software and sensor issues. At $28,350 to $44,760, it’s a decent value for a dependable minivan with a lot of advanced features for the money.

likeFilled The Good
The suspension is very smooth, it has the latest entertainment & safety technology and a quiet cabin.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The transmission is clunky while changing gears, it’s hard to remove the second row seats and there’s no 360-degree camera.

Is the 2019 Honda Odyssey a Good Used Minivan?

  • Overall Rating 8/10 – 2019 is a good year for the Honda Odyssey since it’s reliable with some great technology, giving it a high overall score. Owner reviews praise the passenger room, low ownership costs, as well as the comfortable seats.
  • Interior, Comfort & Cargo 8/10 – Interior materials are very nice for a minivan, the seats are reasonably comfortable, cargo space is also fantastic.

  • Value 8/10 – The 2019 Honda Odyssey is more expensive than other minivans, although slow depreciation makes it a good value.

This car checks all the boxes!
I love this car. The seats are easy to adjust for car seats. I like the connectivity to my phone and being able to use all the applications. The trunk area can hold my double stroller plus a ton of groceries. My kids like having the sun shades in the back seats. I also really love that there is a thermostat for the back and the front of the van.

We love the sliding seats!
We love our odyssey. My favorite feature is the sliding seats in the middle row. With the removal of the middle seat in the middle row I can slide the two other seats easily to access my child in the back. This is great for families with children in rear facing car seats, since they usually block the path to the back. I also love that I can open the sliding doors using my keys. Makes it easier to get kids in the car on cold days.

The car is very adjustable and has changeable seats so it is easy to adapt to your family.
I love all the outlets there are so many!! The vehicle is slightly wider which makes it hard to back into a garage. Honestly the car is a pleasant luxury experience. I love how modern these cars have gotten!

The Honda odyssey is really spacious.
I love my car as it is a 8 seater vehicle. It fits a big family. It is perfect to drive around. I live the system it comes equipped with. It has a TV system so kids are forever entertained. It has the navigation so you are never lost. It has Bluetooth connectivity as well. It gives me good control while driving. It has a big tank so you do not need to keep worrying about refueling all the time plus it gives a good average.

Best family friendly vehicle.
My 2019 Honda odyssey is by far the best vehicle I have owned. We haven't had any issues. The magic sliding seats are life changing and the car seat seating arrangement is amazing. It gets really good gas mileage considering it is size. The cargo space is great, even when the third row seating is up.

Don't buy any other minivan besides a Honda!
I love my Honda van, it fits our needs and is safe and reliable. Although they are not the cheapest minivan's the are the best for you and your family. Honda financial is very honest and will work with you, in your time of need. If my family and I needed a new vehicle today. We would be going back to Honda.
accountCircle Gerise N
It has sliding doors, it is black and it has 3 rows of seats.
It is really good. Sometimes the doors to the minivan will not close but that has only happened 2 times. We have used it for a cross country trip and it worked really well. I like that it is big so we can fit lots of stuff in it. In conclusion I think that this is my favorite car I have ever had.

Love my odyssey! 2nd one I have owned!
No problems other than low air in a tire occasionally. Definitely very comfortable! Love the backup camera, heated seats. A lot of room to haul a lot of stuff. Nothing I do not like about my odyssey! My 2nd one! Miss the CD player. Gets great gas mileage (22-26 mpg).

Disappointed repeat customer.
The performance in this vehicle is terrible transmission changes gears very rough. The air conditioner runs hot when car is sitting still, for example if I am sitting in traffic. I have had several mechanical problems a with this vehicle. The backup camera malfunctioned and stopped working because the cables were loose on a brand new car.

Horrible van!
I wished I could give this 0 stars!! This van has been the worst vehicle I have ever owned. We have the 2019 Elite that we purchased for the RES and cabin watch since we have a 6 year old and newborn twins. The cabin watch was really important to us to keep an eye on the babies. Needless to say neither of them work even for a short trip. I have had it at the dealership 4 different times and it is still not working.

Wouldn’t pass smog check
I have a 2019 Honda Odyssey EX and in my state of Nevada we have the yearly smog check and it’s my second year to do the smog check before you can register your vehicle. OMG my vehicle would not pass smog so I took out my OBD to check it and guess what it was on yellow meaning something wrong my OBD flashing and showing the EVAC and EGR problem I’m so disappointed a new car with this problem ???

Electric problem.
The engine wouldn't start on the third day, so I had to tow it to a nearest dealer. It would crank, but would not turn over. Make sure you park the back end in first, because it's a front wheel drive, so the towing company had to drag it out before they could hook up the front end. The dealership couldn't figure out the problem, but somehow they had the car running. Within 15 minutes, while I was back parking, gear shifted out to neutral by itself, then wouldn't shift back into any other position. When I turned the car off, the car wouldn't start again in the middle of the parking lot. It took me good 10 minutes, try after try to get the car running again. This was first time I ever had a problem with Honda vehicle. Now, I'm afraid to drive the van not knowing when it would not start again.

Yes, we like our vehicle, but we hate the GPS system.
The GPS system is impossible to use, as there are no instructions in the car manual.(we have learned this is a separate piece of written information that car buyers do not receive. Otherwise we like the car, report this to Honda please, we have. The car screen for the GPS/navigation is black and everytime we touch it fingerprints are left, giving a very ugly screen.

I want my 2007 Odyssey back.
It has been 2 years and I still wish I had my 2007 Odyssey. Kicking myself for having traded it in. The only thing I like better about the 2019 is the safety features, which is why I purchased a newer vehicle. The storage is horrendous. So much of it was removed and the person who designed the center console should be fired. I have also had more trouble with this van. It lurches when putting into gear. I have been told it is normal. The stereo system has finally gotten recalled. This is my second Honda minivan. It is my fourth Honda vehicle and very well may be my last. So incredibly disappointed.

Things I do not like about my current vehicle. Why I will not get another,
Drive is not as smooth as others I have owned. Does have reverse camera which is a much desired benefit. It has shaky steering... Which means I have to grip the steering wheel to keep the vehicle in the correct lane. The tailgate is harder to open and harder to close than the 2016 I had previously.

My problem is tailgate hight, every time I'm taking something out of the trunk i bang my head, and I'm not a tall guy by any means.i reached out to mydealership and they said nothing can be done about it .my 2012 odyssey wasperfectly fine ,but the 2019 odyssey is disaster. I'll never buy honda again .

What Do Critics Say About the Honda Odyssey?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Honda Odyssey offers a lot of pleasant features for the money, with good owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Odyssey at 3.6/5, praising the modern safety and technology features, but doesn’t like the lack of power-folding third row seats.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Odyssey a 3.6/5, enjoying the spacious cabin, but owners don’t like the lower fuel efficiency.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Honda Odyssey Have?

Common problems found on the 2019 Honda Odyssey include the entertainment system freezing, an emissions warning light on the dash, as well as water leaking into the cabin. Overall, these problems are fairly similar to other minivans, with more affordable repair costs as they age.

The entertainment system freezing is the most widespread complaint from 2019 Odyssey owners at around 5,000 miles. There are software updates available for the stereo system which improves its reliability. Most dealerships will install the updates for free, while some charge around $50.

An emissions warning light on the dash has also been mentioned by some 2019 Honda Odyssey owners at around 60,000 miles. Usually the most likely source is a failed O2 sensor on the exhaust, which is around $250 to replace. There are also rare reports of a leaking fuel injector, which can cost over $800 to swap out.

Water leaking into the cabin also shows up on some Odyssey models in the first 3,000 miles. Typically, when water leaks into the cabin it’s a sign of a clogged or damaged drain line from the sunroof, or a bad gasket on the roof. Clearing out the drain line costs around $100, and replacing a gasket costs $450. If the issue shows up with so few miles, it may be covered under warranty.

There are 13 recalls on the 2019 Honda Odyssey, which is significantly more than other minivans from the same year. The most serious recall covers the low pressure fuel pump, which may fail. Honda will replace the fuel pump assembly on affected models for free. It helps to contact Honda customer service to confirm the availability of parts. Another important recall is for the fuel tank charcoal canister. Honda will have a new fuel tank assembly installed in affected models for free. Many of the other recalls covered rearview camera and instrument panel software.

How Long Will the 2019 Honda Odyssey Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Honda Odyssey can last around 250,000 miles, which is only slightly shorter than the top-rated Toyota Sienna. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other minivans according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $390 per year.

As a used 2019 Honda Odyssey reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the A/C condenser for $600, engine coolant temperature sensor costing $445, as well as the strut bearings which cost $400.

Yes. It is very reliable. We have not had any problems and do not anticipate any coming soon. We have driven it several times long distances and have nothing but positive things from it.

No problems except for headlights. I would also prefer that the cruise control didn't slow you down automatically. It slows down way too soon.

Currently it does not have any problems. However, it is brand new. I do not expect any issues, but there is the possibility of this with any new car.

accountCircle Lynn I

I haven't had any issue with my Honda Odyssey. This is my 2nd Honda Odyssey and I doubt it will be my last

accountCircle Debbie P

So far it has been reliable and has not had any problems. It has had no mechanical or electrical issues and we have taken it on multiple long trips in the short time we have owned it.

accountCircle Karen S

The car is reliable and does not have any problems. I have not had any problems with this vehicle at all this year

accountCircle Victor R

Mine has been very reliable, and I have not had any problems with it yet. There are a few features I miss from my old ones that this one does not have, but overall this is the best one I've had yet.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is good with a standard 5-inch central display screen on the LX model. On the EX model and higher, you get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

Safety technology is also decent with a standard rearview camera. Optional advanced safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, automatic high beam headlights, along with front and rear parking sensors.

Is the 2019 Honda Odyssey a Good Value?

The Toyota Sienna is another popular minivan which is about $1,500 more expensive. Standard safety technology on the base model is better in the Toyota Sienna, while the Honda Odyssey has some slightly nicer seats. We recommend the Toyota Sienna since it lasts longer, although both are fantastic minivans.

The Chrysler Pacifica is a competitor available for around $3,000 less. Interior materials are more luxurious in the Chrysler Pacifica, while the Honda Odyssey has better reliability ratings. We recommend the Honda Odyssey since they are more affordable to own long-term.

This is a great family van.
My favorite feature of this van is the middle row capabilities. Having three boys under five, it is super easy to just slide the seat over to get to the third row. Even with the third row up, there’s plenty of trunk room too which is nice. The only issue I have had so far was a recall and quickly fixed.

Love this van, all around great buy.
Love the drive! It is so smooth and feels really sturdy. There's tons of space and a huge trunk. And I really like that there is a back window windshield wiper. The middle seat is removable which is really great because when we do not need it we take it out and have more room to climb over to the back seat of the van.

Lots of space for a growing family and tons of trunk room.
I definitely notices some problems with the new version of the Honda odyssey. In the backseat, the air vents are placed in the middle of the side of the car as opposed to on top. Because of this, if you have a rear facing child, they cannot feel the air. That feature is terrible. Also the car accelerates very slowly.

One great ride. My car review.
Car handles extremely well. There is a great pickup on the highway, not like the drag you sometimes feel with other cars. The audio quality is crystal clear, the steering is sensitive and helps the car act as an extension to my hands. The power doors make loading and unloading my kids a breeze. The backup camera is hi res and uses grids to guide the vehicle into a safe park, even on the most congested city streets.

Nice family oriented safe van.
The 2019 Honda odyssey seats 8 people. Even with 3 regular size car seats. It have apple play and you can hook up either Bluetooth or with a cord connection. Your back seat can go into the trunk seamlessly which create more room for large objects. It even have a hook in the car to hang a bag. Kid friendly and very safe. You have driver assistance. Car beep if you switching lane and a car is in your blind spot. Have backup cameras and lane assistance. Example if you going over the line it will try to get you back into your lane. Love it... The Honda odyssey is the perfect mama minivan.
I am obsessed with my mama minivan! My favorite is the sliding seats in the middle row. I am able to relocate kids in car seats so easily so that my oldest can quickly scoot to the back seat. I also love the safety features, which are top of the line. The rear navigation system is wonderful for small kids on long car rides, and I love how easily I can entertain myself with the apple CarPlay while they watch cartoon DVDs. Minivans are the best and safest car for families!
The car is extremely comfortable and roomy! Love the space in the car and options of putting down the seats in both the 2nd and 3rd row! As well as having it be an 8 passenger car or a 7. The car for a minivan is very tech savvy with all of the features including apple carplay. The car is also very safe and I love the backup camera feature and the automatic brakes.
accountCircle Rhonda T on April 14, 2021
Apple car play allows maximum convenience.
I really enjoy the apple car play feature. It allows me to use navigation through my phone, on the screen of the van, with ease while still listening to music and receiving calls. I miss the blind spot camera that was available on my 2016 odyssey. I also find the a/c takes time to cool down. The fact that the middle row seats can slide side to side is a convenient feature for a busy family and fills versatile needs. The void area between the front 2 seats under the console seems like wasted space. The drive shift feature of the van is annoying and the paddles on the steering wheel can be easily hit accidentally putting the vehicle into manual shift mode. I have 2 younger drivers in the household and wish this feature could be disabled. The power moonroof is a feature my family often enjoys to allow additional air movement overall, I enjoy the quality and reliability that comes with owning a Honda.

Great family vehicle with a few hiccups.
The interior features of this vehicle is great. We have 4 kids and we do frequent road trips with plenty of space and comfort. The only downfall we’ve had was a problem with the rear entertainment system that required a replacement and this vehicle has had a ton of recalls. This has been an inconvenience to frequently bring into the dealership. We also discovered that Honda’s require you to take the vehicle into the dealership for battery changes as they make the battery near impossible to access. Overall we do like the vehicle though.

Nothing but problems with rear entertainment system.
We bought the odyssey with the rear entertainment package because we have three kids and we have had nothing but problems. The screen sometimes goes black, yet we can still hear the audio. Recently, the entertainment system wouldn't work and all we could hear was static, so we completely turned it off and we could still hear static and had to listen to it for the rest of our trip. Sometimes, the audio does not work at all and we get an error message on the main screen. I have taken my van in 4 times and still have issues.

This van is very reliable on all different trip lengths. It has good handling and it is a very comfortable ride. There is plenty of storage space and still roomy enough for 4-5 people. Honda is very good about notifying you for updates or recalls that are needed. There is a bit of wind noise over 75 but could be from rain guards installed on van.

The seats are extremely comfortable for long car rides. It is a quiet ride. I feel very safe in it for me and my children. I love all the safety features. It is great for littles because you can lock the windows or doors. The entertainment system can be controlled from the front easily. The kids are entertained and can put their headphones on so it is quiet for the adults or if the adults would like to listen to something else. The adult can talk to the child in their headphones through a click of a button. Navigation system is easy to handle and you can save your favorite or most frequent locations. It also predicts your habits. It has cruise control, lane assist, and self driving to help you on the road. We really enjoy how you can continue to reconfigure the seats and slide them over or collapse them for more storage. You can even take the middle seat out. We have definitely never lacked for storage space in this vehicle. The amount of cup holders is astounding. Since both me and my husband use this vehicle, it is great that it recognizes our seat configuration based on which key is getting into the car or by a click of a button. It auto locks when I leave or unlocks when I return when my hands are full. I would recommend this vehicle as my top pick for any family with kids.

Fit the whole family comfortably!
The Honda odyssey is amazing. It is the perfect, economical family vehicle. The vehicle easily fits the whole family, dogs included, and is perfect for a comfortable road trip. If need be, you can remove the seats and use the back as a bed using a full size mattress. The only problems we have experienced have been 1. The computer system failed and required a hard reset (unplugging the car battery). 2. Three recalls within a year.

The fact that it is not an automatic and some of the technology has problems.
The vehicle itself is an overall ok car. It is not an automatic and the computer system lacks in organization. It is a bit confusing at first and sometimes has technical issues. Other than that it is a reliable car. With a smooth drive. It is also very spacious and you can hide the seats in the back underneath. But if you're used to an automatic car with cameras on either side of the mirror I would suggest upgrading. Because again although it is a reliable car it is still lacks in the technology. Like we could of just stuck with our old mold the lx 2014.

Good quality family vehicle.
My Honda odyssey drives very smoothly and handles more like a smaller vehicle than like one as big as it is. I also know from getting into a car accident years ago with a previous odyssey that the passengers do well inside the vehicle. The gas mileage is better than my last SUV so I am happily saving a little at the pump. I also like that there are 4 sets of car seat anchors. This helps since I have 3 kids still in car seats. If I could change one thing, it would be to add the ability to turn on 4-wheel drive for when it is icy, snowy, or rain slick out as a standard feature of the vehicle.

Space and Comfort. The Honda Odyssey gives you both.
We love our van. It is comfortable inside and out. There is plenty of room for not only our family of 5, but we can easily fit their friends as well. I highly recommend the Honda Odyssey.

A lovely little vehicle with lots of use.
I do not drive our van very often, but it is very nice. It is a minivan that steers and maneuvers more like a sedan, and not even a particularly large one. The center console is enormous. The gauges are large and easy to read at a glance, even if you are not particularly familiar with them. It is very quiet, both inside and out.
accountCircle Gerise N on February 20, 2021
It has sliding doors, it is black and it has 3 rows of seats.
It is really good. Sometimes the doors to the minivan will not close but that has only happened 2 times. We have used it for a cross country trip and it worked really well. I like that it is big so we can fit lots of stuff in it. In conclusion I think that this is my favorite car I have ever had.

We absolutely love all of the space in our van!
I love my Honda odyssey. It is very convenient and spacious for families with small kids. Easy to get in and out of both for adults and kids. We are able to fit a stroller plus tons of baggage. I do wish we had TVs in the headrests of the front seats though. Lots of legroom in the 3rd row.

Magic glide seats are the coolest thing.
The space is amazing for our family. Love the navigation screen display. The van has apple carplay which is one of reasons we went with it. It is a very smooth ride, and sliding doors are a must with young kids. The magic glide seats are very useful getting people in and out of van.

The Honda odyssey is built with families and safety in mind!
I like the middle bucket seats can move side to side, the back row seats will fold flat into the storage compartment, and the heated seats in the front. The backup camera has a great picture, and the side sensors are really helpful for the minimal blind spots toward the back corners of the van.

Amazing for larger families.
Problems: 2019 Honda odyssey - electronics have malfunctioned quite a bit. It has stopped in the middle of the street while stopping at a red light and wouldn't start when it turned green for about 2 minutes. We've taken it in several times for recalls. Performance: aside from the terrifying incident of shutting off, it is overall performance has been good. We truly love it. Reliability: it has been very reliable. Honda is known for its reliability. We haven't had it long enough, but we are unsure if it will be as reliable as the older Hondas. We do have a very good warranty plan though. Comfort and features: it was the comfort and features that made us choose the Honda odyssey. Most important for me was the cabin view. We purchased it right before I had my second child and being able to see a newborn in the backseat while driving was so important to us.

Honda odyssey is a great family vehicle.
So far the odyssey has met all of our needs. It has tons of room and the doors slide open and makes it very easy to get small kids in the car. It is very reliable and comfortable. It is such a great vehicle for families with kids of any age. We absolutely love our odyssey.

This is a great car to buy!
I cannot think of many problems with the car. There have been a few issues over the time but none that were too big. I think that it is a great car especially if you have a big family or need to move. It is has been very helpful to have a bigger car for various purposes.

It has amazing camera detection. I didn't know when I bought it but there's indicators that show cars in your blind spots, little bells go off when you get too close, etc. Also, the seats can be adjusted and saved for two people !
I love how much room is in my vehicle - I can fit my two kids and all of their stuff ! I like all the features but dislike how hard it is to park sometimes. I wish there were front and side cameras that I could see.

Complete family vehicle!
The odyssey is the total family car. Great for young families with car seats and plenty of room for all the stuff that goes along with kids. The safety features such as lane departure, back up camera and sensors are a major benefit in today's world. The car also has Apple carplay which is wonderful feature. Overall the odyssey is my favorite vehicle I have owned and that includes 3 previous Lexus vehicles.

Busy family friendly, kid approved.
This minivan has several features that makes riding in it very pleasant. First off, the rear entertainment system is a lifesaver with restless kids on a long drive, or even just while running multiple errands around town. The large display screen up front is very convenient for quick glances while driving. I also really enjoy the heated/cooling options for the seats.

It's safe. A little hard to drive a lot of buttons.
I love all the safety features, dislike how small the DVD screen is

2019 Honda Odyssey - FUN to Drive
We purchased our vehicle in November, 2018. It has been very reliable, has all the latest safety features, has an 8 passenger capacity, easy third-row seating access, plenty of cargo space. It is actually fun to drive, very comfortable on extended trips and gets excellent fuel economy. On a recent trip I actually hit 33.2mpg at highway speeds (75 mph) for over 400 miles! I would recommend the Honda Odyssey EX-L to anyone looking for an economical, fun to drive, multi-passenger capacity minivan.

Honda van is the best car I have ever driven!
This is the best car I have driven. I have been a long time Honda fan, but my van is the best. It is very easy to transport my kids and all of their stuff. The ride is very smooth. I recommend this car to anyone with a family. I find the interior to be easily cleaned with kids and all of their messes. I also love the apple carplay feature! I do not think I could live without that now.

Comfort plus high tech capability.
Love this car, especially for long trips, seats are comfortable, just drove from TX to ga and back nice to have separate headgear for movie in the back but in the front we could listen to radio. Great gas mileage. Separate rear climate control, and camera to see what’s going on in the rear seats. Plenty of plugs to recharge phones, iPads etc.

Great family vehicle with loads of space.
My odyssey is a fantastic, roomy, stylish and practical vehicle. We have a large family, so going out somewhere was a chore before we got this van. Everyone fits comfortably and everyone’s bags easily fit in the spacious trunk. There are loads of cup holders and slots/pouches for everyone’s things. Air vents in the far back give the kids back there plenty of air or heat so everyone stays comfortable!

Love my Honda odyssey! It is the only one for me.
I live my van! It is the third one I have had, I do a three year lease. The only thing that does not click all the time is the iPhone charging and connecting to hands free. I probably just need to update the technology. Honda has a great product, I have always had acura’s or Honda’s.

Gray van with lots of storage and is nice.
Runs good with a smooth ride. Nice color, nice steering wheel, good radio, good air conditioner and heater. Nice rear view mirror. It has four tires and one gas tank. It can carry a lot of stuff. Has power steering and brakes. The gear shift is a bunch of buttons.

Awesome ride even though it a minivan it great ride. I enjoy it a lot.
It comfortable to ride don't here a lot of outside noise.Very room inside it 8 passenger. Around town I get 20 miles a gal on highway about 29. The dual heat work great cause I am always chilly and my husband is always hot. The control screen is very easy to use we like the new interactive screen.

It is a cool design and looks very sporty.
I love my vehicle. It is so spacious and comfy interior. It has 3 rows and plenty of room for adults in the 3rd row. It gets really good gas mileage and is easy to drive. It has a heated steering wheel that is great for the winter times. It also has heated and cooled seats which are nice depending on the weather.

Great sports family vehicle.
The Honda odyssey is a great family car. So easy for the kids to get in and out of and super roomy. For a van the motor is very responsive and is fun to drive. The infotainment system is easy to use and the sound system is awesome. The only negative I have with it is the gas mileage is not the greatest.
