I love the size and how it drives.
Comfortable. If you treat it good i'll treat you good. I love the third row seating. Good seating for kids. Third row seating folds down if need extra room. Problem so far is the sunroof gets clogged and needs cleaned out or water will leak into the front onto the floor front passenger and driver side. It's a good ride.

Why I Love my Commander, in short
2wd with 5.7 engine, no problems... Absolutely love it! Tows great and plenty of room for the whole family with 3rd row seating and the DVD player keeps the kids occupied on road trips. No leaks from sunroof and tow package is awesome! Will buy again!

Decently sized, quality SUV
I would have to say this is a great car and I love it! The car is a reasonably sized SUV. You'll never have to feel cramped in this car. The towing capability is also a plus for me. Unfortunately the gas mileage is not the greatest but I still think this is a great car. I can't imagine having any other type of SUV.

Why I'm in love with the 2008 jeep commander
Out of all the vehicles I've owned I absolutely love the 08 jeep commander ! It's very good on gas, has lots of space inside the cabin. It also has a 350 hp v8 engine. And if you love mudding. I can tell you from experience your going to have an absolute blast with the 2008 commander

2008 jeep commander limited edition great buy.
I own a silver 2008 jeep commander limited edition with towing package including. I bought it brand new off the sales floor at the dealership in 2009. I absolutely love my vehicle. It is able to fit up to seven passengers. It is has stadium style seating so everyone can see over the row in front of them. The interior is jet black, that includes the cloth seating, the floor carpeting and floor mats, and the trim. The console area and gear shift area are a mix of black and silver. I have had no problems with my vehicle in the last ten years. It is been very dependable, reliable, comfortable, and still looks great inside and out. There's been two recalls that were minor, one to reset the airbag and the second to change the key sensor, they were both same day fixes. Originally when I went to the dealership I had it in my mind that I was going to buy a minivan. I have five children plus my husband so we needed a seven passenger. When I walked into the sales floor, I saw the jeep and couldn't help but look at all it is features, the ac control in the rear seating area, the ability to fully lay down all the back seats, the rear glass window opener if needed instead of opening the full tailgate, the driver power seat, cruise control, mp3 connector, the second row in seat pull out drink holder, and spacious leg room for backseat passengers. I was able to get this vehicle at a steal of a price because it was an 08 and it was already 09, so they wanted it gone. This was the best but of a vehicle ever. I currently have over 150,000 miles on it and it drives beautifully.

Great fit for a large family
I really haven't had any problems with my Jeep Commander. I love that it has 3rd row seating and is large enough for my family. The only downside is I wish the truck was bigger, it is a little on the smaller side and it takes a lot to fill up the gas tank.

My Jeep, my black beauty!
I really enjoy the size of my vehicle, it hauls a lot of items and it's a good family car. The car has had a few problems, but nothing too hard to fix.

Jeep commander the off-road family wagon.
This had really good power and features drives excellent on the highway as well as getting fair gas mileage, but this vehicle has been plagued with overheating problems. I've changed the water pump, radiator, thermostat and hoses before fixing the problem. This vehicle also has clock spring related issues which is not an easy fix. Although it has a lot of problems when it drives is a fun car to have.

It gets me where I need to go.
It burns a lot of gas. Multiple problems since purchase. Does not have good gas mileage. Not comfortable for long trips.

Bad motor, Bad transmission, not reliable, gas guzzler, rough rider
I bought it almost brand new off of the lot and a week later, I had to replace the motor. It ran alright for about 2 months and then the starter started going out, had to replace that. I replaced all of the spark plugs and coil pack when it started sputtering and not accelerating and that helped for about two months. Now my transmission is going out and running hot. I honestly wish I would have never bought this car. I've put more money into it than what I paid for it. If you would to waste your money on a semi decent car, this one's for you!

My vehicle can seat up to 7 people.
The size of the vehicle I love. I also like that the vehicle has the ability to be able to tow a trailer if needed. I dislike the low gas mileage the car receives.

Jeep Commander is OK. Make sure to check for leaks.
I like my Jeep Commander but have had a few problems. The ignition and key fobs have been replaced but still doesn't always start the first try. The back seats are worthless but otherwise it gets me around just fine and it's paid off. I recommend as a decent, inexpensive used vehicle.
accountCircle Whitney O
Most interesting detail is my vehicle is black and interior.
Vehicle is decent, however it stops out of nowhere sometimes and will not crank. Great size for a family car and it drives smooth.
accountCircle ADAM B
The Jeep Commander has lots of room and a third row that is easy to put up and down.
I like that the Jeep Commander has three rows and can fit my entire family. I dislike the door handles as they are awkward and break. I also had trouble with the Jeep not starting every time when I first bought it used.

My review is based on engine performance
I have a v6 which makes acceleration sluggish. I would suggest opting for a model with a v8, I think you will get better performance all around.

Jeep commander 2008 wire issue
Vehicle had previous problems when my dad was driving it before giving it to me. Some issue with the starter where you have to tap on a wire under the vehicle to start it, there is a video on YouTube that explains where location is. Other than that haven't had too many big issues with the car.
accountCircle Ava B on March 10, 2021
It is larger than you think.
I have had issues with the alternator and tire pressure gauge but I assume that is from the age and mileage of the car. I feel safe in this car. It is also easy to maneuver and very spacious.

Pros from Owners

likeFilled Jean P.

This is a great vehicle. It handles nicely on the road, especially around curves. It is well built, dependable and a great design. It is an all wheel drive and handles excellently in snowy and icy conditions. There is plenty of room for cargo and the second row of seating is stadium style. This is nice for passengers.

likeFilled Hannah B.

It is a great vehicle, drives well, has a 4 wheel drive option, good gas mileage, does really well in the cold, snow and ice, it works well with kids. Some of the only cons I can think of is that the seat warmers do not stay on when you turn off the vehicle and my make does not have much room in the trunk area when you flip up the back seats. Other than that I love this car and plan to use it as long as I can.

likeFilled Sherri W.

It is all wheel drive, has a sunroof and seats 8, has mini sunroofs above second row of seats with a built in DVD/TV player. I cannot think of anything that is a con at the moment. Both sets of seats lay down, there is a control in the back for heat and air conditioning. It has a pull down middle space to hold drinks, seat warmers and separate controls for the front seats and it is all electric.

likeFilled Crystal I.

It has three row seating and it has lots of airbags. Rear temperature control in the third row. Moon roof and smaller roof windows in middle row. Four wheel drive and can shift gears even though there's no clutch.

Cons from Owners

dislikeFilled Jean P.

If there are any cons, it would be side leg room on the drivers side. It seems a little tight for men. (Not to bad for women.) The whole passenger compartment could feel just a bit larger, but other than that, nothing.

dislikeFilled Hannah B.

Seat warmers do not stay on when car is turned off and the trunk is too small when back seats are flipped up. Still an awesome vehicle, it works great for road trips and a growing family, I wish they still made this vehicle.

dislikeFilled Sherri W.

I cannot think of any at the moment. I cannot think of anything else, I love it! I cannot believe how well it handles when I drive it in the snow. It tows a trailer with a side by side on it with no problems. I am having a hard time connecting to the Bluetooth phone system. Unable to get it done.

dislikeFilled Crystal I.

Very big so it is hard to park in small spaces. Mine came with the smaller motor so it does not have as much power as some of them. There is not any trunk space if you are using the third row. You can fold down the seats and use the back two rows of you need to haul something.

Is The 2008 Jeep Commander A Good Car?

Yes it is a good car and very reliable for day to day use. But it gets bad gas mileage. That is the only thing I would change.

It is large enough to haul a lot of stuff and heavy enough to be reliable in snow. But it only gets 11-14 miles per gallon and is top heavy.

How Reliable Is The 2008 Jeep Commander?

It is reliable but gets bad gas mileage. The inside is nice and it works well for how much I drive it.
Jessica L.
We have had this vehicle for eleven years now and I cannot remember any major problems at all. Just normal things you would expect from any vehicle.

It has had the transmission on for the last 7 years, but no one can say why. Also, the airbag for the front passenger seat seems to have a loose connection and the light tends to flicker on and off... Read More

It is reliable. Since we bought it 2 years ago we have had no problems. We have had maintenance. Oil changes, new tires, brakes, rotates, etc.

There is a recall on it but other than that it's a great car is very reliable. No mechanical problems.

Is The 2008 Jeep Commander A Good Value?

It cost me $10,000 which was a little high in my opinion. It is older and I also spend a lot on gas. Also all of the speakers are blown.

When we purchased this car new it cost around $28,000. I'd say this was a great value as we have had this vehicle for 11 years now. The unfortunate thing is they no longer make the commander. That is... Read More

It was expensive. I believe $30,000 or more and the parts can be expensive, but I believe it has been well worth the money.

It depends on where you buy it. We got our 2008 Jeep commander with under 90,000 miles for under 12,000. I think that’s a very good deal and find!
Darlene G.
We bought it used so we paid 8,000. I thought I got my money's worth. Would like to get a brand new one soon.
