Alex Showalter
Feb 7, 2023

The 2019 Jeep Compass lasts around 175,000 miles with some engine sensor and oil pressure issues reported. At $17,499 to $28,865, it’s a decent value for shoppers on a budget, even if it’s not the best SUV on the market.

likeFilled The Good
There’s a good amount of passenger room for its size, interior materials are well-made, and the stereo system has great features.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The nine-speed transmission is sluggish, there’s not a lot of cargo space and the engine is fairly weak.

Is the 2019 Jeep Compass a Good Used SUV?

  • Overall Rating 7/10 – 2019 is a good year for the Jeep Compass, although it’s just a mediocre SUV compared to other options on the market. Owner reviews praise the 4-wheel drive system, fuel economy, along with the stereo system.
  • Interior, Comfort & Cargo 7/10 – Interior materials are relatively nice, the front seats offer decent comfort, although cargo space is lower than other SUVs.

  • Value 7/10 – The 2019 Jeep Compass is cheaper than many other small SUVs, although it also loses value quickly.

This is the best car that I've driven
I absolutely love my car. I haven't had any issues with it at all. I love the heated seats and heated steering wheel. The ride is very smooth and I never get car sick like I used too. My car is extremely reliable and I couldn't ask for a better vehicle.

Jeep Compass offers great technology
This vehicle is a perfect small and simple SUV. I really enjoy the technological features that it has to offer such as CarPlay and Bluetooth. It is easy to navigate and the technology is user-friendly. Drives great and I would definitely get another one in the future.

2019 Jeep Compass- Perfect Size SUV
I like my new Jeep Compass because it offers a comfortable ride and is a decent size, not too big and not too small. I like that I can fold the back seats down for extra storage when needed. My Jeep has a heated steering wheel which may seem unnecessary but is really nice when it is rainy and cold outside. My kids love our new Jeep as well.

It drives very smoothly, super fast, but safe.
We've had our 2019 Jeep Compass for a few weeks now and it is absolutely amazing. I don't have any complaints about it besides it has a fuel safety feature that shuts off the engine when you come to a complete stop. There is a button you can push to turn this off but you have to turn it on every time you turn the car on. Other than that, it's a great family car, super reliable and easy to drive. We recommend it for sure.

This vehicle is great! I would highly recommend the vehicle to small families
I have a Jeep Cherokee and I love it! I have no bad words to say about this vehicle. It's been great since the purchase and has met all expectations! It's perfect for a small family and it's definitely a smooth ride! I would highly recto those who have a family of 5 or below to purchase this vehicle!

It does the job and I like driving it
I don't love the pickup on the car so it's not a great contender for going fast, quickly, but it gets the job done. It's a good looking car and a reliable one so far. Pretty good on gas and the interior is really nice. The price was also right. All in all, I'm happy with my choice.

Sharp turns are no match for my Jeep Compass!
The vehicle is very comfortable and spacious enough for my family. My son likes his own console in the back for his drinks and snacks. We like the idea of it having the rear camera. The sound system is great. It's very good on gas mileage. No problems out of it so far. I love the way it handles sharp turns, u-turns, and the interstate as well. One of my favorite features is the hands-free for my phone.

My jeep compass is amazing. Favorite car.
My jeep compass is very reliable and great on gas. This car has so many features like when the car automatically turns off when stopped at a light to save gas. I also love the big screen it has with many apps to choose from. The seats are really comfortable and it is super spacious for a family of five. The handling is great and feels safe when turning. Overall I love my jeep compass and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to purchase a new car soon.

Three times to the dealership for a P0300 code. Has 900km on it. Manual 6 speed.

Worst vehicle I bought
Bought the vehicle end of January and was already in the garage in March they replaced the rear differential then a week later a new noise appeared. It has been in the garage off and on since trying to figure it out. They replaced parts 2 & 3 times transfer case, rear axle, etc still has the noise when you get up to 78-84km it gives a growling noise that is quite noticeable. 5 months in and out of the garage and they still cant fix it. Not a happy camper. ?

Burn 3 qts of oil per 5000 miles... This is NEW!
All else is OK... New car burning synthetic oil... NOT! The dealer is still doing oil consumption test. We'll see how they handle it! I wish I never had purchased this Compass... And the other models with the same engine are at risk. Dealer said it was a common problem and it is all over the internet.

Problems
I bought my 2019 jeep compass January 29 2019 and have already had problem before it was 2 months old. Had the rear differential replaced and now working on another issue with noise happening when I slow down you can hear noise coming from the front I believe . So have not been a happy buyer. They should not have these many issues for a brand new vehicle.

Problems
I bought it at the end of January and have been on going problems since March. Been at the garage multiple times with rear differential being replaced, transfer case, drive shaft, rear axle some being replaced twice. Still having noise issues and the garage cant figure it out still. Not a happy customer ?

Dissatified
I just bought the 2019 Jeep Compass attitude at the end of January and today I had to take it back to the garage as it was making a noise only to be told it could possiably be the rear differential bearing possiably. I have only had the vehicle for less the two months and I am already having to take it back to the garage to be fixed while I am away on vacation next week. I am not a happy customer.
accountCircle Mary Perdue
Buyers beware
I bought this 2019 at the end of January and have had nothing but problems with it sine March. The rear differential went on it and I had it replaced. Then a week after getting my vehicle back another noise started at the front of the vehicle every time I slowed down at a intersection I would hear it growling loudly. They tried figuring out that noise then a noise appears in the front again this time when I get up to a speed between 78-85 it would give a high whining noise as if it was switching gears. The dealership I bought it from is unable to determine what is causing this problem. Chrysler is only offering me Chrysler discount to replace it with another vehicle, that does not make up for the $ lost in the lower trade in value even though the problems started at 4,000KM . Chrysler does not stand behind there vehicles they sell. Buyers be ware !!! MP

Good but could be better.
It is okay on gas. It takes a little longer to pick up speed. I have half leather and fabric seats which is nice. It comes with apple play but it glitches a lot. Came with rubber floor mats and a trunk mat which is great for the winter but it does not have heated seats. No sunroof either. But does have automatic windows.

What Do Critics Say About the Jeep Compass?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Jeep Compass doesn’t measure up to many of the other small SUVs on the market with lower than average owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Compass at 3.3/5, praising the roomy seating for its size, but doesn’t like the nine-speed transmission.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Compass a 3.7/5, enjoying the decent 4WD system, but owners don’t like the weak engine.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Jeep Compass Have?

Common problems found on the 2019 Jeep Compass include stalling shortly after starting, low oil pressure issues, along with excessive brake noise. Overall, these problems are a bit worse than other small SUVs, leading to some slightly more expensive repair bills as the Compass ages.

Stalling shortly after starting is the most widespread complaint from 2019 Compass owners at around 10,000 miles. Usually the stalling is caused by a damaged mass air flow or air pressure sensor. Replacing the sensors costs around $150 each, depending on local labor rates.

Low oil pressure issues have also been reported on the 2019 Compass at around 25,000 miles. The first thing to check if you get a low oil pressure warning light is the actual oil level. If it’s low, simply top it off as needed. If the oil pan is full then you may have a problem with the oil pump. Replacing the oil pump costs around $600 since it’s a time consuming process.

Excessive brake noise is another issue with the 2019 Jeep Compass in the first 10,000 miles. The brakes wear out quicker on the Compass than in other small SUVs on the market. Replacing the brake pads costs around $350, while a new set of rotors is about $550.

There are two recalls on the 2019 Jeep Compass, which is similar to other compact SUVs on the market. The first recall is for the windshield wiper nuts, and the second is for the coating on the rear brake pistons. Jeep will replace the windshield wiper parts and the rear brake pistons on affected models for free.

How Long Will the 2019 Jeep Compass Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Jeep Compass can last around 175,000 miles, which is over 100,000 miles less than the long-lasting Toyota RAV4. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other small SUVs, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $380 per year.

As a used 2019 Compass reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the ABS control module for $600, camshaft position sensor costing $120, along with the tie rods which cost around $200.

accountCircle Melissa G

accountCircle Raymond H

I believe it is reliable. I haven't experienced any issues with it thus far. I also haven't heard from others of any problems that the Compass has had.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is good with a standard 7-inch touchscreen which has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s a larger 8.4-inch touchscreen available with Jeep’s Uconnect software.

Standard safety technology is worse than other SUVs from 2019 with only a rearview camera.

Optional advanced safety features include:

  • Rear parking sensors
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Forward collision warning
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Lane departure warning
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Lane keep assist

Is the 2019 Jeep Compass a Good Value?

Yes, the 2019 Jeep Compass is a decent value since it’s cheaper than many other small SUVs on the market. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $17,499 to $28,865, making it less than a Honda CR-V or Mazda CX-5. When new, the price range was $22,095 to $29,945. Depreciation is worse than other SUVs, losing about 10% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Jeep Compass?

There are four main models of the 2019 Jeep Compass offered form the base Sport model all the way up to the more off-road focused Trailhawk model. The Compass is also offered with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive depending on the model.

Sport is the entry-level model with:

  • 16-Inch Wheels

What Engines Come In the Jeep Compass?

The engine found in the 2019 Jeep Compass is a weak 2.4L 4-cylinder which makes 180 horsepower at up to 26 MPG. There’s a standard six-speed manual transmission, optional six-speed automatic transmission, or an optional nine-speed automatic transmission. Performance is poor, taking 8.6 seconds to go from 0-60 MPH.

What Colors Does the Jeep Compass Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Jeep Compass?

The 2019 Jeep Compass is considered a comfortable SUV with room for five passengers by most owners. The seats are supportive, and the cabin is well-insulated, which helps to reduce road noise. The front seats are comfortable, and the driver’s seat comes with lumbar support, which can help to reduce fatigue on long drives.

However, some owners have found that the ride can be a bit firm and the rear seat may be cramped for taller passengers.

How Much Storage Space Does the Jeep Compass Have?

The 2019 Jeep Compass comes with a decent cargo area that can accommodate a variety of items. When the rear seats are in use, there is 27.2 cubic feet of cargo space available. This is enough room for a few suitcases, a stroller, or a few bags of groceries.

If you need even more space, the rear seats can be folded down to create 59.8 cubic feet of cargo space. This is enough room for larger items such as bicycles, camping gear, or even furniture. Additionally, the rear seat is split-folding, which gives you more flexibility to configure the space for your specific needs.

VehicleHistory Image

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The second generation of the Jeep Compass was launched for the 2017 model year.

2015: Altitude & High Altitude models available with all-wheel drive.

2016: Standard Bluetooth & satellite radio on Sport models, limited model discontinued.

2017: Fully redesigned for the second generation with new engines, technology, and styling.

2018: No changes from earlier years.

2019: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the lineup.

2020: Minor shifting of options throughout the models.

2021: Manual transmission discontinued, more standard driver safety features.

How Does the Jeep Compass Compare to the Competition?

The 2019 Jeep Compass is worse than many other compact SUVs on the market since it isn’t as reliable, and doesn’t have a lot of the latest safety technology.

The Jeep Cherokee is another small SUV from Jeep which costs around $1,500 more. Passenger room is better in the Jeep Cherokee, while the Jeep Compass fits better in large cities since it’s easier to park. We recommend the Jeep Cherokee since it’s a more practical choice, worth the extra money.

The Chevy Equinox is another competitor available in the same price range. Where the Chevy Equinox stands out is with more standard safety technology, while the Jeep Compass handles off-road terrain better. We recommend the Chevrolet Equinox since it lasts longer.

2019 jeep compass sport: the SUV with style!
This is the first SUV I have ever driven and I love it! It is such a smooth riding vehicle. So far I have been really impressed with the fuel efficiency for a vehicle of this size. Between highway and Cory driving I have been averaging 22 mpg. Another great feature is the built in reverse dash cam. It makes backing into tight parking spots easy. Car is Bluetooth enabled and apple play compatible. I am a bigger guy and the front seats fit me perfectly. Adjustable front and back, tilt and both front seats can be raised or lowered as well. The back seats are spacious as well. If you have kids you can fit two car seats comfortably in the back. The tuck space is a little smaller than I’d like but, it does get the job done. Can hold a couple hundred dollars worth of groceries or 4 golf bags. Rear window is not as wide as I’d like but with the backup camera it is not that big of a problem.

I love jeeps! I have been driving them for over 10 years. The jeep compass is a little smaller than most SUV's. It is ride is very smooth & handles the winter's in Syracuse just wonderful! Almost all of the jeeps look sleek. 4 wheel drive in this 2019 compass it's as simple as turning a dial!

For a jeep, it is pretty smooth. Unexpected honestly.
All in all, I have always wanted this vehicle. Granted not this exact model but still, I digress. No problems at all, rides smooth. Only thing is for some reason it sounds like an airplane engine sometimes. Maybe it is just me. Regardless, besides for my kids making it into a garbage can...I love it.

The perfect SUV for the petite female.
The jeep compass is a great vehicle for those that live in an area that gets a large amount of snow. It gets me through the snow piles and through an unplowed driveway with ease when needed. It is also a smaller made SUV, so someone of small stature does not feel so overpowered. (I am 4’10 and 33 years old) I can see well and feel safe in the driver's seat. It is also a smooth ride. I typically do not drive much mostly just to and from work, so that is why I didn't give it a super high score. I do not drive enough or know enough about cars to truly give it a 5. I am pretty neutral.
accountCircle Cheyanne F on June 9, 2021

I absolutely love my jeep. I get great gas mileage on the highway (highest has been 32 mpg). I have never had any issues and is easy to maintain. No complaints at all. I love my jeep compass. It is easy to drive and park. I like how quiet the engine is. It is a safe vehicle for my family. The only issue I have with my vehicle is a blind spot. This is most likely due to my height. I am 5'4, so I have a blind spot in most vehicles.

I love the automatic 4x4 engage.
It has had a few electrical problems, but covered under the warranty. The only complaints I have are the non automatic lights and that it has a feature to hibernate the car while stopped at a light/sign. It also had a recall on the back seat locks. Very efficient.

My vehicle is the perfect car for a starter car but also if you do not like large SUV type. It has a big enough trunk for your Costco and target trips. 2019 jeep compass- best for space.
There is not a lot of space to hold things (side compartments, cup holders, etc.) And that can be difficult. I love the amount of space in my car, especially in the back. I recently moved and it made it very easy to move a lot of boxes. I also like that you can add things to this car. For example, you can add a kayak rack to the top and that has been very useful for me.

Underrated vehicle that needs more of the latest features.
First I love jeeps, next this model is cute but has no extra's. Would like to have automatic trunk opener. This vehicle has no spare tire; if you happen to get a flat tire you will be out of luck or hopefully close to a tire shop. I think this is the worst of it all.

I have enjoyed driving my 2019 jeep compass. It is a manual transmission, and I was afraid I wouldn't remember how to drive one. It is been several years since driving my old mustang 2 stick shift. The jeep compass Trailhawk drives smooth, XM radio does not work on a consistent basis. But the seats are nice, I like that they are both leather and cloth. The red trim pieces on the interior are a nice detail. I got silver and it does a great job at hiding dirt and looking clean.

I have dinged it against things several times and I have taken it on several hour long road trips. But I haven’t had a single issue with it is performance. I love the remote start on it. It is stereo system and CarPlay capabilities are awesome. The only issue I have had is that it does not come with a spare tire apparently? That might have been a fluke. One thing to note is that the breaks are very sensitive. The main drawback of this car is that it does not have blind spot detectors.

Jeep compass review 2019.
The card self is very nice, I enjoy the last low amount of gas consumption. Although the gas only holds about 16 gallons and I have to refill it every so often I do not spend that much on gas. My favorite part about the car is the CarPlay in the accessibility. The speakers are amazing. My only problem is really the auto off when I am at a stoplight and it turns green within a few seconds it bothers me and scares me that the car might break down sooner.

Amazing first car, has all of the expected features for a newer model.
It is very cute and reliable. This was the first car I purchased, in my opinion it is quite affordable, but I also provided a decent down payment. I love the CarPlay, makes it much more convenient, haven't driven the car through the winter, so I am unsure of the reliability in the winter, but it is very reliable for my everyday commute.

Reliable & quite zippy all wheel drive!
I have not encountered any problems with my 2019 jeep compass. It has good gas mileage & is a very comfortable small SUV. I travel on gravel, pavement, & have a variety of weather year round. My husband is 6’2” and has more than enough leg room. We have our grandchildren quite often & the car seats are very secure & the added safety features are a must. The superior craftsmanship of the leather interior has been a dream to keep clean. I am not a fan of all black interiors but it is a sharp looking trim package. The heated seats & steering wheel have been amazing during cooler weather. We average 13,0000 miles a year & the tires show only minor wear, we have budgeted to replace them next year. All in all a grand vehicle!

I would never get another brand of car. Reliable safe and efficient.
I have a 2019 jeep compass sport, I have had many jeep’s before but nothing like this one! It is smooth riding, comfortable and overall a great ride. Gas mileage is phenomenal especially with the stop start technology. The cold weather gear on this car is exactly what I need to get me through the winters safely and warm!

Only missing silly features I like.
I have driven jeeps since I got my license and this model was my second favorite among the 4 I have had (my 2002 grand Cherokee being my 1st). This car is roomy and reliable. My only complaints and the main reasons that I did not give this car a 5-star rating is because it does not have a CD player, the headrests cannot be removed, there is no electrical outlet (which I have had in all other new models), and the window controls on the driver door are too far forward (I always end up hitting the back windows when I want the front). I know these are all small reasons but they are things I have noticed and make me miss my past vehicles. Overall, I would recommend the 2019 compass.

Traveling in a jeep compass: pros and cons.
For the most part I love my jeep compass! It is a small SUV that has great gas mileage and is very spacious! My boyfriend and I even took a week's worth of luggage, beach chairs, and even some of our families luggage to North Carolina with ease! Although it is great on gas, the fuel gauge is not very accurate once the vehicle gets to about an eighth of a tank. The acceleration after about a year also was not as great as when I first bought the vehicle, however it functions very well for an everyday vehicle! The seats feel ergonomic and are easily adjustable and comfortable. The overall ride and comfort of the jeep compass is perfect for every day and even long car rides!

Very reliable overall, I like it.
No problem so far, gas is pretty good on the car very comfortable and a lot of room for a smaller SUV. Interior has red highlights throughout the car and it gives it nice accents. Heated seats and automatic start is nice for the car. Also has automatic stop and go. Small gas tank only hold about 13 gallons.

Easy driving small SUV that fits nicely in the garage.
Reliable but small. Not big enough for 4 people and a corset. We will be getting a bigger SUV on the next vehicle. Handles well in snow and ice. Easy use of the 4 wheel drive. Would be a great vehicle for people without children. Went on a long road trip and it handled well. Heated seats are a great addition when you have leather.

That nicest vehicle that I have ever driven.
Good for getting to where I need to go. Smallest jeep that is made. Needs a little more horsepower. Comfortable for taking road trips. Nice audio system, 7.4 inch screen with apple auto is nice. I do like how all the controls on the steering wheel and instrument panel are easily accessible, in arms reach and do not cause any distraction to the driver.

This car will make you feel cool but very safe at the same time.
My car is actually not working at the moment. The start button will not start when I push the break. The gas pedal is locked, tried to jump it but it is not the battery. So it has to do with something electric with the car which would be my only complaint. The car is beautiful and runs very smoothly. The break is good and also saves on gas compared to the jeep wrangler. I like that there are different color to choose from. A lot of space, you can pack your car with many things while still having space for yourself.

Great exploring vehicle! Would 100% recommend!
We love our new jeep compass, has everything we need. We have the trail hawk addition and it has been so useful. Having the skid plate has given us so much peace of mind when off roading. The 4wd is fantastic, there are 4 different modes to choose from and they really work well at what they do. The red trim inside is such a beautiful touch and the seats are super comfy, even on long road trips.

There’s a cool hidden gem on the exterior.
This vehicle is cute but also safe. I love the leather interior with the heated seats and heated steering wheel. It is a dark blue and super pretty. It is shimmers in the sun but looks black at night. The car itself feels reliable and easy to drive. The back up camera is a definite plus!

Good quality car for a single person.
For the most part, I enjoy my jeep compass. I do wish it had more get up and go and that is due to the small engine I have. Also, I wish it was a bit larger. My older SUV used to fit 3 people in the back comfortably, but this is the definition of a “small” SUV. But overall, it runs very smoothly! Good quality car for a single person.

I am in love with my car best purchase.
I absolutely love my car, I purchased my car without even test driving it just saw the pictures online and fell in love with it. Was worried once it came I would not like driving it but surprisingly it is so nice so smooth just perfect, I have had multiple cars before never loved one as much as this one I get so many compliments on it also.

Great visibility for driver on the road.
The car is very safety and nice. Jeep have a height advantage over almost all vehicles on the road, providing greater visibility for driver. You will be able to easily use everything down the road. Very comfortable and 4wd. However, the gas consuming more than other Japanese and Korean brand.

The car has a beautiful shape, clean lines and is very reliable.
Sometimes the push to start will not start the engine, it will only turn in the dashboard. When this happens you will have to turn off and try again. Other than that, I love the car! The heated steering wheel is the best thing to ever happen to this Chicago resident:).

Jeep compass - great car, some missing features.
The paint job on the vehicle began wearing after 1 year. The car drives very smooth and gets good gas mileage. It is missing basic features such as blind spot warnings and turn signals on mirrors. Other than the missing features and the issue with the paint job, it is a great car.

Perfect car for a new parent!
I have owned my jeep compass for almost a year and I absolutely love this vehicle. It runs really smooth and is easy to drive. I love the interior design and feel comfortable on long drives. The back seat has plenty of room for my daughters car seat and has plenty of room to throw a stroller in the trunk.

Great luxury jeep, only two downfalls.
My jeep has a load of great features, connects to my phone, beautiful leather interior, perfect space for a small family. It is 4x4 has chrome trimmings. The only downfall is sometimes there is a weird acceleration noise and when on 4x4 also very noisy.
accountCircle Deshon C on March 20, 2021
4x4 jeep compass never gets stuck in the snow and is great for trails.
This car is truly amazing. It rides very smoothly. I live in an area that is heavily populated by snow in the winter and the car has never given me and problems on the streets. The 4x4 has saved me time on my commute and has given me a sense of security.

The 2019 jeep compass is very updated with technology and features.
I love the upgraded dashboard and entertainment system. The keyless ignition has taken time to get used to. I miss having a sunroof but I was willing to pass it up. The vehicle has a smooth ride and is comfortable to drive. It looks a lot nicer than older models. I also enjoy being able to hook my phone up to the entertainment system and pull up my map, music, and phone calls on the big screen rather than trying to look at my phone while driving.
