The 2020 Jeep Renegade lasts around 175,000 miles, with some average check engine light and stereo system issues. At $17,500 to $24,750, it’s a good value for shoppers on a budget, but there are better SUV choices on the market.

Off-road performance is good with the four-wheel drive system, there’s a lot of headroom and the stereo system has good features.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The fuel economy is worse than other small SUVs, it’s slow and the standard safety technology is very basic.

Is the 2020 Jeep Renegade a Good Used SUV?

  • Overall Rating 7/10 – 2020 is a good year for the Jeep Renegade, although it’s still worse than some other compact SUVs from the same year. Owner reviews praise the roomy cabin, camera system, along with the four-wheel drive performance.
  • Interior, Comfort & Cargo 7/10 – Interior materials are durable and hold up well, the seats are comfortable on longer drives, but cargo space is limited.
  • Reliability 7/10 – There are not any widespread complaints on the 2020 Renegade. Avoid models from 20152018, which have engine problems, while 20192022 are more dependable.
  • Performance 7/10 – Both of the four-cylinder engines offer reasonable performance for a small SUV, but it’s not very fun to drive.
  • Safety 7/10 – The 2020 Renegade is reasonably safe, earning 4 out of 5 stars in government crash tests. It comes standard with a rearview camera, while optional upgrades include lane keep assist along with adaptive cruise control.
  • Gas Mileage 7/10 – Fuel economy is okay at up to 27 MPG, giving 342 miles of range out of the 12.7 gallon tank. Gas costs are $8 cheaper than average at $205 per month.
  • Value 8/10 – The 2020 Jeep Renegade is cheaper than many other small SUVs on the market, with average depreciation rates, giving it a good value score.

Great car. Amazing car. Lovely car. I love my car.
Great car. Best one I have ever had. Drives great. Super roomy. Nice seats. Nice tires. Nice rims. Lovely interior. Great if you have kids who are just starting to drive. Safe. Very safe. Super safe. Lovely car. Amazing car. Great car. I love the car, so glad I got it.

Fob is ok, like the old way better.
The only problem I have had was a month into having it something in the starter and fob messed up. Had to take it back to the dealer for 3 days for them to find it. Sometimes the car will not start and wants me to start it with the fob but mine is not that fancy. Also the emergency break button is very touchy.

Jeep renegade extra features make it a hit.
The cameras are a huge bonus. Great vehicle. The cooling seats are a feature that I was not anticipating but have grown to love. I feel like it handles great on the highway and through town. Plenty of room for whatever I need as well. Also the satellite radio is a bonus.

Amazing vehicle don't pass this up.
There are no problems. This is an amazing vehicle! Great on gas awesome looking comfortable. Beautiful color. Absolutely love this vehicle. The screen size is terrific. The sound system is great. Easy to handle. Very affordable great monthly payments all electric except the seats wish they were electric but I am ok that the seats are not.

Great performance for the price!
I have only had this car for roughly a month, but so far I haven't encountered a single thing that I dislike about it. It is good on gas (for a 4wd SUV), it rides smooth, rides well in the rain, has comfortable seats, plenty of space, etc. The stock tires provide decent traction as well.

I was in the market for something bigger but the jeep renegade fit the ticket.
Currently I am only at about 4,000 mi on my jeep renegade however each day I find a new and exciting feature I didn't even know I had. It handles unbelievably well, I cannot wait for winter. Gas mileage could be better but it is understandable. I really like the amount of accessories that are available online.

Good reasons to win a jeep.
My jeep renegade, is very comfortable. It is very good on gas and it also has many accessories. I love my backup mirror and the camera is awesome. If you want a car that's easy and comfortable. Get a jeep. If you are going on a long trip, get a jeep. For dependability, get a jeep. This is my third jeep and I will continue to promote and buy jeeps.

Excellent SUV with hidden charms.
I absolutely adore my jeep renegade! There are so many small details and easter eggs hidden throughout the car that really add to its charm! The size of the small SUV is also perfect and even when my 6'4 brother rides in the car he is comfortable and has plenty of room.

Does not live up to jeep name.
It is too small and there is not enough room. For storage. Very small back seat that does not allow for a third person if you have two car seats. Rides more like a car and is not visually appealing. Does not come with a tow hitch and had to add up underneath causing car to bottom out on curbs.

Noise since purchase 2 yrs ago. Cant get fixec
I purchased a 2017 Renegade two years ago and have had it two different dealerships numerous times. Noise that no cause can be found and now am being told it 'may be the tires and I should spend $800 (on sale) to eliminate that possibility. At time it sounds like the motor is going to explode but I have been told by a friend that it sounds like wheel bearings. Dealership won't check bearings unless I eliminate tire issue first. Noge: my Renegadehas 35,500 miles, almost out of bumper to bumper warranty but I have extended. Who can I contact at Jeep that represents the southern part of AL.

Drives well, touchscreen needs work.
The vehicle drives fine, but the touch screen does not feel cohesive, and some features do not work. For example, we've tried to favorite specific stations or have the jeep auto-tune to them when turning on. It does not work. We've also tried reading over the manual and went step-by-step for this. Nothing.

First impressions of jeep renegade 2020.
I haven't really had this vehicle for long. The interior is nice, safety features are modern. The handling and driving feels stiff and top-heavy. I like the appearance of the jeep, although I did not expect it to be so small compared to other compact SUVs.

The 2020 jeep renegade needs only a few changes.
The jeep renegade is a nice car, there are just a couple things that could be better. One thing we noticed was that there are no cup holders for the back seat. We do however love the dash of the car, the wheel, and the seats. It is a great car for travel because it is a gas saver.

What Do Critics Say About the Jeep Renegade?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2020 Jeep Renegade offers a solid feel overall with plenty of cargo space, while also getting good owner satisfaction scores as it ages.
  • Edmunds rates the Jeep Renegade at 3.9/5, enjoying the excellent exterior styling, but doesn’t like the amount of wind noise at highway speeds.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Renegade a 3.8/5, praising the great off-road capabilities in the Trailhawk, but owners don’t like the slow automatic transmission.

What Common Problems Does the 2020 Jeep Renegade Have?

Common problems found on the 2020 Jeep Renegade include check engine lights, a frozen stereo system, along with some excessive noise from the wheels. Overall, these problems are similar to other small SUVs, leading to average repair costs as the Renegade ages.

Check engine lights are the most widespread complaint from 2020 Renegade owners, showing up at around 5,000 miles. There are a lot of issues that can cause a check engine light to turn on, so you will need to use an OBD-II scan tool to read the code in the ECU. Once you know the source of the light, the repairs cost $50 to $550.

A frozen stereo system has also been reported by some Renegade owners within the first 1,000 miles. The software locks up from time to time, and has to be restarted to get it working again. Most dealerships will update the software for free, while others charge around $50 for labor.

Excessive wheel noise is another problem that shows up on some Renegade models at around 20,000 miles. The wheel bearings tend to wear out more quickly than in other SUVs, leading to a lot of noise. Replacing the wheel bearings costs around $350, depending on local labor rates.

There are two recalls on the 2020 Jeep Renegade, which is similar to other compact SUVs from the same year. The first recall covers the right rear brake caliper, which may fail. Jeep will replace the caliper on affected models for free. The second covers the rearview camera, which Jeep can fix with a software update.

How Long Will the 2020 Jeep Renegade Last?

A well-maintained 2020 Jeep Renegade can last around 175,000 miles, which is shorter than some other small SUVs, including the Toyota RAV4. Regular annual maintenance costs are slightly higher than some competitors, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $448 per year.

As a used 2020 Renegade reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history report, owners should be prepared to replace the transmission mount for $200, the oxygen sensor costing $380, along with the brake master cylinder, which costs around $475.

How Is the Technology?

The standard entertainment technology is average for a small SUV and includes a 5-inch touchscreen. Optional upgrades include  larger 7 or 8.4-inch touch screens with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Standard safety technology is basic since it only has a rearview camera.

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane departure warning
  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • Forward collision warning
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Automatic parking assist
  • Lane keep assist
  • Front and rear parking sensors

Is the 2020 Jeep Renegade a Good Value?

Yes, the 2020 Jeep Renegade is a decent value since it’s cheaper than many other small SUVs and has better reliability than in earlier years. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $17,500 to $24,750, making it less than a Honda HR-V or Subaru Forester. When new, the price range was $22,375 to $28,500. Depreciation is similar to other SUVs, losing about 5% of its current value per year.

What Engines Come In the Jeep Renegade?

The 2020 Jeep Renegade offers two engine choices to cater to various driving preferences and needs.

The first option is a 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir2 engine. This engine delivers 180 horsepower and is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. It provides a combined fuel economy of around 24 MPG. As for its performance, the Renegade equipped with this engine can accelerate from 0-60 MPH in roughly 9 seconds.

The second available engine is a 1.3-liter turbocharged inline-4. Generating 177 horsepower, this engine is mated to the same nine-speed automatic transmission. Its combined fuel economy stands at about 27 MPG, making it the more fuel-efficient choice of the two. In terms of acceleration, this engine allows the Renegade to sprint from 0-60 MPH in just under 9 seconds.

What Colors Does the Jeep Renegade Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Jeep Renegade?

The 2020 Jeep Renegade is designed with a blend of urban appeal and rugged charm, providing comfort both on city streets and off-road terrains. Inside, the Renegade offers spacious seating for both the driver and passengers. The seats are crafted with quality materials, offering enough cushioning and support, ideal for longer drives. Many trims come with the option of heated seats and a heated steering wheel, enhancing comfort during colder months.

The cabin layout is user-friendly, with intuitively placed controls, making it easy for the driver to manage various functions without unnecessary distractions. The vehicle’s suspension is tuned to absorb most road imperfections, providing a smooth ride. Additionally, noise insulation is effective, keeping most of the external sounds at bay and making sure a serene in-cabin experience. While the Renegade might not be as plush as some luxury SUVs, it certainly delivers a level of comfort that is commendable for its class, providing a pleasant experience for both the driver and passengers.

How Much Storage Space Does the Jeep Renegade Have?

The 2020 Jeep Renegade offers versatility in storage, making it a favorite among many SUV enthusiasts. The vehicle boasts a total cargo space of 18.5 cubic feet behind the second row, which is spacious enough to accommodate daily shopping bags, a couple of medium-sized suitcases, or even a baby stroller. For those who require more room, the rear seats can be folded down to expand the cargo space to an impressive 50.8 cubic feet. This expanded space can comfortably fit larger items like a bicycle, camping equipment, or multiple suitcases for a long trip.

Beyond the primary cargo area, the Jeep Renegade has a variety of small interior storage solutions. There’s a useful glovebox, door pockets, cupholders, and a center console bin for keeping smaller items organized and within reach. Whether you’re heading out on an adventure or running errands around town, the 2020 Jeep Renegade makes sure that you have ample space to carry whatever you need.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The Jeep Renegade was launched for the 2015 model year as a new compact SUV.

2015: First model year for the Jeep Renegade, which is the smallest SUV offered by Jeep.

2016: Upgraded Beats stereo system added and more standard features offered.

2017: Keyless ignition and Xenon headlights also added.

2018: There’s a standard 5-inch touchscreen and rearview camera on all models, the larger touchscreen comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

2019: Small exterior styling changes, more options packages offered.

2020: Stronger 1.3L engine added, and standard smartphone apps on all models.

2021: Additional driver safety features added, Limited model only offered with 4WD, also new limited-edition models added.

How Does the Jeep Renegade Compare to the Competition?

The 2020 Jeep Renegade is a fine small SUV for shoppers on a budget, although it’s not really a class-leader in any areas aside from its decent four-wheel drive system.

The Jeep Compass is another compact SUV from Jeep, which costs $1,200 more. Passenger room is a bit better in the Jeep Compass, while the Jeep Renegade offers slightly better off-road performance. We recommend the Jeep Compass since it’s a better daily driver, but it’s worth testing both to see which you prefer.

The Subaru Crosstrek is a popular small SUV which costs about $3,500 more. Long-term reliability ratings are better in the Subaru Crosstrek, while the Jeep Renegade has more unique styling. We recommend the Subaru Crosstrek since the lower ownership costs make it a better long-term value.

I love that different jeep’s have different animals hidden in them.
My vehicle has been great so far! It rides great, looks super sporty and haven't had any issues! One of my favorite things about it is the color (bikini) it is just so unique and not many of them are around. I got the driver's seat in the most perfect spot so I could drive for you hours on end without needing to adjust. Love the apple CarPlay, the automatic windshield wipers and everything!

Bikini jeep renegade 2020 latitude thoughts and feelings.
Overall the car is built like a tank! It feels super safe and strong. It looks smaller on the outside but once you are on the inside you have a lot of room and space. One thing that is annoying is that there is no sunroof it was an additional coast that truthfully was not worth the added expense. The car is great on gas. My one complaint would be that there are these two spots that add on to the already existing blind spots. I will day with the 2020 version it was somewhat fixed from the previous versions but still sometimes it causes an issue.

202 jeep renegade pros and cons.
Very reliable, comfy ride, there's not a ton of space but overall it is a great car. The car can be a little bumpy at times but that is to be expected with a jeep. Gets good gas mileage and has the capability to get you through whatever weather decides to throw your way. I would definitely recommend getting one of these.

2020 jeep renegade latitude 4wd.
I have had this jeep for two weeks now. It has been a dream of mine to own a jeep. I love how far I am off the ground. I am not to low, if you are on a major highway or turnpike you can hear some cabin noise but with the radio up you cannot hear it. The back up camera is big and detailed, a big improvement from my last car. The terrain 4wd options are also a plus for me.

Fun to drive and worth the cost!
No problems noted yet. Only complaint is that the gas tank is quite small for the size of the vehicle so I have to fill up the tank more often than I'd like. But I love driving the car. It is fun and easy to drive. I also really love the look of it. Lots of cool features, including apple CarPlay so I can plug my phone in and use it more safely while I drive. Smooth on the road too.

Sleek vehicle, comfortable jeep.
The jeep renegade is a wonderful car, it is a four cylinder vehicle but it really has a get up and go. The audio system is nice and it is equipped with Sirius XM and OnStar. The issues that I have with the car is the OnStar capability does not work and for some reason the hotspot is not working. The front seats are very spacious but unfortunately the back seats are made for younger kids as there is not very much leg room. The car itself is pretty comfortable and I do not have very much complaints.

One downfall is that it is poor on gas, but it is great for off road driving. Updated with CarPlay and Sirius radio. All seats are leather and great for comfort and cleaning. Affordable and reliable car for a first time buyer.
The car is great. Mine is only a two wheel drive but I haven't had problems taking it on dirt trails on steep cliffs like those in Big Sur. The gas mileage is great and there's plenty of space in the back to have all of my camping equipment or my bike or wood for projects. My main beef is that I wish I would've upgraded and gotten leather seating because the fabric seating is very difficult to clean and I can never get the dirt in the railings underneath the driver and passenger seats. Sometimes the high beams go off in dark tunnels without me flipping the switch.

It is very comfortable with heated seat and steering wheel. The screen for the backup camera is much bigger. I love the carplay option for the phone. It shows the map of where I am driving on the screen.

My vehicle is just perfect for me.
For the most part, my vehicle does not have any problems. The main issue I have is the speed when I am going on the highway. The car does not like to speed up much when I am pressing on the gas. The car is very spacious. You are not sitting on top of the passenger. My vehicle does not come with GPS but I can use carplay. There are heated seats.

Smooth and safe ride for the whole family.
My jeep renegade is extremely comfortable and stylish. I feel it keeps me and my family safe on the road. It has all the features I need for a smooth, reliable ride. I wouldn't dream of purchasing a different vehicle. When I am in my renegade I feel like I have truly made the best decision possible for my family.

New 2020 renegade, drives like a jeep but convince of an SUV.
My new jeep renegade limited is awesome! No issues to report so far. Has a turbo, sunroof, leather interior. Still has plenty of room in the trunk. I do wish there was an additional compartment in the hotel trunk. I like how high the renege sits and drives more like a wrangler than a Cherokee. The renegade has more of a rugged feel. The wheels are bigger which will makes tire replacement expensive. The lane departure is a huge help! This is my second jeep, the drive well in the snow and are very reliable.

Jeep liberty, perfect car for snowy conditions.
The only problem I have is that it does not come with seat warmers. I live in a state that gets cold and can have treacherous driving conditions, so I wanted a car that would handle that. But the lack of heated seats in my model is confusing when many people buy the vehicle to do well in cold conditions.

Jeep renegade for the win.
This car is a great first car! Super easy to drive and has very comfortable seating. Inside seats five people and the speakers inside of the car are great! I would recommend this car to anyone, but I would especially target this to teenagers and young adults.

Young independent people need a jeep renegade.
I have not have a single problem with the car since I purchased it more than 6 months ago. It performs well and is reliable and comfortable. All passengers have enough space when inside. My only problem is the lack of features. It would be nice for the vehicle to come with more modern features. That would make it more competitive and desirable in my eyes.

Apple carplay feature on my jeep renegade.
The only problems I have had it with my apple carplay. It does not always work when my phone is plugged in. It will not accept a radio station I try to find and sometimes voice text does not work. Other times it’ll jump around from feature to feature. I got this car partly because of apple carplay, so this is important to me.

Love the 2020 jeep renegade so much.
The renegade is so fun to drive and so stylish. The features make it super comfortable. I love the heated steering wheel and seats. Rear cargo area is a nice size and I can fit 2 car seats plus an adult I am the back seat. Front seat area is spacious and comfortable.

Powerhouse car with great amenities.
I love my car. From the sporty look to performance. It has great pick up, great brakes, handles well. I do wish it were a little more roomy in the back, but I am never back there so that is not a big deal. My one main criticism is the lack of lights in the trunk space.

I love my jeep renegade ??
The jeep renegade is an amazing car, it is spacious with a lot of room for multiple outdoor events with the family. I love that it is ability to perform high levels of speed and still feel safe. The jeep renegade has changed my views of the way that I see jeep vehicles! I think for my next vehicle I will first try another jeep renegade or another jeep for sure.

Cool facts about the new jeep renegade.
Love the apple CarPlay in the jeep you can plug your phone right up and it displays almost everything. Extremely reliable on gas. It drives smooth on the road and the highway as well. The truck is a little small but depending on what your putting in it you can always lay down the seats and make it work.

Has a button that lets me change the drive compared to what road I am driving on.
My renegade is the best car I have ever had. I had a ford escape before this and I love my renegade so much more. It is so comfortable for long drives and my gas mileage is so great. I have had it for about a year now and it has held up with me driving to and from school every day.

Cool blue sporty renegade.
The car has good power, is comfortable, spacious, and handles well. Dislikes are pick up is a little slow (I believe due to automatic to manual transmission-all cars I have driven like this have been) and sensor priority does not make sense as right now my washer fluid is low but I also need an oil change and the washer indicator stays lit while I only get the oil reminder when turning the vehicle on.

In love with this car best car.
No problem. Very comfortable. Fast. Smooth. Love the color. Lots of spaces. Quiet. Kid loves. Very good on gas love the sound. Backup camera is great. Needs more cup holders. Lot of places to put things. Color is different. Fits a lot in it. Would love anyone to get it.

Fun to drive and deceptively roomy.
My jeep renegade drives like a dream. It has multiple sport modes that it can drive in and can handle any terrain. It is fun and sporty and my passengers often comment on how roomy it is inside. It is fun to go about town in and has plenty of trunk space to transport supplies.

Does not live up to jeep name.
It is too small and there is not enough room. For storage. Very small back seat that does not allow for a third person if you have two car seats. Rides more like a car and is not visually appealing. Does not come with a tow hitch and had to add up underneath causing car to bottom out on curbs.

Why I love my jeep renegade.
I love the way the jeep renegade handles. There is way more room in the cockpit than it looks like from outside. I love the remote start and the fact that I can start it with the app on my phone. I miss having a vehicle with a 6 cylinder engine. I love being able to switch radio stations from my steering wheel. My kids love the heated seats.

The 2020 jeep renegade is a blast to drive!
I have no problems with this vehicle. It is fun to drive. I wanted a vehicle that is 4x4 since I live in an area that gets snow in the winter. It is way more spacious on the inside than it looks like it would be from the outside. The only negative is there is not a lot of space in the hatchback, but that is to be expected since it is the smallest version of the jeep.
