  • Reliability ratings are below average.

It is a very safe and reliable vehicle.
My Kia Sorento gets great gas mileage. I like it because it is safe and reliable. I do not like that there is no tow hitch. It is the only make of SUV I want to own.

This vehicle is perfect for me because it has good mileage on the road. I like because it is not keyless, I need a key to start it.. This car is not very fast like the later models. We love our Kia Sorento. We were looking for a good reliable family car and we found it with this car.

My Kia is one of the base models, I feel like I am driving a tank down the road.
I brought my vehicle used, it was 1 yr old. Whoever had it took very good care of it. I have moved 3 times with this vehicle, it is very roomy and very good on gas mileage. This is my 5th Kia, they are very dependable. I would highly recommend this for your next vehicle. Low maintenance but I would recommend you have a warranty plan for your vehicle.

Heated seats, control panel on the steering wheel.
My car is a very good car, it has seat heaters, it is very spacious, perfect family car, and it is a decent price. Some problems would be that the radio it is a little old, but you can easily replace it with a new one by going to the mechanic. This car has many features that would make a family man/woman happy.

Long lasting with regular maintenance I've had this car for a few years took on several trips good gas mileage would recommend this SUV

Good traveling car. Lots of cargo space.
Very reliable. Low maintenance. Comfortable seating in both rows. Sound system excellent. Automatic rear view mirror adjustment for night driving.
accountCircle Natalie J
That it is a great SUV with rather decent gas mileage and yet still has a sporty feel.
I love my Kia Sorento because it has plenty of room for me and my kids. It is semi affordable though I really wish they would cut people with bad credit a break so I didn't have to pay over $300 a month for a car payment. I also wish Kia offered a warranty on their older cars because I totally would have paid extra to have the protection. Only think car wise I would like is if the seats folded into the floor to make it flat.

To stand by your product when there is an obvious fault
Do not buy nothing but problems In the past 7 months 3 of the 4 doors just stopped opening and Kia just said too bad for you we aren't going to do anything about it also electrical issues all over sometimes things work sometimes not I give 0 stars to Kia for standing by their cheap product

Kia does not stand by their product
Stay away from this vehicle. Electrical problems from cruise control not working. Backup camera sometimes works but mostly doesn't. Air-condition sometimes blows hot air on left vent. But the worst is that 3 of my 4 doors won't open from the outside. This happened all in the last 7 months and Kia basically told me too bad, my problem. This could result in a dangerous problem if I needed to get children out quickly. Kia does not stand by their product

Stay away. Electrical problems, cruise doesn't work, backup camera not working, air-conditioning sometimes blows hot. But the worst problem is that in the past 7 months 3 of my doors just stopped opening from the outside. Kia checked (for $150.00) and found the problem to be broken steel plates. Common sense dictates that these plates are faulty but Kia told me its my problematic they would do nothing for me. I was also threatened with legal action if I went on Facebook and complained. That is how Kia (doesn't) stand by their vehicle!!!

Performs great. Feel safe while driving it on interstate . Very reliable with regular maintenance . Decent gas mileage . Not so comfortable seats do not adjust well for varying people. Too much plastic. Lots of broken little pieces door handles fall off. Cheap plastic parts.

Kia Sorento is not good do not buy it.
The maintenance on my car is very expensive. Since I got the car I always have problems with it. I have dent fixed so many things in car and there is always recalls. I will never get the Kia Sorento again. My sensors are also going bad and I am just getting tired of fixing it.

2011 Kia Sorento car review.
It is a good car does not have good miles per gallon. Especially on the highway it eats gas. I have had it for 2 years not and the only thing that broke on it was the heater. Bout other than that it is a good first car and has plenty of room in the back of it.

What Problems Does the 2011 Kia Sorento Have?

The 2011 Kia Sorento is the worst year to buy with more complaints than any other year. Owners report sudden engine failures, costing thousands of dollars to replace. Another common problem involves doors being unable to be opened from the outside. The connection from the handle to the latch breaks frequently. Headlight bulbs burning out quickly is another problem, leading to frequent replacements.

The 2011 Kia Sorento’s problems with sudden surging and engine stalls led to seven investigations and six recalls. The recalls include a wiring harness, brake calipers, intermediate drive shaft, stop lamp switch, and the brake-shift interlock. The most serious recall is for the wiring harness. If it fails, it can result in permanently damaged electronics, or in some cases a fire.

What are the Prices, Models & Specs?

Pricing on the 2011 Kia Sorento ranges from $8,611 to $12,438, depending on the model and mileage. It is more affordable than other midsize SUVs from the same year. When new, it had a retail price of $21,195 to $34,095. Depreciation is fast in the Sorento, losing 55% of its value in the first 5 years.

  • The base model of the 2011 Sorento is the LX. Features include 17-inch wheels, satellite radio, MP3 playback, Bluetooth connectivity, and steering wheel mounted controls.
  • An upgraded model is the EX. Added features include 18-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, a leather steering wheel, 8-way adjustable power driver’s seat. Available options include navigation and leather seats.
  • The top-of-the-line model is the SX. Built for luxury, this model comes standard with navigation, leather seating, an Infinity surround sound stereo, panoramic sunroof, and chrome wheels.

How Long Will the 2011 Kia Sorento Last?

Longevity is a weak point in the 2011 Sorento compared to other midsize SUVs. Engine failures are common on vehicles with under 100,000 miles. Based on ownership data, we can only expect one to last about 100,000 miles with proper care. Repair Pal estimates maintenance costs are $570 per year, which is slightly more expensive than its competitors.

accountCircle Lindsay C

It has been a reliable vehicle. Have had to replace the starter, battery a few times. Other than that it is been great.

accountCircle Jon O

It has never had any engine problems or computer issues. The only things that have has to be replaced are the front lights, windshield wipers and front glass.

accountCircle Merry M

accountCircle Gadeer A

No not at all I never had an issue with it since I bought it hope I will not have any problems at all that is all I have.

accountCircle Jacquelyn C

I believe it is very reliable as long as you keep up with general maintenance. Oil changes, tires, alignment. I have had the car for over a year and drive it alot and have not personally had any issues with it.

accountCircle Cheri F

Reliable. Only issues are with sensors for steering wheel controls needing to be replaced. Headlight wiring rusted.

accountCircle Emily C

It’s fairly reliable from what I've seen so far, I haven't had any issues as of yet and the Kia I have is pre owned

accountCircle Samantha I

Very reliable. Has no problems does great on the road I've had it for 6 years now and it’s still going strong

What Technology & Safety Features Are Included?

Technology is good in the 2011 Sorento compared to other midsize SUVs. Primarily because it is the first model year for the 2nd generation, so it has the latest technology for its time.

  • Base technology includes Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports, MP3 playback, and Satellite Radio
  • Upgraded technology adds navigation and a 10-speaker stereo system from Infinity.
  • For safety, the Sorento comes standard with airbags, antilock brakes, electronic stability control, and hill control systems. Optional safety features include a back-up camera and sonar-guided parking sensors.

What Engine Options are Available?

The 2011 Kia Sorento engine options include a 2.4L four-cylinder and more Powerful 3.5L V6. Performance in the 2011 Sorento is below average with the 4-cylinder engine, and quick with the V6. It can go from 0 to 60 in 7 seconds with the upgraded engine.

  • The base engine is a 2.4L 4-cylinder with 175 horsepower.
  • An upgraded 3.5L V6 engine produces 276 horsepower.

What Colors Options are Available?

How Big is the Sorento?

The 2011 Sorento is a midsize SUV with seating for 5 to 7 people depending on the configuration. It is similar in size to other midsize SUVs, but offers more legroom in the second row. Owners report the third row is small, and only designed for children to sit comfortably. Cargo space is below average with 9.1 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 37 cubic feet behind the second, and a maximum of 72.5 cubic feet with all the rear seats folded flat.

How Does the 2011 Kia Sorento Compare to Other SUVs?

Based on owner reviews, the 2011 Sorento ranks 16th out of 23 midsize SUVs, putting it near the bottom of the group. One of its strongest competitors is the Toyota Highlander, which has better build quality and long-term reliability. The Kia has more standard features and more advanced technology, but in the end, it does not make up for its problems. Between the two SUVs, the Highlander is the better choice.

Another rival to the Sorento is the Mazda CX-9. The Kia gets better fuel economy, has better styling, and a more refined interior. The CX-9 comes standard with a V6 engine, and is more reliable. Overall, if you want a longer-lasting SUV, the CX-9 is the one to go with since it will have fewer mechanical problems.

Final Verdict: Is the 2011 Kia Sorento a Good SUV?

Simply put, no, the 2011 Kia Sorento is not a good SUV based on data from its owners. Mechanical problems are too common, and poor design choices cause a lot of components to break as it ages. The Sorento rides smoothly and offers above-average technology for an SUV its age, but it does not make up for the serious problems. Overall, this is an SUV we do not recommend to shoppers.

Great vehicle!!
Im on my second Sorebto. The current one is 236,000 miles strong! Little things here and there but great car. Michigan roads and weather killed the suspension but that isn't a car defect.

Very nice, love to drive it, so does my wife. We also have another one / 4 cyl.
Black,AWD,6cyl.,roof rails,a/c front and rear, bought used 4 yrs. Ago. It had 83,000 miles on it, now has 95,000 miles. It is very comfortable to drive and ride in. We have driven it cross-country, fully loaded including 3 dogs without a single problem, averaged approx. 26 mpg. The only problem I've ever had is with the driver side front window switch.

Kia Sorento 2011 - good car, random malfunctions.
It runs very well, but the steering wheel buttons that communicate with the electronic functions of the car such as the phone, radio, cruise control, and the horn has been finicky since I bought it in 2017. Random things have broken such as the door handle and the passenger air vent.

The Kia Sorento has great power when needed.
I have enjoyed my Kia Sorento. It has a nice leather interior. It drives very nicely in town and on mountain passes. It has nice storage area in the back for groceries, sports equipment or luggage when traveling out of town. It also has a luggage rack on top. The heated seats are nice now that we are entering winter weather. I really enjoy the CD player listening to my favorite musicians. It has cruise control, Bluetooth capabilities so you are obeying laws of the road and not using mobile phone when driving. It has only 55,000 miles and I am the sole owner of this SUV. The only thing I can think of that I dislike about my Kia Sorento is the blind spot. I just have to be extra cautious.

2011 Kia Sorento - seat heaters!
Cracked windshield but drives like a charm! The seats are really luxurious and the seat heaters are really just so dandy to have when it gets cold out. Only downside is sometimes the key jams and I have to fiddle with it for a good amount of time.

The Kia Sorento is a very reliable car.
Overall it is a very reliable vehicle. With nearly two hundred thousand miles on it, I have not had very many issues with it beyond general maintenance. The body has held up very well. Especially considering I used it as a work vehicle through eight Chicago winters.

Kia brand needs quality improvements.
Everything is going/expiring on my vehicle, despite keeping it clean and maintained. Things that have died: backup cam, DVD player, gas tank does not always pop open with button, cruise control gone. Additionally, I have never had a vehicle that requires brakes replaced so often. The screen for the backup cam and stereo is fuzzy for up to 30 minutes after starting.

Love my Kia Sorento 2011!
This vehicle is very nice. It is smooth riding on a highway, gravel road, cobblestone road, and even dirt. People of all ages can drive this vehicle and feel safe and comfortable with its performance. I have my Kia in a silver finish with pin white stripes down either outer side. The car is sleek looking, and I will always know which car is mine in a parking lot. The backseat easily fits 3 people or 2 people with cup holder in between. There is a comfortable amount of legroom for every size.

Kia Sorento are easily maintainable and a great vehicle to own.
My 2011 Kia Sorento is a comfortable family vehicle. I am the only owner having bought it brand new. I haven't had many issues at all with it. The highest issue is with the headlights. The bulbs become disconnect on their own and have to be fixed constantly. Other than that it runs great. Fits 5 people comfortably. Has a back seat that lays down for extra storage room. Very little maintenance and easy to keep up.

I love my Kia so much and so will yall!
I really love my Kia Sorento. I have had it now for 7 years and it is still going strong. I have no plans on getting another car anytime soon and if I do it will probably be another Kia Sorento. I have had 2 Kia Sorento in the past 15 years and I really cannot complain about them. On my Kia now I have over 255,000 miles and still acts like the first day I got it. I have no fear taking a long trip and knowing that I will make it there and back without a doubt. I hope this helps someone out on making their decision on their next vehicle.

Reliable, comfortable, speedy and stylish.
My Kia has it all. I bought it because we used to visit the grandparents a lot which means lots of road trips. And I love to drive. Having a reliable vehicle is very important to me. This car is a very smooth ride and the acceleration is awesome. I love that I can easily accelerate when getting on the freeway and trying to pass other vehicles. I love the double sunroof, one that opens and one that does not. Cruise control is important for travelers which my car has. Rearview camera is very handy. Definitely helps kids pass the 3 point turn on drivers tests and with parallel parking. Sound system is great. I love that the steering wheel has functions for both radio, cruise control and phone calls. Having Bluetooth makes for easy hands-free driving. And a navigation system! I do not need a subscription to use it. I am sold on Kia forever. Reliable, comfortable and stylish.

I really like that it has plenty of storage and lots of space for my dogs and friends when we all go on trips. The back up camera is really useful and the seat warmers have really been great in the winter. I do not however like how things are always breaking and it is so expensive to repair them because you have to get it fixed at a Kia dealership.

Fit for small families, smooth drive.
The battery is electric which can be nice, however it has the potential to short itself. And without triple a or a self jumper, getting yourself out of that situation can be tricky. Also, I suppose the gas mileage is not that great either. But it is a smooth ride with lots of room.

My car has been in my family for years! It was first my moms car to lug 4 children around in then it was passed down to me at the age of 19. We have had the car for 10 years now and it is still in great condition. There is a few things that had to be fixed over the past year but that is only because it is getting older. I love the Sorento. I went from a minivan to this car, and was still able to carry my 4 children with luggage on top. There is an optional third row, heated seats, handles road very well, excellent gas mileage, compact. Just basic maintenance on car. Wear and tear fixes. The rear view camera could be a little bigger for viewing purposes. Spacious room in car, runs and drives good. You do have to watch the liquid levels, always checking oil and antifreeze. It does have some sputtering issues while getting on the highway, but once to get your speed it goes.

The cup holders barely hold an average cup and cannot really have more than 1 cup in the front. Kia Sorento does not have a lot of room if you have kids/car seats. We had to replace a transmission the first month we had it and have had issues ever since.

Sunroof dream of the world
I love my car. Gas is very efficient and used as an everyday mom mobile. It seats seven and that's more than enough room for the very little things that I do on a daily basis. I love how much space I have in the vehicle and it also has a DVD player in the back and a double sunroof.

Nice, reliable SUV for the price.
Good car/SUV for the price. Stylish, roomy, affordable to maintain, great gas mileage. Nice color choices. Not fast on the start but that's expected with a 4 cylinder. Makes traveling by car somewhat comfortable on long or short road trips. I would consider buying again.

My experience purchasing a used Kia Sorento.
Lots of mechanical problems in the 2 years of purchased that are over $1000 each time. Main seal went in the first 90 days. The tires tend to wear down very quickly, in less than a year. The electrical system is mixed up. When I push volume up on steering wheel it does the opposite or something else.

Comfortable; great storage.
Good gas mileage. Very reliable. Comfortable, smooth drive. Seating is extremely adjustable for all heights. Great storage space with fold down back seats. Easy to use dashboard features. Bluetooth works great & speakers/microphone are perfect for hands free calls.

Love my Kia Sorento and I'd buy another one!
My wife and I love the Sorento as it is very versatile in its use. When we fold down the back seat, we use it to haul things around.
