The 2019 Kia Sorento lasts around 250,000 miles, with some oil consumption and windshield issues reported. At $18,950 to $37,500, it’s a great value for a midsize SUV with a practical cabin and a lot of technology features.

likeFilled The Good
The cabin has upscale materials, the suspension is very smooth on rough roads and it’s very quiet inside.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The cargo space is smaller than some other SUVs, it’s not very fast, and the legroom in the third row is limited.

Is the 2019 Kia Sorento a Good Used SUV?

  • Overall Rating 8/10 – 2019 is a good year for the Kia Sorento since it offers good reliability and some of the latest tech. Owner reviews praise the long warranty, low repair costs, along with the upscale cabin for the cost.
  • Interior, Comfort & Cargo 8/10 – Interior materials are more luxurious than other SUVs, the seats are comfortable, although cargo space is lower than some competitors.
  • Reliability 8/10 – There are no widespread complaints on the 2019 Sorento. Avoid models from 2011 through 2016 which have widespread engine failures. Newer models from 20172022 are much more reliable as they age.

  • Value 8/10 – The 2019 Kia Sorento is cheaper than many other midsize SUVs on the market with a nice interior and good technology, making it a great value.

Silver Kia Sorento with black wheels.
This car is amazing. Wish it had a CD player. It drives nice and is economical. It also has a lot of room. The apple car play settings are nice and I enjoy the back up camera. I am a new fan of Kia and will always co sided Kia when buying a new vehicle.

Easy to unload. Do not have to bend in as you do with a trunk.
Love it. Sits up high enough so I can see better. Has enough power to help maneuver in interstate traffic. Has a fresh clean look. Like the hatchback, makes it easy to unload groceries. Also like that you now only have to have the oil changed every 6000 miles.

Kia Sorento, my best car I ever had.
Excellent car, no problems at all. Very reliable. Very comfortable for long and short trips. Use little gas. Extremely luxurious for its price, the performance of the car is super excellent. Very good radio and sound speakers. Excellent GPS. Enough space for all the family.

2019 Kia Sorento. Great vehicle and worth the price.
I have owned three kids and have had no issues. My Sorento is the only Kia SUV that I have owned and it exceeds expectations for the price. Has tons of features including a third row. The maintenance team at the Kia store is awesome any time I take it in for scheduled maintenance as well.

Affordable luxury: quality on a budget
Our Kia Sorento is wonderful! It feels like a luxury car, but is affordable. I like the simplicity of the control panels. I love the quiet and smooth ride. It's so roomy and easy to shift the seats around to either give more seating or more storage. The existing stereo has great sound quality.

2019 Kia Sorento 4 doors 7 seats lots of room
I've had my car for about 6 months and it's the best vehicle I've ever owned, drives extremely smooth, very reliable. Middle seats recline great for my kids when I'm traveling and all seats could fold down. Lots of space. Warranty is amazing I would have to give it a 10/10

Quality and loaded with options for a low price.
None this is the 3rd Kia I've owned and I've never had to take any of them in for work or recalls. They get excellent gas mileage and you get a lot of options for the price you pay. I also love how you don't hear road noise while driving down the interstate at higher speeds.

Best thing is the analyst of yourself and will tell you if should take a break.
Really reliable. Has many key features to it that make your drive easier. One key feature I enjoy is the miles you have left on your car till you need to fill up again. Very good headlights and great road assistance where if you are not in the side of your road it will turn for you.

Problem with breaks squeaking and gas smells
The car has less than 3000 miles and the breaks are squeaking. I has noticed gas smells and the mileage is horrible..It's a great looking car but I am worried if maybe we have purchased a lemon. This is our 5th Sorento and we have never had this problem before!

Hesitating on acceleration V6
Agree totally on the acceleration problem...was told by the dealership that it was a feature not a fault. Seriously?!!
accountCircle Randy
Hesitating on acceleration 3.3 V6
This seems to be extremely sluggish on throttle response and or the tranny when you leave a rolling stop or slow speed acceleration you have to keep pushing the throttle and it still acts like your not giving it any throttle or you have to jam it like your in a race to get response. Very frustrating when in town. Dealer says nothing wrong. Really? Come on KIA... Update the firmware or atleast try to fix this.

It's not as good as a grand Cherokee.
It is not a Jeep grand Cherokee. No sunroof. Not aggressive looking. Slow. No heated seats no push start no auto trunk close or open no keyless entry.

Light, basic, lane switch lights are a plus.
I purchased this car because I needed something asap and the price was fair. If I had time to search I would have gone in a different direction. The car drives nice and light but that is all good I can say about it. I needed a third row but for being a three row vehicle it still seems tight. I also am not a fan of the style of the car. I would rate this car as basic, nothing special.

It is been reliable! Low maintenance.
It is too small and compact to be considered an SUV, and it is not good for a larger family. There is next to no trunk space when the 3 row seats are up, if the third row is up I can fit my stroller or my diaper bag not both. And it is not great on fuel economy. I drive my kids to school and back which is about a mile and groceries twice a month and I have to fill my take every other week.

What Do Critics Say About the Kia Sorento?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Kia Sorento offers a mix of the latest features and great functionality bundled together, with high owner satisfaction scores as it ages.
  • Edmunds rates the 2019 Sorento at 3.9/5, enjoying the long ten-year warranty coverage, but doesn’t like the lackluster performance from the weak engines.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Sorento a 4.3/5, praising the premium interior and creature comforts, but owners don’t like the relatively low towing capacity.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Kia Sorento Have?

Common problems reported on the 2019 Kia Sorento include excessive oil consumption, cracked windshields, along with issues with the stereo system. Overall, these problems are similar to some other midsize SUVs, leading to average repair costs as the Sorento ages.

Excessive oil consumption is the most widespread complaint from 2019 Sorento owners, showing up within the first 20,000 miles. Usually, the extra oil consumption is just part of the normal operation of the engine. We recommend checking the oil regularly to make sure it’s full, and adding oil as needed.

Cracked windshields are another problem mentioned on some 2019 Kia Sorento models within the first 2,500 miles. There were some production runs of windshield glass, which were weaker and more susceptible to cracking. If your windshield breaks, you will need to replace it, costing around $600.

Issues with the stereo system have also been reported by Kia Sorento owners at around 1,000 miles. There are software updates available for the stereo system, which improves its reliability. Most dealerships will install these updates for free, while others charge around $50 for labor.

There are two recalls on the 2019 Kia Sorento, which is similar to other midsize SUVs from the same year. The most serious recall is for the tow hitch wiring harness, which may overheat, increasing the risk of a fire. Kia will replace the harness on affected models for free. The other recall covers the rearview camera, which Kia will also update for free.

How Long Will the 2019 Kia Sorento Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Kia Sorento can last around 250,000 miles, which is a bit shorter than some of the longest lasting SUVs like the Toyota Highlander. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to many competitors, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $471 per year.

As a used 2019 Sorento reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history report, owners should be prepared to replace the fuel tank pressure sensor for $225, radiator hose costing $350, along with the vehicle speed sensor, which costs $475.

Not a single issue. I still have a 2014 Kia Sorento. No issues. No problem. Any issue is so minor that the dealer handles it in under 30 minutes.

accountCircle Kristy M

Yes very reliable. I have not had any problems with it and hold that I do not in the future. I would recommend it.

accountCircle Erik R

It is very reliable. Only had minor problems so far. But I would say it is one of the most reliable cars around. Nothing can compare or come closer.

accountCircle Harper W

I have yet to have a problem with my Kia. It holds a lot of gas and the engine is amazing. Y only complaint is how jerky the car is in sport mode.

accountCircle Sakera W

Very reliable, I have no problems with my vehicle. If something did go wrong my warranty would cover.

accountCircle Tonia s

We find it to be very reliable. We have had no problems or issues with it. We have had one oil change so far and no other issues.

accountCircle joanne l

None so far, I feel I need to drive more. I am happy with it right now. I just bought in October 2019.

While the third row is best suited for children, it remains adequate for shorter journeys with adults. It has the most updated secure security system.
My vehicle is a 2019 Kia Sorento. I have had this car for 6 months and have had no problems at all yet. It is very reliable and very comfortable. It features rear viewing for backing up, heated seats, and Alexa. It also has 4 wheel drive. I would highly recommend this specific car.

Just an all around good vehicle to have.
No problems with the vehicle, the performance is great and very reliable. Comfort level is nice for me, I am over 6'5 and 290 lbs. I didn't go for any frills just the standard features. Am, FM, disc radio, a/c, 3rd row seating, backup camera, collision warning system.

Sorento touring package a must.
The vehicle is great with all the safety features, and drives great. I have the touring package, which I feel is a must. The only issue I have had is the transmission seems to be sluggish at times and defaults back to comfort mode upon startup. You need to change the mode regularly. Smart mode is not that 'smart'.

Kia Sorento with 3rd row seating is very roomy and comfortable.
I have had no issues with my vehicle, and have had it for 6 months. It runs great and has plenty of room. It is also pretty decent on gas, which is helpful because I drive a lot for work. The only thing I do not love is having to get the oil changed every 3000 miles, but I used to have a Volkswagen, and only had to get oil changes once a year.

I have had no problems. It is roomy and runs like a top. The maintenance is easy to get done. It has great gas mileage and is quite as a mouse when you are driving on the highway. The Kia Sorento is a wonderful vehicle and is the perfect SUV for a family four.
I love the Kia Sorento. It is very spacious and has tons of room in the back of the third row option is laid flat. It has high roof which is nice for being six foot tall. The interior is easy to keep clean and the dash is easy to keep in good condition. I have had zero issues with the car and it runs very smoothly. It has different drive modes including sport, eco, and comfort. If you are taking a long road trip the comfort option is very nice and makes for a very relaxing trip. The back up camera is very handy and shows a large portion of the area when backing up. I would recommend this car to anyone who has a family of four because it fits everyone and their things. If you have more than four people riding and are using the third row then there is not a ton of storage space but enough if you are not going anywhere for a long time.

Overall I enjoy my Kia, only issue was the screen glitching and freezing up.
My vehicles performs well, it's a seven seater so it accommodates for a large amount of people or for a family. It did take me some time to figure out and navigate through the setting on the screen. One problem I do have frequently is the touch screen glitching or freezing up. One trip I took a put my vehicle in reverse and that triggers the backup camera to come on, but when I put my car back in drive it was frozen on the back camera and even after shutting the car off it didn't correct the issue. After a few hours passed with the car shut off it started back working.

2019 Kia Sorento sxl is a very stylish option for anybody.
2019 Kia Sorento sxl is great option if you want a reliable, comfortable, stylish transportation for a moderate price. I love the black leather seats which have heat and cooling. When you step on the gas that turbo kicks in and you are passing in a flash. For a mid size car there is a lot of space for groceries and supplies.

My car has been the best for my family!
The Kia Sorento was my first car purchase, and I have not had any issues with it thus far. The ride is absolutely smooth, and the handling is smooth as well. I have only had the vehicle for a year. It handles curves very well. There seems to be a little lag when going up a hill as if it is weighed down but we do not have many hills where I live so it does not affect me all the time. Other than that, it has been a great car!

This SUV has does not have much power ( pick-up) it also makes a loud running noise while is driving. I returned to the dealer multiple times and the problem seems to be across the board on Kia's. I am very unsatisfied with my choice of vehicle and would opt for a v6.

It is too small and compact to be considered an SUV, and it is not good for a larger family. Love my Kia Sorento! Comfort and style, great for a road trip!
It runs very nice, smooth, and quiet. It averages about 16 to 24 mpg in town and about 30 plus mpg highway. It has 3rd row seating. I do not like that the takeoff is not quite as quick as I would like. I also wish it had a memory for the front seats and a lumbar extension also. It has been a very reliable, responsible vehicle. The ac is very powerful and like that it has dual sided controls. Very pleased with this vehicle and the size and comfort.
accountCircle Erin S on May 3, 2021
The perfect SUV for any parent.
I love my Sorento! It handles very well in any weather condition. The back seat has your typical 40/60 split to access the third row. The third row is great for kids, but very tight for any adults to sit in. Without the third row up, I can easily fit groceries and my double stroller! The hatch even has two hidden storage compartments perfect for storing extra baby gear! The backseat easily fits two rear facing car seats with both the driver and passengers being comfortable. It's definitely a mom/dad type of car! The seats are very comfortable, and the dual heat/air is wonderful. There are rear vents in the back to help keep the temperatures in the vehicle comfortable for everyone. The android auto aspect has a lot of flaws. Its freezes alot, I would prefer it to connect 100% through Bluetooth.

The only thing I do not like about it is the turn signals are really loud and annoying. I think it is meant to be that way to prevent you from driving 20 miles with your signal light on but it gets on my nerves real quick.

Great vehicle for a reasonable price.
Great fit and feel. Sonars had an issue when purchased and ended up having to be replaced, however, it was all under warranty. Fits 6 adults easily with plenty of legroom. When traveling with 4 adults, a quick fold down of the 3rd row seating made it easy to carry sports equipment and all our luggage.

I appreciate the 3rd row seats that can go up & down easily.
The 2019 Kia Sorento is very comfortable and easy to drive. I appreciate that it has a lot of space on the inside with the 3rd row seating, but does not look big on the outside. It is a great car for traveling, moving, driving around town, or taking on a vacation.

It's a white 2019 Kia Sorento lx v6. Spacious and comfortable.
I rate the car a 10 overall. Its practical and simple but has everything that you need. It has 3 rows and 7 seats so it's great for a large family. It's a good price and it's great on gas. It's very spacious and comfortable. It has apple carplay, it shows you how many miles you have left until you need to refill the gas tank. I've never had any problems with the SUV. It's a very reliable vehicle!

Sleek smooth Sorento, everything to ask for.
I love the handles of the vehicle. Very good brake response, roomy and has a sleek sophisticated design that gives it a classy yet adventurous style. The third row is perfect for the kids. The dressing is comfortable which make long rides a breeze. The drive options are actually great. As I prefer eco mode, I am able to switch to sport mode by just pushing button.

My 2019 black Kia Sorento.
None. Haven't had any problems. Rides smooth, spacious, and love the gas mileage. I love the color and the cloth seat. The third row is perfect. Wish it had more trunk space but can add storage on top so that is ok. I love the backup camera just wish it notified when something is close.

2019 Kia Sorento is reliable safe and stylish.
No problems other than with the auto air which I just disabled. Dealer is always super nice too. Smooth ride. Plenty of room for my family of 5. My 17 old started off driving it and I felt very comfortable letting him drive it and knowing he was safe.

Love the Sorento for its gas mileage and great features!
The Sorento is a fantastic mid size SUV. It gets great gas mileage, has great storage and tech features. Prior, I had a highlander which I moved but was looking for something with lower payments. I am so glad I switched from my highlander to the Sorento!

Great family/ travel vehicle.
It is roomy and comfortable. We travel a lot. Gets great gas mileage. We've never had any issues with it. It is extremely reliable. I love the seat warmers and radio. I am really short, but the seat moves up and forward so I am always able to reach the pedals and see comfortably. I have a 1 year old that is easy to get in and out of the car.

Wider and longer with third row seats.
I like that the 2019 Sorento is wider and longer and also includes third row seating that folds up. The only thing I don't like is a slight lag in transition between gears. Almost like a transmission lag? It's not as smooth as my 2011 Sorento, but I love the functional design.
accountCircle Sh A on March 22, 2021
The technology dashboard for radio and apple car play is awesome.
We really love this Sorento! We appreciate the technology features as well as the fuel efficiency. To be honest we also really love how the base model have the 3rd row seating. I would have loved a v6 in the SUV but I also love the fuel efficiency that the 4 cylinder comes with. All in all is a fantastic midsize crossover with great tech and easy to learn basic functions.

Great little vehicle overall.
Very reliable in the two years we've had it, even had free oil changes for the first 35,000 miles. Loaded with all kinds of features even though it is only the base model. Only problem we've encountered is it is a little on the small side for our large family of 4. Not much leg room in the back seats.

Third row SUV, great value with a tiny trunk.
For a third row SUV at a fair price, this car will work. My biggest disappointment is the lack of trunk space. The third row sacrifices any extra room in the back. The vehicle is very easy on gas. That being said for the price point it is a good value, and the third row itself is spacious enough for children.

Great car I love the seven seat availability.
Great car, love the interior space, beautifully done. Outside looks good too. Good all wheels drive condition I feel very safe driving in the snow and inclement weather. It does not spend a lot on gas even though is a large car that fits seven people.

The center console is nice, deep and their are USB plug ins everywhere in the car.
I really enjoy my vehicle. The color makes it so that I have to wash it frequently but it keeps it looking nice. It gets great gas mileage and has a lot of fancy features that older cars do not have. Give it a spin on the road and I am sure you'll love it!

Beautiful, smart car with a beautiful yet comfortable interior.
It is very smooth, Bluetooth connection for music and USB ports for charging phones, leather seats, seat warmers, it's an overall great car. Very beautiful and very reliable. It has a camera for backing up or blind spots, touch screen interface for music,GPS,texting or calling, etc.

For the price there are a lot of features that you'd normally have to pay extra for with another car manufacturer
Family SUV that feels like a luxury car for a economy price. Its comfortable and has power. I love it.

Not too big - just sufficient.
I absolutely love my Kia. I have three kids and all who play sports and it fits us nicely, along with my husband. It is not too big, like a suburban and not too small like a Sportage. The seats are like a microfiber, not a cloth but not leather, where water just wipes right off. When all three rows are up, there is not very much room in the trunk however I typically just put my youngest in the back and leave one seat down for us to put in sports equipment.

The Kia Sorento is the best small SUV ever!
This vehicle has been great. It is spacious enough for my family and drives great. Interior is very nice with a 3rd row seat. Gas mileage in the city and highway is good. Extra items like Bluetooth, radio system trunk space when seats are let down is good. Great vehicle for a family.

Really nice looking. Has 3 rows.
This is our first foreign car purchase. We are satisfied with the SUV.Price was great compared to other similar vehicles. Looks like a higher priced model. There was a problem that was taken care of by Kia.It was a manufacturer issue. We have no issues. My husband wishes it was a 6 cylinder not 4.

Kia Sorento, better-priced, reliable, powerful.
The Kia Sorento has great power for a midsize SUV. It could tow our boat and a full car of people. It has not had any problems in the first year, is comfortable, reliable and has good features for a good price compared to similar other makes and models. We test drove many cars much more expensive and they had similar power, but features were not as nice and not as comfortable.

An honest review of the Kia Sorento from a member of a family of nine.
My 2019 Kia Sorento is my family's primary car, and there are about nine of us. This vehicle is used very often and so far it is a decent car. Our Sorento does the job we purchased it for which is getting us to our destination and back. However, it is a basic car with an all black interior and exterior with no extra features. I call it the “soccer mom” car. So far the interior is holding up, the a/c is still in good condition especially living in Arizona the temperature during the summer is extremely deadly! The heater works as well; the interior seating is still in good condition no matter how many times we spilled coffee on it. We really like the leniency of the back seats for comfort. They fold down or back if needed. We carry our three very large German shepherd dogs in the back and they fit comfortably. In terms of the exterior: in my opinion, the car is super bulky; when I drive it I feel like I cannot see my blind spot in the front side! Right now, our brakes are not still enough and our warranty quit on us which is a pain! Kia needs to figure out better terms! The whole car shakes when we brake at a stop light. It is pretty dangerous if you ask me. Overall, I think the Kia Sorento is a generic car which functions to drive you to your required destination safely and it may be better if you opt out for the other more awesome add-ons.

Great family small SUV for the price.
The Kia Sorento is a great basic car. It is roomy even with the third row seating. It seemed like the v4 version struggled a bit, so that is why we went with the v6 version. The only problem that we have ever had is with the apple CarPlay. It would cause the entire screen to have to restart after freezing, but other than that it has worked fine.

Great new replacement for a minivan.
Car rides smoothly. Third row really helps when the extra friends and family are going on a road trip, or you can stow the third row seat to have extra storage for more groceries. Nice leg room for the front driver and passenger. Two car seats fit comfortably in the middle and a booster in the third row.

Good suv at a very economical price.
This car has many good features. It is an suv that has a third row available for use. Trunk is very roomy. The front and back seats are not has spacious as my previous car ( ford edge). The car performs well on the road.It has many safety features as well. I like the style of the car. It is a nice car and easy to drive and maneuver. The care has 4 different “speeds”. It has a sport speed, economy, a regular speed and one that will use different speeds depending on the road condition. The car gets good gas mileage. It averages 20 to 21 miles per gallon. I did have an issue with it this year. The plastic undercarriage cover came loose and caused some problems. That is the only thing that has gone wrong with the car since I purchased it in october, 2018. The car is a good one for the price that I paid.
