The 2019 Kia Soul lasts around 200,000 miles, with some average brake pedal and horn issues reported. At $12,950 to $26,300, it’s a good value for a compact SUV that’s designed to fit into large cities and still be fun to drive.

likeFilled The Good
The cabin is very roomy, the turbocharged engine is fun to drive and the stereo system has great features.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The base engine is weak, there’s no all-wheel drive available and the suspension is firm with the large wheels.

Is the 2019 Kia Soul a Good Used SUV?

  • Overall Rating 8/10 – 2019 is a good year for the Kia Soul since it’s a reliable small SUV with plenty of room throughout the cabin. Owner reviews praise the technology features, low fuel costs, along with the responsive steering.

  • Gas Mileage 8/10 – Fuel economy is good at up to 28 MPG, offering 397 miles of range out of the 14.2 gallon tank. Gas costs are $4 cheaper than average at $218 per month.
  • Value 8/10 – The 2019 Kia Soul is cheaper than many other small SUVs on the market with good features, making it a great value for shoppers on a budget.

Great all around vehicle!
This is the first car that I have bought in 15 years. As soon as I test drove it, I knew it was the car for me. It is very spacious, and has many safety features. I like being able to sit up higher so I can see the road better, and the roof is high so I have plenty of head space. I love that the car is a goldilocks car... Not too big, and not too small but just right! I highly recommend Kia and the Kia soul to anyone! Great car for a great price!

The Kia soul with the empty oil tank.
The vehicle is great! The Kia soul is strong with the best warranty among all vehicles. That being said I am driving on the road and all of a sudden the engine goes from on to dead in a matter of seconds. The engines broke. Once getting diagnosed it was determined that the vehicle was being driven with little to no oil in the vehicle. The crazy part was I got an oil change 1 week prior. Upon inspection it looked as though the service department forgot to put the oil cap back on. And drained the oil.

Great car for the right price
Great car for small family. Not only is it economical and has great gas mileage, it comes with a 10 year powertrain warranty, 5 year roadside assistance. Extra storage available in the hatch under floor mat, as well as large glove box and center console.

The Kia soul is very reliable and cost efficient.
The Kia soul is very reliable. Plenty of room in the small vehicle. We have had no issues. We enjoy the have the radio controls on the steering wheel and having our phone calls connect through the car. We would recommend this car to anyone needing a cost efficient and reliable car for a low price.

19 Kia soul: a comfy ride.
This is the best car I have ever owned. Only complaints would revolve around the dealership. I am a big guy but it fits me just fine. Ice cold ac, drives like a cloud. Actually, the sound could punch harder if I am being honest. But other than that it has exceeded my expectations.

This Kia has my heart and soul.
I was amazed at how spacious such a little car could be! I love driving it long or short distance. Gas mileage is great in the city a little less than great outside of the city. There are two things I do not love - the trunk is not very big and the gas tank is smaller than my old car. Both of those things I would trade again for this car though! It is wonderful!

Great on gas and good for hauling.
I love my Kia soul. It is big and I can haul most things. It is great on gas and it can really fly when put to the test. I got mine in a dark greenish grey, I would prefer back if they have it because it comes with a red pinstripe. Long story short it is good for hauling small to medium sized things and it is good on gas. Can go up too 304 miles before having to refill.

Great for commuting on the highway in any weather.
It is reliable and comfortable and is a great car for commuting to and from work. I have small kids and it's difficult to put anything besides them and their book bags into the car. Storage is very limited and when I grocery shop I cannot do it with them or anything else in the car.

Poor gas mileage

Do not buy a Kia soul. This is the worst choice I have made on a vehicle.
This is the first time I have had a 4 cylinder car and I hate it. No pick up. The seats are too low and the brakes seem to grind even though the car does not even have 10k miles the sound system is not great standard issue. And not enough storage room in the back and does not handle well in the snow.

Great vehicle for singles!
I loved the look of the soul at first sight! In hindsight, I honestly couldn't afford a brand new vehicle, but loved it so much I went ahead with the purchase!. As I am the first and only owner, it has shown itself to be reliable. The car is spacious for my husband and myself but I must say I do not recommend it for a family vehicle. I have 2 teenage boys who are not as comfortable as they could be in a different vehicle, as we enjoy long drives to NY for instance (approximately 1010 miles). I find the passenger seat to be a bit uncomfortable as well. The car is safe and perfect for two. We are considering passing this onto our 18 year old and choosing another car for our family.

The Kia soul is an excellent basic car.
The Kia soul is a very basic vehicle. The vehicle is very dependable and has extremely good visibility due to it is large windows. The Kia soul has excellent fuel economy. The steering is very tight and responsive and feels much like a more expensive vehicle.

Kia soul - a sharp car but not top of the line for Kia.
I love the performance of the Kia soul. It drives nicely, responds well, and gets good gas mileage. Additionally, the sound system is spectacular. However, I am very disappointed with the interior of the car. The interior plastic is very cheap and scratches very easily. I have had a Kia Sedona since 2006 that has stood up to wear and tear more than the Kia soul has in just over a year. The plastic interior side panels are fading and look horrible. For an $18,000 car, I would expect an interior to last and look good for many years.

What Do Critics Say About the Kia Soul?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Kia Soul is a great, practical small SUV with abundant interior space, which gets high owner satisfaction scores as it ages.
  • Edmunds rates the Kia Soul at 4.4/5, enjoying the long list of standard tech features, but doesn’t like that all-wheel drive is not available.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Soul a 4.2/5, praising the long standard warranty on it, but owners don’t like the slow engine.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Kia Soul Have?

Common problems found on the 2019 Kia Soul include a soft brake pedal, the horn failing, along with excessive oil consumption. Overall, these problems are similar to some other small cars on the market, while repair costs are cheaper than some of the competition.

A soft brake pedal is the most widespread complaint on the 2019 Kia Soul, showing up within the first 5,000 miles. Owners report the brake pedal will travel all the way to the floor before engaging. Usually, it’s a sign of a brake system with air in it. Bleeding the brakes and topping off with fluid is typically covered under warranty for free on a car this new.

The horn failing is another problem mentioned by some Soul owners at roughly 1,000 miles. There are some horns which just had production run issues and will need to be replaced. On a car this new Kia dealership will replace the horn assembly under warranty for free, although out of warranty it’s around $300.

Excessive oil consumption has also been mentioned on some higher mileage Kia Soul models at around 100,000 miles. Usually, it’s a sign of some gaskets in the engine wearing out, and needing to be replaced. Changing out gaskets costs around $800, since it’s a labor intensive process.

There’s only one recall on the 2019 Kia Soul, which is better than some other compact vehicles on the market from the same year. The recall covers the air bag system not deploying in an accident. Kia will update or replace the controller for free on affected models.

How Long Will the 2019 Kia Soul Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Kia Soul can last around 200,000 miles, which is shorter than some other compact SUVs like the Toyota C-HR. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to the competition, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $387 per year.

As a used 2019 Kia Soul reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history report, owners should be prepared to replace the brake master cylinder reservoir for $140, radiator hose costing $250, along with the sunroof motor, which costs around $500.

accountCircle Elaina B

No, I have only had my car for a about a year, but in that year I have traveled almost 20,000 miles and had no issues.

accountCircle Laura D

I have not had any issues at all with my car. It has been extremely reliable. I always make sure to keep up with the scheduled maintenance as well.

accountCircle Janet R

My Kia soul is very reliable. It has not given any trouble and I have driven it far it is a smooth ride.

accountCircle Gary B

No problems. I take it in for regular check ups and oil changes. It doesn't take much to maintain. If there is something wrong the dealer will tell me what is wrong then I'll decide if I want to fix it myself or take it somewhere else.

accountCircle Brittany B

The only annoyance is that the tire pressure light comes on a lot, but eventually goes out. I've never had a car with tire pressure notification issues like this.

accountCircle Thelma S

My 2019 Kia Soul is very reliable and stops smoothly & quickly. I have had no problems with my Kia Soul. This is my 2nd Kia Soul. I owned a 2016 Kia Soul & had no problems with that one. I just happened to be involved in an accident of which there were no injuries except to the car.

accountCircle Lisa B

It is reliable. Sometimes the key will not turn in the switch, but no other major problems have occurred.

accountCircle Mohammed A

No it has no press long as you keep up with regular oil changes and maintenance appointments. I have never been stranded.

I live in a mountainous area with lots of rain in the spring and fall, and snow in winter. I never have any problems with how my Kia handles on the winding mountain roads. The traction is great and the car is very stable. I use my Kia in my business, delivering eggs to customers in many of the surrounding communities. It is important I be able to get fresh eggs to my customers per the scheduled delivery dates and times, and my Kia gets me where I need to go, when I need to get there.

2019 Kia soul: great car for smaller families!
I bought my car early in 2019- the only problem I have had was with the computer system. Which the dealership fixed at no charge to me. I have not had any other issues. We've had our Kia soul for about 2 months now and we love it. The reverse camera is a lifesaver. We also like the eco option. This car is amazing on gas. We get an average of 32 miles to the gallon, which is great when gas prices are through the roof! The seats feel like they hug you, and are very comfortable! We have the base option so we don't have power seats, which we miss a little bit, but it isn't a deal breaker. The 7 inch display in the dash is very convenient. We love all of the plug options, and we really don't have any major complaints! We love our Kia soul!

The plus side of Kia soul.
Compact on the outside, but roomy and comfortable on the inside! There’s plenty of head room for any height. Lots of legroom in the back seat and a pretty decent sized trunk with hidden compartments underneath. Gas mileage is pretty good too! Easy to see out of and rides nicely.

Very nice and compact car.
It is a very cute car that is easy to drive, brakes are nice and light. It is also easy to navigate on narrow streets and a breeze to park because of its compactness and flat back. I also left it for a couple of months without driving and when I returned, it started again without having to use jumper cables! I was really surprised.

Kia soul is great and would recommend.
For being such a small car on the outside it is very spacious on the inside. It has power and it does get up and go. It is a great car for a small family. It holds a lot and the seats fold up to make more room for hauling. It is eco friendly for gas and has great gas mileage.

My soul review: I wish that it would have came with the self starting remote.
Limited trunk space. No leg room on back seats. Great gas mileage. The information screen is extremely small. Not good on the highway. I don't like the color. But it was the only color available besides white. Back seat does not. Fold down. Completely not self starting.

Love my 2019 roomy beautiful Kia soul just drive one you'll own it.
My Kia soul very comfortable setting. Has the backup camera very helpful. The phone coming over radio is a much needed safety feature. Inside is very roomy and my husband is a large man and he sits comfortable in this car. The gas mileage is great. I fill the tank with about 26 dollars.

I love the look of the car.
I wish it came with an automatic trunk opener. I wish it had a little more power. I like the head room. I like the leg room in the front and back seats. I like that the back seats fold down. I love the steering wheel features. I wish it had a CD player and not just a port.

Kia soul 2019, less than 17000 miles.
My cat is a great hatchback. It has Bluetooth capability and has very low mileage. It is very comfortable, there is a cigarette burn in the backseat. The smell of the smoke is gone from the car. I would buy this car again if I had to choose I would prefer a dark blue to the champagne grey I have now.

Personal information about my Kia soul.
I like my Kia soul overall. The only issue I've had was water collecting in the condenser. The back seat is fairly roomy. The fog lights are very nice to have. It also handles while in the snow. The high beam light isn't visible with driving if one is sitting normal. I personally need to lean forward to see it. I know someone who is 6 feet 6 inches and they can drive this care.

General stuff. My opinion. Just talking.
I runs well, great on gas hwy. I don't like the technology. It doesn't show my tire pressure or oil percentage. Its has a good amount of space but works well for 4 people. The look is nice and eye catching. The cost should be lower. I could have something way nicer for what I am paying already.

Make your soul your own..
I love the performance of the Kia soul. It has a good amount of room and versatility. It has a lot of power that you wouldn't think this vehicle has. It is comfortable and you have the ability to adjust seats and other aspects to specific levels that you want.

My soul is one of the best purchases I have made.
It rides nicely. The mileage is great and is fun to drive. Haven’t had any issues or problems since I bought it. There is lots of room, Enron though it is a smaller SUV. The base model does not have a lot of extras but it is a great vehicle. I would recommend it to anyone.

My Kia soul + has a newer system compatible with android auto/apple CarPlay.
I love the feel, aesthetic, and comfort of this vehicle. The mileage could be better, but it is better than my old car. The system came with android CarPlay, which has immediately enriched my navigation and media experience while driving. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this vehicle.

I like the way my car looks and that it is a unique shape and color way.
I find my vehicle comfortable and easy to maintain. It gets decent mileage but not great. It has a good amount of space for a smaller car. It is very useful for my commute as a single person. I have had no issues with it and I find it easy to adjust the settings and learn about the car.

It is a great and fantastic car.
I don't have problem, very comfortable, very economic, dynamic, power, fast, beautiful, not expensive, is a car for people like me, strong, a great warranty for the brand, a excellent dealers and people work in this company. Kia is recommended for people like adventure and like travel with car.

Great colors to choose from and is really great for a single household.
I would recommend this car as a great car to buy for a high school student, college student, or for someone for is really on their own. Not really the type of car to use as a family car and has a small trunk space. Nice sound and bass system. Rides really smooth and efficient. Nice interior and seats have a really nice comfort.

The 2019 Kia soul is good on technology. It is a good compact car.
It had some brake problems. It is very good on gas. It is very efficient and a good car for its price. There is a enough room. It seats 5 people. It is pretty comfortable. The interior is very nice. The ac works well. I would've recommend buying this car. It has not had many problems. The drive is very smooth.

Kia soul: why this car is home on the road.
This car is really amazing, it drives so smooth and I love the interior frame. I feel like I have really in my own cockpit. It handles extremely well and the response time is amazing, which is something super important to me. It is a very nice car, very modern but super spunky! I would definitely recommend this car!

I love my Kia, I feel like it is a great little zippy car to have.
I have had my car for almost a year and have had almost no issues. I went to get in my car one day and the check engine light was on. A warning immediately showed up on my screen and gave me the information I needed to tell the dealership. They also gave me a number to call right from my app to set an appointment. It was just and update to the engine (whew!) but the experience was awesome. I felt like my car was actually smarter than me.

Economy car with lots of add-ons and features.
Car has some issues getting up to speed quickly. I notice this especially when the stop light turns green and I need to go — it takes an extra second or two for the car to get up to speed. I also notice that occasionally, there’s a mold smell that comes through the vents when you switch from indoor climate to pulling air from the outside.

Comfortable 2019 Kia soul.
Very comfortable, features a backup camera, hands free calling etc, seats are really comfortable, back seats go down for extra space/storage, also features speed volume control, USB/charging ports all around the front console, Bluetooth connectivity included.

Great style and safety is the best thing in the car.
Its comfy lots of safety controllers it's good in the. Snow it look good has a great style has the automatic stop I wish it had automatic seats the price was not to bad. For all the stuff the car come with the safety stuff help a lot to not get into an accident.

Safe, comfortable and reliable while being easy to drive and functional.
It is a very reliable vehicle that is good on gas. A full tank lasts for a long time. It is spacious and comfortable while also being functional. It drives smooth and is comfortable to drive. There is no way to check oil levels etc. Which can be an issue.

How I love my Kia soul which is very comfortable to drive.
I have had no problems with my vehicle. I am getting better than the average in gas mileage. I like the ability to adjust the seat up or down until I can get it in the right position to make it comfortable to drive. Also there are other features in adjustment of the seat to make driving comfortable. I like the feature of using my phone through the car hands free. This car also has a backup camera making it much easier to park.

Kia soul 2019 automatic review.
The design of the exterior and interior is personally appreciated. It feels comfortable, and every time someone comes into my car, they mention how much bigger the inside is than what they thought. The only problem I have with it is when it shifts. It is an automatic, and if the gas is on the low side and I am trying to speed up quickly (like on a highway for example) it roughly changes. Other than that, it is a very good car and I am very happy and satisfied with it.
