The interior is fairly upscale for an SUV in its price range, the stereo system is easy to use and steering is responsive.

The cargo area is small, fuel costs are higher than some competitors and the suspension is firm.

Lots of room for the family. Fun to drive.
It has all the bells and whistles. Lots of room. Fun to drive. Great for long road trips and room for the doggie in the back to travel with you. They have great customer service and are excellent when an issue may come up. Can go off road and have fun.

All-around excellent car
I have the base model... And it's still an excellent car. It's reliable, comfortable, well-made and gets good mileage. It was a great value and I will own a Kia for life.

Great car, but I am annoyed with the tires!
The only problem I have ever had with my Kia Sportage is the tires. My front tires seem to lose air, one tire developed a flat, and the other front tire took on a nail and had to be replaced because the nail was too close to the sidewall. I have only taken one long trip in the Kia, 1800 miles, and I found that I had to adjust my seating several times in order to stay comfortable.

My 2019 Kia Sportage lx-fun to drive.
No problems. Good on gas, roomy, comfortable, fun to drive. Just have regular maintenance done on it. Have had to have air filters replaced, otherwise no issues at all.The handles well, I have AWD all wheel drive so driving in snow was a snap! Would recommend a Kia to anyone!

Amazing vehicle live the radio.
Love the back up camera and the radio is amazing!! The company I bought it from had been a pain to talk to and to get things done but the actual vehicle is amazing. It heats up quickly and has an amazing air conditioner. I also really enjoy the quiet engine and smooth ride.

I love my car so much! Not only is it the perfect size, but it does not give me any problems whatsoever! This is my second Kia so far, and our sixth one in our family, and I will always recommend a Kia because they have so many amazing features for such a great price, and they're very reliable!

Apple carplay Steering wheel buttons Safety features
I love my car the apple car play is an amazing feature and makes hands free super easy. It connects Bluetooth or by aux and I can access everything from my steering wheel including Siri. Safety features are key and the all wheel drive is great. Super safe car.

The sunroof is a great feature.
I love the car. I love how it is on gas. I love the color. I use the heated seats and wheel often in the winter time. I love the sun roof. I enjoy the leather seats, and the space the car has. I like the Sportage drive feature. The car drives great in the snow, and it feel safe driving it.

Hit your head as you get into car.
Getting in and out is difficult. I am 5'7' and hit my head or have to track my neck to get in. Even my 16 year old hits her head getting in. There is a very bad blind spot when you look to the ef left. The space for people in the front and back is small. My husband has a Kia soul and it has more room.

Kia downfalls and one plus.
Feels like I am driving a large car. No inside appeal. No Wifi options. Way to pricey for model. Horrible in snow and rain. No pick up when on the highway. For extra options like sunroof, price increases dramatically. Only plus is the apple car feature which loads your GPS right on the screen in car.

Not a bad choice in the current market
The gas is very touchy in this car. I suggest driving it in eco mode if you do not want to end up peeling out. Also, it is very difficult to see your blind spot with the way this car was designed. Some pros: it is quick for an SUV, it is very roomy inside and I feel confident my kids will be protected in an accident.

Dangerous problem
Following latest software update the eco stop start has developed restart problems and engine cutting out for no apparent reason.. Kia officially say there is no problem but their staff have experienced similar incidents

Good or bad lemon... There are good and bad but do the good outweigh the bad.
The car overall is good. I would not say great. Sticker price for overall quality is a little high. Noisy cabin at interstate speeds. The dash and hard plastic is not easy to clean. I have the EX AWD and it is HORRIBLE on gas. I live exactly 1 mile from my job and within a mile to grocery stores etc. And my tank of gas only last a week if I'm lucky. Also, it would be great if the dealers and manufacturers made it easier for repairs. Cars are not perfect but should be able to be made right if there are issues with it. But overall it's an okay car.

Unless you plan on hand washing this car don't buy without roof rack
I can't take it to the car wash the roof molding keeps falling off ...I bought a new car so I didn't have to take it to the dealership everytime I wash it .Iam way over 60 and don't hand wash cars anymore. Should have done more research..

Middle seat in back (seats)
The rear middle seat belt is very hard to get at, not only for children, but for adults as well. In case of an accident, I believe this would be a bigger problem if you had to hurry and get the person out of the back middle seat. There seats are uncomfortable on long trips, 200 miles or more.

What Do Critics Say About the Kia Sportage?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Kia Sportage is a competitive small SUV with sporty handling, and good owner satisfaction scores as it ages.
  • Edmunds rates the 2019 Sportage at 4.3/5, enjoying the smooth suspension on rough roads, but doesn’t like the smaller cargo area than some competitors.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Sportage a 4.5/5, praising the high tech features throughout the cabin, but owners don’t like the poor off-road performance.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Kia Sportage Have?

Problems found on the 2019 Kia Sportage include the stereo system locking up, headlight bulbs burning out quickly, and some rare reports of engine knocks. Overall, these problems are similar to other small SUVs on the market, leading to average repair costs as the Sportage ages.

The stereo system locking up is the most widespread complaint from 2019 Sportage owners, showing up at around 1,500 miles. There are software updates available for the touchscreen stereo system, which improves its reliability. Most dealers will install these updates for free during normal servicing, others charge around $50 for labor.

Headlight bulbs burning out quickly has also been reported by some Sportage owners at roughly 15,000 miles. Replacing the bulbs costs around $100 for the pair, there are also some third-party bulbs that may last longer and cost around $150. Bulbs are considered consumable, and just a part that needs to be replaced as the SUV ages.

Rare reports of engine knocks show up on some Sportage models, but are nowhere near as widespread as in earlier years. Usually, the problem shows up within the first 35,000 miles. Replacing the engine is the only way to permanently fix the knock, and usually it’s done under warranty for free.

There are two recalls on the 2019 Kia Sportage, which is better than other small SUVs from the same year. The first recall covers a potential engine fire, while the second covers the tow hitch wiring harness. Kia will replace parts on affected models for free to fix the problems.

How Long Will the 2019 Kia Sportage Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Kia Sportage can last around 200,000 miles, which is shorter than some competitors like the Toyota RAV4. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other compact SUVs, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $432 per year.

As a used 2019 Sportage reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history report, owners should be prepared to replace the purge valve for $150, exhaust manifold gasket costing $220, along with the timing chain tensioner, which costs around $700.

accountCircle Melanie S

So far, it has been very reliable. Any recalls have been immediately handled by notifying us and taken care of. The only problem I have experienced is with the CarPlay app not providing proper sound quality from time to time.

accountCircle Maria G

So far the Kia Sportage has been reliable however the tires it came with were not that great, they keep losing air and we are having to air up to often.

accountCircle Julie M

No problems yet. Still fairly new Kia dealers are friendly personable accommodating incentives involved with routine maintenance.

accountCircle Mike S

So far Kia Sportage has been extremely reliable, I hope it stays like that with proper maintenance of course. It does not have any problems. A very fun ride !

accountCircle Rachel H

Yes it's reliable, good gas mileage, good safety features, seems to start and stop good, no issues with any of the mechanics of the car, no problems that I have noticed

accountCircle Tyler S

Yes, it is very reliable. I have not had any problems since having the vehicle since late December 2018.

accountCircle Toni M

It is reliable. The only problem is the seatbelt in the center. It slaps back against the right side.

accountCircle Julie J

So far, the 2019 Kia Sportage has proven to be very reliable. I have not experienced any problems at this time. I bought the car in December 2018 and, as of this day, it has 4434 miles on it. No problems.

How Is the Technology?

The standard entertainment technology is decent and has a 5-inch touchscreen display with Bluetooth connectivity. Optional upgrades include larger 7 or 8-inch touch screens along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Harman Kardon stereo system.

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Lane keep assist
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Automatic high-beam headlights

Its combined fuel economy is rated at about 26 MPG. The 0-60 MPH time for this engine is roughly 9 seconds, making it competent for most driving scenarios.
  • For those seeking a more spirited driving experience, the Sportage also offers a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, which churns out a robust 240 horsepower. This, too, is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. It has a slightly lower combined fuel economy, hovering around 23 MPG. The increased power from the turbocharger allows this version to sprint from 0-60 MPH in around 6.7 seconds, offering drivers a more exhilarating acceleration when desired.

What Colors Does the Kia Sportage Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Kia Sportage?

The 2019 Kia Sportage is often praised for its comfortable ride and well-appointed interior. Its seats, both in the front and rear, are supportive and spacious, providing ample legroom and headroom for passengers of various sizes. Upholstery options, ranging from standard cloth to available leather, add a touch of luxury and contribute to the overall sense of comfort. The suspension is designed to absorb most road imperfections, providing a smooth ride even on less-than-ideal surfaces.

Additionally, the cabin is well-insulated, minimizing road and wind noise, which further enhances the driving and riding experience. The user-friendly infotainment system, intuitive controls, and an array of standard and available features, like dual-zone automatic climate control and a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heighten the sense of convenience and ease. The 2019 Kia Sportage offers a blend of comfort and refinement that stands out in the compact SUV segment.

How Much Storage Space Does the Kia Sportage Have?

The 2019 Kia Sportage is known for its practical and spacious interior, making it a popular choice among compact SUV enthusiasts. Regarding storage capacity, the Sportage boasts a cargo space of 30.7 cubic feet with the rear seats in use. When the rear seats are folded down, this space expands to an impressive 60.1 cubic feet. To put these numbers in perspective, the 30.7 cubic feet can accommodate multiple suitcases, a stroller, or a weekly grocery haul with ease.

When expanded to 60.1 cubic feet, you have more than enough room for larger items like bicycles, a flat-screen TV, or even small furniture pieces. Apart from the main cargo area, the Sportage is also equipped with small interior storage solutions. These include door pockets, a reasonably-sized glovebox, center console storage, cup holders, and additional compartments for smaller items like sunglasses, smartphones, and personal belongings. Whether embarking on a weekend getaway or a trip to the home improvement store, the 2019 Kia Sportage offers versatile storage options to meet a variety of needs.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The fourth generation of the Kia Sportage was introduced for the 2017 model year.

2015: Minor changes to the available options packages.

2016: Leather seating is now standard on the EX and SX models, touchscreen added to the LX Popular Package.

2017: Fully redesigned for the fourth generation with new technology, engines, and styling.

2018: Improved stain-resistant cloth seating, EX Sport Appearance package now offered.

2019: No changes from earlier models.

2020: Minor exterior styling changes, additional standard safety features, standard 8-inch touchscreen on all models too.

2021: The Nightfall and Nightfall Edition Premium packages replace both the Sunroof and Premium packages.

How Does the Kia Sportage Compare to the Competition?

The 2019 Kia Sportage is a decent compact SUV offering a nice interior and good practicality while still being cheaper than many competitors.

The Hyundai Tucson is another small SUV, which can be found for about $1,500 more. Both the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage are built on the same platform, while the Hyundai Tucson has a more luxurious interior. We recommend the Kia Sportage since it’s cheaper, although it’s worth checking out both to see which you prefer.

The Ford Escape is a popular competitor, which is available in the same price range. The standard technology is better in the Ford Escape, while the Kia Sportage has a nicer interior. We recommend the Kia Sportage since it feels more upscale, although both are similar so it’s worth testing them out.

Yes. The Kia Sportage is a great vehicle for commuting and travel. It is stylish and comfortable and has a decent amount of cargo space. Fuel economy is exceptional for commutes and even better for travel. Passengers have a decent amount of legroom with easily accessible cup holders. Overall, this is a great car for an individual or a small family.

Yes ! I have been driving it since the end of October and I do not have any complaints. The ride is very smooth and the vehicle is very reliable. It is also good on gas, I get an average of 25 mpg which I consider to be very good for an AW drive SUV. The vehicle is also great in the snow. Love the sporty-ness of the vehicle: pedal shifters like a race car, black rims, 4 wheel drive, two tone leather seats. I have owned my Kia for 2 y 3 m, no issues. I do not drive it a lot, due to working close to home, but have taken it on several long trips and it has performed perfectly. The ride is smooth and the transmission is terrific. The sound system and navigation program are nice. I would definitely buy another Kia if I were ever in the market for another new vehicle. The Kia service has been extremely efficient and to know that I have 10 yr 100k mile warranty provides comfort in knowing that I am covered for a long time. I plan on driving my Sportage for as long as I can! The only thing I wish that I had was the full moon roof! The leather seats provide for a comfortable ride and those seat warmers are wonderful for cold winter mornings!

2019 Kia Sportage - great value for money.
Trim level comes with a good number of safety issues. I'drives well and handles well in bad weather. It is very comfortable and easy to drive. It feels like driving a car but has the safety features of an SUV. My only issue is that the sensors act up in snow/rain and beep while driving, which becomes annoying. No other issues so far (1+ years in) and I love it!

The reliable Kia Sportage!
The Kia Sportage is a very reliable car. The interior is very comfortable and the computer system is very convenient. The speaker system is top notch. I haven't had a single problem with my Kia since I have bought it. The speed is great as well. Overall the Kia Sportage is a great vehicle I would highly recommend it.

Kia Sportage is great for anyone who wants space and great gas mileage.
I love the Sportage. It handles easily and gets good gas mileage. It is got Bluetooth connectivity a touch screen radio and backup camera. The seats are comfortable and have the option to be heated in the winter. The heater works very well and warms the car up quickly. It has different driving modes to economize fuel usage.

Plenty of legroom in the front seat!
I have not had any problems with my vehicle. It is good on gas mileage, has great safety ratings and is the perfect size for me. One of the best features for my husband is the legroom in the front seat. He is 6'4 and fits comfortably. The seats are comfortable and the fabric is durable and easy to clean.

The cargo cover placement.
This is our 2nd Kia Sportage. It is the perfect size for an SUV. So far, we have not had any problems, performance meets our expectations and we find this vehicle comfortable and love the features. Just wish all models came with heated seats. Have recommend this car to friends and family.

The headrests are extremely comfortable. They are almost like pillows.
It is comfortable to drive and is reliable. It is a basic model, so it includes the backup camera and touch screen, but no navigation or anything fancy. It is a little smaller than I am used to, but there is still plenty of room in the trunk. I have three car seats in the backseat, which is a little tight.

Kia sportage, a nice ride.
Vehicle has performed beyond expectations. It is comfortable. If anything, the ac/heat works too well. The mileage is decent. The base level of options is very well. The only complaint I may have is living in ne ohio, I wish we had gone for the awd option.

Acceleration issues
I see you have a review from someone called Allie K. Please advise them that I have the same issue and Kia has down all testing and can’t find the same issue.I am presently in negotiations to. Exchange the vehicle. They are also doing a mass investigation to try and find out the cause with Kia all over the world.

Revving issue
I love everything about this car except for a problem I have when trying to accelerate. Sometimes the car just doesn't respond and will get into the 4, 5, even 6000 RPMs while I am trying to accelerate. Basically the car won't move while it's revving. So I have to completely take my foot off the accelerator to get it to calm down, wait, and try again. This has happened more than 10 times, though the service department cannot find an issue. So, now, I don't know what to do. I did call Kia and initiate a case, but there is nothing they can do, since they have not heard of the issue from other Sportage owners. Other than that, it is a great, comfortable, stylish vehicle with lots of bells and whistles.Nice big backup camera, full-length moonroof, heated and air conditioned seats, height adjustable driver and passenger seats, decent gas mileage, and plenty of cargo space. Very pleased! Hope I can resolve the acceleration issue.

Perfect happy medium if you want the space of an SUV, but maneuver of a sedan.
No problems! Perfect compact SUV size! Upgraded package for larger screen display/navigation. Love the 60/40 rear seat fold. Kia warranty is VERY reliable, I feel very safe. I average 26 mpg, which I find great for this vehicle size. Black cherry is the color- looks 3D. Slim and sleek. Spacious without feeling bulky. Tech features are handy but not overwhelming, and maintenance is easy.

Kia Sportage a really great ride!
I love my Sportage. It is pretty and has tons of features. It's like riding on pillows. I did have a soul and I loved it too. The only thing I can say negative is it has too many warning chimes. One day I parked between two trucks and it started beeping, made me think I was about to hit something. The other day in traffic, it beeped when a car drove by me going same direction. Then it beeps in the same place because I was a half car length behind a car. I keep feeling like I'm going to hit something. I will say it is the first car I've had with that amount of a warning system. Otherwise I really love this vehicle!

It has a lot of room and it is nice and clean.
It actually runs really good. But it is kind of comfortable. It is nice interior and all in all the car is a good car to have I guess. I just have it for so long. It is a pain to get the oil changed and when I do the dealership charges a lot. It is a good car but I want a new one.

Smooth ride, has a back camera, very comfortable, very modern.
The car that I have is a 2019 Kia Sportage vehicle. The ride is so smooth and it is also comfortable. You are so alerts you when you close to a car when you in a wrong lane. When a door is open and they also have a back camera. The car is very new so it has all the new modeling in it. I do not think anything is wrong about this car. It fits me.

Kia Sportage 2019 quick summary.
2019 Kia Sportage drives smooth, I have not experienced any problems since I have had the vehicle. The Kia has the normal accessories (radio, air conditioner/heat, steering wheel buttons, etc) it is comfortable with cloth heated seats and reliable with the four wheel drive. It has apple carplay and touchscreen screen. Has a decent sound system.

Great small SUV at a great price with all the bells and whistles.
The Kia Sportage gets good gas mileage and is very comfortable on long drives. It looks great and is very roomy. I love the panoramic sunroof and use it as much as I can. You can keep it closed or open the visor to bring in sunlight or all the way open. I like that Kia makes some of its models in the United States in Georgia. I thought the Sportage was but it is the Sorrento. The Kia is a good size for a smaller SUV. I have had no problems with this SUV and have taken it on several long road trips. It gets great highway miles. The leather is great and I love the heated seats and steering wheel. It handles well in m types of weather including rain and snow. Even though its a four cylinder it has good pickup and is easy to drive. It breaks well and handles turns well. I do not have anything bad to share. It did have a recall on a computer upgrade and the dealer took care of it quickly and within my schedule. The dealer was always upfront with all costs warranties and maintenance schedules and fees. They are convenient and able to get all work done without long ways. But I have only had to get inspection and oil changes. In fact I need an inspection and will bring it to the dealer I bought it from.

This vehicle is great for family camping trips!
I really enjoy driving this vehicle, the heated seats is what ultimately sold me on it. Other features such as the automatic windows and seats. The mileage is also pretty good and it drives spectacularly! It so quiet I can barely hear it. And the space is great and does good with camping.

Acceleration Glitch
I love my 2018 Kia Sportage LX. I am having acceleration problems. The vehicle does not respond especially when climbing hills. It revs really high and you have to take your foot off the gas and let it be for a bit before you can try again. I notice that it doesn't seem to happen when it is on cruise control. Other than that glitch, I love it! It is roomy and very comfortable!
