2019 Lexus NX Review: Extremely Reliable Small Luxury SUV With Low Ownership Costs

Alex Showalter
Sep 12, 2023

The 2019 Lexus NX lasts around 300,000 miles with some relatively minor side window and stereo system issues reported. At $29,350 to $39,600, it’s more expensive than some competitors, but worth it for the excellent long-term reliability ratings.

likeFilled The Good
The engine is very efficient, the seats are comfortable with plenty of legroom and there’s more standard safety technology than the competition.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The stereo system controls are frustrating to use, the cargo area is a bit smaller than some competitors and there’s some cheap plastic buttons on the dash.

Is the 2019 Lexus NX a Good Used SUV?

  • Value 8/10 – The 2019 Lexus NX is cheaper than a lot of other small luxury SUVs on the market with slow depreciation rates, making it a great value for shoppers.

Excellent and wonderful vehicle.
Everything is excellent! The inside and outside colors are a perfect match and adds luxury to the overall look and appearance. There is plenty of room to comfortably seat 5 people and even enough storage to carry all of the shopping when completing those do-it-yourself projects. The engine is smooth d drives perfectly. Safety features are great and the audio sound system is clear, and beautiful to the ear. In all ways to is perfect for me and my needs.

Overall a really nice and awesome car.
It is a really nice car. I love driving it. I honestly prefer it to the other cars I have test drove before. I am glad that I got it. The only thing I do not like is that the roof of the car is a little lower than other cars. Another thing that would be better is the air vents being bigger so having a scent would fit better.

Lexus nx 300 review, amazing vehicle!
I love my 2019 Lexus nx300. I have had no problems with the vehicle. The performance of the car is great, there is a sport mode to go faster, which I really like! The trunk space is pretty large and the back row is spacious from the driver and passenger seat.

Love my Lexus nx 300h. Great car!
I love my nx, it is such a beautiful car and the white is so sleek. I like that it takes unleaded gasoline and runs on both gas and electric. I feel very safe in it which is important as I am a new mom. Only complaint is that the cup holders do not fit my water bottle. But other than that, I would 10/10 recommend this car.

A really great SUV, A terrific value
This is our 2nd NX. It is comfortable, has a great ride, large Navigation screen and wonderful cruise control. Plenty of storage room in the back. We were surprised how much luggage and other things we could get into the hatch on a recent trip. Gets great gas mileage. 31 gallons on the open road using cruise control. Had a our previous one for 3 years and never had one bit of trouble with the car. It's very reliable. Good interior storage in console. Has all the bells and whistles plus the safety requirements.

Over rated and you should be more honest in reviews
First of a ll hybrid that barely break 30 mpg is pretty bad. The acceleration and handling are pretty lousy, the size of everything, turnk, back seat leg room are really small. Their enteratinmant interface is far surpassed by my 30 domestic electric vehicle. Also problems with the vehicle. The rear seat air wouldnt blow, had to get it serviced, it come and goes still. Not comy for back seat passenger on hot california days. The wipers come and wont stop fromrolling over a small bump. This is yet to be fixed. A 50k car should be better desigend, i looked at it and saw it was horrbly designe for aerodynamics wih such a high front end. I WOUILD NOT recommend this vehicle. Lexus should sticj with sedans, those are nice. Next time i am changing auto makers (not a toyota) for the first time in 20 years.

Good car, terrible service.
The car is fine. The fuel mileage is great. It is comfortable. The Bluetooth and entertainment console is clunky. It used an archaic mouse. The central console has a weird cascading design that does not allow for a cell phone holder. The service from Lexus of Glendale has been bad at best. I look forward to my lease ending so I can get a new car with a different manufacturer.

Small SUV, big engine with no sunglasses holder.
No problems other than size is a bit small. Very minimum trunk space and leg room in the back sit is hard for people with long legs. Wish the backseat went down and the trunk allowed for more storage. Gas is expensive but I like that my car is reliable in usage.

What Do Critics Say About the Lexus NX?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Lexus NX is a pleasant small SUV with a luxurious ambience, which gets high owner satisfaction scores as it ages.
  • Edmunds rates the Lexus NX at 4/5, enjoying the quiet cabin at highway speeds, but doesn’t like that there’s not a lot of cargo space.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the NX a 4.5/5, praising the outstanding build quality, but owners don’t like that it’s less exciting to drive than some competitors.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Lexus NX Have?

Common problems found on the 2019 Lexus NX 300 include windows failing to roll down, a frozen stereo system, along with fading paint on the roof. Overall, these problems are relatively minor compared to other small luxury SUVs on the market, leading to lower repair costs as the NX ages.

Windows failing to roll down is the most widespread complaint on the 2019 Lexus NX 300, showing up at around 25,000 miles. The window regulators are a known weak spot in many Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Changing out the regulators and reprogramming the window motor costs around $450, depending on local labor rates.

A frozen stereo system is another problem mentioned by some 2019 NX owners at around 1,000 miles. Usually, the problem is caused by a software issue which results in the stereo system locking up. There are software updates available which improve the reliability. Most dealerships will install the updates for free, while others charge around $100.

Fading paint on the roof has also been reported on some NX models at roughly 30,000 miles. Paint which is left in direct sunlight with no protection, will eventually start to wear down. The only way to properly fix paint once the clear coat has failed is by repainting the panel, at a cost of around $1,000 per panel.

There’s only one recall on the 2019 Lexus NX, which is better than other compact luxury SUVs on the market. The recall covers the fuel pump which may fail. Lexus will replace the fuel pump in affected models for free, and it’s a common recall on all Lexus and Toyota models from 2019.

How Long Will the 2019 Lexus NX Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Lexus NX can last around 300,000 miles, which is longer than some other small luxury SUVs like the Porsche Macan. Regular annual maintenance costs are more affordable than many competitors, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $480 per year.

As a used 2019 Lexus NX reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the windshield wiper arm for $200, power lumbar switch for $275, along with the A/C expansion valve which costs $400.

It is pretty reliable. The computer has a lot of bugs in it though. My contact favorites from my phone slowly disappear and I have to add them all again repeatedly. Pandora used to be a feature and then one day it never worked again. The voice control is horrific. But the car is a great drive!

accountCircle Jesson C

I have had zero issues in over a year. Very reliable and most important it makes me feel very safe when driving around town or making long distance trips! All my friends love my Lexus nx 300 f-sport!

The 2019 Lexus NX is reliable. I have had no problems at all. No problems with interior, exterior, safety, mechanical, etc.

accountCircle Michaela R

Very reliable and no problems. I would lease again. Only complaint is gas mileage. Not efficient in that.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is excellent for a small luxury SUV which has an 8-inch touchscreen with the remote touch interface. Optional upgrades include a larger 10.3-inch screen as well as a premium 10-speaker sound system.

Standard safety features are better than most other SUVs, offering:

  • Rearview camera
  • Lane keep assist
  • Automatic high-beam headlights
  • Pedestrian detection
  • Lane departure warning
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Electronic stability control
  • Pre-collision braking

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Surround-view parking camera system
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Rain-sensing windshield wipers
  • Parking sensors with automatic braking
  • Rear cross traffic alert

Is the 2019 Lexus NX a Good Value?

Yes, the 2019 Lexus NX is a good value since it offers excellent long-term reliability ratings paired with a nice interior. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $29,350 to $39,600, making it more than an Infiniti QX50 or Volvo XC40. When new, the price range was $36,485 to $40,125. Depreciation is better than other luxury SUVs, only losing about 5% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Lexus NX?

The seats are upholstered with high-quality materials, providing plush cushioning that’s supportive for both short trips around town and longer highway journeys. The front seats, in particular, offer a good range of adjustments, making sure drivers of all sizes can find their ideal driving position.

Noise insulation is great, with the cabin remaining notably quiet even at higher speeds, thanks to the meticulous engineering that reduces wind and road noise. The ride quality is smooth, with the suspension adeptly absorbing most road imperfections. Furthermore, the layout of the controls is intuitive, and the infotainment system, though it requires a bit of a learning curve, offers a plethora of features that add to the overall comfort and convenience. What Are the Differences Between Years?

The first generation of the Lexus NX was launched for the 2015 model year.

2015: First model year for the Lexus NX, which was launched as a smaller and more budget-oriented SUV in the Lexus lineup.

2016: Smartphone integration added with Lexus Enform apps.

2017: Standard Scout GPS Link navigation system on all models.

2018: Renamed to NX300, standard Safety System+ on all models, larger central screen.

2019: No changes from earlier years.

2020: Additional driver safety features added, Android Auto offered, and there’s an optional Mark Levinson stereo system.

2021: Standard blind-spot monitoring and auto-dimming rearview mirror on all models.

How Does the Lexus NX Compare to the Competition?

The 2019 Lexus NX is a great compact luxury SUV, offering a great mix of reliability paired with an upscale interior for the price.

The Lexus RX is a larger SUV available from Lexus, which starts at about $2,500 more. Passenger room is a bit better in the Lexus RX, while the Lexus NX offers a sportier driving experience. We recommend the Lexus RX for most people since it’s more practical, although both are great choices for shoppers.

The Acura RDX is another small luxury SUV which is available for about $2,000 less. Performance is better in the Acura RDX with its stronger engine, while the Lexus NX has higher long-term reliability ratings. We recommend the Lexus NX since it’s cheaper to own, but the competition is closer in other years.

The SUV is great because it is compact, but still spacious enough to fit our two large dogs in the back. It is very reliable and comfortable, but it requires premium gas which is more expensive. The only thing I do not like about this car is when the tire pressure monitor comes on the display doesn't show long enough as to which tire needs air. Honest review of 2019 Lexus nx 300 small little SUV.
Performance: great maneuverability, handling, joy to drive. Pick up is not great, but to be expected for small SUV. Reliability: very reliable. Never had anything go wrong with equipment. Safety: excellent safety features. Auto brake when about to crash into something. Lane drift sensing vibrates and tries to steer you back into your lane when drifting. Blind spot sensor on side mirrors. Backup camera. Tire pressure reading on all 4 tires built-in to dash. Auto slow down/speed up cruise control based on speed of car in front. Comfort: heated seats feature. Cooling seats feature. Auto temperature control. Ceiling too low. Convenience: cup holders too small. No small storage area in front to put phone. Cargo area: very small for a SUV, would like a little more. Technology: dislike touchpad, prefer touchscreen. Touchpad requires more effort, especially when trying to enter an address into maps app. Lexus inform does not provide much value/GPS app is not great, they should just include apple/android smartphone apps.

Needs more storage, make it more practical for everyday people.
I wish there was more storage space. There's only the center console which is shallow and a little bit of storage in the doors. It would be beneficial if there was more space for everyday things. There's a little 'make up' mirror area by the cup holder that is pointless. No one should be doing make up in their car. There should be a spot for sunglasses and a place to charge your phone without having to dig on the inside of your console.

The vehicle is extremely comfortable and very smooth to drive. There have been no problems with it and I receive great mileage on it. Great for longer drives and very eco friendly. Highly recommended for anyone who is looking to purchase an affordable luxury car.

Best car I had ever the interior is cool and modern the service is amazing.
Love it, had 3 Lexus in the last 9 years, this is the one that feels more powerful. The seats are fit to drive for hours, it's not as big as the rx model but has the same fixtures, will not change for any other car ever. The service is amazing you can even get a free manicure and pedicure while waiting for your car to be done. It's very secure, have excellent ratings.

Love this car. It's my 2nd NX
I love the way the car drives. It's very comfortable and has a smooth ride with great pick up. I only wish there were a few more cup holders and storage areas. I also have some difficulty with the voice on the navigation system. I find that it often doesn't pick up what I am saying

Love my Lexus. Super comfortable and has all the luxury amenities.
Driving the 2019 Lexus nx 300 is the best. Only cars I've ever driven have been Lexus. The vehicle is reliable from city driving to highway driving. Plenty of space for passengers and storage. Up to date interface in the console that is compatible with apple and android products. Gives you the option to go from standard, eco friendly, or sport mode with the touch of knob while driving.

Almost perfect small luxury SUV.
Super reliable, comfortable- drives like a luxury car. Very sharp exterior, super comfortable leather seats. Not huge fan of trunk space and the electronics could be easier to navigate. Lexus Enform app does not work great. Wish there was a panoramic sunroof.

Feels like you are a smooth, floating, light cloud driving down the street.
Car runs extremely smoothly, handles great, it is amazingly quiet, super comfortable. Total fun to drive! Has a lot of high tech features, heated and ventilated seats, even a heated steering wheel, which I use every morning. The hybrid gets great gas mileage (approximately 40 mpg).

Feels like driving on a cloud!
Excellent car! Smooth, comfortable, well designed. The interior is made with quality materials and multiple features. The info screen is kind of hard to navigate. It does not seem to use intuitive functions, so it takes some getting used to. Overall, I have had no problems with the vehicle which I have had for 2 years now.

Perfect except for the window film!
Love everything about my vehicle. The ride is super smooth. All the right features. Only thing that bothers me is that Lexus used a special film on the front windows that prevents them from tinting them. Seem absurd living in Florida if you can't tint your windows.

Lexus nx - beautiful and reliable.
Overall, I really love this care. The make and the model is reliable and pleasing to the eye. These is a decent amount of space in the back seat and in the tuck (perfect for those big grocery hauls!) Electronics in the car are also high tech and the car itself is very safe.

Great compact SUV for your family
I really like the safety features on this car, from the parking assist to the back-up camera. It is a good size for a small family, up to five people. The cargo, trunk space is really awesome too. I like the automatic features is comes with, like adjusting the driver seat when turning car on/off, opening the back door hands-free, etc. This is a really great size car if you are looking for something small like a sedan but not big like an SUV.

A Lexus feel without the hefty price tag.
I like the style of the car. The fact that it is a small SUV is something that makes sense for me. I have two kids in car seats and an SUV is great, but I am 5 feet tall so I need something on the smaller side. I also love that it is a Lexus and it drives smoothly like one, but not for the Lexus cost at a leased price of $375 a month. The only complaint I have is the computer. There are a lot of bugs in the vehicle's computer. No car play also.

Love my Lexus nx300 small SUV.
Love it! Comfortable with all the bells and whistles. Drives smooth and quiet. Love the small size but still up high and handles great! Love the heated seats and steering wheel along with the hands free calling, radio etc. The black with the red interior makes it very sporty and feels spicy too!

Thoughts on my Lexus nx 2019.
My car has not yet shown any problems, it is not a very fast car which it's a little bit of a bummer, I wish it had more speed. It is very nice overall but I wish the radio (infotainment screen) was more updated because it seems very outdated to be a 2019 car.

Trunk size is the one feature that is not on par with rest of vehicle.
Easy to drive and super comfortable. Handles well in the road both in town and in the highway. Only drawback is the trunk size. For daily activities trunk size is fine. However, no ideal trunk space when going on a trip and have luggage for a family of 4 people.

Media Ratings Don't Reflect How Great Car Is!
Upon reading media reviews, I was abit worried especially going from a 6 cylinder to Turbo 4. Have been very surprised on acceleration and performance. F sport seats are super comfortable. Upon 6 months of ownership, I can attest it's fantastic!

The horsepower is great. The comfort within the amenities is great.
The car is beautiful to look at. It looks like a Porsche cayenne. The seats are dual colored leather. The seats are heated with navigational control system. The payment is affordable. The remaining balance with be affordable too. It does not have great gas mileage. The horsepower is 235, which is awesome!!

My car is gray sport and I really like the option of sport +.
This car is amazing and I really enjoying it. I really love this car and maybe I will buy another one in the future. This car is the most expensive car but it is not a problem:). So if you want to buy a car go try this car and will see how amazing this car is.
