The 2012 RX 350 lasts over 350,000 miles with only some motor mount and transmission software issues. At $17,024 – 17,590, it’s a great value for a luxurious and dependable SUV.

This vehicle is worth its value. The engine is super quiet. The seats are comfortable. It has a heating and cooling feature for the seats. GPS built in.

Love my red Lexus rx 350!
Lexus service department is the best! They provide you with a loaner when serviced; warmed up and ready to go! Love the vehicle (my second, had the last one for 12 years). Awesome riding, and so many amenities standard. Appreciate that the color selection keeps increasing as time goes by!

A lexus can last you 10 years plus, they are the best cars on the market, I would buy a lexus over and over again, they do not breakdown easily and the cost to repair for a luxury vehicle is not expensive
It is extremely durable, great on gas and not expensive to fix

It's a safe car to travel with family and pets. Also there are alerts that make sure you keep it mechanically safe.
I love the comfort of it and I get decent gas mileage. The driver's seat is a little uncomfortable for me though.

Luxury, reliable and practical
I really like the size of my car. It's very comfortable. It has great visibility when you're driving. Has a lot of automatic feature is like the tailgate going up, the moonroof, seat heaters and coolers, Comfortably seats five but is not too large, easy to handle. It's the second one I've owned.

I do love this Lexus, with a few exceptions.
SUV is reliable and good on gasoline. Although this car is smooth to drive, it has sensors which are difficult to locate to turn off and are very distracting. The car also has a backseat which is somewhat smaller than what I am used to. The ac is cold and comfortable. The design of the hatchback is good, but again there is a major sensitivity issue when placing things too close to the hatch door. At fast food drive thrus the sensors go off continually until I place the car into drive. The lexis performs well on the highway and in town driving.

Had some problems.
THe 2012 350 car has done ok except for TWO big problems. First the Lexus dealer (in another town) sold me car with history warranty but when my intermittant wiper quit my in-town dealer said I had a non-conforming windshield.NEITHER would take responsibility nor would the national office. Next my CD player quit working.I was shocked to find I would have to replace the whole GPS, radio and CD unit (1300$) to fix. Not at all what I expected.!!

Too expensive a price to pay for a depreciating item.
My particular car has issues with the brakes. I have replaced the main parts of the brakes twice (I have had the car for 5 years, bought it used) and still have issues. I have had to replace the main parts of the engine due to a leak/oil in a part of the engine which cost thousands of dollars. I love the look of the car and others who have this same model does not have all the issues I have. I will not be buying another make and model of this vehicle.

It is a good and reliable family car.
This is my husband's car. I do not drive, but have felt comfortable as the passenger. We've had it for almost 4 years, no major problems. We've driven it across states every year and live in an area that has heavy snow and cold temperatures. I feel safe driving in it with my two small kids.

Lexus are pretty reliable.
My Lexus has been good. No real mechanical trouble. Lots of indicator lights on frequently. Something wrong with the auto door locks, child safety locks and the anti skid. The gas mileage is good and it is a safe sport utility vehicle. I’d buy another one.

Very nice luxury vehicle.
Has great acceleration and is nice to drive. Good car for family use and travel. Not the best car for hauling big loads. Stereo is great it just a little small. Good gas mileage and smooth ride. I myself need more of a heavy duty vehicle. It works well for going to sport events as it fits in small space.

What Do Critics Say About the RX 350?

  • Consumer Reports finds the RX to be a headache-free midsize SUV with a plush cabin and excellent owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the RX 4.7/5 and likes the premium materials, but doesn’t like the lack of a third row.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the RX a 4.5/5 with a lot of luxury for the money, but find it feels overly soft to drive on the roads.

What Common Problems Does the 2012 Lexus RX 350 Have?

Problems with the 2012 RX 350 are relatively minor including issues with vibration, hesitation while accelerating, and rare shattered sunroofs.

Vibration while driving is a complaint from some owners at around 50,000 miles. The most common source of the problem is worn-out motor mounts, which cost about $300 to replace.

Hesitating while accelerating shows up in some vehicles at around 65,000 miles. The transmission control module is to blame. Having a dealership or shop reset the software fixes the issue costing only around $100.

A shattered sunroof is a rare issue mentioned by some owners at around 100,000 miles. Quality issues in some vehicles can cause the glass to shatter with a minor impact. Replacing the part costs around $1,500, and there’s a class action suit.

There’s only 1 recall for the brake actuator assembly, which is fairly serious since a failure increases the risk of a crash by preventing the brakes from engaging.

How Long Will the 2012 Lexus RX 350 Last?

A 2012 Lexus RX 350 can last over 350,000 miles when properly cared for, which is nearly 200,000 miles longer than other luxury SUVs like the Cayenne. Regular annual maintenance costs are affordable for a luxury vehicle at $522 per year, according to Repair Pal.

As an RX 350 reaches 100,000 miles owners should prepare to replace the drive belt tensioner for $400, wheel bearings costing $425, and door lock actuators which cost $480.

accountCircle Tammie L

I purchased the vehicle after researching it and it received above average ratings for its reliability. I have not encountered any major repairs except oil change and possibly better tires.

accountCircle Mario H

No I have never had any problems with my Lexus it has always been dependable, just regular oil changes no major services

How Much Is the 2012 Lexus RX 350 Worth?

Blue book values range from $17,024 – 17,590, making the RX 350 about $2,000 more expensive than an Acura MDX or BMW X5. When new, the price range was $39,075 to $40,475. Depreciation is better than other luxury SUVs, losing only about 8% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the RX 350?

There’s only one model of the RX 350 available, but it is offered in front wheel drive or all-wheel-drive. Technology is good since it was last updated in 2010, but there are more advanced safety features added for 2013.

Standard Features Include:

  • 18-Inch Alloy Wheels

What Engines Come In the RX 350?

There’s a decently powerful 3.5L V6 making 275 horsepower in the 2012 RX 350. Accelerating from 0 to 60 miles per hour only takes 7.1 seconds, making it quicker than some rivals. The all-wheel-drive model can only tow up to 3,500 pounds, lower than other non-luxury SUVs.

What Colors Does the RX 350 Come In?

How Big Is the RX 350?

The 2012 RX 350 is a smaller midsize SUV, but similar in size to the Mercedes M-Class and Volvo XC90. Passenger room is great throughout the cabin with a lot of room for adults, but there is no third row available.

Cargo space is better than average, offering 40 cubic feet of space behind the seats and up to 80.3 cubic feet with the seats folded flat.

VehicleHistory Image

How Does the RX 350 Compare to the Competition?

The Acura MDX is a rival costing around $1,500 less. Where the MDX stands out is with more passenger room, but the RX 350 has better interior materials and safety features. Overall, the RX 350 is a better choice since it’s more luxurious and lasts about 50,000 miles longer.

The Toyota Highlander is a competitor costing about $2,000 less. Both SUVs are built on the same platform from Toyota, with the Highlander being more spacious and the RX 350 offering a better interior. We recommend the RX 350 since you get a lot of luxury for the money.

What a smooth ride!!
We recently purchased a 2012 RX 350, and we love it! A smooth ride, a ton of features. I am a big guy, and I feel comfortable in it. The only downside to this vehicle for me is that I seem to slide on the leather seats. That is a very minor issue! I love my Lexus! This is my second Lexus in two years. My first was a 2009 ES350 which was totaled. If that didn't happen, I would still be driving that. I wanted another Lexus, and I found it. My wish list for my next Lexus: heated steering wheel.

Stylish reliable but it feels a bit like a cockpit would likely front to be more open. Overall a good high end reliable vehicle. If you buy one used you do not have to spend a fortune for one. Has good power and handles great. The auto dimming mirrors are nice.

This is a reliable vehicle. Very comfortable with lots of nice options Bluetooth, leather heated and cooled seats, automatic starter, moonroof. Gets good gas mileage. The car drives very smooth and comfortable. I love the hands free answering the phone. The hatch has a cover to cover your personal items from people seeing what is in the back of the car.

Lexus rx350 superlative reliability and amazing long lasting quality.
This is my 4th rx 350 over the years. I find these smaller SUVs to be the most reliable cars on the market. All features work to perfection as auto ages. For examples windshield wipers work quietly and flawlessly. The windows open quietly. Lexus has a feel of a brand new car when they are many years old.

Functional with plenty of room. Comfortable and safe.
We love our car. We wanted something a little more off the ground compared to our previous sedan. This was perfect. Full size back seat. I used to have a hatchback and then we had cars with trunks. I missed the hat back so much more versatile. I love the features of heated seats and air cooled seats. I love the moonroof and sunroof combo. It gets decent gas mileage. It drives very smooth and has good suspension and softer seats. Especially compared to cars that are similar like the rav4. Repairs are cheap because it shares parts with the Toyota Camry. We have plenty of room for our little ones car seat in the back seat. The back has plenty of room for our stroller and luggage for a weekend trip. I feel very safe in this car and entrust my life my husband life and baby newborn sons life to this car. It also looks good and has good speakers.

Perfect luxurious family car.
I love my car, it has the right amount of technology without being overwhelming. Heated seats are my favorite feature for the cold winters, and the sun roof for the summers. I also enjoy the large trunk space for my dogs and strollers, etc. For my baby. The Lexus is large enough for our family but it does not feel like you are driving a huge vehicle. It is also very luxurious which I appreciate.

Why I love my Lexus and why you should love one too!
Lexus is a well built car, it can withstand an accident with minimal damage as I recently found out! Has great gas mileage and the option to choose if you would like to use sport drive or regular. The trunk is a nice size able to hold a big grocery shopping as well as a great sound system! For the 8 years I have had this car, besides the maintenance, oil change etc I have had no problems with this car!

Amazing Lexus that everyone would love to buy!
I like that it has adjustable seats. I can set a setting for myself as well as for someone else who drives it as well. It is very good on gas. The stereo is great and sounds really good. The leather seats are very comfortable. The back seats have a lot of room as well. I like how it has heated seats. It also has a sunroof which is really awesome. One thing I wish it had was allowing the seat to go backwards a little more. I enjoy how we can move the steering wheel as well.
accountCircle Karri M on February 20, 2021
Drives very smooth and looks sporty.
Huge blind spot to the passengers side. Oil changes cost more. Only one major problem, put it in the shop and cost $2,000 to repair. Have 150,000 miles and no other issues. Leather is cracking and worn. Light tan leather shows more ware. Paint slightly chipping on bumper.

We bought the car when it was three years old. When you buy a Lexus it is as though you've been adopted. The customer service is incredible. It is totally reliable, attractive to look at and uses regular gas. It is very dependable! We previously had a more sporty car but as we've gotten older, it is too hard to get down into a car. We like the size of it; great for road trips.

A ride in comfort and luxury going on 7 years later. Gas mileage is solid for an SUV, still has plenty of 'get-up' left to easily zoom past drivers say when entering on the highway. Preventative maintenance is a must for any vehicle and we have always taken great care to take to Lexus dealership for routine maintenance.

Lexus RX350 is very comfortable seating, drives smoothly but not sporty mode. Love that it is pretty low maintenance requiring oil change every 10K miles. A Comfortable Luxury, The Lexus RX350
I really enjoy my car and am always the first to offer to drive on group rides. I find my car very comfortable, once taking it on a 4 hour road trip with friends. The car is very spacious, and it was my savior when I moved away from home for the first time. To fit a desk, huge laundry basket, suitcase, and bike in all at once? A huge feat! My biggest issues with the car is that the two front seats do have a tendency to literally rip up after a couple years of wear and tear. I also wish the gas tank was bigger so I didn't have to fuel up as often.

He brings a wealth of knowledge to Vehicle History as our Staff Writer and has written hundreds of used car reviews helping buyers make informed purchasing decisions. He is a member of the Automotive Press Association, and keeps up-to-date on the latest changes in the industry. Over the years, he has driven hundreds of cars, working on many of them. His mechanical experience evolved from modifying off-road trucks as a teen to focusing on automotive electrical systems as he got older. He now specializes in reviewing used cars as an automotive journalist. Some of his favorite brands are Toyota and BMW. The Toyota Land Cruiser is one of his favorite vehicles of all time since they’re built to last forever and can go anywhere. One of his current cars is a Lexus LX570, built on the same platform as the 200-series Land Cruiser, but it’s a better value in the used market.
