Alex Showalter
Oct 28, 2022

The 2016 Lexus RX lasts over 300,000 miles with only minor Bluetooth and transmission software issues. At $26,325 to $34,025, it’s more expensive than other SUVs, but worth the money for a combination of luxury and reliability.

Great car to drive around town or on the highway
Great car to drive. Many safety features. Looks great. Good voice interface.

Easy and safe to drive, very comfortable and very reliable.
I love my vehicle. Had quite a few cars before this one and finally this is a car that I love, and I'm not comparing to Toyota and Honda, the one before this was a Mercedes. This car is a bit large but has a lot of advantages, really comfortable first of all, great all around view, no blind spots, smooth ride for people like me who drive at least 2 hours a day. The only negative is the gas of course, but I love it so much that will buy another one like this once this one is old and would need to be replaced.

The Lexus RX350 is incredibly comfortable to ride in. Seats are luxurious and heated/cooled. In addition, road noise is barely noticed when traveling.
The Lexus RX350 is a luxury SUV. It has wonderful features that enhance both driver comfort and safety. The air-cooled seats were a huge positive in the 90+ degree summer we just had. Safety features include "stay between the lines" and parking assistance. The only problem that is of note is that the remote access and remote start are only available with a subscription.

We love our Lexus rx 350 vehicle.
Extremely reliable. Safe, comfortable, easy to drive. Comfortable back seat for adults with plenty of legroom. A little more of a learning curve with quite a few “gadgets” but, once learned, they are easy. Have not had the first problem except for getting our iPhone to consistently link up to the onboard Bluetooth.

A comfy ride that any driver will enjoy.
Super comfortable to drive, well thought through. Love to drive it daily. A little bit on the pricier side, but worth every dollar. Love navigation and voice command. Interior is nice, roomy and luxurious. One of the negatives is the fuel economy. Highway is about 22-23 miles per gallon.

Best SUV of our time extremely reliable and safe.
It is so reliable I love that it lets you know when you are close to a car. It also alerts you need to break to avoid an accident. It also controls the temperature inside the car so that you may be comfortable when driving. It also has a safety feature that doors are automatically locked.

Terrible
Transmission replaced at 2000 miles. Front driver side strut at 4000 miles. Battery at 5000 miles. Gear casing replaced at 15000 miles. Then to top it all off, Lexus kills the Enform 1.0 suite, no pandora, facebook places etc, killing the app suite and nothing you can do about it. Now the enform suite of apps is useless and makes this more like a 2005 Lexus. Terrible for a 3 year old car with only 17k miles.
accountCircle Ash M
I love the radar cruise control which allows me space between vehicles.
I like it because it features navigation technology, dimming mirrors, heated seats, remember who's seat goes where with each key used, radar speed control, good fuel economy, ability to change the stiffness, vents in the back seat, and a good stereo, has a sleek inside and outside. It is overall a really nice car.
accountCircle Joe N
Great car but needs more leg room.
It is good but there is not enough leg room in the back seats. My son is 6 three and he often struggles to fit comfortably when he is in the car with my wife and I. Other than the smaller amount of legroom in the back the car is rather comfortable. I would recommend this car to a friend.

The transmission in my car hesitates when you slow down and pick up speed again.
My car is very comfortable to drive. However, the transmission skips and it is frustrating. I don't think I'll buy another Lexus.

My personal opinion on my car.
The quality of my car is pretty good. The leather seating is also comfortable and is appealing. The touch screen in the car is useful and modern. Along with the basic function, the car also drives pretty smooth. The car itself looks relevant and up to date. Overall, I had no problems much with my car and am satisfied with my purchase.

Out of all the lexus I’ve owned this has been the worst
The car gets nicked easy very poor paint job and they are so greedy they couldn’t even make the remote start a part of the vehicle you have to pay an animal fee just to start your car . Even the leather leather is the lowest quality available

A review of driving a Lexus sport utility vehicle.
It has a good gas mileage and easy to wipe with leather seats. It performs like any other all wheel drive vehicles. It comes with heated seats to keep warm during winter. It has good size trunk space to haul items. The only problem is the brake pad that wears off easily.

What Do Critics Say About the Lexus RX?

  • Consumer Reports says the Lexus RX mixes comfort, tranquility, and reliability with high owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the 2016 Lexus RX at 3.8/5, praising the very quiet cabin, but doesn’t like the annoying remote touch stereo system.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Lexus RX a 4.7/5 enjoying the luxurious cabin, while owners don’t like the less sporty driving experience compared to other SUVs.

What Common Problems Does the 2016 Lexus RX Have?

Common problems reported on the 2016 Lexus RX include Bluetooth connectivity issues, shifting slowly between gears, as well as an exhaust smell in the cabin. Overall, these problems are minor compared to other luxury SUVs from 2016, with average repair costs as well.

Bluetooth connectivity issues are a common complaint at around 1,000 miles. Usually the problem is caused by a software glitch in the stereo system. Lexus dealers can install a software update which improves the Bluetooth reliability, fixing the problem. Most dealers will install it for under $50.

Shifting slowly between gears shows up on some Lexus RX models in the first 5,000 miles as well. The Lexus RX has a transmission which adapts to your driving style, and a lot of the time the issue only exists while it’s learning how you drive. There are software updates available for the transmission control module as well, which can be installed by dealerships.

An exhaust smell in the cabin has also been reported by some Lexus RX owners at around 30,000 miles. Usually the problem is caused by a loose flange on the exhaust. Inspecting and repairing the problem costs around $200, depending on local labor rates.

There are 3 minor recalls on the 2016 Lexus RX, which is better than other luxury SUVs. The most serious recall covers the brake actuator, which could have a damaged O-ring. Lexus will replace the O-rings on affected models for free. The other recalls cover air bags, which are common on all SUVs.

How Long Will the 2016 Lexus RX Last?

A well-maintained 2016 Lexus RX should last over 300,000 miles, which is around 100,000 miles more than other luxury SUVs like the Mercedes GLC. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other high-end SUVs, according to data from Repair Pal, at $810 per year.

Since many used 2016 Lexus RX models will have over 100,000 miles buyers should be prepared to replace the evaporative canister for $600, A/C pressure switch costing $470, as well as the liftgate motor which costs $800.

accountCircle Amy W

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is excellent in the 2016 Lexus RX with a standard 8-inch display, as well as Bluetooth connectivity. There’s also an optional larger 12.3-inch display as well as a 15-speaker Mark Levinson stereo.

Safety technology is great as well with a standard rearview camera. Optional upgrades include adaptive cruise control, lane keep assistance, collision mitigation with automatic braking, and even pedestrian detection.

Is the 2016 Lexus RX a Good Value?

Yes, the 2016 Lexus RX is a good value since it offers a lot of luxury and reliability for the money. Blue book prices range from $26,325 to $34,025, making it more expensive than a BMW X5 or Volvo XC90. When new, the price range was $41,900 to $49,125. Depreciation is better than average, only losing about 8% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Lexus RX?

There are two models of the Lexus RX offered in 2016, including the Base and F Sport.

Base is the standard model with:

VehicleHistory Image

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The fourth generation of the Lexus RX was introduced in 2016, and will be replaced by the fifth generation for 2023.

2014: 115v household outlet for rear seats, new pre-collision warning system, as well as Siri Eyes Free.

2015: Standard 7-inch display screen & rearview camera, new LED headlights.

2016: Fully redesigned for the fourth generation with new styling, engines, and technology.

2017: Upgraded standard safety equipment, F-Sport model available with front-wheel-drive.

2018: No major changes.

2019: Lexus Enform Connect smart apps added.

2020: Updated front & rear bumper, improved suspension, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto.

How Does the Lexus RX Compare to the Competition?

The Lexus RX is the best midsize luxury SUV of 2016. If you’re looking for outstanding reliability, lower ownership costs, as well as Lexus’ excellent customer service, then the RX is a great choice.

The Lexus NX is another SUV offered by Lexus which costs around $3,000 less. The Lexus NX is sportier to drive, while the Lexus RX has a more upscale interior with more technology. We recommend the Lexus RX for most buyers since it offers more space, and a better resale value on the used market.

The Acura MDX is another Japanese midsize luxury SUV which costs $7,000 less. Passenger room is better in the Acura MDX since it has three rows of seating available, while the Lexus RX is more luxurious. We recommend the Lexus RX since you get a more up-to-date SUV with a nicer interior, although both are long-lasting choices.

Luxurious and practical car.
The car drives very smoothly with minimal engine sound. The sound system is also very strong but it takes up a lot of space that can be used for other things. The button to choose on the screen as well is not so practical, but other than that the car is practical and luxurious with lots of space.

Infotainment System Design Opportunities
I enjoy all aspects of my vehicle. I think the biggest frustration is the infotainment system. It is controlled using a mouse feature that is often rather cumbersome and time consuming to navigate. Especially in the mornings or if I'm in a rush headed to a new location spending the additional 2 - 3 minutes to type the address in is frustrating. To combat this they have included destination assist which allows you to call someone, but again there is a delay with doing this as well. I wish there was an instantaneous transfer from your phone.

Outside style was what drew me to car. Then I got to order safety features I wanted especially the Hud which I had in my prior car & loved. Car drives great, is very comfortable & attractive. I like how the body style was upgraded in 2016 & looks like grill is growling.

Lexus acceleration power and easy adjustability.
The Lexus I drive has incredible performance. Its able to accelerate extremely quickly, which is helpful in situations where I must go from a really slow pace to a faster one. This is a great safety measure. It is always reliable, the car never has variations in its power. The driving is incredibly smooth and my favorite feature is its easily adjustable side and back mirrors.

Seamless onboard experience.
Its technology features are very seamlessly integrated - and it is a smooth drive, it does not bounce, providing for a nice onboard experience - however it is not the best in fuel efficiency, but for a midsize luxury crossover it does the job and all its features still work 4 years after purchase.

When I first sat down in my 2016 Lexus rx 350, I knew it was definitely the nicest vehicle that I have ever been in. This vehicle screams luxury at every level. From leather seats to large display screen on the dash to automated everything. One of the first items that my eyes were drawn to was the full navigation map display. It is quite large and beautiful one drawback that disappoints me is the fact that Does not have remote start. My Lexus is my baby, runs like a charm and I have not had any problems with it. I like an SUV because it sits higher than a plain old sedan and is easier to see in traffic. I love my car because it is just the right height for me to sit into and slide my legs into. It has a number of features that are standard issue including the sound system, navigation system and drive assist. In addition it has seats in the back that can recline in order to haul large items.

It is ok. That is all. Nothing else really.
I mean it is fine. I wouldn't rave about it or anything. The thing I do like about it though is that it is reliable with no issues really. The small things are all solid. The drive, seats, control are all solid. It is comfortable and not bumpy. It is just solid.

Classy and comfortable ride.
I love my Lexus rx-350. I bought it used, and have had no issues with it. The leather interior is very comfortable, and the ride is the smoothest ride I have ever had with any car I have driven. I also love the classy exterior. The technology features inside the car are easy to navigate without using an owner's manual.
