Feb 9, 2023

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 lasts around 250,000 miles with relatively minor brake wear and stereo system issues reported. At $18,550 to $38,785, it’s a great value for a small SUV with plenty of safety technology and enough room for a small family.

The handling is very responsive, the cabin is very quiet at highway speeds and the interior materials are luxurious.

The base engine is weaker than other small SUVs, the suspension is firm and rear legroom is a bit lower than the competition.

Reliable, comfortable, spacious.
This is the best car I have owned. It is reliable, comfortable for everyone in the car (even those in the back seat) and spacious too. Love how safe it is, and all of the safety features that come with it. For a midsize it gets good gas mileage, especially with how far I have to drive to work.

I love my Mazda cx 5 and the features that are on it as well as the comforter.
I love my car. It is very comfortable. I have one problem and that is when the XM radio will not load. I also like the gas mileage I get. I also want to say the process in getting the car was beyond my expectations since I had used another dealership in the Atlanta area.

Amazing car with great reliability.
This car is great. The safety features are incredible and super reliable. The sound system is amazing. I love that it comes with apple carplay. The trunk is spacious and the back seats go down all the way. I love that the headlights and windshield wipers are automatic. It is great on gas.

One small problem-no solution
2019 Cx5 my wife went home for lunch. On her way back to the office, the car died at the stoplight. All lights in the panel came on. Car wouldn’t start. After about 15 minutes, the car started. Called the dealer service, they said they had never heard of that situation. Looked on line and evidently several firm previous years have had similar problem. It hasn’t happened again.

Mazda cx-5 touring review.
I have had zero issues with my compact SUV thus far. I love it. Everything about the car is amazing. It enables you to experience luxury at its finest. I have no regrets about purchasing the car and have encouraged my other to buy the exact same car. It is truly amazing.

Feels extremely luxurious while remaining relatively affordable.
Very reliable, extremely luxurious and comfortable ride. Has plenty of features that make me feel safe on the road - such as blind spot indicators. It handles poorly paved roads very well and does not requires ample maintenance. It is also a great size. Would recommend to anyone.

It is awesome and good to drive.
I have had no problems. The car is amazing in all weather. It is also super comfy to sit in for long car trips. It was also affordable. We've only had to change the oil once and no other maintenance. It gets good gas mileage. It also has a lot of space for our family.

Reliable and comfortable car.
This is a great car. I have not had any issues with it so far. I appreciate all of the safety features that come with it- sensors, camera, etc. The stereo system is nice as well. It is comfortable to drive and very reliable. It is the perfect size and the appearance is nice and sleek. It is good on gas too. I just have the standard issue vehicle, no upgrades, so I cannot attest to any of those.

Infotainment system is a piece of junk
I bought 2019 Mazda CX-5 one month ago They System crashes and reboots every time I get in the car Bluetooth doesn't play Apple car play fails Mazda can't fix it They don't even know what is causing it And they have no time line as to when they can fix it Just told me to 'pick up the car' They sold a defective car And I'm not the only one I want my money back!!!! My iPhone X works fine in another car with Apple car play This is a cx-5 problem I would never buy this car again

Miserable
I’ve had my CX-5 for a week. I’ve put 300 miles on it and Infind it miserable. The seat is so uncomfortable I can’t wait to get out of the car even on a short drive. The bolster seems to be cut with a very hard edge. Either a defect or poor craftsmanship. After a week I can’t wait to get rid of this car.

Good utility vehicle with a decent price. Looks appealing, good safety record.
It is a good vehicle, reliable with a decent t fuel intake. I like the color and interior of the car. For the cost it feels and looks like a expensive vehicle. I bought this vehicle because it has excellent reviews and a excellent track record. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a mid size SUV.

Only buy this car if you liked you have a visit by a roadside assistance daily to start it and you don't give a d**n about you taggerty because the car was never gets you where you needed to go
It's really a fantastic car if you like to call into roadside assistance every single day for 3 years to get a jump because it never started when I needed it and it cost me just about everything.. I never have integrity owning a business that's important. Your dealership in Rocklin or Roseville , wonderful people they only would talk with my husband (ex) about the important information. Yet when it came time to be paid every month it came out of my account. They told my husband, not me, I did not know how to put push the button in all the way to start the car or put my little foot all the way down on the brake to the floor boards when I started the car to the . You don't need to do that. But I tell you if your second still storm on an empty road in the mountains in Tahoe with two huge dogs and your car and you can't start your car if your foot is going to go through that floorboard and your finger is going to break pushing that button in so how dare they tell my husband that they can't even tell me this and then they wanted me to take it in when the cold when I wouldn't start so I got tired because I had to use the car every time I want to start I had to call roadside assistance but one day I had free and I told them I was going to try to expedite the failure to start the car so when I did they towed the car in and I told them what two items I did they call back my husband insisted I bring back the rental car or I would pay for it and it was two different actions that the code red two different actions that I did not do I left the car door open and the lights on I believe and they read two different codes but how dare them and they only took 15 minutes to do all of this and before they took a month or longer could not find anything I'm so disgusted with this company if there is something I can do now that my divorce is over and he was able to get to court and I was not maybe there is something I can do now. They're telling me I could not leave the door open at all or it could fail to start by having 20 bags in your car are groceries and you need to open the car every time I close it every time to get those groceries out no no it would be pouring down rain storming and I would turn off all the lights he with me everything off run into the store run back 5 minutes later and it wouldn't start I could leave the key in the car lights on set it up and it was dark there was no sense out of this car so people think your chances if you want I'm not going to again especially when someone can not even respond to me. This car has been a lemon. I talked with Mazda headquarters, I told them what I wanted, I wanted them to buy back my car. There was one woman that sent me an email saying that she would get back to me after they reviewed my request to buy back my car and nobody did.. Ever not once and I sent several letters..several letters asking what can we do please I need a car that I can rely on. My father had died, my business was being taken over by my now ex-husband . I was going through a bitter divorce and I had no vehicle that I could rely on. K all the letters I sent to you , all the calls I sent, thank you for your replies just in case you did reply and it somehow slipped my vision since I was on bated breath waiting to have this car repurchased by your company. I guess you really don't care about the customer so don't put in verbage that you do. You not once did I hear back from you what a lousy customer service team you have and what a lousy experience this has been I had the car 2 weeks and I was already having a call for roadside assistance. I bought so many jump starters battery starters and cables. I had to buy batteries it wasn't the battery but nobody would listen to me.I think it was a switch between the push buttons and the fuse I don't know I'm not a mechanic. Tow truck drivers are saying it was the alternator but it definitely wasn't the battery I went through five myself Mazda had two , and they only did that to appease me to say okay here's your new battery little girl. Go away I only had 12 thousand miles on his car and it's a 2016 and a half if anybody is thinking about buying a Mazda used, look at the mileage. If it's exceptionally low like that don't buy it,! I could never make the car feel like it was new, and now the front seats are completely thrash and have them for last year and a half Reddit quality there guys at the top level of your cars brand new. I love the performance when it did run and in snow in the ice it was about the best car that I had experience of driving in such conditions where it would be outstanding. I relayed the story to Mazda but they didn't care. It left me stranded on a mountaintop where my car rolled backwards. It seems that used to re-energize itself and starts after an hour or so. I was all alone for 12 hours in the middle of a forest, in the mountains and a full moon the car wouldn't lock because the back hatchback part was not closed quite enough. So there I sat alone with no phone , no computer , no communication at all. No food, no drinks scared to death. Eventually i fell asleep and when I woke up the car was two inches a way from running into a vacation home in Tahoe ..fun nobody got back to me on that letter either. I wanted to have a new car experience , I mean I've owned jaguars and jeeps in Dodge stealths , the list goes on but when you buy a brand new car and you want to have that new car experience but the new car smell is the only thing that was good about the car being new , maybe you are biased against women and don't want to acknowledge them because you feel that they have a pea brain when it comes to mechanical problems or cars any deal with their husbands. I don't know , but that's what your dealership did in Roseville AutoNation rah rah. But the new car experience , it wasn't there!!!! To bad you could not get back to me. A "valued customers".?

There is a problem with a high pitch squealing sound in a cross wind. Not acceptable. They say they are working on a fix

Small and compact, but light fry ride.
The engine does not offer enough pickup, the acceleration responsiveness feels laggy to me and find the steering response to be somewhat jerky. Not a huge fan of the way the vehicle drives. I also prefer a more airtight vehicle, this car feels light weight.

In love with my new SUV, perfect size.
At least this car at the beginning of this year. I had an Infiniti before. But I love my Mazda, it drives very smoothly. It is a nice size for an SUV not too big not too small and it has a good size trunk. It has a backup camera it does not beep to let you know we had to close which I am not too happy about but I do love that it has a backup camera.

Mazda! Will always be a Mazda owner for life.
Reliable car, very comfortable. Definitely would recommend a Mazda to anyone looking for a car. I love the safety features such as the automatic braking. Also, it is very comfortable for if you are traveling due to being seated up higher and plenty of room. In the interior.

What Do Critics Say About the Mazda CX-5?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Mazda CX-5 offers a good mix of a sporty driving experience and an upgraded cabin with high owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the CX-5 at 4.3/5, praising the upscale cabin for the money, but doesn’t like the firm suspension.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the CX-5 a 4.4/5, praising the athletic driving experience, but owners don’t like that it’s not as roomy as other small SUVs.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Have?

Common problems on the 2019 Mazda CX-5 include premature brake wear, a frozen stereo system, along with some worn-out front suspension components. Overall, these problems are relatively minor since they focus on consumable parts of a car, leading to average repair bills as the CX-5 ages.

Premature brake wear is the most common complaint from 2019 Mazda CX-5 owners in the first 20,000 miles. There are reports of noise from the brake pads at around 15,000 miles, and if you don’t replace them quickly you may need new rotors by 20,000 miles. Brake pads are roughly $380 to change, while a new set of rotors can cost over $600.

A frozen stereo system is another issue mentioned by CX-5 owners in the first 5,000 miles. There are software updates available for the stereo system which improves its overall reliability. Most of the updates can be installed for free by a dealership, while some charge around $50.

Worn-out front suspension components, including the struts, show up on some Mazda CX-5 models in the first 25,000 miles. If you regularly take your CX-5 down rough roads, or down light trails, the suspension parts get more wear and tear. Replacing the front struts costs around $350, depending on local labor rates.

There are two recalls on the 2019 Mazda CX-5, which is better than some other compact SUVs on the market. The first recall covers a software error which can cause the engine to stall, Mazda will update the software for free. The second recall covers a fuel pump failure which can also cause the engine to stall. Mazda will replace the fuel pump assembly for free on affected models.

How Long Will the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Mazda CX-5 can last around 250,000 miles, which is only slightly shorter than the long-lasting Toyota RAV4. Regular annual maintenance costs are lower than other small SUVs, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at around $320 per year.

As a used 2019 Mazda CX-5 reaches 100,000 miles and depending on the vehicle history owners should be prepared to replace the water pump for $600, engine oil cooler costing $375, along with the intake manifold gasket which costs around $400.

Feels like luxury with this beautifully made SUV.
With an elegant exterior and interior it would be easy to confuse this vehicle with an actual luxury brand. It has a stunning front grill and a great interior finish that looks better than any vehicle in its class. The controls and comfort inside are easy and intuitive to use. Carplay works great and the LCD and rear camera round out the usefulness.

Super reliable, spacious, comfortable, feels luxury, easy drive. I get great gas mileage, take it on long trips. It is a very smooth ride, has heated seats and I love the display screen. This is definitely one of my proudest purchases and I may be a Mazda driver for life after owning this car.

The look and feel of luxury at a down to earth level.
It is very stylish just as you might expect from a luxury vehicle. However, it is a Mazda fully equipped with a beautiful black interior and in the front from the outside a very distinguished looking grill. Equipped with easy to use controls and built in car play this SUV packs a beautiful punch!

There are problems with the USB port in which it will send sound through only 1 side of speakers. Performance wise, the car is quick, smooth, comfortable. Not a ton of road noise on the highway. Comfortable for long car rides/road trips. Would recommend this to someone looking for a smaller SUV.

Great drive but limited if you need space.
The car is comfortable and drives smooth. Sport mode is not great because the pick up does not stop until you take it out of sport mode. I should have upgraded to avoid that. If you have more than 2 kids I would get the cx9 because it has more room in the back. It is Bluetooth capable and I can use my apple carplay for directions, music and much more. I do not like the middle infotainment center. You have to use a circular dial to access all the controls. Some controls are on your steering wheel. My suggestion is to drive the car and really get a feel for how you like the middle controls.

The sport mode that accelerates quickly and smoothly.
I have no issues so far with performance or maintenance. It drives smoothly and accelerates quickly without jerking the car. It is spacious and allows for leg room in the front and back seats. The features including GPS, blind spot monitoring, emergency braking add to the car. I would like to have the option for sunroofs, remote start and fingerprint unlock for the doors.

Mazda cx-5 grey sport amazing car.
The Mazda cx-5 is an amazing car, comes with lots of amenities that any family would love to have. There is a lot of space in the back of the car for families that have more members. There is also a large trunk which is great for trips and everyday activities. Personally, the only downside that my family has had with the car is the gas. The mileage per gallon itself is good but it does not always correct display the amount of miles it can take or how many miles you will get.

Spacious reliable midsize SUV.
Comfortable midsize SUV, reliable, good stability on the road, smooth driving. Rear camera is great, I wish it had a front camera too. High and long profile on the from. Good acceleration, feels strong and secure. Which passenger seat had power instead or manual. Interior is clean with leather seats. Spacious back truck is useful, no touchless door open system that could be handy when carrying groceries.

Good car lacking some amenities.
I like generally how the car drives though it can sometimes be jerky, I like the size of the vehicle and I like the push start. I do not like that they wanted to charge me extra for a different color, that it does not include the option to open the car from the handle (I have to have my key in my hand, not just proximity) or that it does not include apple CarPlay standard.
accountCircle Sara J on May 11, 2021
Great touch screen, needs truck release.
My previous car was a higher trim level, so I was used to more bells and whistles. I like the big touch screen, and the easy of use while driving. I do not like that the trunk is not automatic, and I cannot even pop it while sitting in the car. You must have the key on you in order to open the trunk. Very frustrating in this time with curbside pick up, grocery pick up.

Mazda cx-5 is my best choice!
Nice car, do not notice any problem. Bought from dealer in 2019. The car is very quick. The Mazda cx-5 very good compact SUV. The cx-5 offers a sophisticated and elegant interior, comfortable seating, and a revamped infotainment system. The biggest knock against this Mazda is its below-average cargo space. It is a great value thanks to a long list of standard infotainment and driver assistance features, and higher trims offer plenty of options to those looking for more amenities and who have wiggle room in their budgets. The cx-5 has five seats, but in reality it can only seat five people if everyone in the second row is on the smaller side. The middle seat is narrow, and the outboard seat cushions encroach on middle-seat space. Mazda can comfortably seat four adults. Both rows of seats offer ample headroom, even in models with a moonroof. Second-row legroom is not class leading, but it should be fine for regular trips. The cx-5's front seats offer plenty of comfort and support. The driver enjoys a high and commanding seating position with good visibility in all directions.

I will say that the engine is small, so going from 0-60 takes some time, but for just an everyday car this works great. You can set the seats to conform to whoever is driving, which is very handy if multiple people drive one car. The trunk opens easily and closes with just a push of a button. Bluetooth is available which makes connecting to your phone easy. It does take some time to start up the system but once up and running it works great. Putting in an address does take some time as there are a lot of steps, but it does have a great GPS system that gives step by step directions wherever you need to go. Plenty of room in this vehicle which makes it easy to have multiple people ride with you. The trunk is also very spacious and the seats fold which makes it nice when hauling anything large around. I highly recommend this car.

Great size and price point but features could improve.
Bluetooth causes echo on phone calls. I think it is a great size vehicle at a reasonable price point for SUV. I think interior could be a bit nicer, including a larger sunroof. Gas mileage is ok, feels like it should be better given how new a model car it is. Second row is very spacious for having multiple adults in the car.

The GPS in this car is exceptional.
This car is so great. Perfect midsize car. Drives smoothly with great gas mileage. The censors are quite sensitive so they go off for the littlest reason without it being a problem. Heated seats, GPS, sunroof. I would definitely recommend it as an extra car.

My Mazda cx-5 is everything I could’ve hoped for!
I have only had my car for a few months now but so far I do not have any problems with it, especially performance wise. It gets great gas mileage, there’s more than enough room in it for myself, passengers, sporting equipment, & my dogs. It is extremely comfortable & also very stylish. I do not have any complaints for my Mazda cx-5.

My favorite part about the car is definitely the sunroof!
I have had the vehicle for a little over a year now and it is awesome. 4 years ago, I bought a 2016 Mazda 3. That car was great, but I am 6ft tall and was tired of struggling to get in my car. After graduating college in 2019, I decided that I wanted an SUV because it would be more spacious. Initially I wanted the cx-4 but the seat didn't go back far enough and didn't have enough leg room. I then came across the cx-5 and fell in love. The car is extremely roomy and has not given me any problems. The gas mileage is impeccable and the performance overall is amazing! The car has heated seats, a sunroof, CarPlay, dual temperatures, and even USB ports for the back seats. Of course just make sure you are getting your oil changes and tire rotations. This car does not disappoint!!

Great ride and handling for a great looking SUV.
Love the car has great new safety features, offers power and a great ride. Enjoying the ability to have lots of cargo capacity. Good for both commutes, errands and long haul trips. So far has been very reliable and easy to service. I hope it lasts a very long time into the future.

Great family car, worth a look!
Room for a family of 3 (including car seat). Wish I got the grand touring instead to have full leather seats and automatically remembers driver preferences for seat adjustments. Otherwise, the car has plenty of space, drives smoothly, great speakers and safety features.

Great car for any type of person/family!
No problems at all. The most annoying thing is sometimes not being able to open the trunk when the car is on- but is that even really a problem? Very cost effective, amazing on gas, very comfortable & adjustable to your needs. Tech smart with apple play. Good for small or medium families. Great trunk space.

Info about my vehicle detail.
Reliability and performance. The fact that I don't have to spend a ton of money on gas neither really helps. Lots of space to put stuff in the back of the vehicle as well. The car is also low maintenance, which I love. Good surround sound speaker for a car and also safety features are a good one for a 2019 vehicle.

Awesome car everyone needs to buy!
Ford fusion has all of the bells and whistles with just the lower end models. It has drive assist, reverse camera and alerts if you have an object too close behind you. The headlights automatically come on when it is very dark. The wipers come on automatic when it is raining.

Sporty exterior, sleek interior, lots of room!
My Mazda cx-5 is great on gas, has a sporty look to it on the exterior, has lots of space in the backseat as well as in the trunk, the interior is sleek, clean and modern, the engine is very smooth, it is not expensive to fill up the gas. It drives well in rain and snow too.

It is a boat with wheels to be honest.
Comfortable seating. HVAC works well, has a feature that syncs both sides of vehicle to same temperature or keeps them separate by desired temperatures sometimes the sync does not remain on after trips in the vehicle but that is not a big deal. The brakes work well. Driving alert system works well... Too well. Unsure if steering assist works but it is there. Radio and Bluetooth work well. The audio for Bluetooth while streaming video is delayed. Seat warmer... Yes. Seat cooler... Still waiting.

Greatest car - Mazda cx-5.
It is very comfortable. It has every option that I believe a vehicle should have. It has heads up display, cooled seats, heated steering wheel, cruise control, etc. Seat has memory for two people so when someone else drives my car, I can easily put my seat back where it belongs. It is very reliable.

Mazda cx 5 best vehicle for the price!
I have driven my cx 5 for about a year now and I cannot say enough about this amazing car! From the gas mileage to the ride comfort and everything in between I love it. This has been my favorite car purchase and I cannot wait to purchase my next one to see what they have in store in the future.

My Mazda cx-5 feels like a luxury car.
I have had my car for about a year and a half and I absolutely love it. It is roomy, beautiful on the inside, and has two tone black and tan leather that makes it feel like a luxury car. I am leasing and heavily considering buying it when my lease is up because I do not want to let it go!

Upscale interior. Very spacious in front and back. Large back space.
Bought the car earlier this year as a family car. Very comfortable 1 both front, passenger and back seats. Love the interior., wry spacious for short city trips and long road trips. Wish the back(5 door) be automatic. Takes time to accelerate, gobbles gas.

Great car! Spacious! Would buy again!
Great on gas, compact vehicle, fits 3 golden retrievers without a problem, has plenty of room, it needs a better radio system and apple car play does not come with the vehicle. Some minor bug fixes with the radio. The sport model does not have electrical seats. Also, all the models sport, touring etc have the same horsepower which is upsetting.

Lane assist alerts you when you are drifting into another lane.
This vehicle comes with various safety features. These include such features as blind spot detector, smart auto lights, lane assist, and smart cruise control. The vehicle also comes with apple and android CarPlay. This is especially helpful if you do not pay for the navigation or XM radio - you can use navigation from your phone and it will appear on the screen.

Distance tracking let’s you go the distance with ease.
It has a full technology package, including distance tracking, blind spot monitoring, emergency braking, one touch hatch opening. It drives smoothly, and brakes wonderfully. The engine is very quiet. You can almost forget the engine is on. With distance tracking, the cruise control is a really fantastic features for long, interstate drives.

The Bose speakers are amazing.
This car is very good for a beginner car. I love the look of it inside and out. The screen though, will shutdown one or two times while I am using the car if I haven't driven it for awhile. I really like the Bose speakers as well. They are perfect for a car ride jam.

Great value, luxury details.
My Mazda cx-5 is great on gas and has a smooth ride. This is the second one I have leased and I will probably continue to lease from Mazda. I have never owned or leased a “luxury”/ expensive brand car but when I ride in these cars that my friends have, I find that my Mazda is comparable to these cars.

Feels like luxury at a steal price!
My car drives very smoothly and I like the safety features. My favorite safety feature is the indication for a car in the lane next to you. I also enjoy that the automatic lights include auto bright lights. The seats of the car are very comfortable and I enjoy the heated seats feature.

Silver medium sized Mazda cx- 5 with the extra luxury interior items.
It is a really comfortable car- I have two versions of it- one with extra stuff like heated seats and a sunroof and one without. I use the one with more things more often but it drives very smooth and I like the look of it- the silver looks sleek and clean and it looks more expensive than it is.

Mazda cars keep up with the technology and safety of today
Drives very smoothly, rated one of the safest cars in America, is very up to date with car technology, offers different trim levels at different prices, the 2019 models offer a sleeker look, the base model has been updated to keep up with the market (I.e. Can identify cars up to two car lengths behind you for passing safety)

Something I think is really cool is the display behind the wheel!
I have had this car for a few months now and I absolutely love it! Equipped with a back-up camera, sunroof, and great sound system the grand touring trim checked off everything on my checklist! The soft leather and the comfort level of the vehicle also adds for a comfortable and smooth ride!

Reliable family vehicle.
It is a family car. Back passenger windows do not go all the way down. No button on the keys to open the trunk and car must be off to open trunk. Gas per mile is high. Does have really good back camera. Requires at least 10 feet to get in front of another vehicle.

Mazda cx-5 better than a luxury car.
I love my Mazda cx-5 grand touring. I haven't had any problems since purchasing it over a year ago. My favorite features are the leather seats and the seat heaters. The backup camera is clear and helpful, especially in tight spaces. We have taken several road trips, and there is plenty of room for my large breed dog and suitcases.

Overall excellent car for any type - single or family.
Very reliable. Comfortable. Luxury feel interior. Smooth ride. Bose speakers. Apple play compatible. Comfortable cruise control. Automatic seat adjustment is easy to use and comfortable in all positions. Very comfortable car to be in, can take on short drives or long drives. We took trip from central Texas to Colorado and the ride was perfect and comfortable.

CarPlay is amazing, it also has Bluetooth and auto windows.
It has a ton of storage, has helped me move two times, both myself and my boyfriend. It is great on gas mileage- averages around $20-30 every two weeks. White exterior black cloth interior. Heating and cooling.
I absolutely love my Mazda cx-5. I got it right out of college and it has been so useful and give me no problems at all. I have a basic model which does just fine for me I wish I had some of the cooler features such as a sunroof but it gets the job done! My car is white with black interior and has a great heating and cooling system.
