Editor's Overview

Anyone who thinks a compact car can't be stylish, fuel-efficient, technologically advanced and a hoot to drive hasn't met the Mazda3. Yes, Mazda's compact sedan and hatchback have some of the finest driving dynamics this side of an Audi, but the Mazda also outpaces rivals in efficiency with up to 41 mpg and tech features like automatic emergency braking.

That even though the car appears small and lacking in power, it is the complete opposite. This car does not leave you wanting more horsepower because of Its size, so that is not something you have to compromise on, it also gives you good mileage compared to other cars in Its class.

I really like my vehicle because it has everything I need, it's not to big or small, it saves so much gas, it has a backup Camera and blind spot monitoring. This is my second vehicle and this time around I was able to choose a car that fitted my needs better, this vehicle does not generate costly repairs and has the horsepower that I can work with. My only complaint would be that the back seat is not as roomy as I first thought, making it hard to fit four people, let alone five. I wish they had made the trunk less roomy and used that extra space for more leg room in the back seats.

It handles much nicer than most other midsize sedans which gives it a slightly rougher ride

The Mazda3 is a very fun car to drive. The suspension is tuned to be pretty stiff compared to other sedans which doesn't give it as nice of a drive but has much less body roll than other cars. The stock stereo system is very very nice but maybe a bit imbalanced at certain volumes. The interior is well built considering it is considered a "cheaper" car. It's a blast to drive, gets good gas mileage, and the stereo sounds great. The only downsides are that the 2.0L is a bit underpowered above about 60 mph but is almost unnoticeable at lower speeds as it is light

The 2016 Mazda 3 is a comfortable and reliable casual drive car that still has a "sporty" feel to it.

The 2016 Mazda 3 is a proven safe quality vehicle for my needs. It has a 2 liter engine that accelerates at a good casual speed (as in you're trying race anyone but don't want to be sluggish). As a four-door vehicle, both front and rear seating is spacious and is made of a long-lasting cloth-type of material. The car has a comfortable "sporty" feel to it with sturdy suspension. Safety features are definitely solid steel reinforcement. I recommend this to anyone who looking for a casual drive car.

Safety Recalls (4)

chevronDown icon
Fuel System, Gasoline > Storage > Tank Assembly Sep 21, 2016
Report Receipt Date:
Sep 21, 2016
NHTSA Campaign:
16V684000
Summary:
Mazda Motors North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Mazda3 vehicles manufactured January 4, 2014, to September 18, 2015. The fuel tank of the affected vehicles may have been improperly handled during manufacturing and, as a result, the welded attachment of the Inlet Check Valve (ICV) may fail and allow fuel to leak.
Consequence:
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
Remedy:
Mazda will notify owners, and depending on the tank lot number, dealers will inspect the ICV weld, replacing the fuel tank, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began November 1, 2016. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 0116I.

NHTSA Campaign:
16V685000
Summary:
Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2016 Mazda3 vehicles manufactured September 24, 2015, to October 16, 2015. During manufacturing, the fuel tanks for the affected vehicles may have deformed, resulting in a fuel leak from the recirculation pipe welded connection.
Consequence:
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
Remedy:
Mazda will notify owners, and depending on the tank lot number, dealers will inspect the recirculation pipe weld, replacing the fuel tank, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began November 1, 2016. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 0216I.

Parking Brake Jun 21, 2017
Report Receipt Date:
Jun 21, 2017
NHTSA Campaign:
17V393000
Summary:
Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Mazda6 and 2014-2016 Mazda3 vehicles. Water could possibly enter the brake caliper causing the parking brake actuator shaft to corrode and possibly bind.
Consequence:
If the parking brake actuator shaft binds, the parking brake may not engage or disengage fully. If the parking brake does not engage properly, the vehicle may move unexpectedly if it is parked on a slope, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy:
Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will check the parking brake actuator shafts, replacing any that are corroded, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed August 24, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 1217F.

Fuel System, Gasoline > Storage > Tank Assembly Oct 1, 2015
Report Receipt Date:
Oct 1, 2015
NHTSA Campaign:
15V621000
Summary:
Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Mazda3 vehicles manufactured May 21, 2015, to August 25, 2015. The affected vehicles are equipped with a fuel tank with a shut-off valve that can allow fuel to enter into the fuel tank emissions systems. If enough fuel enters the emission system it may leak out onto the ground or result in an engine stall.
Consequence:
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. An engine that stalls increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy:
Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicle's fuel shut-off valve. As needed, the fuel shut-off valve and the affected fuel tank emissions system components will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on October 20, 2015. Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the repairs have been completed. Mazda will provide rental cars until that time. Owners may contact the Mazda Customer Experience Center at 1-800- 222-5500, option #6. Mazda's number for this recall is 8615J.
