Alex Showalter
Sep 19, 2023

The 2019 Nissan Versa lasts around 200,000 miles, with some relatively minor brake wear and stereo system issues reported. At $10,575 to $17,500, it’s an excellent value for shoppers on a budget looking for a car to get them from point A to B.

likeFilled The Good
There’s a lot of passenger room, running costs are lower than the competition and the suspension is smooth.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The engine is fairly weak for a small car, it doesn’t have safety features found on competitors and the cabin is basic.

Is the 2019 Nissan Versa a Good Used Car?

  • Overall Rating 7/10 – 2019 is a good year for the Nissan Versa since it offers great practicality and low running costs. Owner reviews praise the reliable engine, fuel economy, and the smooth suspension.
  • Interior, Comfort & Cargo 7/10 – Interior materials are durable and basic, the seats are supportive on longer trips, cargo space is also great in the trunk.

Great price for performance and reliability.
I love the car. One of my favorite things is the durability. I haven't really had any problems with my engine or anything like that. I also like the space. Although it's not enough space, for a smaller person like me it's all I need. The price is also really good for what it is.

2019 Nissan versa review:
I only have a few issues with my vehicle. The two biggest ones being I wish there was more storage in the front of the vehicle like in the center console. I also have an issue with when I connect my phone via Bluetooth my monitor shuts down and reboots. Other than these two things this is a great car. The trunk is spacious and the interior is very sleek.

Reason why I love my Nissan versa.
It is a very dependable car and a good gas saver. It also is very roomy on the inside to be a small car. It is a very affordable car and family and children friendly. It also does not take much to fill the car up at any gas station. I would classify it as a family friendly vehicle.

Sleek, safe, and modern: a must buy.
The vehicle is very recent, so I haven't had any problems with it yet. However, one of my favorite things about it are: the rear-view cam, the touch screen complete with navigation and apps, I love the sleek design, and the safety features such as lane switching alerts.

My Nissan versa is the best car ever!!
I have not had any problems with my versa. It has been one of the most reliable cars. The seats are really comfortable, although the steering wheel is a bit small so you may want to invest in a steering wheel cover. It gets up to speed well and brakes nicely.
accountCircle Karen R
The car is a royal blue and looks very nice.
It is reliable and dependent. It starts each morning and drives very smooth. It holds my items when I go shopping and the seats fold down for easy access and life up and close easily. On the highway it drives very smooth and is very good on gas and mileage.

No power windows or locks. But has a backup camera.
It's a compact sedan. It looks small on the outside, but very roomy on the inside. The car is great on gas. I rarely have to fill my car $21 fills my car and it last for a good little while. It is a standard model, no electric features except for the backup camera and Bluetooth.

Fantastic car! I would highly recommend it!
So far, I love my car. It has a backup camera, Bluetooth, and cruise control, which were all things I was looking for in a car. I have not had any issues so far and I have had it for about a year now. The biggest issue I have is that the doors will not automatically unlock until you have turned off the car. I think it would be better if they unlocked when you put the car in park.

The car is very good on gas.
It's good on gas. The car was cheap I was not looking to spend a lot of money being a rent broke college graduate. I would not get this car again and it's super slow and not enough leg from for someone over 6 feet. The radio always restarts at random moments when driving.

It gets good gas mileage. I have a 2018 and just bought 2 months ago and the main window mechanism stopped working. Not covered news told I never had the warranty when I was told I did. Very disappointed

Do not buy this car it has good features but not enough power and not big enough.
Had to fix brake switch twice and relay switch once. Shouldn't have these problems after having the car two years. Car used to run great before and mileage was good but now after two years it gets less mileage and it is too small. I do love the backup camera and how you can connect your phone to apple carplay. You can take important phone calls while driving hands free.

Its wide affordable and trustworthy.
The gas runs out pretty fast, its high maintenance but it's worth it because besides the gas it's a pretty trustworthy vehicle, I love how smoothly it drives and I love that its wide in the inside making it good to fit plenty of things, I feel safe driving this vehicle.

2019 Nissan stuck in 2003. Basic car with few upgraded features.
Great car overall. Gets me to where I need to go. But lacking in features to be a 2019 vehicle. No automatic locks or windows. Basic digital screen. Does include backup camera and Bluetooth connection. Would be a good first car for people. Just not what I expected a 2019 vehicle to be like.

Good buy! The best part I like about the car is the Bluetooth.
It drives smooth. The mileage is pretty good but I do not like the way how it does not have those automatic doors. I do like the Bluetooth in the car where you can play your favorite music and stuff and I also like the rear view camera when you back up. Other than that, it is pretty good car.

Nissan versa 2019 review by a small family women who owns a 5 year old boy.
Good for a small family. Through the locks and window glass are not automatic, I never had any problems with them. A/c feels inadequate in summer. In order to feel the a/c you have to start the car before few minutes and run the ac for few minutes. Good legroom.

Great gas mileage with comfy interior.
This car is great on gas. Gets approximately 325 miles per tank. Road performance is also good. Features a backup camera, Bluetooth, black cloth interior. Used mostly for road trips for gas mileage. Low maintenance. Large trunk space. Comfortable overall interior.

What Do Critics Say About the Nissan Versa?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2019 Nissan Versa offers extremely efficient engines and a practical cabin, with high owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Versa at 4/5, enjoying the comfortable suspension on bumpy roads, but doesn’t like the noisy cabin.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the 2019 Versa a 3.9/5, praising the roomy interior for its small size, but owners don’t like the basic features like manual crank windows.

What Common Problems Does the 2019 Nissan Versa Have?

Common problems found on the 2019 Nissan Versa include excessive brake wear, a frozen stereo system, along with a loss of fuel pressure. Overall, these problems are similar to other small cars on the market, leading to average repair costs as a Versa ages.

Excessive brake wear is the most common complaint from 2019 Versa owners, showing up at around 12,500 miles. Stock brake pads tend to wear down quicker than on some competitors. Replacing the brake pads costs around $250, while new rotors cost an additional $450 if they have been damaged.

A frozen stereo system has also been reported by some Versa owners within the first 1,000 miles. Usually, the problem is caused by a simple software issue. There are some updates for the stereo software, which most dealers will install for free, in some cases dealers charge around $50 for the labor.

A loss of fuel pressure is a more rare issue mentioned by Versa owners at around 40,000 miles. A worn-out fuel pump is the most likely culprit for this issue. Replacing the fuel pump costs around $550, depending on local labor rates and fixes the problem.

There’s only one recall on the 2019 Nissan Versa, which is better than other small cars on the market. The recall covers the backup camera, which will not display an image. Nissan will update the backup camera software on affected models for free.

How Long Will the 2019 Nissan Versa Last?

A well-maintained 2019 Nissan Versa can last around 200,000 miles, which is shorter than some other small cars like the Toyota Corolla. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to many competitors, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $387 per year.

As a used Nissan Versa reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history report, owners should be prepared to replace the transmission mounts for $285, blower motor costing $450, along with the alternator, which is around $600.

accountCircle Elizabeth G

No problems as of yet I am very happy with the vehicle and recommend them to everyone. I do not see any problems in the future and have a maintenance plan.

accountCircle Oneallah B

Yes my vehicle has not had any major mechanical problems except for routine oil changes and tire pressure checks.

accountCircle Steve V

I have not encountered any problems with the vehicle. It is a standard motor and as long as you can control the shifts it has good power. Base features are good easy to navigate.

accountCircle Lindsay P

I have not had any problems with my versa so far. It gives me no problems and really is my go to vehicle for my everyday needs.

How Is the Technology?

The standard entertainment technology in the 2019 Nissan Versa is good, with a 7-inch touchscreen display and Bluetooth. Optional upgrades include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

Standard safety technology is basic, only offering a rearview camera. There’s no advanced driver assistance features available.

Is the 2019 Nissan Versa a Good Value?

Yes, the 2019 Nissan Versa  is a great value for a compact car since it offers a lot of space and practicality for the money. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $10,575 to $17,500, making it less than a Honda Civic or Ford Fiesta. When new, the price range was $12,460 to $18,360. Depreciation is better than other compact cars, only losing around 5% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Nissan Versa?

There are three main models of the 2019 Nissan Versa offered, from the entry-level S, through to the more upscale SV. All Versa models come standard with front-wheel drive.

S is the entry-level model with:

  • Five-speed manual transmission.
  • 15-inch steel wheels.
  • Power mirrors.
  • Manual locks.
  • Crank windows.
  • Air conditioning.
  • Rearview camera.
  • 0-inch touchscreen display.
  • Bluetooth connectivity.
  • USB port.
  • Four-speaker sound system.
  • Auxiliary audio jack.

S Plus is a step up, adding:

  • Continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
  • Cruise control.
  • Rear spoiler.

SV is the flagship model, which has:

  • Upgraded cloth upholstery.
  • Height-adjustable driver seat.
  • Driver-seat armrest.
  • 60/40-split-folding rear seat.
  • Power windows and locks.
  • Chrome exterior door handles.
  • Keyless entry.

What Engines Come In the Nissan Versa?

The 2019 Nissan Versa is outfitted with a singular engine option across its range. It’s powered by a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 109 horsepower at up to 34 MPG. This engine can be paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). In terms of acceleration, the 2019 Versa takes its time, reaching 0-60 mph in around 11 seconds with the CVT, which isn’t particularly fast for the segment.

What Colors Does the Nissan Versa Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Nissan Versa?

The 2019 Nissan Versa, while being one of the more affordable options in its class, offers a decent level of comfort for its price point. It provides ample headroom and legroom, especially in the front seats, guaranteeing that even taller passengers and drivers can find a comfortable seating position. The rear seats, though a bit tighter, can accommodate adults for shorter journeys.

The suspension is designed to absorb most road imperfections, providing a relatively smooth ride in typical urban and highway conditions. However, some users might find the seat cushioning a bit on the firmer side, and the base model lacks certain amenities that would enhance comfort. Noise insulation is decent, but not exceptional, so some road and wind noise might intrude at higher speeds. Overall, while the Versa might not be the pinnacle of luxury, it offers a commendable level of comfort given its budget-friendly nature.

How Much Storage Space Does the Nissan Versa Have?

The 2019 Nissan Versa is renowned for offering impressive interior space despite its compact exterior dimensions. The sedan version boasts 14.9 cubic feet of trunk space. This substantial space can comfortably accommodate a couple of full-size suitcases or a week’s worth of groceries.

It’s even roomy enough for items like a stroller or golf clubs. On the inside, passengers will also appreciate the various storage compartments, including door pockets, a reasonably sized glovebox, and cup holders. The Versa also features an available 60/40-split fold-down rear seat, providing versatility when you need to transport longer items while still accommodating passengers.

VehicleHistory Image

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The second generation of the Nissan Versa was introduced for the 2012 model year.

2015: Minor exterior styling changes, upgraded cabin materials, Bluetooth is also standard on all models.

2016: Body-colored power mirrors and a new four-speaker stereo system on all models.

2017: Updated SV Special Edition package with upgraded interior panels.

2018: SL model discontinued, Base model is now only available with a manual transmission.

2019: SV Special Edition model has more features than earlier years.

2020: Fully redesigned for the third generation with new engines, styling, technology, and extra safety features.

2021: No updates after being fully redesigned last year.

How Does the Nissan Versa Compare to the Competition?

The 2019 Nissan Versa is a very good compact car, offering a lot of passenger room and low ownership costs, helping it earn our recommendation for shoppers on a budget.

The Nissan Sentra is another small car from Nissan, which is available for about $4,500 more. Technology features are better in the Nissan Sentra, while the Nissan Versa has lower long-term ownership costs. We recommend the Nissan Sentra since it’s more up to date, but the Versa is a good choice if the Sentra doesn’t fit into your budget.

The Kia Forte is a popular compact car, which is available for around $2,000 more. Standard safety technology is better in the Kia Forte, while the Nissan Sentra offers a more spacious interior. We recommend the Kia Forte since it’s a more advanced car, although both are very similar for the 2019 model year.

Why you should have a 2019 Nissan versa.
The Nissan versa is a great car! It is very roomy & high - tech, even though it looks the total opposite. The only flaw is that you do not have automatic windows, but on the bright side you have a rear view camera and also Bluetooth installed into your radio.

Good economic use of gasoline. Reasonably easy to maintain.
Seems to be ok so far, but the complexity of the controls will put some buyers off. The windshield control has so many features including washing that it is difficult to operate while driving. Lack of a center control console between the two front seats is unfortunate. The glove box is very spacious as is the trunk.

The car was affordable and since it is my first car I am very attached to it.
My versa does not have automatic doors so I have to manually unlock stuff and roll down windows. Though I overall enjoy it, it is easy to drive though I wish it went faster. I also like the fact it has a Bluetooth speaker though I wish it was more interactive like other cars. I like how easy the car is to clean as well, and it is very easy to drive.

2019 Nissan versa - a lot of bang for your buck (in a tiny package).
No problems, and it gets great gas mileage. It is a baseline model, and could use a few upgrades for luxury, but it is great otherwise. It is a bit noisy when on the interstate, but that is to be expected. The media on the dash is great! I had always wanted a back up camera. The price cannot be beat, either. For the quality, I found the versa to be the best deal out there.

I have had no problems with my Nissan versa so far. Drives really well and is great on gas. Takes about $13 to fill up. It floats on the highway despite it being quite small. I really love my 2019 Nissan versa! It runs smoothly and really helps get me where I need to go. The seats are super comfortable and easily adjustable which is a plus for people with really long legs or shorter legs. Nissan versa: cute and dependable.
It is a cute vehicle. Although it is a small car, there's plenty of room for 4 people. I use it mostly for work so it is usually just me in the car. Sometimes 1 other person when I carpool. I like the trim and the gray color is nice. Gas mileage is good as well, although the tank is small. I usually only need to fill up once a week even though I have a distance to drive to work. Someone else I met with the same car, called it 'zippy', and I agree with that statement. My sister has borrowed it and she says it is very comfortable for her to drive. I am taller than she is and sometimes feel after a long drive that my upper back is stiff, but I also have a lot of orthopedic issues that could be contributing factors. I chose a model that didn't have automatic windows or doors so it is a bit of a nuisance but that was my choice as I was trying to save money since I already had another car loan I am still making payments on. It is a dependable little car so far, only tires occasionally need air.

The brakes are very touchy and it accelerates a little slow but the gas mileage is great! The inside of the car is very spacious even though it looks small from the outside. There is a lot of room in the trunk and overall just has a lot of room in the right places. I have never had any problems with my versa but I have only had it for a year. But so far, it is great and drives so smoothly. Since the brakes are touchy it is perfect for quick stops when needed. Also, the rear camera is amazing and makes getting out of the driveway and parking spots so much easier. The Bluetooth radio is also a big plus. And the speakers in the car are great!

I love my Nissan versa. It is very reliable, gets great mileage, and can really zip around when I need it too. It looks like a small sedan from the outside, but it is deceptively roomy with plenty of space for 4 people comfortably and 5 if needed. I love that I only buy gas every other week ( if that). There is a ton of trunk space for such a small car! It is easy to maintain and because there is not a lot of technology, things do not break! It feels like a much more expensive car than it is to me. Also, it drives super well and smoothly and handles bumps very well for such a small car!

I would not recommend nor would I purchase the vehicle again.
I purchased a 2019 Nissan versa sedan at the end of 2018 brand new. I had previously owned a Nissan sentra so putting aside the features, I expected it to still be a quality product. After having it for a few days, I noticed all the aggravating things, some big and some small, but still aggregations nonetheless, starting to add up and fast. I do not like that it has no center console. The lack of place to put off and ends and add on where does my right arm go? Apparently awkwardly on my lap waiting room style. I do not like how high the seat sits me. I am barely 5'5' but the top of my head is only 2-3 inches from the roof. This being said, my body is out-of-place as it's taking up the entire window. Does good on gas mileage, but forbid you are waiting in a turn lane and a small, compact car going some under the speed limit drives straight by your versa, you and your versa are rocked so dramatically that it not only looks but feels like you are going to flip over. The back seat does not flip down. No storage space. Was sold without an antenna so barely able to listen to local radio even.

The screen in the vehicle makes reversing, or pulling out, a lot easier.
I haven't personally had any problems with my vehicle. I love how easy it is to control the seats are cloth and don't get too hot. The screen in the car helps a lot while trying to drive out of a thin parking spot. The air conditioner and the heating both work fantastic.

Small car, scenic countryside drives.
It is a compact sedan, perfect for getting around the busy city but still large enough to contain a family of 4. The miles per gallons are awesome for weekend get seats without breaking the back door to high fuel prices. The interior can be snug if large or tall, but still comfortable. Plenty of acceleration with smooth handling to make road trips enjoyable. IPhone and backup camera connections, and other accessories are available as part of upgrades. Very reliable car, no minor it major mechanical or other issues at this time.

Nissan versa dependable car for 1.
It is very reliable car. I just do not like that it does not heat up theory quickly in the air conditioner does not cool is sufficiently as I feel. It gets great gas mileage and is efficient to run. It isn't very roomy. It is a great basic car. It provides transportation.

Great car! Runs very well, takes me where I need to go.
This is the first vehicle that I purchase and I have been nothing but satisfied and happy with my car. Runs great, very reliable, has Bluetooth and a USB plug in for charging. Very spacious as well. I am a fast driver so it was important for me that the car can handle it and it does so very well.

Gas tank mileage is probably the best feature for this vehicle.
No problems, very good car, like a mini race car. Spacious backseat and trunk too. It has a very good gas tank on it too, you can easily go two weeks without filling it up especially driving it a lot. Price is pretty good too, a full tank can be around $20.

Great affordable Nissan sedan.
Only slightly hard to steer. I like that it does not back up on hills. It is spacious, roomy. I still have to learn the features. Nice so far. No problems with gas - it seems to be decent on gas so far. It does not have big pick up speed, which is fine for me, because I drive the speed limit. I would say it is average when comparing speed.

The car is a royal blue and looks very nice.
It is reliable and dependent. It starts each morning and drives very smooth. It holds my items when I go shopping and the seats fold down for easy access and life up and close easily. On the highway it drives very smooth and is very good on gas and mileage.

Black 2019 Nissan versa with black interior.
The Nissan versa is a comfortable vehicle to drive. It struggles to speed up quickly so it not meant for anyone who enjoys a car that picks up speed within seconds. Interior seating is made of fabric and seats are very comfortable. Steering wheel is adjustable and the car drives smoothly.

Features of turning them on without putting the key into something.
Breaks start to sound over time. Is comfortable seats. Media screen is not that useful. Love color. Adjustable seats. So small that fits everywhere but comfortable and enough space. It is a really saver for gas and great to travel. Love the key system.

The Nissan versa is a fantastic car!
I love my Nissan versa! It is a smooth ride, with great gas mileage. I feel safe and secure when driving it. I love the touch screen feature and steering wheel controls. The only downside is that I wish it had automatic locks and windows. Other than that, it is a fantastic car.

Review on our Nissan versa.
Very casual car, rides very smooth. Also has a lot of luxuries. The car has a very powerful engine along with an awesome backup camera. This car was for my girlfriend it fits a woman perfect. She loves the car. There is a full 10 inch touch screen as the radio. The gas mileage is 35 plus and it is very good on gas in general.

I love my versa - it is a small car with lots of great features.
I love the roominess of the interior of the car. It is a small vehicle, but it does not feel cramped inside. My only issues with the seating is the headrest. It might just be my build and the way that I sit, but the headrest is at such an angle that it pushes my head forward! It is very uncomfortable when I wear my hair back in a ponytail. I have had no issues with reliability, and it performs well in winter weather so far! Because it is a small car, it heats up and cools down pretty well. I wish the air conditioner were a bit stronger, but I know that a change of that nature would also impact gas mileage. I prefer the awesome gas mileage! The display screen is also nice. Intuitively designed, it is easy for me to navigate it. It is not distractingly bright at night.

Nissan versa 2019- the possibilities are endless with Nissan.
Very reliable car, with very good mileage on gas. If you are planning a trip or going to run errands, it is very reliable on gas. Also very roomy if you have children, like me and my husband. Has a touchscreen radio and allows connections of all kinds to connect to play music and more. Trunk is very spacious and lots of room to haul just about anything. Has all cloth seats which is good in the summertime cause they do not get to hot and especially great in the winter so they do not get cold on your bottom. But when you have children it may not be so great, unless you get the protectant that Nissan offers and it is amazing. Just have to wipe up the spill and go on about your business, like it never even happened.

Cheap car that works great for the price.
The car works really great but the settings are rather basic. The car is really small, and there's no Bluetooth option in the car, which is a hassle to connect phone audio to that of the car's. Cheap car, but does not have much options. Adding more accessories to the car is not worth the price.

Review of 2019 Nissan versa s.
Does not have automatic windows and it's very small. I can say it is a gas saver, does include backup camera and run pretty well. So far it have been very reliable I have drove it out of town a few time and haven't had a problem yet. I would recommend this car for parents buying for a teenager!
