Alex Showalter
Dec 14, 2022

The 2018 Ram 1500 lasts around 250,000 miles with some stereo system and fueling issues. At $23,612 to $47,231, it’s cheaper than many other large trucks, making it a good value for shoppers on a budget.

The suspension is very smooth, the cabin is very quiet with extra sound insulation and its 8.4-inch touchscreen is great.
dislikeFilled The Bad
It’s difficult to climb into the cabin compared to other trucks, there’s no advanced safety technology, and the towing capacity is relatively low.

It's a big truck, so don't pull out in front of it and expect it to stop.
I love the size of the vehicle. There is plenty of room for my family. The bed is also nice to store tools in when I'm working. I don't like the satellite radio, it hasn't worked properly since I got the truck from my dealer.

Awesome truck. Wouldn't buy any other brand.
No problems so far. 8 cylinder hemi has plenty of power and sounds pretty cool. May have the most comfortable ride of any full size pickup on the market. Haven't had any problems towing boats and trailers. Feels like nothing is back there. Love all the features I have especially the heated steering wheel. Sound system could be better but still not bad.

2018 ram 1500 sport crew cab 2wd comes from factory perfect.
It has the power needed to pull my boat. It is always reliable and ready to go when needed. It has room for 5 people which is plenty for my uses. I love the backup camera allows me to hook up to my boat alone. Would highly recommend this truck to anyone searching for that next step in life.

What I like most is the appearance. Ram trucks are the nicest trucks out there.
The ram truck is great. I had a ram truck from 2008 previously and was also great but the 2018 is much improved with all the bells and whistles that you could imagine. I will keep this truck for as long as it lasts and then buy another ram when it is time.

Ram 1500 longhorn supreme power and luxury.
My truck is amazing. It has leather seats which are heated, navigation system, great towing power and is a total luxury vehicle. It is absolutely amazing on long trips and does a great job when pulling my boat. It also is great when it comes to off road and I am so glad I purchased it.

Rebels are great trucks!!
This truck is loud, big and more powerful than I am used to. It is so much fun to drive around. It is the best truck. I just wish that it didn't have the air suspension because it causes a lot of issues. I wish that it was higher. But I love this truck.

Great reliable vehicle.
Only problem I have had is the radio getting a bubble on the screen and not working properly. Overall I love the truck, it is very reliable and it looks amazing. The radio is covered on the extended warranty I have so after I pay the $100 deductible it will be replaced which is awesome.
accountCircle Vernon M
It is very reliable and comfortable and has great safety features.
My vehicle has styling and looks beefy and has a tremendous amount of engine power and can haul over 10,000 pounds. It is comfortable and a multipurpose vehicle.

Waiting for parts/Terrible service
My 2018 Ram Eco Diesel has been in waiting for parts 1 month so far and every time I phone am told the same story waiting for parts. Hard to believe in this day and age . Buyer beware

Serious mechanical issues
This truck was bought new by company I work for, used daily, long and short commutes. Don't be surprised by the plastic oil filter holder on top the engine, that turns brittle with time and cracks. But biggest issue others need to know is truck developed lifter tick on start up after it sits for a day after driving. It last 2 minutes apon start up, not a mild tick, but serious tick, like old fashioned sewing machine, or solid lifter cam tick. This happened at 20 thousand miles. It has the 3.6 pentastar engine. Is this something you wanna give 30 grand for? Not me.

Be aware unit not staying in park
I like the truck, but have issues...first I dumped my 14 ram for continuous air suspension freezing.I stayed loyal and purchased an 18 limited-no air suspension..we’ll my 18 was parked in the driveway when it came out of park and slammed into the garage..dealers response-“contact your insurance company” I was expecting “ was there anyone hurt? Please bring the vehicle by to inspect. Weak customer service with another unit I can’t trust!

Corporation knows about issues, as has a to bad for you attitude.
Radio with backup camera died at 36, 280 miles, Chrysler corporation knows their is a issue with the system, and act's as to bad for you pal. I will purchase a Chevy Silverado or Tahoe next. Ram has good pick up, hemi 5.7, has a good ride, handles good, but their to bad concept is a bit much.

EcoDiesel
I got a great deal on leftover '18 last year & aware of the EcoDiesel's issues. You either get one that's grenades & scatters parts all over the ground, or you don't. Did purchase extended warranty. I have been waiting for the parts to be built for the EGR recall, some time in April. With the Coronavirus affecting the world, I don't expect parts to become available for several more months. My truck have an appetite for antifreeze, wonder how long before parts scatter on mine? Coolant in the combustion chamber affects the longevity of the motor. I bought the 1500 for daily use & long distance trips. It's amazing how quiet the motor is, same goes with lack of cabin noise. With 9K miles, it's been trouble free.I'm not getting Hwy mileage that others seem to get, keeping track of each tank and best tank at 65mph was 24 mpg. My lowest was 17 mpg at 75-80 mph. Perhaps after the recall my mileage will improve. It does great in the snow & ice here in Alaska, love the auto 4x4 mode. My '03 Ram 3500 Cummins will do 17-18 mpg at 55 mph, but kills my back unless it's loaded down. I would rate my truck at 4 stars if Ram wasn't making me wait so long for parts.
accountCircle Lindsey B
They should look up the safety ratings and watch the videos of it.
I like the dark gray interior and that is really spacious. I dislike the fact the navigation has to be hooked up through my phone to get to the screen. I also dislike that there's no dvd player or Wi-Fi option.

There are a lot of issues with this brand of vehicle. I should have purchased something different, but we liked the room that was in the cab.
Truck runs very well, but gets horrible gas mileage. I was able to get much better mileage out of my older truck (same exact truck, just an older model). Also has a lot of issues with the lifters in it, causing a lot of ticking to come from the engine.

What Do Critics Say About the Ram 1500?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2018 Ram 1500 offers a mix of luxury and practicality with good owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Ram 1500 at 4.3/5, praising the attractive interior materials, but doesn’t like that it’s missing some of the latest safety tech.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Ram 1500 a 4.6/5, enjoying the smooth suspension, but owners don’t like the lower towing capacity.

What Common Problems Does the 2018 Ram 1500 Have?

Common problems found on the 2018 Ram 1500 include the Uconnect screen failing, difficulty refueling, as well as some A/C system issues. Overall, these problems are similar to other large trucks, leading to average repair costs as the truck ages.

The Uconnect infotainment screen failing is the most widespread complaint at around 40,000 miles. Owners report that the screen separates from the rest of the stereo system as it gets older. This issue is more common in places with hotter summers, which allows the glue on the screen to melt. Replacing the entire screen assembly costs around $1,100, depending on local labor rates.

Difficulty refueling has also been mentioned by 2018 Ram 1500 owners in the first 20,000 miles. Usually, when it’s difficult to refuel there’s a venting issue on the gas tank or the fuel filler tube. Many owners refuel slower, while others have the fuel filler tube replaced, costing around $700.

A/C system issues with the main controller also show up on some Ram 1500 models in the first 30,000 miles. The electronic controller just fails as the truck gets older, and has to be replaced. Changing out the controller costs about $1,200.

There are 12 recalls on the 2018 Ram 1500, which is more than other trucks from the same year. The most serious recall covers the fuel pump which can fail, leading to a loss of power. Ram will replace the fuel pump on affected models for free. Another serious recall covers the driveshaft which can separate, fortunately it only is on 10,000 trucks. Other recalls cover the tailgate, and various software issues.

How Long Will the 2018 Ram 1500 Last?

A well-maintained 2018 Ram 1500 can last around 250,000 miles, which is around 100,000 miles less than the top-rated Toyota Tundra. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other full size trucks according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $539 per year.

As a used 2018 Ram 1500 ages and reaches 100,000 miles owners should be prepared to replace the ABS control module for $620, radiator costing $1,150, as well as the thermostat which costs around $600.

Yes very reliable and I have no problems with the truck whatsoever. Ima be keeping it forever. I love it.

accountCircle Kod W

I haven't had any issues with the truck so far, I just do regular maintenance and drive the truck, it works well.

accountCircle Francis E

The only problem and it is more of an annoyance than a problem is the sensors for the parking assist sometimes get covered in ice or bug residue which trip the sensors and the alarm stays on when backing up or when coming to a stop.

accountCircle Natasha G

The 2018 ram 1500 slt has only had one issue. When I put gas in it the pump clicks off because the truck thinks it is full. The dodge place fixed so now everything is good. I would definitely say that this truck is reliable. My husband and I bought the same exact truck but different colors and he loves his also. He has not had any issues with his.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is okay in the base Ram 1500 compared to other trucks from 2018 with a standard 5-inch screen. The optional upgraded 8.4-inch Uconnect system is very good, offering full Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well.

Safety technology is also lagging behind the competition, only offering a standard backup camera along with electronic stability control. Optional upgrades include front and rear parking sensors, as well as automatic high beams.

Is the 2018 Ram 1500 a Good Value?

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The fourth generation of the Ram 1500 came out in 2009, and was replaced by the fifth generation in 2019.

2015: New R/T model which is based on the Sport model.

2016: Upgraded center console standard on all models, new colors offered.

2017: Six-speed automatic transmission discontinued, Outdoorsman model removed as well.

2018: New Tungsten edition model, standard rearview camera on all models, updated 8.4-inch touchscreen Uconnect system.

2019: Fully redesigned for the fifth generation, higher towing capacity, new interior, exterior, and engine choices.

How Does the Ram 1500 Compare to the Competition?

The 2018 Ram 1500 is a very good truck since it offers a more upscale interior compared to the competition paired with a smooth suspension.

The Ford F-150 is another large truck which costs about $2,000 more. The towing capacity is higher on the Ford F-150, while the Ram 1500 has a more luxurious cabin for the money. We recommend the Ford F-150 since they last longer, although both are very good trucks for the 2018 model year.

The Toyota Tundra is another competitor which starts at nearly $5,000 more. Reliability ratings are better on the Toyota Tundra, while the Ram 1500 has a much smoother suspension, especially at highway speeds. We recommend the Toyota Tundra since it will last longer, and has a higher towing capacity.

5.7L Hemi Tick, exhaust manifold and bolts.
You would think by now this long known issue would have been resolved, but no, they just don't care because it is a lot of extra money for them when you need to get it fixed. Last year I had the right side done under warranty, why not do both sides. Now 6 months later my 2018 RAM is no longer under warranty and they want to charge me $1300 to do the left side. Never ever had a manifold or manifold bolts needing to be replaced on my Fords or GM's and they were much older with more mileage on them. Will definitely think twice about getting another RAM, and certainly won't be recommending them. It's to bad because I really liked the vehicle. When are you guys going to step up and make this a recall?

My husband is buying 2018 Ran truck. The engine is out. It has been in shop since April 13th. My husband has had oil changed whenever milage hits oil change mileage. Truck has 140,000 miles. The comfort and power is exceptional. I do not however like the knob for changing gears. I also do not like the turn radius as it is hard to make a u turn. The 5.7 liter hemi engine is nice and powerful. Gas consumption is also a plus considering the size of the engine!

The only problem I have had with this vehicle is occasionally one of the sensors on the front bumper will malfunction for a few minutes and then reconnects to the truck. I have yet to break down in this vehicle. The seats are super comfortable, even the back seat is comfortable and large. My favorite features of this truck are the back up camera because the backup lines move worth the steering wheel, navigation, and radio with the additional sub under the back seat.

My 2018 RAM 1500 why it should be better.
It didn't come with a navigation system on radio, it didn't offer flex fuel option, and price of vehicle to costly compared to other similar competitors. It performs well, roomy and the power is great, headlights could be brighter and should have blind spot sensors as part of costs.

My 2018 ram 1500 has yet to have any large mechanical issues or any other really. Since I purchased it in September of 2018 the only thing that I have had to do to it was change the oil and replace the shift knob and that I believe was due to the way I shift. Sometimes when I re fuel the pump keeps stopping I have not figured out the cause of it but sea foam has not seemed to help either, comfort is great there is plenty of room. The trim is great for the price even on the basic model.

The most gas efficient v8 out there.
I love my truck, I drove the truck and completely fell in love with it the first day. I have the v8 version. Unbelievable in the comfort and ride. Very smooth and little noise. The only complaint, but it is really not, is the mpg above 75 mph. It would only get about 20. If you can drive at 65, it gets more than the EPA 25 mpg. I was impressed. I have to change my driving habits from driving a car at 5 over the speed limit to the speed limit or less to get the great gas mileage I need.

Good truck for the outdoorsman.
The dodge ram has a comfortable ride even on long trips. The dodge ram has plenty of room for passengers and cargo. The dodge ram pulls my travel trailer nicely. The dodge ram back seat area does not heat and cool very efficiently the only vent is on the floor. The fuel fill spout on the ram pick up is at a bad angle so some fuel nozzles do not fit very well.

Ram 1500 Large and in Charge
The ram 1500 crew cab has no problem with seating 6 people comfortably. I have not had any issues with it with regular maintenance at 20000 miles. Most of the entertainment features I had to add on myself separately which was worth the cost. Comfortable truck has tire issues.
My ram is a very comfortable, everyday truck, but has poor gas mileage and is a little too large for my needs. I find it very stylish. The biggest issue I have with the truck is the slow leak I experience in multiple tires. I will most likely downgrade to a smaller truck next year.

My 3rd dodge purchase and I couldn't be happier!
This was my first truck purchase and I could not be happier. I purchased it new and was able to break it in the way I wanted to. It drives like a dream and gets good gas mileage for a truck. The only issue I had(not anymore) is the 'shifter' was a knob. Again, that was not a deal breaker! It comfortably seats 5 people and has a reasonable amount of storage space(under the back seat.) The back seat also flips up which gives me the option to use if for storage if it is raining. It has 6 seat belts. The front middle console flips up if you need this seat. The controls are placed for the driver and everything is within close reach. The touch screen is amazing! Pairing with my iPhone was easy. The overall appearance of the truck rates a 10 in my book!

I love the Longhorn trim and the color b
The only problem it has really is it kind of jerks when you take off and come to a stop. Not terrible. Drive shaft loses grease apparently. Other than that, it's great truck. It's the 3rd Dodge Ram truck we've purchased. The Longhorn trim is beautiful as well.

Ram 1500 is awesome and comfortable!
This is a great vehicle! It gets great mileage on highway driving and even better fuel economy with 93 versus midgrade fuel. The only issue in 3 years is not being able to change the Bluetooth notification volume. It is very comfortable and you don't feel like you are driving a truck.

Was a super fan until this truck...
15,000 and air suspension issue. This is being taken into the shop tomorrow for addressing. Unreliable Bluetooth connection - drops my phone all the time and it is super annoying. There were times in which the ac wouldn't turn on and only blew hot air... It has since 'self corrected'.

Beautiful truck, perfect for family.
In the two years I have had my truck, it has been very reliable. It is very spacious inside and great to travel with the family. The truck has been on many road trips with us and has not failed us. I have the hydro blue color and it is beautiful inside and out. I am very happy with my truck and all of the features it is loaded with. The backup camera and parking assist sensors work wonderful when parking in tight spots.

Overall positive truck review.
It has a very smooth ride and a very comfortable interior. The amenities that I value come standard such as a backup camera, automatic transmission, heated mirrors and cruise control. I did have to install a step to be able to get into the truck and I wish that the handles were placed higher up in the vehicle for easier access.

Dealer was very helpful getting the truck. A little less legroom in back.
I have a quad cab. The dealer was super. They went out of their to help us get the truck. The only problem I have is there is not enough leg room in the back seat for my teenagers. I love how it drives and it is very quiet. I have only had to do get 1 oil change so far. The dealer was very quick.

Dependability and performance.
Fantastic vehicle, though I do not always feel confident with how wide the vehicle is. It is rather dependable though, and has not shown any issues over long distances.

It's hard working and versatile in the amount of ways i can use it.
It's a pickup and I like trucks. It allows me to do heavy work. It allows to go off roading.

Good performance, fair comfort.
Overall, excellent performance, comfortable to drive with good visibility. Biggest problem so far being computer glitches, alternator overcharges battery. Passenger seat does not offer same adjustability as drivers and is consequently not as comfortable. Also does not start when parked on an incline with low fuel.

The ram 1500 big horn has many upgrades that are a convenience to the everyday.
I have not had any problems with his vehicle other than the cruise control sticks sometimes. It has a lot of room inside and adequate storage for tools and straps. The floor coolers come in handy for always having water or beverages in the vehicle. I wish my front seat was 3 seats instead of having a connecting consul.

Having a smaller motor does not mean it does not have same power as larger motor vehicles
Love the power and performance. The Eco mode on the engine makes for better fuel mileage for a truck. Only downfall is I should have gotten running boards and bedliner upon purchase.

Reviews on the 2018 ram 1500 Laramie.
So far the problems have been many recalls. The recalls are time consuming to take care of and leaves you with less confidence about the performance of the vehicle. . Trim packages available confusing, comfortable size for me. Reliability as for now truck is reliable except for issues with recalls.

The dark black truck inside and out.
The truck is beautiful, inside and out. It drives smoothly and quietly. There is plenty of room in the truck, and in the bed of the truck. The only issue I have recovered is the massive leaks, whether it be oil or water there is massive leaks beneath the truck.

The one most important thing about my car is the electronics
I love having a truck. Being up high and being able to haul things. I also love all of the extras that come on my vehicle. Heated seats and steering wheel, touch screen, backup camera and park assist.

Good utility truck, not bad gas mileage. Great value in the truck
It is a good truck. It runs quietly there. It has plenty of room in the bed. Heat and a/c work well. Not many issues with it.

Basic truck, excellent lifestyle.
I have a 2018 ram 1500 tradesman. It is a basic truck with a huge back seat. I got the truck because of the 4x4 and it would great, the truck will go anywhere in bad weather. Some features that I have for the truck is a bed liner and seat covers. I plan on putting a 4 inch lift kit on it with 33’s eventually when I can afford it. The 5.6l ecoboost is great when it comes to traveling to and from different states.

It is got real smooth get up n go for an 8 cyl hemi.
It provides a smooth ride for a pick-up. Decent fuel mileage. Spacious and nice looking. Great incentives when we bought.

The back up sensors as well as the parking sensors are pretty helpful.
I mostly love everything about the vehicle. The only dislike I have would be controlling the climate. To switch from the a/c to the heat takes a little bit of time. If driving it is taking more time with my eyes off the road than it should be.

Electrical annoyances associated with dodge ram 1500.
Exhaust is loud at times, particularly trekking uphill. Sensors are extremely sensitive, when I have outside or rainy. Heat and defrost are slightly complicated to coordinate. Do not like that the side view mirrors automatically angle downward when engaging in reverse.
accountCircle Mike S on November 19, 2020
It guzzles gas really bad.
Its slow. Chugs gasoline. But I like the comfort of the seats, and the screen is nice. The Uconnect system could use an upgrade.

Some issues that I have with my 2018 Ram 1500.
No manual on/off switch on the overhead dome light. I am 6'1" tall and weigh 240#. The front seats have no lower lumbar support which causes lower back pain on long drives. This puts you in a "hunch back" position. I had to purchase a lumbar support type pillow to alleviate this issue. I believe this is caused by the over extension of the head rest. The truck "slams" into park when you open the door while backing. Yeah, I do use the mirrors to back up but, I like to open the door to look back on occasion.
accountCircle Bryan M on November 17, 2020
I love how the truck comes with an air suspension.
Very reliable, love the vehicle 10/10 I would suggest getting this truck. I have racehorses and I travel 4-5 hours to races. And the truck pulls really well. The vehicle is spacey for long trips as well. I love how durable the front and back bumpers are the are like a cast iron covering and are really hard to mess up as well.
accountCircle Rebecca M on November 16, 2020
Buyer best be careful choosing this vehicle.
I have had several glitches with the entertainment system, and had to have the entire unit replaced under warranty. I do not like the mirror feature for GPS guidance, it sometimes is not available and turning off and on the vehicle does not correct the problem.

The 2018 dodge ram 1500 slt is a great truck for anyone to purchase. The 2018 dodge ram 1500 slt has great handling and gas mileage making it suitable for all types of people looking to buy a new vehicle. I feel very safe driving my son around in this truck. Why you should get a ram 1500 big horn.
I love my ram truck! I would highly recommend this truck to anyone. It is the big horn edition and it has a great look and is very spacious. It drives smooth and is great on gas mileage! It has not given me any problems so far so I would totally recommend this truck as your daily driver.

The interior is superior to other manufacturers top of the line trucks.
The FCA air bags sometimes when parked do not level the truck. The air suspension is super stiff for an on/off-road truck. Also I wish they offered the 6’ 1/2” bed. Instead of the 5’ 1/2” bed. Overall it is a great running truck no mechanical issues besides power seat on drivers side went out but covered under warranty.
accountCircle Veronica L on November 6, 2020
Rides great and handles very well. Not a gas guzzler like some trucks.
I love the way that my truck handles while driving it and the eco drive is great for longer drives. I could not believe that I get such great gas mileage on a truck. I have noticed that every now and then when I go to stop that my truck seems to shift hard into a different gear. I do wish that it came with a liner in the bed of the truck, I think that all truck should, but mine did not.
