2007 Toyota Camry Review: Expensive Car With Poor Reliability And A Short Life Expectancy

Alex Showalter
Feb 25, 2022

2007 is a bad year for the Camry, only lasting 200,000 miles with a lot of engine problems. At $2,976 – 6,689, it’s not worth the money.

Cabin is remarkably spacious, V6 engines offer great power, and safety scores are good.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Engine rebuilds are common, driving experience is boring, and interior components are cheap.

2007 Toyota Camry: Key Points

  • Reliability is poor, with a lot of engine problems. Avoid the 2007 through 2009 models and go with a 2006 for fewer problems.
  • Two engine options are available, including an efficient 4-cylinder and a powerful V6.
  • Fuel economy is great, at up to 25 MPG combined.
  • Safety scores are excellent, earning a perfect 5 star rating in government crash tests.
  • We don’t recommend the 2007 Toyota Camry. There are just too many expensive issues compared to other years for the sedan.

Overall I think it is very reliable.
I think it is super reliable and very comfy. I love how it drives and everything works perfectly. We've taken it mostly everywhere and have never had a problem with it. I would most definitely recommend it! It is such a pretty color and I feel like the back seats are very spacious.

That it has been a workhorse; it is super reliable.
I like my car because it's been super reliable, as Camrys are known to be. It's nothing special otherwise, but it's been a workhorse, and hasn't really been a problem for me. It's had a few annoying issues--sticky dashboard, broken turn signal--but nothing too bad.

Royal blue 2007 Toyota Camry.
My Toyota Camry has been a dream car it is extremely reliable, awesome on gas, and super cute and spacious inside. It is a perfect car for everyday use, but it can also be used to take road trips. Toyota has been a go-to car make for my entire family. They last forever.

I moved from east coast to Utah by driving my Camry. It is really reliable and comfort. It has large space for suitcases.

I love that it gets great gas mileage. It has a spacious trunk, which is great when traveling. It also has a very roomy backseat, which is nice when traveling with several people. It is very dependable.

I dislike nothing about my car. It has driven me around for 10 years, over 200,000 miles with few replacements of things here and there.
People need to know that Toyota builds quality cars

Very dependable car, never breaks down and I love it!
I love my car, I love Toyota, I've had my Camry for over 9 years, I purchased it used with only 40,000 miles at the time. This is my second car that was from Toyota, my first car I had for 11 years. Till this very day, I never had any major problems. However, I stay on top of regular maintenance, for example oil changes every 3000 miles, tune up and changing all tires when it's time. My car is very dependable and I never have to worry about my safety.
accountCircle Bonita H
Keep maintenance up. Changing the oil, flushing the radiator.
Engine went out in 2014, after replacing it have not had any major problems out of it since. Still runs good after ten years.

Very large on the inside and out.
I used to have a Corolla so the size of the Camry is a lot larger than I would normally like. If I have a vehicle that large I would prefer to be sitting up higher. I feel like I'm driving a "grandmother's" car. There's just nothing special about it.

First and last Toyota for me.
I bought it used a few years ago because I needed a good, reliable car. I have been very disappointed with this car though, it has needed many repairs in four years. New tires, new exhaust, a repair on one of the wheels, and it uses more oil than any other car I have owned. I really regret buying this Toyota and will not buy another.

Top Critics Reviews

  • Consumer Reports finds the Camry to be quiet with good handling and good owner satisfaction ratings.
  • Edmunds gives the Camry a 4.3 out of 5 and has a roomy cabin, but boring design choices.
  • Kelley Blue Book rates it at 4.5 out of 5 finding good fuel efficiency, but isn’t particularly exciting.

What Problems Does the 2007 Toyota Camry Have?

Problems with the Camry include oil consumption, melting dashboards, and brake system failures. The 2007 model is a terrible choice, and going with a 2010 or newer is worth the extra $2,500.

Engine problems are surprisingly widespread and involve excessive oil consumption at around 100,000 miles. Toyota engines generally use more oil, but this generation of Camry is worse. Owners have had to rebuild engines to solve the problem, costing over $2,500.

Dashboards melting are another common complaint from owners at around 95,000 miles. The plastic components melt and get sticky in hot environments. Changing the parts costs $500.

Brake problems are also common in cars with 100,000 miles. The anti-lock components fail as the car gets older, and the only solution is replacing them. A new system costs $2,500.

There are 11 recalls, more than other cars from the same year. They include air bags, floor mats, accelerator pedal, labels, window switch, and seat heater wiring. Most serious are issues with the accelerator pedal, which can cause a loss of control.

How Much is the 2007 Toyota Camry Worth?

Blue book prices range from $2,976 – 6,689, making the Camry more expensive than the Accord and Fusion. When new, prices were $18,470 to $28,020. Depreciation is slower than average, losing only about 8% of its current value per year.

How Long Will the 2007 Toyota Camry Last?

A well maintained 2007 Camry will last about 200,000 miles, but engine problems may shorten its life. The lifespan is 50,000 miles shorter than the Mazda6 or Accord. Repair Pal estimates regular maintenance costs to be similar to other sedans at $329 per year.

As the Camry ages and reaches over 100,000 miles, there are services owners should prepare to address. This includes blower motors for $250, radiator fans costing $850, and valve cover gaskets which cost $175.

accountCircle Lauren M

Yes. It has had several issues over the years but nothing too terrible. Current problem is it leaks or burns oil and needs oil frequently.

accountCircle Laurel H

It does need a new condenser for the a/c to work properly. Otherwise it is running very well and is very economical and reliable,

accountCircle Crystal G

The only problem that I have had with it is the coils burn out quicker than other vehicles and when it comes time to change the pump, it is a lot of work and can be expensive. But overall the XLE is a really great reliable car.

accountCircle Sarah N

It is extremely reliable. I have had this vehicle for over 10 years and I have not had any problems.

accountCircle Melissa M

It is very reliable. We had a small issue with the seat adjuster getting stuck. Also a rat got in the engine, which it seems is not uncommon.

accountCircle Heidi K

No problems that I have not created myself. The problems that I did create were easily fixed. But not at the dealership.

accountCircle Bobbiejo K

I have not had any problems. So far I have not had any issues. I recommend Toyota to anyone looking to buy one.

accountCircle Candace S

Yes, it is very reliable. Ever since I have had the car in 2007, I have had zero issues except for a few dead batteries and the normal tire change and other routine maintenance.

  • A more powerful 3.5L V6 is available and has 268 horsepower.

What Color Options are Available?

How Big is the Camry?

The 2007 Toyota Camry is a midsize sedan similar to rivals including the Altima and Sonata. Passenger room is excellent throughout the cabin, and the XLE model’s reclining rear seats are fantastic.

How Does the 2007 Toyota Camry Compare to Other Cars?

One of the closest competitors is the more affordable Honda Accord. Where the Accord stands out is with fewer engine issues, but the Camry has more technology available. The competition is usually close, but for the 2007 model the Accord is the winner.

Another rival is the Nissan Altima, which also has a lower starting price. The Altima has a much sportier driving experience, but the Camry is more comfortable. For the 2007 model year, the Altima and Camry both have mechanical issues.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Toyota Camry a Good Car?

No, we do not recommend the Camry, based on 696 verified owner reviews, with a lot of expensive engine and brake system problems reported.

Overall, 2007 is a model year buyers should avoid with an abundance of engine complaints and a boring driving experience. Buying a 2006 or 2010 model is a better choice depending on your budget.

Purchase this car new in September 2006, So far only the only issue was with the oil consumption recall, the dealership fixed the issue. She is still running like a champ with over 273,000 miles. Although the car is 16 years old, we still take it to the dealership when it’s time for service.

Toyota's can be both great and have its flaws
It performs really well. The brakes for some reason seem to keep making weird noises and so does the air conditioning when set at a higher setting. It is a really comfortable car but a pain to clean if you get something that stains on the seats. The engine has only failed once in all my years of having it so I guess you can say that it's very reliable

I've had this vehicle for 4 years now and have had no major problems other than regular maintenance. The performance has not decreased over time and is the most reliable of cars that I've owned. Features are pretty basic, aux cord is a plus, and as far as comfort it's pretty good.

Something that gets the job done and blends in with modern looks, this is it.
My 2007 Camry is overall in good shape for the year it's from, I haven't had so many issues other than it not starting up properly or at all but it's nothing I haven't been able to fix. I've had good and bad experiences but I'm not an expert in cars, but this is by far the best car I've owned out of 3, and it's lasted 4 years without a problem. It's not very modern but it does what it should do. My A/C broke down once the past year, and was a quick replacement but nothing else by far. It runs smoothly and quietly

The Camry will run forever if you take care of it. Regular maintenance is all you need in order to get over 300 thousand miles on it. After 11 years and 280 thousand, my Camry is running strong. My only issue is that it is starting to go through oil a little faster than it had been in the past.

accountCircle Abigail E on March 22, 2021
To have 180,000 miles on it, this car is still a very impressive drive and ride.
Driving the Camry has been a wonderful experience overall. It is very reliable and sturdy. It also has the mechanical functionality of a new car and gets great gas mileage. The drive is smooth and pleasurable. The only problem I've had with the Camry is on the body work of the car on the exterior. I've noticed this on other cars as well and the front and back bumpers seem to come unclipped fairly easily. If you've been in any type of collision, the frame/bumper repair work doesn't hold up even with the best repair job.
accountCircle Sara H on March 22, 2021

Love this car. I always buy Toyota and this is my second Camry. This vehicle will last forever and I will enjoy driving it till it goes to car heaven. We used our Camry to drive through multiple states after our wedding. We were never uncomfortable and it was a 10 day trip through deserts and mountains. I was also in a bad accident a few years ago and my car was hit on the passenger side. I had no injuries at all even though the entire right side of my car was smashed and had to be replaced. I cannot say enough good things about Toyota’s in general, and the Camry is my favorite.
accountCircle Julie B on March 19, 2021
One interesting thing about my car is that it is almost 12 years old and only has about 42,000 miles on it. I don't drive a lot because I live close to work and stores. It's a dependable car that right now doesn't give any trouble. I hope to have it for many more years to come.
I have some dings on the sides and rear from carts in the parking lot or people opening their car doors and denting my car's exterior. I have only had to have work done to replace parts such as brakes, oil, cabin filter. So far, no major issues have occurred.

Sport Edition Handling is Great
I rated my car a 4 out of 5 and the only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because it doesn't have the latest technology, which you find in newer cars. The technology I'm missing is a back up camera and being able to plug my phone into the car to be able to play Pandora, Audible, Podcasts, etc. Not having these options in the car are just due to the age of the car (currently 12 years old) and really have nothing to do with the car itself. I really like everything else about my car such as the reliability and the easy access to the controls. I especially like the Sport Edition version of the car and love the handling.

New to the Toyota Camry family, 100% sold!
I absolutely love my Camry. This is actually the first Toyota vehicle that I have ever owned and I can say with complete confidence that I am now a Toyota Customer for life. The Camry is fuel efficient yet has a lot of pep! It is sleek, smooth & stylish all while allowing plenty of leg and head room! The only problem I have had so far with the vehicle is that the dashboard is melting which has made it tacky to the touch and creates a hazardous glare on the windshield. After some research, it appears that the 2007 models have had this issue with the dash yet Toyota has not yet issued a safety recall. At this point, they have offered a limited warranty extension to replace the dash, however I purchased the vehicle used after this warranty extension had expired. I currently have a dashboard cover on and it is a mediocre solution to this issue. Hopefully the extended warranty will be offered again or a safety recall will be issued due to the glare that the issue causes.

Affordability, low maintenance to upkeep it, very reliable car brand
Bought it certified pre-owned from a dealership after my first ever car accident. Has been working well, as a car should. Have had to get an oil change twice so far, with synthetic oil blends. Does eat up some gas if all you mostly do is drive on highways. Among city streets to and from school or work a full tank would last me almost 2 weeks. Is an older car, so it doesn't have nav features or Bluetooth capabilities, but it has an aux and that's basically all I need. Toyota overall is a reliable car manufacturer, I had owned a hand me down Toyota Corolla from my Mom before my Camry and that also did not give me any issues, so I can pretty much trust the way Toyota's are made and their reliability.

Review of the 2007 Toyota Camry se.
When I first got the Camry, it was brand new off the lot. I never had any big issues with car. Just normal wear and tear. The air conditioning works amazingly, the stitching on the seats themselves is beautifully crafted. The speakers that come with the car work magnificently, the car is 11 years old and everything works just like it did the day we purchased this car. The only thing I did have a problem with was the original paint job. After two years the roof and the top of the trunk began to become discolored and looked very ugly. I've gotten two full body paint jobs for the car since purchased.

I have had no major problems with my Camry since I purchased it. I have made sure to maintain it according to the manufacturer's recommendations. I plan to have it for several more years. It rides very comfortable on long trips and has airbags and antilock brakes, which are great safety features that I like.

If you want a car that safe, easy to drive, and will keep going for years, get a Camry. If you're looking for fun and excitement, look elsewhere.
My Camry is easy and comfortable to drive. Long road trips have never been a problem and I've been able to sit through west-coast road trips, constant trips to and from Vegas, and A LOT of traffic in the time I've had it. It's extremely easy to maintain and very easy to work on. I don't feel obligated to take it to a mechanic to do simple repairs as I can easily do them on my own or with assistance from my boyfriend. The only complaint I have is that it's boring. It's not fun to drive, it's not exciting, and it has no charm.

One Dependable Luxury Vehicle
My 2007 Toyota Camry is one of the most dependable vehicles I have ever owned. I work as a certified nursing assistant for Agape Hospice and travel a lot during the day. The gas mileage I get is great. I had an oil consumption recall on my car about two years ago, but the Toyota dealer replaced the part that needed to be replaced and I still have not had any problems. I will admit that I do take my car for routine oil changes when needed. I have not had any major problems with my Camry. I have only replaced things that are usually expected with normal wear and tear on a vehicle. I have had my tires changed, the windshield wipers changed, and the headlight bulbs changed. Other than that, I have not had to replace anything major. My car has over 200,000 miles on it, but it still runs great. I think my car is a very comfortable car to drive. There is just the right about of room in it for my children and myself. I must say that the trunk had plenty of space to put things when needed to go on vacation, as well. Nobody can go wrong when choosing to purchase a Toyota Camry.

The car itself is great and extremely reliable. We have had some issues with it running out of oil despite a lack of a leak but we bought it heavily used so that is a big part of why. Ours is missing a sunshade mirror and we have found that where the sunshades connect sometimes leak with heavy rain. Despite this it is extremely reliable to drive and very fuel efficient for the year we got it.

Gas Guzzling Senior Camry
Age isn't aging well even though it has been maintained well. Wish it had bluetooth capabilities. Car isn't very gas efficient either.

It's got over 248000 miles on it and still get good gas mileage. The paint job is failing on it.
The seats are comfortable. It has good passing power. No complaints except for the multiple recalls.

2007 Toyota Camry le review.
My Camry is 12 years old and drives great. Never has it left me stranded. It has been through two of us and our granddaughter wants it now. Very reliable, cost efficient. All electric, leather seats, moonroof, heated front row seats. Back seats recline. Has 183000 miles on it.

I like how my car is fast.
I like how my vehicle contains different features. The build is great. I really like the color. The car is a little too small unfortunately.

I like my vehicle. I brought this vehicle. I care for this vehicle. I wish it was newer, but I am happy to have it.

Efficient, comfortable and reliable.
Toyota hybrid is a great car, 35 mph consuming. Very comfortable to drive, leather salon. The battery might break down.
