Editor's Overview

It's not easy to retain the title of bestselling car in America but the 2012 Toyota Camry mid-size sedan is an odds-on favorite to accomplish the feat. Its solid reputation for reliability and comfort is enhanced in the new-for-2012 version that offers 4- and 6-cylinder power or a hybrid powertrain.

Toyota Camry, reliable and no maintenance issues

I bought my 2012 Camry certified pre-owned in 2014. It was still under manufacturer warranty, which was the best feature it came with. The battery died within 24 hours of driving it off the lot, but Toyota replaces it at no cost to us. This car has had absolutely no issues. Besides basic maintenance and oil changes, it hasn't had a single issue in the past 4 years of owning it. In that time we have put just under 100,000 miles on the vehicle. My only complaint is shortly after getting it the clear sheen peeled in a few places on the exterior. I'm not sure what the coating is, but it makes the finish look a little splotchy. Besides that, I love this car!

My car is great on gas and always comfortable inside.

My 2012 Toyota Camry is a great car in many aspects. Has a very spacious interior and fit for comfort for medium sized families. The interior has great accessories for travel, has cup holders on each door and also two in the front console of the car and two in the middle seat in the back seat of the car which can also be used as an armrest. Also accommodating the travel needs the Toyota Camry is great on gas and rides smooth and efficient when traveling. I also love the spacious trunk which also has a net barrier on the inside. Overall it is a great car for a small or medium family who likes to travel or just liked to ride in style and comfort.

The Camry is a all around great vehicle.

The car is very reliable and comfortable to drive. Most issues are cosmetic. The engine is difficult to maintain, as locating such items as a dipstick is nearly impossible, making reliability important. The plastic body parts are subject to becoming brittle. The upholstery stains and tears easier than i'd like. Carpets are durable and remain fresh looking even after many years. The car handles very well, stops quickly without losing traction, and has the power to keep up with busy southern California traffic. It even does well in the famous traffic jams, and long drives through the mountain passes. All in all, an excellent vehicle.

Safety Recalls (1)

chevronDown icon
Air Bags , Electrical System , Equipment Oct 17, 2013
Report Receipt Date:
Oct 17, 2013
NHTSA Campaign:
13V442000
Summary:
Toyota is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Avalon, Avalon HV, Venza, Camry, and Camry HV vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the drain hose for the air conditioning condenser may become clogged causing water to accumulate at the bottom of the air conditioning condenser unit housing. The accumulated water may then leak through a seam in the housing onto the air bag control module potentially resulting in a short circuit of the module.
Consequence:
A short circuit may cause the air bags to become disabled or inadvertently deploy. An inadvertent airbag deployment can increase the risk of injury or the possibility of a crash. An inoperative airbag can increase the risk of injury in a severe crash. The power steering assist could also become inoperable resulting in increased steering effort and can increase the risk of a crash at low speeds.
Remedy:
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will seal the air conditioning condenser unit housing and install a protective cover on the airbag control module, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
