Alex Showalter
Jan 17, 2022

The 2012 Toyota Corolla is a compact car with a price range of $9,210 to $13,574. Although pricing is higher than some rivals, the lower ownership costs and a dependable problem-free engine make the Corolla stand out as a winner.

likeFilled The Good
Long-term reliability ratings are class-leading, the cabin is very comfortable with plenty of room for adults, and safety scores are good for a compact car.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Performance is mediocre compared to other compact cars, the steering feels loose, and there’s less standard technology than other cars from the same year.

2012 Toyota Corolla: Quick Overview

  • New features for the 2102 model year include new wheels, and upgraded infotainment systems on the LE and SE models.
  • Reliability ratings are great according to J.D. Power, with a similar number of complaints to the outgoing 2011 model.
  • One engine is available, and is a small 4-cylinder with less power than some competitors.
  • Fuel economy is good, tying for 8th place out of 36 compact cars with a combined rating of up to 29 miles per gallon.
  • Safety scores are above average with 4 out of 5 stars in government crash tests and a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
  • The 2012 Toyota Corolla ranks 18th out of 36 compact cars based on owner reviews. Although the Corolla falls in the middle of the class, long-lasting engines and a comfortable ride earn our recommendation.

Great gas mileage; about 11 gallons for a full tank.
I like that it is a good size and the features are not complicated. I dislike that there is no camera when I am reversing.

I love the Bluetooth radio. Makes making talking while driving safer.
Honestly in the almost 4 years I have owned this car I haven't really had to do anything other than routine maintenance. This car is really dependable and is all around a great car. It is small inside. Hard to fit car seats and still have leg room. Gas mileage is excellent. The car has a 13 gallon tank and I haven't ever spent more than $30 to fill up with gas prices in Missouri.

Toyota is best car for you should buy.
Handsome, economical. Low maintenance. Affordable. Good gas mileage. Would recommend to others. Smooth ride. Attractive appearance. Needs better sound system. I cannot think of much else to say, except that I really love my car. My next vehicle will likely be a newer corolla model.

Most Dependable Car Ever!
My car is very dependable. I get great gas mileage and it is easy to park in small parking spots. I've had no problems with this car and this is my 3rd Toyota. I love the fact that I've only had to maintain tires, oil, etc. I have spent less than $500 on maintenance.

Love this car! Great car for a small family.
Great vehicle! Runs good. Have had no problems with it so far. Had it for about three years. Bought it used but was in great shape. It a four door white car. Drives really smooth. Not bumpy at all. Would buy another one if we ever needed too. Would recommend this car.

Nice Ride, reliable car that will last you with regular maintenance.
My car is very reliable, comfortable, has good visibility, handles well. The radio and all controls are within reach along with two cup holders and nice little armrest with built in compartment for stuff. There are enough vents for the heating and AC for front and back comfort.
accountCircle Jerry P
Good gas mileage and dependable!
Zero issues. Do routine maintenance, and the car goes down the road. I bought the car used, and I have had to replace the tires and wiper blades. I run Amsoil products in the vehicle. I only have to change the oil every 25,000 miles. The car gets 35 to 40 mpg depending on how hard I drive it.

When you drove a Toyota, you have a car for life
Reliable and wonderful car. Very minimal problems. Sturdy, smooth ride. Not noisy on the road. I have barely had to bring it in to get maintenance work. Toyota's last forever and are dependable. Toyota's can take you from a first time driver of 16 to a family of four without a hitch.

I like that it is very fuel efficient. I don't feel safe driving my car, it is just a basic car, not enough room.
Buy a bigger car, not a Corolla. It only saves you on gas.

Need a new car because old car is not great.
The car needs new wheels. The ac needs to be fix. The car is damage up front and need to be repaired. The morrow at the driver side sometimes when we roll it down and roll it back up, it just roll back down. We had to keep rolling the window back up until it is roll all the way back up.

Just don't buy this super cheap vehicle.
I hate the major blind-spot. I hate the color. I hate the cheap fabric seats. I hate the sound of the horn. I hate absolutely everything possible about this dumb vehicle.

It is a very basic car, it does not have any special features.
I have had a lot of problems with the engine. This car really has no special features. It is a very basic car that gets me where I need to go but I wouldn't want to travel long distances in it. It performs ok, it is definitely nothing special and I definitely wouldn't recommend it if you have to travel long distances.

Can be very easy to throw out the clutch. People should also know that it can also reach a high speed.
I love this car a ton. It is very comfy. The sun roof is really nice to have and driving the car is comfortable. I don't like my car as much because it is a stick shift and it scares me. Otherwise the car works super well and good for a teenager to have or adult.

My Old 2019 Toyota Corolla
Toyota's models consistently seem five years behind the standard curve. The features inside are outdated and generally unappealing.
accountCircle Avery P
Reliable but not luxury at all.
Not coming stock with cruise controls seems very cheap in my opinion since it is a 2012 model and I feel like cruise control should be a standard feature. The car rides well but it kind of loud inside and is not particularly made for large people. The car is not horrible but not good.

Very reliable, small vehicle. Not safe in the winter. I haven't had any problems thus far and I just hit 100,000 miles. Comfortable if you are used to small cars

accountCircle Heather T

It is very reliable. I have had no issues with the vehicle that could not be resolved regular maintenance.

accountCircle Sarah C

Yes this model is reliable. I do have problems now since it is been 7 years and being that this was my first car I got back when I was 18, I didn't take good care of it. I have hit about 5 deer throughout my time with this car, I have crashed into a tree, got tangled in a fence, and had a few fender benders. After all of that my car is still running.

accountCircle Brenda J

Yes, no problems and always maintained well with no issues. Runs great and reliable to go anywhere. I trust this car for long distance trips.

accountCircle Miguel A

Yes it is very realizable and there's is no problem yet I am hoping I can take it pass 200,000 miles.

accountCircle Kee F

It is a very reliable car. Rarely has issues. They are efficient gas mileage wise as well. This car currently has no issues. It has normal oil checkups and things as so.

accountCircle Sarah P

The Toyota Corolla is very reliable. I have never had any issues with my car. Everyone I know who has a Corolla has nothing but good things to say about it.

accountCircle Cathy N

I have not encountered an issues with it so far, but I make sure that the maintenance is kept up in a timely manner. The only thing that is a bit aggravating is the tire pressure sensor on the rim. If you ever have to replace the rim and do not get a new one from the dealership, which charges an arm and a leg, the sensor light will appear on the dashboard and never go away until you go to the dealership and pay an arm and a leg to get it taken off.

accountCircle Tom T

I believe it is very reliable. It does not have any problems to my knowledge. It is updated constantly on its maintenance.

What Technology & Safety Features Are Included?

I have loved this car since day one.
I’m a serious driver but committed to maintaining my vehicle and my Toyota has never let me down. From last minute long distance road trips, to long 10-12 hour days of driving for work and season. I often say in the winters she’s born with the heart and soul of a Jeep but came in a pretty red dress. Literally, never gets stuck, never complains and reasonably priced to maintain. Absolutely worth every Penny spent and worthy of every memory made.

Paint is pealing off really bad
When I bought it, it had a tiny spot of paint missing. I got a retouching kit but before the weather warmed enough to use it, the paint started pealing more. After a year, the entire trunk paint is missing, the hood has 3 large spots with no paint, the reast of the body has spots of paint missing too.

Comfortable and easy everyday car.
It is very reliable, hardly any issues. It is roomy enough for my day to day life with two kids. If I traveled a lot with them I may want something bigger, but I do not drive far and I find it comfortable. The trunk is spacious enough for a small car, I can put the stroller and groceries in there and then some.

It is a Toyota - reliable, dependable, runs forever.
It is reliable; maintenance costs are low; fuel efficiency is good; features of trim level meet our needs; performance is adequate and dependable both in town and on road trips; easy to drive in bad weather; dependable start in cold conditions; surprisingly spacious trunk!

Best car ever- no problems, low maintenance.
Driven my car for years now without an issue. Regular maintenance has kept everything in perfect working order. Sometimes my Bluetooth audio disconnects but that is honestly the only issue I have ever had with this car. No engine troubles, interior is durable despite constant use and several pets- spectacular gas mileage to boot.

I would recommend this car as it is pretty good.
It is a comfortable car and can hold five people snugly. The best feature has to be the ability to hook up your phone via Bluetooth for listening to music during a drive. The biggest problem I have had only includes replacing old parts, as it is a pretty well functional car.

32 miles per gallon of good car.
One problem this car has is the engine reliability. I only have 70,000 miles on it, but it still does not run particularly well—especially up hills. Also, the breaks are going out pretty easily. Other than that, I love the gas mileage, the room in the car, and the tires were easy to find at Costco. The radio works well, too, with Bluetooth.
accountCircle Peggy W on June 7, 2021
Gas mileage is great. Can get from Houston to Austin on a half a tank of gas.
The back seats are uncomfortable, especially for long distance trips. On the other hand it gets great mileage. The car has a simple design and everything is really easy to use except the car Bluetooth.A huge headache to connect! The car runs smooth and in all is a good rel.

It is absolutely incredible on gas. Very much so family efficient. Purr and does not bark. Very easy maintenance and I have been pleased ever since I got it. Would recommend 10/10. Also, I have heard no complaints from owners who've had this car. Keeps me behind the wheel.

I absolutely love my 2012 Toyota corolla. Its fuel-efficient and rarely ever has any problems, making it great for a college student like myself. I have had it for 4 years and have yet to have any problems with it. As good as it is, though, it is very jolty compared to other cars when applying pressure to the gas or breaks.

This might sound weird but your car loves you as long as you take care of it so take care of it make sure you get the oil changed and every other necessity done on it thank you unless you don't care in which case you have a car so get your brakes done get new tires when needed and that oil change to keep the car running.

Toyota corolla 2012 is a good car for basic features.
I enjoy the gas mileage. I am not happy with how often the brakes have needed to be fixed. The internal features seem to be made cheaply. I wish the windows were tinted. I have had to replace the battery twice in my years of owning it. I wish the seats were more stain protectant.
accountCircle Claire C on May 18, 2021
Reliable and great gas mileage.
I have had no problems with my Toyota corolla since purchasing it, making it an extremely reliable car. I drive in winter months in a lot of snow and the corolla handles the snow and ice very well and does not slip often. I also get great gas mileage on my car so I find myself going to the gas station less and spending less money on gas overall. The car is comfortable and has Bluetooth for audio, making it comfy and fun to drive. I appreciate the trunk storage and it is very spacious when getting groceries or camping. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants a car that is both comfortable and reliable.
accountCircle Ch R on May 14, 2021
Great car, good value, rides low enough to get damaged.
Great, reliable car. Performs generally well, but pickup is slow sometimes. Comfy ride. Rides low. Front bumper side pieces snag on most driveways going in and out unless one drives turtle slow and pulls in at the right angle (difficult to do if cars are coming on a busy street), which leaves the bumper pieces hanging on halfway/partially askew and loosens that bottom plastic pop-in grill. When I first pulled into my driveway at a normal pull-in speed, I nearly took off part of my bumper as the side pieces ripped off halfway and the grill was hanging loose. One time I hit dip in the dark going the speed limit and had to pull over to pick up the grill piece from the street. Eventually got a new front end and only park on the street now as residential curbs and some businesses eat my bumper.

A good car that works and runs pretty well!
It gets me from point a to b. Occasionally, it will give me problems starting up in the winter, and is a little bit too low to the ground for me. When driving it, you can feel every inch of the road you go over. Whether it is going over a drawbridge or minor bumps in the road.

It is a nice decent car. Not too small or big. After 6 years of owning it is just replacing the battery and brakes. I have had no engine problems. Fill up a tank about 40-50 dollars. Has a sunroof. Has a display screen. USB and aux available. Great to have my car still running after 8 years.

A beautiful and wonderful car!
For reference, I bought my car used. I absolutely love my car. She's my baby. I really do not have any problems with it other than the basic ones you get overtime for every car, like replacing tires, brakes, things like that. It is pretty decent on gas if you are not going out super often. It is super comfortable and cozy on the inside. It drives smooth and speeds up pretty good. The only issue is that the rubber on the trunk is not sticking in place, but that might be from the people who had the car before me. Overall: never had problems with it and I love it so much!

Gets the job done if you are looking to save some gas money.
My little Toyota corolla is great on gas. However, the gas tank is not the biggest compared to other Toyotas. My battery does seem to corrode fairly easily. It is just something I have to keep an eye on but it is very manageable. Also, the exterior of the car is not very durable, it scratches, dents and chips very easily. I do wish it had more space though. My vehicle can technically seat 5 people including the driver. However, 4 adults is kind of pushing it. Especially if you are average to tall in height, there is minimal leg room. My boyfriend who is 6 ft usually leans and slides the seat further back because if not his head will be basically touching the roof of the interior of the car. All in all, it has a fairly smooth ride, it is easy to maintain, has good gas mileage, and its compact (pros and cons).

Corolla: a dependable and affordable car.
Performance is fine since it is a Toyota, it is just a little small and not too much power but that is to be expected of a compact car, it is very fuel efficient though and you get around 300 miles to one tank of gas, the car has a pretty low profile as well and may be a little hard to put children into a car seat in the back.

Commuter car, good for city use.
It is a great car for commuting, the gas mileage is pretty good and it drives pretty well. There have been some recalls, one with the passenger airbag, however and I have had multiple issues with the battery. Other than that, it is a good car for daily use.

The perfect car for a new or inexperienced driver.
There are not many issues with the car. It is the perfect size for a new driver like myself and is very safe. It is also very affordable and efficient, meaning it gets the job done. This is the perfect car for a new or inexperienced driver. It could use some work for the comfort with the seats. I had to buy seat covers to make it more comfortable.

Stylish and comfort. Smooth and never witnessed any other problem.
Toyota Corolla sedan was the best model then when my wife got it, considering the space, legroom and style. Over the years, there was problem with the heating considering we live in. Cold region and in this 6 years never suffered any other problem then this.

The price was reasonable, as well as the maintenance/upkeep.
I like that I don't have to spend a lot on gas to fill the tank, and I like the overall look of my car. I like that it's a sedan - it's roomy.
