2017 Toyota Corolla Review: Good Year For The Expensive But Dependable Sedan

Alex Showalter
Mar 4, 2022

The 2017 Corolla lasts over 300,000 miles with only minor engine software complaints. At $17,648 – 19,789, it’s pricey for a compact car, but worth the money.

Passenger room is great, advanced safety technology is standard and ownership costs are low.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Performance is weak, interior materials are cheaper than rivals and it’s just boring to drive.

2017 Toyota Corolla: Key Points

  • Reliability ratings are great for 2017, with no major problems. The 20142015 models have more engine and interior issues, any models newer than 2011 are all good choices.
  • Two weak 4-cylinder engine options: a low-powered base engine, and the Eco version that is more efficient and powerful.
  • Fuel economy is excellent at up to 34 MPG combined.
  • Safety ratings are outstanding, earning a perfect 5-star rating in government crash tests and a Top Safety Pick+ Award.
  • The Corolla is a good car. We have received a lot of positive reviews from owners mentioning great fuel economy, advanced safety features, and affordable ownership costs.

Very cool and dependable car for all the family.
The car runs well, has giving me no mechanical problems. It has all the new things you want in cars, camera when you go on reverse, electric locks, windows, and drivers seat. Very good sound system and radio and the Toyota warranty. It has good suspension, does not consume a lot of fuel on highway and moderate on short drives.

Best car in the entire world must get one.
I love my car. It gets me where I need to go. The air gets cold really quick, and the heat gets hot really quick as well.

Because good quality, I would recommend this.
It is a very safety, clean and trustworthy. When I bought the is also my favorite. He says he always enjoys driving. It, I was exciting. I ride this car with my husband. You can get a cheaper price if you buy this car second hand. It can be used for a long time and is not too expensive.

The reliable 2017 Toyota corolla.
Overall I have never had any problems with my vehicle. I just have to do maintenance on it regularly. It is reliable and the seats are comfortable. I have basic features, but it's better to have it this way so I do not have to replace anything. The features are wonderful, I have no complaints.

2017 Toyota corolla 'snoball'.
I love the car. Very good on gas which is great because I drive everywhere. It beeps at you when you are driving outside the lines. The seats are comfortable, car is roomy. When in cruise control the car starts to break when it notices a car in front of you.

This car is fast and fab and attractive.
I love my Toyota Corolla. Buying this car was the best decision I have ever made. It is the perfect size, good on gas the interior is very appealing. It’ll still have value when I am done paying it off. My husband and I plan to stick with Toyota vehicles for the long run.

Easy and comfortable car to drive as well as very economical.
My vehicle is very reliable it is very easy to drive. It is extremely easy to park. It has 4 doors so it is easy for passengers to get in and out off. And the gas mileage is awesome. There is also plenty of legroom in the back seat area, I have not any negative issues with this car so far.

Was a LOYAL TOYOTA owner
Had corollas, Camry, Matrix, and never had a problem like with this MODEL and YEAR, just name it, noise in front tires and steering wheel, transmisión not shifting ( before recall) USB on radio NEVER WORKED inside gas compartment there is a rubber seal BROKEN due to off centered gas tank neck that (PENSKE of Downey) wants me to pay $500.00 Before never had a problem with them but now will think TWICE to buy another TOYOTA most of all with that UNPROFESSIONAL TECH SUPPORT and mechanics at dealers Took me 6 plus month and too many trips and time to take care of problems finally I gave up and hire my own MECHANIC and pay for repairs to solve problems

Toyota Corolla car review.
This vehicle is very small, uncomfortable. Drives fairly well and the gas mileage is good but that is about it. Also the payment is under 300 which is nice but after the lease is up we are definitely trading it in. Toyota’s in general are awesome so probably a RAV4 or 4Runner.

It's not worth buying or leasing. It is very basic, even at the higher models.
I thought I'd be getting a good deal on a solid car, but I feel like I'm driving a cheap roller skate around. It doesn't accelerate very fast, it's small, and it's plastic feeling

Nothing but problems
Im never buying another toyota again. The car gets way less gas mileage that 400 a tank.more like 300 a tank on the highway. Makes noises. Its been recalled ALREADY. Toyota is horrible.car only has 28k miles on it.

Highlights an interesting messages.
My car is brand new it has not failed at the moment, I do maintenance all the time, and I keep my car up to date so that I do not present any fault, grateful and holy with the brand for such a good car I made a very good choice for this brand, I was very comfortable with my car.

Many bells and whistles for the price.
The mileage was high when we bought it..Almost 60,000. We just drive it around town. It has many special features for an older car. It even tells you when you are driving outside the white lines. The radio is good. And it has a CD player. The console is very high tech. The gears are a little weird. There is a swerve-like maneuver when you change gears. It seats 5 comfortably. It was recalled shortly after we bought it for a glitch in the seat belt which they fixed at no expense to us. The trunk is large. It has a spare and a jack. It has 4 doors and the key opens and locks the doors. It is off-white, a color they call eggshell.

What Problems Does the 2017 Toyota Corolla Have?

Problems are relatively minor for 2017 and include the engine software, brakes wearing out fast, and some door lock issues. The number of problems remain quite low on Corollas from 2016 through 2021.

Over revving engines is the most common complaint from owners at about 6,000 miles. A common cause is a vacuum leak at the intake manifold. A new gasket costs under $100 to install.

Premature brake pad wear is another issue on cars happening around 30,000 miles. There are aftermarket pads which last longer, and cost about $350 to install. Some owners have also replaced brake boosters costing over $500.

Door lock problems are relatively rare at around 60,000 miles. The actuators and computer have some issues that are not widespread. In some cases resetting the locks fixes the problem, and a new key fob battery can also solve some issues.

The Corolla has 3 recalls, average for a compact car.  Recalls include spare tire air pressure, load labels, and airbags. None of the recalls are very serious, and once the airbags have been replaced for free they are no longer a concern.

How Long Will the 2017 Toyota Corolla Last?

A properly maintained Corolla can last over 300,000 miles and is one of the longest lasting compact cars. Outlasting top competitors including the Sentra or Jetta by over 100,000 miles. Repair Pal estimates annual ownership costs to be average at $421 per year.

As a Corolla reaches 150,000 miles, items owners should prepare to replace include fuel pumps for $500, serpentine belts costing $80, and oil pressure sensors which cost $120.

accountCircle Mark R

The only problem that I am currently having is with the tpms. That might actually be because there is an air leak in one of my tires.

accountCircle Tania S

As far as I know, there is not any problems with the vehicle. Some people may have problems but I haven't had any concerns yet.

accountCircle Anat L

It is relatively new, and we keep it in good condition, so I trust the car. Maintenance is important, since I have to drive the car to work, and I would hate to get stuck.

accountCircle Jenny H

I have had my car for 2 1/2 years and it is very reliable. I have not had any problems. I have taken several road trips and it runs great.

accountCircle Keri B

Extremely reliable. I have had the car for 3 years and I have not had any issues to date. Even in the winter when my car sits outside in negative temperatures it always starts right up.

accountCircle Michael W

Yes. No problems. There is electronic maintenance schedule built in to the vehicle that allows you to monitor all engine functions.

accountCircle JACKIE B

The 2017 Toyota corolla le is quite reliable. The only problem area for me has been the console/radio - it has required replacement twice and additional updates.

accountCircle Jared J

It is a very reliable vehicle that I can count on and depend on. I trust this vehicle completely to get me where I am going and back.

How Much is the 2017 Toyota Corolla Worth?

  • A retuned, more efficient 1.8L 4-cylinder in the Eco model is only slightly stronger at 140 horsepower.

What Color Options are Available?

How Big is the Corolla?

The 2017 Toyota Corolla is a compact car, similar in size to the Forte, and Elantra. Passenger room is above average in the back seats, but some taller adults may feel cramped.

Cargo space is similar to rivals, with 13 cubic feet of room in the trunk, fitting 3 to 4 suitcases.

Centered wide dash shot

How Does the 2017 Toyota Corolla Compare to Other SUVs?

The highest-rated compact car from 2017 is the Volkswagen CC, which is in the same price range. Where the CC stands out is with an upscale interior, but the Corolla is more reliable. Long term, we recommend the Corolla since they are more affordable to own.

Another close competitor is the more expensive Honda Civic. The Civic stands out as being a more fun car to drive, but there are more safety features found on the Corolla. Overall, both are very similar, but if you want a longer lasting car go with a Corolla.

The 2017 Toyota corolla and my experience.
I really like the car but my only problem I have with it is that it does have a lot of blind spots. The front window can kind of be hard to see out of on the sides, but I have been driving this car for years and I have never had any problems. The car itself is very stylish and comfortable. It can fit a lot in the trunk as well as the back seat. I have used the car to drive back and forth from college and I was able to fit everything in the car and I only had to do one trip. You can fit 5 people in the car including the driver. The car also as aux and charger adapters for your phone and you can easy call people using the car and you can also easily listen to music as well. The last thing to mention is how incredible the gas mileage on this car is. Some cars need gas at least once a week but this car I could go almost 3 weeks without having to fill the tank. Also related to the gas each trip when I do need gas is at most $28 I have never had to spend over $30. Which in the long run saves you a lot of money. This car is great, and it also makes me feel very safe as well. I use it to drive back and forth to college, work every day, and anything else I need.

Toyota corolla is a great starter car with a few problems.
I think my corolla is easy to drive and feels safe. I get around 30 mpg which is nice. I feel like the visibility is not that great as a taller guy. My other main problem with the car is that the high beams feel really weak and do not add much visibility. Seeing in the fog is difficult as well.

I just bought this car less than a month ago and it was a total upgrade from prior vehicles I have owned. I genuinely enjoy the car I am driving now because of its reliability and all over performance as my day to day car. I personally love my touch screen radio as well as my reverse camera I have set up in the back to aid me backing out. And I also love the cosmetic look of the car itself. It's a small car its black and cleans up nicely good gas mileage.
To small, very touchy, gets messy fast due to being small, it's just a hear to there car I want to upgrade to a SUV. It's a good car of maybe one person but not a small family that likes to go places with a little boy. It's a good gas mileage car but it's just not the right size for me but the gas is a plus.

Reliable, fairly responsive and good looking!
The only problem I had was a battery that lasted a year but it was warrantied. It is been extremely reliable. No issues with the mechanics of the body. The ride is a little tight and you feel just about every crack in the road. I am sure premium tires will help. The interior is really nice. It does not feel or look cheap. Nothing has broke in the interior. It has a feature where your cruise control will automatically slow down if there’s a slower vehicle ahead and then it sorted up when it is no longer there. It has a steering assist that keeps your car in its lane. Obviously I like this car.

2017 Toyota corolla: a well-made car.
I bought my car used 2 years ago, and I have yet to have any problems from it. The car has a decently smooth ride and is in perfect working order. The 4 cylinder engine has enough power to get me up to speed when I need it, and I average 33+ mpg. If I had to make a complaint, I'd say that the engine is a bit loud when accelerating, but I love the car and it has already seen me through over 10 road trips in the last 2 years.

2017 Toyota corolla has been a decent vehicle.
Overall my 2017 Toyota corolla is a decent vehicle. It is now 3 years old and is holding up well. It has had issues with the control arm, had to replace that. From day one it has made a squeaking noise when going over speedbumps or when turning sharply to the right. This was believed to be the struts, replaced those. The noise improved but has never gone away completely. No other issues though really. Prior to this car I have always had Honda civics and I do prefer them. I have enjoyed this corolla but will not buy another one.

Toyota corolla 2017- best highlights.
My car is a sleek black car that is matte. It does not have any issues regarding to motor or engine problems. Toyota does have occasional recalls for the brake pedal and other car parts. It has cloth seats and extremely comfortable while driving or being a passenger. The car is a perfect addition for a family of four. Also, it is very economically sound and budget friendly. It is better than a minivan. The car has Bluetooth feature where you can connect your phone to the car and play music playlists. You can take calls as well, it is an useful feature.

Toyota corolla: cons and pros.
I like the way this car handles, and the interior is very comfortable. Lots of legroom for people in the back seat. One thing I do not like is that the doors unlock as soon as you put the car in park. I find this to be a safety hazard, especially if I have just pulled up to an ATM or into a parking space at a business. For a factory system, the sound system is pretty good.

Toyota corolla 2017 model interesting facts!
For me the corolla is a good compact car. It gets great fuel economy estimates and has an excellent predicted reliability rating. It also has a ton of standard driver assistance features and an easy-to-use infotainment system. When it comes to its performance, I can safely say that it is above average. However, the downside of this Toyota model is that it has an underpowered engine and lackluster handling. It beyond any doubt is powerless in zones which are overlooked by the purchasers, however come on you will love it, for it is light on your pocket, extremely dependable and has an open inside as well. Be that as it may, the real offering point for this vehicle would be the dependability, dealt cost, and the anticipated driving knowledge.

The 2017 corolla is a very comfortable car. As a newer driver I really appreciate how easily it handles and for being a lower end car, it feels luxury. The corolla is also a very reliable car, it will last you several years and countless miles. I highly recommend a Toyota corolla to anyone looking for a comfortable, and affordable car!

2017 Toyota corolla review.
Great well working vehicle. I have had the car for over three years now and haven't had any problem yet. It is very reliable. Gas mileage is really great for me. I usually sit around 30.5 mpg, which in my case is better than most cars. The features of this car is nice too. Great interior and exterior design.

Great family car or first car.
No problems with my Toyota corolla le except your everyday car problems like flat tire, oil, etc. Really great family car or great car for a first time buyer, it is also an eco friendly car up to 25 mph. It is very comfortable and spacious with a good size trunk.

The Toyota corolla: an easy choice.
I love my corolla. It is the third car I have had but the first I purchased myself. It runs amazingly, gets to speed quickly, and the touch screen is an amazing add on when my girlfriend is in the passenger seat playing dj. The only issue is that the from of the car is so low that it sometimes scrapes the ground if you pull out of a parking lot incorrectly. Great car though, I recommend it to pretty much anyone.

Toyota corolla recall review.
I bought a 2017 Toyota corolla. After two months of owning the car I received a letter informing me that this model has a recall on the airbags and the seat belt lock. This was a easy fix. I have had the car for a year and it has ran fine and is the perfect everyday car.

Amazing interior design, reliable.
I honestly love everything about my car. It rides smooth and I have never had any problems with it in the 2 years that I have had it. The seats look amazing and the dash and radio look amazing as well. I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone. It was my first car that I bought for myself and I am extremely happy with my decision.

Great little car that gets you from a to b.
It is very reliable and great on gas. The only problem I have had is a rusty spring sound coming from the front suspension. It was the passenger side lower control arm that had to be fixed but I should not have this issue at 60,000 miles. No other problems.

Toyota corolla 2017 experience.
No issues, nice features. Great on gas, very dependable. Nice interior. Rides very smoothly and is safe for children. Does require much maintenance outside of the basic like oil changes. Parts are affordable, very sleek body style. I would highly recommend this vehicle for any family.

Corolla is the choice car!
Very good on gas. The headlights have different brightness options and can be set to auto. The trunk has enough room to fit a 50 in TV because you can put the seat down. It has lane departure to help guide your car back into the lane when you drift off. The cruise control can be set to speed and distance in which the car can stop. The Bluetooth radio is simple yet state of the art at the same time.

This is basic model car. Nothing really classy or special. Just reliable.
My vehicle seems very reliable. It is a basic model. No luxury features. I have only had to get oil changes. No major repairs. Thank god. Comfort it is okay for small frame people but not roomy for larger sized or tall people. The trunk space is okay. Back seat space is manageable if the people are short in the front see.

Love my corolla: a safe and reliable car.
I love my car. It is great on gas and gets 38 miles per gallon. It also has a notification for when I swerve. It also beeps when I am getting too close to a car in front of me or if someone slams on the brakes. I like the back up camera. It is very safe.

Love it so much all the things it does!
I have no issue with my car, keep it up to date on oil changes and tire rotation and it runs like the day I drive it off the lot! The seats are comfortable, the back seat is roomy and the ac and heat work amazing, love the get up and go it has and the eco button, the features are great like if you get to close to another car it breaks for you.

Rating of my 2017 Toyota corolla.
I enjoy driving my 2017 Toyota corolla. It drives smoothly and is extremely good on gas. I have only had to put in $20 of gas every 2 weeks the last few months. There is one problem tho, and that is that it already has some spots of rust on it. I did receive a type of a recall in the mail about that and they are supposed to repaint the car.

Great, reliable family car.
My corolla is a very reliable vehicle. It has all the modern conveniences like radar ready cruise control, rear camera, and Bluetooth entertainment. Because it is a small car, it is not as comfortable as a larger car seat, but still great for road trips. Great gas mileage.
