likeFilled The Good
A spacious interior with plenty of passenger room, fantastic fuel economy, and lower ownership costs than other hybrid vehicles.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The engine is underpowered and slow, there’s a lot of cheap plastic parts in the interior, and rear visibility is poor with the large pillars for the hatch.

The Toyota Prius is roomy and reliable.
My Toyota Prius has been perfect for the amount of city driving that I do daily and for my occasional long road trips. It has also been used for a rideshare service. With its great gas mileage I have saved a lot of money in gas even during the hottest days of the phoenix summer with the ac full blast. It is surprisingly roomy and comfortable inside and always reliable.

Extremely reliable and much more pep than you would think
It is extremely dependable. And while it sounds 'tinny' when closing the door, it is a very solid, durable car. And, of course, the gas mileage is great!

The Plug In Prius, the positive and the negative
This vehicle gets amazing mileage. It drives well in a couple inches of snow. The plug in feature proves about 10 miles on an electric charge. The only drawbacks are that the interior stains easily, and it is prone to dents and dings. I have had a couple fender benders and the damage is very noticeable.

Toyota Prius rave reviews
I don't have any issues with my current vehicle. I love everything about it and would recommend this vehicle to anyone considering it. Buying a Toyota Prius is one of the best decisions I've ever made in my entire life. I've saved so much money on gas, and it's so smooth and comfortable to drive and for being a small car, it has tons of storage space

There is not much leg room in the back seats.
I like that my Prius have comfy seats. I like that it has a trunk under the original trunk to store more stuff. And I like that the seat move back and forth according to your leg length. There is nothing I dislike about it.

It will run economically and forever.
I love the gas mileage, the hope that I'm ever so slightly diminishing my carbon footprint. And Toyotas run FOREVER. I drove my last Prius to 200,000 miles, sold it to a friend, and he's been driving it 2 years with no problems.

Awesome gas mileage over 400 miles on a tank of gas!
The Toyota Prius is one of the best purchases I have made. Its reliable, easy to handle, and gets awesome gas mileage. I can go over 400 miles on a tank of gas! I purchased the extra insurance because I know nothing about car maintenance and the engine looks so high tech. The newer models look super sleek. I love the interior it's comfortable and well lit at night. Would absolutely buy again.

It will haul more stuff than you ever thought possible. .
It is comfortable, handles beautifully, gets decent gas mileage, and has not had any major issues since I bought it new. Prii do not like the cold, wind, or hills, so the 50+mpg is mythical in my part of the country. Still, I like my little car. It is my 2nd Prius and our family's 5th.

The Toyota Prius in a nutshell.
It is a handy commuter car with unbelievable gas mileage. Small and compact with still enough space to fit comfortably. The trunk is large and the back seats can even fold down to allow room for big items. It is also a trustworthy company that makes the Prius. Toyota stands behind it is products and has made this timeless car that can be great for all types of people.

Spacious but no pick up and flawed.
I do not like the performance of the Prius, there is no pick up on it because it is a hybrid but not just that since I have tested other hybrids before. Also, it skids forward when you hit a pothole while simultaneously breaking because it tries to go into self drive or something and it freaks out. The pick up on the highway is slow, you really have to press on it to get going quickly. The gas mileage is awesome of course though since it is a hybrid car. I fill it once a week if that and it gets me to and from work with traffic and barely costs twenty dollars to fill. It is very spacious due to the hatch back and that is something I would miss if I did not have a hatch back anymore. You can lay the seats down and fit just about anything in there.

Prius c: a goat cart with good gas mileage.
Car is extremely slow, but I do enjoy the gas mileage driving in town I can get upwards of 50 mpg so it is a cheap car and would be great for commuting. Car feels like a goat cart though and not like driving a car which makes the experience much less enjoyable due to slow speeds/accelerations and bad handling.

Older prius. Not very attractive.
No problems. It just seems to wear out quickly. Hard to clean. Not particularly appealing to aesthetics.Sometimes I cannot tell if it is running or not. Hard to adjust the settings.Easy to get into a parking spot. Locking system is hard to figure out. Horn is weak.

It is one of the better cars to have and drive for the environments sake
What i like is that i pay less money for gas. Something i hate is the fact that the car can't accelerate fast enough for me. I also do like that it is better for the earth

Does not need to filled up often. I can maintain a full tank.
This vehicle runs good. We currently experience no internal problems. However the exterior of the car seems to get beat up bad. If I would change I would make the exterior more durable. If that is possible. All in all a good make. Runs well and does not use too much gas. Which makes it convenient for my family.

Toyota Prius: Reliable but eh
The Prius is amazing in what it's known for - gas mileage. I don't have to fill up very often, and when I do it's often for less than $20. It's a comfortable ride. I don't love the blind spots when changing lanes and the technology isn't great - if I could just plug and play my phone's apps, that'd be great but I don't have that capability.

What Problems Does the 2013 Toyota Prius Have?

The 2013 Toyota Prius has fewer problems than other hybrid vehicles from the same era, and is a great choice for buyers. There are significantly less issues than the 2011 model year.

Excessive oil consumption is the number one complaint owners have. Usually the oil consumption is not a sign of any problem, and is just the way the engine functions. Check the oil regularly to make sure you don’t damage any components with low oil.

Problems with the radio are also mentioned. Replacing the head unit is the only way to solve the issues if the system freezes up frequently, and can cost around $500.

Brake problems are another issue owners have encountered over the years. Failing actuators reduce the amount of brake force, so stopping takes longer than normal. Replacing the actuators for about $250 solves the issue.

There are 3 recalls, which is better than other cars from 2013. The recalls include an inverter failure, and the hybrid system may shutdown. All of the issues can be fixed with free software updates provided by Toyota dealerships.

What are the Prices, Models & Specs?

The 2013 Toyota Prius is more affordable than other hybrid and electric vehicles and has a price range of $10,582 to $16,484 depending on the model and mileage. When new, the price range was $23,215 to $30,005. Depreciation is average, dropping about 40% in value over the first 5 years.

  • Two is the entry-level model and comes standard with 15-inch alloy wheels, keyless ignition, cruise control, fabric seating, a 6.1-inch infotainment screen, a 6-speaker stereo system with AM/FM/CD playback and USB as well as Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Three is next in the lineup and gets upgraded cloth, a rearview camera, voice control, navigation system, and an EnTune infotainment system with app integration.
  • Persona is a special edition with 17-inch alloy wheels, SofTex artificial leather seating, and black interior accents.
  • Four is next in the lineup and has automatic headlights, an 8-way power driver’s seat, auto-dimming mirror, and a JBL stereo system.
  • Five is the flagship model with unique 17-inch wheels, motorized LED headlights, and additional body trim pieces.

How Long Will the 2013 Toyota Prius Last?

The 2013 Toyota Prius is a dependable compact hybrid car, and with proper care will last over 250,000 miles. Be prepared for battery replacements every 100,000 miles, which can cost about $1,500. Maintenance costs are lower than other hybrids, and Repair Pal estimates them to be $423 per year.

accountCircle Kurt S

We have not had any problems with this vehicle. We have only taken in for preventive maintenance since we bought it new.

accountCircle Robin S

It is very reliable. I have had zero issues with it up until this point. The only reason I've had to go to a mechanic is for oil changes.

accountCircle Jessica G

It is been a very reliable vehicle for the last six years. It has had a few repairs but nothing crazy.

accountCircle Kelli M

I have never had a problem with my Prius. I love the car and am super happy with it. Storage is great.

accountCircle Jordan K

Yes, it is incredibly reliable, and almost never has any problems. I recently had to replace the battery in it and the battery is very expensive.

accountCircle Caitlin H

The 2013 Toyota Prius is most reliable by brand. Have never had a problem Toyota. The most annoying part is that if it ever has any issues, it’s specialized in a way that you have to pay Toyota to fix it, however I found the only issue/damage to the vehicle was being struck by debris of an semi-truck on the highway. No randomly generated engine problems or anything like that one might run into with a domestic. Has ~275,000 miles. Due to gas mileage big favorite for road trips.

accountCircle Stella T

I have not had any problems with it yet, and have not had to take it in for anything beyond scheduled maintenance.

accountCircle Irene K

I've only had a single problem with the Prius where the Toyota logo fell off the front. Toyota replaces it for free when I was in for service. Outside of that I haven't had a problem.

What Technology & Safety Features Are Included?

Technology is excellent compared to other hybrid cars, with a standard touchscreen infotainment system.

  • Base technology includes a 6.1-inch infotainment screen, AM/FM/CD stereo system with USB and Bluetooth connectivity, and 6 speakers.
  • Upgrades include navigation, an improved JBL stereo system, and EnTune applications.
  • For safety there are standard antilock brakes, airbags, as well as stability and traction control systems. Optional upgrades include a rearview camera, emergency communication system, as well as pre-collision and lane departure warning systems.

The Chevy has more passenger room, and a more powerful engine, but weighs more as well, so performance is similar.  Toyota offers better technology and is a longer-lasting option. Toyota Prius, a practical compact vehicle worth every penny.
The Toyota Prius may not have great horsepower, but it more than makes up for it in terms of spaciousness and practical utility. The fuel efficiency is incredible, and it is fairly comfortable to ride in. The hatchback is quite practical thanks to the great cargo space, and the seats allow passengers to ride fairly comfortably.

Prius is worth the price tag.
Great car! Very reliable in terms of lifespan and any issues with mechanics. Gas is incredible, I can get by on filling up gas about 2 or 3 times a month. I would recommend this car to anyone that wants a reliable and cost efficient car as well as a smooth ride.
accountCircle George J on June 25, 2021
Great mileage and reliable.
Road noise at highway speed is too high. Gas mileage is great -50+. Hatchback gives flexibility for cargo. For being 7 years old the interior and exterior is great. I have had mostly maintenance charges. No repairs other than the radio replacement. No complaint.

Economic, reliable and compact car.
Toyota Prius is a reliable, economy and effective car. It is hybrid, thus, it does not require a lot of oil. User can use this car for commute, and travel for long distance. Even though, your car would have trouble or any other issues, it is cheap and easy to fix at almost any places. However, it is not super comfortable for family since it is not too big. The baggage capacity does not have enough space, unfortunately.

Reliable gas-sipper with a noisy ride.
My Prius is very reliable. I purchased my Prius used and I have had it for over five years. I have put over 140,000 miles on it. I have kept up with regular maintenance and have had no issues with it. Combining city, highway, and small country highway miles, I have reliably had 48-50 miles per gallon. I like that I can go over 300 miles on one tank of gas. One complaint I have is that the Prius has a noisy ride. There is a lot of road noise, especially on the interstate. Another complaint is that you must be very careful about blind spots, especially on the driver-side rear area. I find that I have to turn all the way around to make sure there is not a vehicle.

Prius have great mileage but the only problem is looks of Prius and the seats are not that comfortable but it is a cheap vehicle so it is a great deal. It is a reliable vehicle with automatic transmission. It also runs pretty smooth. So in conclusion it is not a flashy car but a family car.

Thing to consider when buying Toyota Prius.
Maintenance is expensive after warranty is over. Parts are expensive. Bumper is too low so it's easy hit the parking bar. It needs to get smoke check even its hybrid which is not an advantage, so it is another thing we need to consider when buying Toyota Prius.

I love the appearance and the bright red color of my vehicle.
Love the ease of driving. Love the compact size since it makes finding a parking space easier. It has enough storage space most of the time for my needs. It does have several blind spots, however, but if the backseat headrests are removed, it is possible to see better. It is comfortable, but I do use a wedge in the driver's seat for better visibility since I am 5’2”.

Good gas mileage, but hard to drive in the mountains.
I love the gas mileage on this car, it has saved me a lot of money over the years since I've had it. The one issue that I have had with this car is how low it is to the ground. I live in the mountains and having the car be so low to the ground has caused some cosmetic and non cosmetic damage to the car.

Toyota Prius is a good car.
It is a good car, really, it is. The Toyota Prius is small and able to fit into small parking spots that bigger cars are not able to fit into. It is also very easy to park for that reason. Even though it is small, it easily fits your passengers and your stuff. All in all, it is a good car.
accountCircle Isabelle M on April 26, 2021
Compact and practical; good gas mileage.
The car consistently gets 30-40 miles to the gallon while maintaining reasonable speed. It accelerates well, and the brakes are very responsive. It has a built in maps as well as radio with the touch screen monitor. The car includes seat warmers and a quick working heater. The back seats fold to make the trunk area more spacious given you have to transport a larger object. It is extremely practical and reliable.

Great mileage for someone who drives distances.
It is dependable and gets great gas mileage. There are 2 things I do not like about it. First, the front bumper is particularly close to the ground so it easily gets dented when you go over big bumps or parallel park. Second, the window in the back of the car has a line that goes through it which makes it more difficult to see through when changing lanes.
accountCircle Ali H on April 14, 2021
The gas mileage is the best.
I love driving a Prius, but I hate saying that I drive a Prius. The gas is great, the mileage is also great. This car tells you when it needs maintenance and beeps at you when something is wrong. The only issue I have is that the inside could be better and that they are not the best looking. My favorite part of driving the Prius is the gas mileage. The tank is small, but gets me far. I can go 2 weeks to a month without filling up depending on far I go.

I have never had a single problem with my vehicle. I love the great mileage and the dependability of the Prius. It's surprisingly roomy for being a small car, too! It handles well, also. If I had to say anything negative, I would say that it's only downside is that it's kind of annoying that they can never figure out how to turn off the maintenance light when I get my oil changed. Seats are not high enough nor do they adjust. Sunroof is great, very easy to navigate. Long trips allow the seats to get uncomfortable. The cloth stains when things are spilled on them. Floor mats get curled up, catching my foot.

Amazing car in a small package!
Problems: when you get over a certain amount of miles, your hydrogen battery will probably die and the price for its replacement is steep. Other than that, there are no issues. Performance: is fantastic! Reliability: this car is highly dependable and great on gas. The car is low maintenance! Comfort: could be better but it rides pretty good. Features: I think you get a great value for this vehicle with what you spend.

I think the most important thing is save energy, to protect environment
Save energy, save me a lot money, also speed is acceptable too

When you stop at a red light, the gas engine shuts off and you waste no fuel waiting for the light to change.
Great fuel mileage, so when you pull up to the fueling station you drive away with the satisfaction that you are being a good steward of our planet.

Prius is a car worth buying.
My car is comfortable for both driver and passenger even folks in the back seat say they have enough room. The hatchback makes hauling things a lot easier, so the small car feels big for storage. It is good on gas, maybe even great (I still average 50 mpg). I live in a busy area so it is easy to park both because of size and because it turns well. The backup camera works well, except for in the rain and snow. It also has plenty of pep for me around town.
