Rav4: where trendy and sporty meet.
I really love the roomy trunk space with the built-in floor compartment. The four-wheel-drive makes it a great car to drive in poor weather and the built-in roadside assistance and bluetooth capabilities add a nice and luxurious touch to my sporty vehicle.

The v6 engine makes the car very fast and fun to drive.
It has been a very reliable vehicle. It is sporty and the v6 makes it fun to drive. Even though it is an older model it still looks and performs very well. The only thing showing any wear are the pinstripes on the exterior paint and a little on the driver's seat which is leather.

Possesses a lot of style.
No real problems. Extremely reliable. Driving performance is good with easy handling. 2011 did not receive Takata airbags and there has been no recall on this year. Body integrity seems to be holding. Except tires and a new battery, there have been no major repairs.

Great vehicle that looks new and has lots of amazing storage space!
My rav4 is awesome! It is very comfortable to drive in and I enjoy being able to drive friends in the car. They are always impressed by how nice it is - even at 9 years old it looks brand new. I enjoy how the car is able to fit a lot of stuff in it, which is helpful when looking to move across the country. My rav4 also has roof racks on it, which are great to use. I enjoy the extra storage space that the car has, like underneath the mat in the back of the car there are little compartments for storing more things. This makes it easy to store cleaning supplies or jumper cables without taking up car space.

Rav4 is a great car to own and drive.
I love how spacious it is both in the front and the back seating area. It also has the cargo compartment in the back under the mat which makes extra room for things I always carry with me. It is easy to drive and handle and I love both the interior and exterior and am proud to own it. I have had no problems with it from day 1 and the color silver is a great color and hides dirt.

Toyota rav4, dependable, comfortable vehicle.
I love my Toyota rav4. It is a very dependable car, that rides smooth both locally and on road trips. We have not had much mechanic work done on it at all, except tires. The Toyota rav4 is good on gas mileage as well. The Toyota rav4 is good on the road in all weather conditions.

I love the space and storage.
I love the space it has to offer and the storage it has. There is enough cup holders for everyone in the car. I find that the seats are very comfortable and there is enough leg room in the back for the riders in the back. Love the storage in the very back it's a great place to store items that you don't need everyday.

Reliable, safe car that gets my family where we need to go. We would like a bigger vehicle, need more room
accountCircle Serena N
Not a very decent family car!
The air conditioner works at about half the capacity that it used to, two years into owning the car. Though the car is generally small, the trunk is at a really awkward size, where, even when you pull the back seats down, it is either enormously big for an object you are trying to put in (groceries), or, it is too small to fit what you want ( a mid-sized bike).

This vehicle has a great deal trunk space
This vehicle is extremely reliable. It performs really well. It is advised to stay up on the oil changes to ensure good performance. There has been some engine issues with RAV4s in this year series. My engine did need repairs for this issue at the 79k mark.
accountCircle Ashley P
Decent amount of room. Seats fold down in the backseat to create a big trunk.
Never had any major issues with the car. The ac compressor broke once but it got fixed and that was it. I have never been in an accident with it. Does pretty well in the snow and I like the sun roof. Paint holds up really well and surprising you have a lot of room in the back and trunk for a smaller SUV.

Need a new car. Silver 2011 Toyota rav4.
Comfortable and spacious, constantly has issues though. Loses fluids fast, drives rough, poor mileage, would not buy one again, only purchased because it was cheap. Rusts easily. Love the storage and room for packing though. Would not recommend to someone else though.

The cover for spare tire on the back comes off.
My car is not perfect, but serves me ok when I drive to run errands and work, in general it is comfortable and reliable, but it does not fit me very well, what I meant I am small person, and impossible to adjust the seat to the level that I am comfortable with,

We expect our Toyota to last more than 200,000 miles!
Our 2011 Toyota rav4 is extremely reliable. It has approximately 140k miles and has had only minor engine maintenance needed. We are expecting it to last 200k+ miles. It is a simple car with basic, and now outdated features, but drives smoothly for its age. It was an affordable purchase in the small SUV market and we are pleased with its overall performance, even though it does not have the bells and whistles of newer models.

What Problems Does the 2011 Toyota RAV4 Have?

The 2011 model year for the RAV4 is a good choice since there are few reported problems. Paint peeling is the most common issue reported, and happens when it does not cure properly at the factory. A rare, yet serious, problem is sudden acceleration while braking. It is caused by a software problem, but Toyota has not addressed it for the 2011 model year. Owners have also had complaints about general interior fit and finish.

The 2011 Toyota RAV4’s problems include 11 recalls & an investigation into acceleration, airbag & fuel odor issues, more than average for a car its age. They cover corrosion on the suspension, electrical wiring issues, window switches, windshield wipers, and airbags. The most serious recall is for suspension corrosion since it can damage the tie rods and increase the risk of an accident.

What are the Prices, Models & Specs?

Pricing on the 2011 Toyota RAV4 ranges from $11,442 to $14,553, depending on the model and mileage. When new, it had a price of $22,475 to $28,785. It depreciates slower than other compact SUVs, losing 40% of its value in the first 5 years.

  • The entry-level RAV4 model is simply called the Base. Standard features include 16-inch steel wheels, cloth seating, AM/FM/CD stereo with MP3 playback, Satellite radio, 6-speakers, cruise control, and remote keyless entry.
  • A step up is the Sport Upgrades include 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, tinted glass, body-colored door and fender trims, and a power moonroof.
  • The flagship model is the Limited. Features include 17-inch wheels, a touch-screen navigation system, JBL stereo, leather seats, and heated front seats.

How Long Will the 2011 Toyota RAV4 Last?

Toyota is famous for its reliability, and a 2011 RAV4 will last over 250,000 miles with proper care. This is longer than other compact SUVs on the market. Repair Pal estimates it will cost $450 per year to maintain a RAV4, which is average for its class.

accountCircle Veronica O. N

Yes, it is very reliable. The only problem I have experienced is the seal under the door-lock control button and the lock-out button needs replacing on the driver's side. The vehicle is great mechanically.

accountCircle Elaine L

Reliable as far as I am concerned and consumer reports says it has good track record. Cabin is a bit noisy like most Toyotas. My particular vehicle has some body and paint damage, but it was like that when I got it used.

accountCircle elizabeth F

Now it is ok. After 8 year now I feel I need to change rear struts. One time I had to change the coolant radiator horse and the battery. Otherwise everything is ok. And break just couple time.

accountCircle Karen H

Very reliable vehicle. Some problems with the electronics. Window wont go up and down properly, not all lights work.

accountCircle Annette B

It has many problems. Makes a lot of noise and sounds like it is dragging. It was also in an accident.

accountCircle Scarlet S

It is incredibly reliable. It handles well in the rain and snow and handles any terrain. I also love the extra compartment in the trunk for emergency supplies and the spare tire compartment on the trunk door.

accountCircle Margaret W

No problems. Very reliable. Just standard check ups. No issues. Just follow basic upkeep and you are good to go.

accountCircle Shane T

Yes the Rav4 is extremely reliable and made for vacations, short day trips, loading up for work. The ride is smooth and I don't have to worry about spending extra money to a foreign auto mechanic.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

Technology in the 2011 RAV4 is good for its time, and above average for compact SUVs in this price range.

  • Standard technology includes a 6-speaker stereo complete with an AM/FM/CD Player with MP3 playback, and Satellite radio
  • Technology upgrades include DVD-based navigation, a JBL stereo system, and Bluetooth connectivity.
  • For safety, all RAV4 models come standard with a rear-view camera and Toyota’s STAR Safety System, which includes stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and electronic brake force distribution.

What Engine Options are Available?

2011 Toyota RAV4 engine options include a capable four-cylinder and a peppy V6. Performance is excellent with the optional V6 engine, going from 0 to 60 in 6.3 seconds, much faster than its competitors.

  • The base engine is a 2.5L 4-cylinder with 179 horsepower.
  • An upgraded 3.5L V6 is available and produces 269 horsepower.

What Colors Options are Available?

How Big is the RAV4?

Size is a selling point for the 2011 RAV4 since it is larger and roomier than most of its competitors. It is one of the only compact SUVs that offers three rows of seating, although legroom is limited in the third row. Cargo room is excellent in the RAV4, with 12.3 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 36.4 behind the second row, and up to 73 cubic feet of room with all seats folded flat.

Centered wide dash shot

How Does the 2011 Toyota RAV4 Compare to Other SUVs?

Based on owner reviews, the 2011 RAV4 ranks 4th out of 26 compact SUVs, putting it near the top of its class. A close competitor is the Honda CR-V. Both are very reliable long-lasting choices, but the optional V6 in the Toyota makes it more fun to drive. The CR-V scores higher in safety tests, and has higher quality interior materials. Overall, the two are very close to each other and a lot of the choice comes down to brand preference, so it is worth it to test drive both.

Another rival is the Hyundai Tucson, which has a more up-to-date interior, but is significantly smaller inside. In long-term reliability tests, the Toyota scores better than the Hyundai, and has a lower cost of ownership. Between the two, the Toyota is the better choice since it is going to be a more affordable SUV to own.

Final Verdict: Is the 2011 Toyota RAV4 a Good SUV?

Yes, the 2011 RAV4 is a good compact SUV. Toyota focuses on making the RAV4 extremely reliable, and gives it more interior room for passengers and cargo. Where the Toyota misses the mark is in safety tests, and the interior materials are not as good as other SUVs. If you are in the market for a compact SUV and want more power and 3 rows of seating, the RAV4 is the best choice.

I love this car and it has never let me down. I have far more than 200,000 km on it and I don’t always keep up with regular maintenance like I should but it has never broken down on me. There is an issue with the transmission and it accelerating loud around 50/60km per hr, and loud start up when the engine is cold. I’m planning to replace the car when this issue makes my car unable to run but it’s been 2 years and it hasn’t much progressed yet. Great in snow with good tires. Engine is still powerful. No serious complaints, love my car!!!

Smooth ride and very reliable. Gets pretty good gas mileage for a midsize, and it also has a third row. Really like the 4WD. Pretty alright sound system for stock speakers.
Although it isn't super technologically advanced, it's the perfect car for comfortable transportation.

My Toyota rav4 is the best car ever!
I love everything about my car! The gas mileage is fabulous, the space is ample, the storage space is amazing, the style is perfect, the fact that it is an SUV but not one too huge is phenomenal. But yet has all the room you really need. Great for both adults and children.

The rav4: a perfect happy medium.
I absolutely love my car. Prior to this midsize SUV, I had a sedan. Unlike my little car, the rav4 has AWD which makes me feel much safer during the winter months. I find the car to be set up nicely including hands free calling as well as volume control and cruise control right on the steering wheel. It is reliable, safe, comfortable, and spacious. It also drives very smoothly!

Why the rav4 is the car for you.
This car is my very first car, so driving wise, it is perfect for first timers. It is roomy, it is runs extremely well, and it is a reliable vehicle. It is also comfortable, which is definitely important when it comes to long drives. It also comes with an aux cord, which gives you a lot of freedom when driving, like being able to listen to music and such.

It is reliable, good gas mileage, comfortable, powerful enough to drive a bit fast if needed. The 3rd row seats have been very helpful when taking trips with family and friends. The cargo area and pull down seats are spacious enough to carry all camping equipment and suitcases.

Spacious, great for camping, outdoor activities and long distance drives. The seats are comfortable but are fairly firm. I enjoy the roof rack for kayaks, the sunroof and 4wd for winter. If I had to buy another vehicle it would have to a rav4. It is dependable. Only requires basic maintenance. The way it drives is so smooth. It is the vehicle that everyone feels comfortable in. Either driving or riding. When the weather is bad it has the essentials to help make sure your drive is safe.

Best car for the money and great on gas mileage.
This car is comfortable, easy to maintain no low on gas mileage. It comes with tons of features. I have a moonroof which is great during the summer months. It has a thermostat which is great for summer and winter. The car easy heats & cools. If you want speed from sitting still, this vehicle has a v6 that has great pick up. It is actually hard to remember to keep it under the speed limit since it rides so easy. Maintenance has been a breeze. I have had no issues since I purchased it used 4 years ago.

No worries with the rav4.
Very reliable, comfortable car. Love the space in the back to transport things. My only issue with the rav4 is that I cannot fit 3 car seats in it. Luckily the space in the back allows me to keep the 3rd car seat in the back so it can be easily switched out. Regular maintenance has kept the car in good running order. I love that it is very dependable.

Love the reliability. I have never really need anything but basic maintenance. It is basic in design but has all the basic comforts you expect. Excellent value for money!
Truly no maintenance issues at all, which is so impressive as it is 9 years old. But the radio has had some issues, especially when it is cold. However, this is minor as there have been no mechanical issues. It is reliable and safe, though gas mileage could be better.

The goldilocks of vehicles.
Other than routine maintenance, I have had no problems with my car. I feel comfortable in it, although I do wish the seats had a little more cushion. The fabric feels kind of cheap, but it does not bother me. I love the size of the vehicle. I am not tall so driving a gigantic vehicle would not be comfortable for me. The rav4 is the right size for me. My car is reliable and I love how much space it has. I am always surprised at how much I can fit in my vehicle.
accountCircle Gaby R on March 31, 2021
It is not as roomy as it looks.
The car is really good. It is okay on gas mileage, but sometimes it does get a little pricey trying to fill it up. The last row of seats has no legroom and each row only fits two people. I don't like how hard I have to push the doors for them to close sometimes.

The best vehicle I've ever owned!
I love my Toyota RAV4! This is the second Toyota RAV4 that I have owned because I like the safety features and smooth ride. My car has the tire on the back (which I think is awesome that it is a tire, not a spare) which allows room for storage underneath in the back. However, I am disappointed that mine is the last year that they apparently structured the RAV4 to have the tire on the back; instead it is stored underneath, taking away that extra storage. This would be the only feature I would want changed on future models.

Comfort and convenience in an economic package.
My rav4 performs and handles very well. The unexpected maintenance has been minimal and the routine maintenance is inexpensive. I like the handling of the rav4 and even use it for some back road camping. I particularly like the barn door in the back as it make loading and unloading easier given my height. I like the convenience of having the spare tire easily accessible on the back of the car versus having it buried in a trunk or attached beneath the rear of the car.

Older rav4 radio & speaker frustrations.
The Toyota 2012 rav4 is a great car with lots of space! I travel a lot and it is perfect for road trips and moving. It is very comfortable. It has heated seats, leather seats, and a sky roof! The only thing that I wish I would have known before I bought it is that it does not get the best gas mileage. Besides that, I have had little to no problems with it. My rav4 has 140,000 miles on it and it still runs like it is brand new! Because my car is an older model, I spent money to get a new radio with Bluetooth and new speakers because the speaker on the passenger side blew out and my phone does not have a aux cord plug in. That was quite frustrating but that is expected for an older car! The car is very reliable and I love it!!

The only thing that I really do not like about our Toyota RAV4 is that is has loud road noise. We love how spacious the back of the vehicle is once the back seats are put down. Great SUV for parents that is awesome on gas!
My Toyota RAV4 is great. It does really well with gas but still has plenty of room that's people typically look for in larger SUVS. It's the perfect balance between a large SUV and a sedan. There is so much room in the back trunk area which also has additional storage under the floor. The back seats lay down easily to fit larger items. I dislike that it doesn't have enough legroom for tall people to ride comfortably for very long with passengers in the back seat. With our son in his car seat, my 6'2" husband isn't comfortable in the front. I dislike that it doesn't warn me when I accidentally leave my headlights on. I dislike that it is a boring vehicle.

I feel safe driving my car. I'm at a comfortable height and it is short enough where parking isn't an issue.
I love my rav4. I've had it for 6 years and haven't had any issues with it. I have 4 wheel drive. There is leather interior and a backup camera in your rearview mirror when you go in reverse.

I'll get another RAV4 when it's time.
I have had no mechanical problems. It's very dependable and gets me through any snow we get, even if the road has not been plowed. We drive to Florida from Michigan & get great mileage. There is plenty of room inside. It's wide enough for my golf clubs to sit sideways.

It is an all around sturdy vehicle. Not much to worry about.
My Toyota rav4 is a reliable and sturdy vehicle. It runs efficiently in all sorts of weather and it is comfortable as well. My parents, disillusioning from being treated poorly by ford, started hunting for something new and now they only drive the rav4. I always get good deals on their old ones.

Great SUV for moms of 2 kids.
I love my rav4! Fits both of my kid's car seats comfortably with plenty of room in the back for a bulky double stroller, diaper bag and more. I love the back hatch opening to the side instead of up because I sometimes have trouble lifting my arms up over my head from an old injury. Handles great in the snow and rain as well.

It's safe, comfortable, and good for a smaller family.
It's too small for a growing and travelling family.
