Editor's Overview

2013 marks the fourth generation for the Toyota RAV4, which takes credit for starting the "crossover" SUV segment nearly two decades ago. New design, improved fuel economy and more technology make the 2013 RAV4 a capable vehicle in this competitive segment. The RAV4 isn’t the most comfortable or the most dynamic, but its reliability and resale record are hard to ignore.

This is an all around winner!

Like all Toyotas this is a reliable car. Maintenance is just the basic oil change, tire rotation, windshield wipers, and brakes. The size is perfect. The back seats go down completely flat, when the headrests are adjusted, giving plenty of cargo room. The nav system is decent. A little confusing at first with 3 route choices. Economical is the best choice if you want to take freeways. Otherwise, the other two routes take you on a lot of side streets. We did have a problem with the glove compartment, but that was from overfilling on our part. The seats are roomy and comfortable enough. Good height of the seats for my grandmother to get in and out of the car. Gas mileage is good for an SUV and has an eco indicator to show how well your driving is on gas saving. Obviously, if you hit the gas the indicator goes away and when you are coasting it turns on. The car is pretty solid and feels safe. An overall great car.

Sport mode lets you accelerate fast and feels like a sports car!

I own Toyota Rav4 XLE. It has a eco mode which lets the gears shift slower yo save gas and a Sport mode to make the gears shift faster. Sport mode is great for the freeways. It has a backup camera, touch screen, navigation system, satellite radio, air conditioner with dual climate control, retractable moonroof, cruise control, Bluetooth enabled, usb port, two cup holders in the front, and one cup holder in all 4 doors, two cigarette lighter sockets for charging phone. Seats are cloth and can recline and move back and forth with ease. You can put the back all the ways down flat for extra room. There's a light in the back seat of the car and another light on the side you can switch on and off. Spare tire is inside car and easy to get too. Just take off floor panel in the trunk area. The SUV has a lot of room and I am very happy with it.

Reliable car with lots of good features.

This car has been very reliable for me. Having it for 2 years never had a problem. It drives really smooth, average on the road I make 28-29 mpg which is really cool for a mid SUV. I like that it come in duo colors, making it more unique. Leather seats are very comfortable. It has all the features that a driver needs, like: Bluetooth connection, auto ac, USB ports, a lot of storage compartments. The big trunk is very useful for big grocery shopping. There are a few things that I don't like. There is no sunglasses storage, as Toyota usually has. Also the rear seats doesn't have ac controls, which I consider essential in a car. Overall this car is a very good and reliable for a family that will get to the destination safely.

Safety Recalls (1)

Seat Belts Feb 19, 2016
Report Receipt Date:
Feb 19, 2016
NHTSA Campaign:
16V096000
Summary:
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2006-2012 RAV4 vehicles manufactured July 28, 2005, to December 19, 2012, and 2012-2014 RAV4 EV vehicles manufactured July 24, 2012, to August 29, 2014. In the event of a frontal collision, the rear seat belts for the outboard seats may be cut by the seat cushion frame.
Consequence:
A cut seat belt may not properly restrain the seat occupant, increasing their risk of injury in a crash.
Remedy:
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will install a protector over both rear seat cushion frames, free of charge. Parts for the remedy are not currently available. Owners were sent interim notification letters on March 16, 2016. A second notice will be mailed when parts are available. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is G0F.
