2010 Toyota Sienna Review: Dependable Worry-Free Minivan Which Fits A Family

Alex Showalter
Sep 2, 2022

The 2010 Toyota Sienna lasts around 300,000 miles with only some minor floor mat and A/C system issues. At $8,735 to $17,127, it’s expensive, but it’s worth the money for the best minivan from 2010.

likeFilled The Good
The all-wheel-drive system works well in the snow, the standard V6 engine offers more power than other vans and the cargo space is great.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The handling feels loose compared to other vans, there’s not as many safety features as some competitors and the stereo system is outdated.

Is the 2010 Toyota Sienna a Good Used Van?

  • Yes, 2010 is a great year for the Sienna with a high overall rating of 9/10. Owner reviews praise the spacious cabin, the dependable engine, and comfortable seats for long drives.
  • Interior quality is similar to other minivans with an average score of 7/10. The entry-level models have durable cloth and the higher-end versions have nice leather. The stereo system is also very easy to use.
  • Reliability ratings are outstanding with a perfect score of 10/10. Buyers should avoid Sienna models from 20062007, but the models from 20082020 are all excellent choices.
  • Performance is great from the standard V6 engine which offers more power than many other vans.
  • The Sienna is a reasonably safe van, earning an overall rating of 4-stars in government crash tests including 5-stars in the side impact tests and 4-stars in the rollover risk.
  • Fuel economy is average for a minivan at around 19 MPG, which should get owners about 380 miles of range out of the 20 gallon gas tank. Fuel costs are $254/month when you drive 15,000 miles per year, which is average compared to other minivans.

I'm a Toyota fan forever!
What a good van. We have not had a bit of trouble from it in eight years. I would definitely buy one again.

A fantastic road trip companion!
My sienna has been a trusty companion though countless road trips, needing to carry huge theater sets and large groups of friends and family all over. The car has had parts replaced, but over all has given me nearly ten years and counting of dependability and safety.

I like that it gets good gas mileage, plenty of space for everyone and has a smooth ride.
I like that it has enough room for 7 people comfortably. Plenty of storage space. Nice ride.

Toyota sienna reliability and comfort.
Overall my Toyota sienna has been excellent. I am almost at 200k with no mechanical issues. My biggest issue is with the sliding side doors hinges and cable and the power locks. Overall the vehicle is very comfortable and reliable and a great choice for a minivan.
accountCircle Dee n
It handles well in bad weather. There is a lot of snow in New Hampshire and it holds Its own.
I like the fact that it is reliable. The gas mileage is very good and it has plenty of room to take my entire family on vacation.

I love my sienna! The back windows even roll all the way down!
It has a sunroof that opens all the way, or tilts open a little, which I have always wanted. The front seats heat up in the winter. It has leather seats, which I do not like, but tolerate. The side doors and hatch are remote controlled, which is great when you are shopping. The radio has controls on the dash and the steering wheel, which is so handy.

The Toyota sienna is a fabulous family car.
The sienna is a great family care. It has a larger screen TV for the kids to watch, bucket seats and a very large trunk. It has four wheel drive and is great in the snow. The automatic door and trunk is a great convenience when you hands are full. The bucket seat recline and have feet rests for a long car ride.

Large space and lots of seating for all.
The vehicle is amazing. My family and I use it constantly. It is awesome for carrying lots of people around which is good for my family because we are constantly on the move. It is very comfortable and features a big trunk space as well. All in all this is an amazing vehicle.

The minivan is always good for transportation and storage.
This van is quite old and worn down. The engine overheats often and the car stalls every time it is started. The ac can't hold up either unless the windows are rolled for circulation. This minivan was bought over 10 years ago though and has lasted many in very good condition, but now it is definitely going to burn out.
accountCircle vanessa C
It has a lot of space for kids and materials
Its old and no Bluetooth or aux. Space is great but I didn't need it as much as I do now. I want a better car. No sunroof, I would love for the sun to shine through. The engine is getting rusty, need to replace the starter every two months. It's good on gas, so there's that

Makes for a good camper van option.
I bought my van used so I cannot speak to the performance of this model brand new. But I find mine to be a reliable mode of transportation. I enjoy the ease of steering and ability to fit in most spaces while still have plenty of space inside the vehicle proper. I use mine as a camper van and I am able to sleep and haul my gear comfortably yet compact.

Others should know that it has problems that Toyota has not addressed.
I like the roominess of it. I dislike that it seems to be cheaply made in some areas.

That it is safe and I love driving it and it smells good
The door handle fell off. I like how it can fit my large family and is safe. I would buy a newer version

Toyota sienna: the review.
The comfort is good. Since the car is large, it allows for a lot of room to fit a lot of people. It also includes features like a TV that allows two movies to be streamed at once so that is also nice. We have driven this car on many road trips since it can hold a lot of stuff.
accountCircle kade p
I very much like the rear bench that folds flat providing more cargo space when needed.
My vehicle is okay, I don't particularly love it, but it works for what it is. I believe the previous owners just didn't take care of it well enough and maybe I would like it better if it had been cared for better.

That it seems really safe and I like to drive it.
I like it ok. It has enough room, and rides really well. I wish it was more sporty.

What Do Critics Say About the Toyota Sienna?

  • Consumer Reports says the Sienna is the top-rated minivan of its time, with very high owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds gives the Sienna a 4.4/5, praising the smooth V6 engine, but doesn’t like the floaty handling.
  • Kelley Blue Book users rate the Sienna 4.6/5 and enjoy the very comfortable seats, but owners don’t like the somewhat dated stereo system.

What Common Problems Does the 2010 Toyota Sienna Have?

The most common problems found on the 2010 Toyota Sienna include unintended acceleration, A/C system leaks, and a worn steering boot. Overall, these problems are less severe than in other minivans from 2010, and the repair costs are more affordable too.

Unintended acceleration is the most widespread complaint from owners at around 70,000 miles. The issue is caused by some floor mat and throttle issues which were common across Toyota vehicles from this era. Usually removing the floor mats fixes the problem.

A/C system leaks are another issue mentioned by some owners at around 65,000 miles. There’s a weak line for the A/C charge system and it leaks refrigerant. Replacing the line and recharging the system costs about $300, depending on local labor rates.

A worn steering boot is also mentioned by owners at around 100,000 miles. The rubber boot gets torn as the vehicle ages and has to be replaced to prevent grease from leaking out. Replacing the boot is around $600.

There are 8 recalls, similar to other vans from 2010. The most serious recall covers the shift lever assembly, which can let the Sienna slide out of park and roll away. Toyota will change out the shift lock on affected vans. Many of the other recalls are less serious and cover the spare tire and load-carrying labels.

How Long Will the 2010 Toyota Sienna Last?

A well-maintained 2010 Toyota Sienna can last over 300,000 miles and gets an outstanding durability score of 10/10. The Sienna lasts twice as long as competitors like the Dodge Grand Caravan. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other vans according to data from Repair Pal, at $568 per year.

Since most 2010 Toyota Sienna models will have over 100,000 miles buyers should be prepared to replace items including the purge valve for $150, the brake hose costing $200, and the A/C blend door actuator, which costs $615.

There are no problems with the car after it heats up a bit in the winter, it drives nicely with the new tires is It and the check engine light is working.

accountCircle ALICE g

The only thing I don't really like about is that it wasted a lot of gas and so I have to buy gas a lot more I pay 60 dollars for a week of work without going anywhere use otherwise I have to buy more.

accountCircle Marisa A

My sienna is very reliable. We have yet to have any problems with it, but we also are vigilant about keeping up with maintenance.

accountCircle Amber B

Yes it is reliable it does not have any problems. It only needs the standard maintenance and regular checkups

Is the 2010 Toyota Sienna a Good Value?

Yes, the 2010 Sienna is a good value since it’s so reliable. Blue book values range from $8,735 to $17,127, which makes the Sienna more expensive than other minivans including the Chrysler Town & Country and Kia Sedona. When new, the price range was $24,540 to $37,865. Depreciation is better than average, losing about 8% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Toyota Sienna?

There are four versions of the Sienna offered for the 2010 model year. The second generation of the Toyota Sienna was introduced in 2004, and replaced by the third generation in 2011.

How Does the Toyota Sienna Compare to the Competition?

The Toyota Sienna is the best minivan available for the 2010 model year offering the most dependable engine and an extremely durable interior.

The Honda Odyssey is a popular competitor which costs about $1,000 less. Technology is more advanced in the Honda Odyssey, but the Toyota Sienna is more comfortable on bumpy roads. We recommend the Toyota Sienna since they last longer and have fewer complaints.

The Dodge Grand Caravan is another competitor, which costs about $2,500 less. Passenger space is a little better in the Dodge Grand Caravan, but the Toyota Sienna wins at everything else. We recommend the Toyota Sienna since it does not have the same serious mechanical problems found on the Dodge Grand Caravan.

Best vehicle I've ever owned.
I'm on my 3rd Toyota Sienna: bought our 1st brand new, and after 5 years just wanted to upgrade to newer. 2nd Sienna was totalled in a car accident. Got an amazing deal on our 3rd, 2010 with only 75k miles in showroom condition!! I seriously contemplated downsizing to a midsize SUV since I don't have children at home anymore, but after test driving MANY cars decided to stick with my comfy, reliable Sienna. I still do occasional hauling of stuff to the local dump, so I'm always so thankful for the amount of room the Sienna has to load up. I do have lots of grandkids now, so I'm also thankful to still have the ability to pick up a bunch for an outing. I stay on top of all my maintenance and have never had any major issues with any of my Siennas. I love how this vehicle handles, SMOOTH ride, lots of power, great turning radius, great visibility out all windows. I've even started car camping in it! Take out the middle row seats and I have LOTS of room to set up a bed with plenty of space to load up supplies for the campground. So much fun!! I don't anticipate ever having any other car.

A great family van, when plenty of space and seats for our growing family.
I am not too familiar with vehicles or their parts, but I am really thankful for our van. It is a 2010 Toyota sienna and it a tan color. When we were given this van, we knew it would need some repairs and we have thankfully made a few. We were able to get the ac fixed and now we need a new door as well, or a new wire for the sliding door.

Toyota sienna: the perfect car for families.
The Toyota sienna is extremely reliable, comfortable, and perfect for families. The back row of seats can be folded down to make more room in the trunk, and the middle row of chairs could also be removed. One drawback is that none of the doors are automatic, and the middle windows do not open all the way. Overall, this is a wonderful vehicle that has served me and my family very well for a decade.
accountCircle Colette L on April 30, 2021
A great family vehicle that is very accomodating.
Toyota Siennas are great vehicles. No issues for a while but with constant wear and tear it needs to be taken for maintenance. Once maintenance is upheld and enough care is put into the vehicle, it will take care of you. I really didn't have issues with it until it was driven for some years.

My sienna is a dream with ample storage, sliding doors and a bonus eighth seat!
My Toyota sienna is a great fit for my family of 7. It handles smoothly, gets fairly good gas mileage, and has great leg room! It has storage to spare with and without the back seats which are easy to put down or remove. Keyless entry and movable bucket seats allow my kids to enter the vehicle on their own. The removable 8th seat means I can transport the occasional extra passenger. It has it is own storage compartment and is easy to install.

My Toyota drives so smoothly and I love the DVD player.
Reliable, comfortable has Bluetooth and navigation as well as DVD player for kids in the back. When e-brake is on the front screen will turn on for driver and passenger to see/work. It has outlets for headphones to be plugged in and many cup holders. I have 7 seats 2 captain I bench in the back. Car seat latches in the seats and behind. Middle seats can be removed and moved around and back seats fold back into the trunk space. Huge trunk. I got a single and double stroller back there. Travels really smooth and quiet. Cruise control options and buttons on the steering wheel to control voice activation/radio/Bluetooth. Automatic sliding doors are awesome with controls for the driver/passenger to open and shut automatically. I love my van and haven't had any issues with it.

I love my Toyota Sienna. It has so much room. I never have to worry about how much my family and I pack for our vacations. The way back seat folds flat and is as big as my husbands truck bed. We have even moved king size box springs in it. The captains chairs in the back come out and that provides even more room. The windows and large dashboard are so big and open... Toyota sienna with lots of lifestyle left.
It is a great minivan even though it is getting older. That is a nice color but it has to be dense and bruises. The automatic doors also do not work any longer so you have to open the manually. I don't really know what to say other than that it has a lot of miles but still has a lot of life in it.

Why our family chose a minivan.
We have little children so the Toyota sienna is an excellent option for us. The space for multiple car seats and massive trunk space is what sold it for us. Our previous car was a Nissan armada and it would have be extremely tight with all of the car seats and left no room for a double stroller. The automatic sliding doors are also an extreme plus; no more worrying about dinging other cars with heavy car doors swinging open.

There is a DVD player for my kids and they love that. They even have plugins where you can hook up a game console. It is the little things that make this van amazing. I love my Toyota sienna. We have gray leather interior which helps keep it clean with messy kids. The two front seats are heated. It has a DVD player and multi-disc CD changers. Sometimes the speakers can be a bit spotty and not come in very clear. When we open the sliding door behind the driver the lights don't always turn on. We have also had issues with the tires. I do have a few complaints'namely, the breaks have become quite run-down, and the back seats (which can be folded down for additional trunk space or pulled up to increase the amount of seating) are difficult to convert. Nonetheless, the car is very comfortable and spacious and easily holds all of the items and passengers that I need it to. The mirrors are easy to adjust, though they do not have a blind spot alert feature, so additional care must be taken while driving. We also have several drivers of very different heights in the family, and the driver's seat is easily adjustable to give all of them proper access to the steering wheel. The steering wheel also has the nice feature of a set of radio controls so that we can flip between stations without having to take our attention away from the road. I really appreciate this feature in particular, as it keeps me and my family safe. Though the car has received quite a few bumps over the past nine years'and sports a dent or two to prove it'the overall structural integrity has held up quite well. I never have reason to worry about my safety or the safety of my passengers while we are riding in this car.

2010 Toyota Sienna review
Don;t like the difficulty replacing the spark plugs, but the gas mileage on the highway is 31. Don't like the seats much.

The car needs more lighters and cup holder.
The only problem was that I had to change tires. Then put in alignment. And change both front brakes this year. The seat does not go back far enough for my liking. The Cruise control pops out of the handle of car. One of the lighters are not working so I can only change one device at a time.

Toyota sienna, safety, feel.
It's an old model, but it drives really well, and feels safe to drive. While smaller calls feel like they might get swept away, the control of the sienna is good. The seats are well-made, but there are no modern technologies on the vehicle. There are no rear cameras which is important for me.
