2011 Toyota Sienna Review: Long Lasting High Priced Van Owners Can Count On

Alex Showalter
Mar 22, 2022

The 2011 Sienna lasts over 300,000 miles with only minor engine sensor and sliding door issues. At $9,595 – 16,309 the van is expensive but worth it for the reliability.

The infotainment system is easy to use, the V6 engine offers good power and the seats are extremely comfortable.
dislikeFilled The Bad
There are a lot of plastic components in the cabin, the base 4-cylinder is weak and prices are higher than rivals.

Is the 2011 Toyota Sienna a Good Used Van?

  • Yes, 2011 is a good year. We have received a lot of positive owner reviews mentioning a roomy cabin, easy maneuverability, and long-lasting engines.
  • Reliability ratings are great. There are a similar number of complaints on the 2011 model compared to other years, but any model newer than 2009 is a great choice.
  • Performance is decent from the V6, but the 4-cylinder is underpowered.
  • The Sienna is a safe van earning 4 out of 5 stars in government crash tests and a Top Safety Pick Award.
  • Fuel economy is good at up to 20 MPG combined.

The Sienna is a safe and reliable minivan great for families.
The Sienna is a reliable, safe minivan. It has a lot of space inside both for passengers and for cargo. It gets reasonably good gas mileage, but tires tend to be expensive to replace.

They'll love it and wonder why they didn't already own a van.
I like the room. It is reliable and holds the family. It drives well and is comfortable. I do not have any complaints.

It is very dependable and great for a family.
I like my vehicle because it is dependable. We haven't had any major problems with it. It gets us where we need to be. Plus the inside is very forgiving with dirt and the messes that come along with kiddos. No complaints.

It's a keeper and I wouldn't trade it in.
I don't have any bad to say about it. It runs very well it's good on gas and it has enough power for me.

Low maintenance, reliable vehicle.
I have had no issues with the vehicle. It has just needed routine oil changes. It seats six comfortably. The gas mileage is pretty good. I would recommend this vehicle to friends and family. When I look at getting a new car I will look at Toyota's first as I feel they are very reliable.
accountCircle Lori C
The best thing about my car is that the sliding doors make it very easy to get kids in and out quickly.
I love that my minivan is spacious for both passengers and cargo. I love that it has been very dependable and reliable. When it is time for a new vehicle I would love to have a new Toyota Sienna.

The most important is that it is very comfortable for a family of 8.
I love the turning radius this van has. It seats 8 passengers and has lots of space in the inside. Great for traveling as well. This van is good on gas and better for long distance travel and comfort!

It is big enough to seat eight people comfortably.
I love my van because it seats 8 and has plenty of room for everyone. It drives smooth. It is reliable.

We bought 2011 Sienna and every year this car has the problem . Thought Toyota will be much better . Spend so much money in repairing this . Now the engine blew out.Not a reliable one at all

The transmission guy said the transmission is too small for that size vehicle
72000 miles and the transmission went out. 7 years old. I expected Toyota to be more reliable than that. No warning signs.

An oldie but a goodie family car.
This vehicle is very run down and old. It does have its perks however, it has a radio and a disk player. The best quality of the vehicle has to be it is DVD player where you can insert a disk and watch it. This makes for a very good family car that also can take you on long road trips from my experience.

It is very affordable because gas mileage and care has been a very minimum.
I like all the room and that it has room for 8 people. Gas mileage is fair and has been low maintenance in repairs and care.

Great family vehicle - seats 7 and holds all the pets.
Drives well. Seats many passengers. Room for a lot of cargo. Big windows. Lots of extras- heated seats, powered mirrors. Great power and pick up. Very good gas mileage. Has a roof rack. Easy to change oil. Roomy, fold down third seat. Easy to keep clean. Interior storage. Cup holders.

Good condition minivan for families.
It is very comfortable. Drives smooth. Holds large families. Easy to install car seats. DVD player very helpful for my small children. Cloth seats don't get too hot or cold depending on the weather. Radio easy to understand. AUX cord adaptable. Adjustable driver seat.
accountCircle Debbie O
The biggest thing people should know that it has issues that are costly to fix and are major things, like oils spewing all over the place.
The car is roomy and drives well. I don't lie the maintenance. We have had several things go bad that are expensive and exclusive to toyota

Last a long time and comfortable.
It is really good but can stain. It can last a long time. It can get a lot of miles and still run good. The seats are very comfortable. It smells nice. Doors open up smoothly. The windows are good and clear. Problems are it is not modern. A traditional vehicle. It will last you a really very long time though.

What Do Critics Say About the Sienna?

  • Consumer Reports finds the Sienna to be a comfortable and powerful van with very high owner satisfaction ratings.
  • Edmunds rates the Sienna 4.4/5 and likes the optional all-wheel-drive, but notes the cabin has a lot of cheap plastic parts.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Sienna a 4.4/5 liking the reclining comfortable seats, but it is more expensive than rivals.

What Common Problems Does the 2011 Toyota Sienna Have?

Problems with the Sienna are relatively minor, including a loss of power while driving, sliding door issues, and seat motors wearing out.

Owners mention a loss of power in the first 25,000 miles. The problem is usually caused by a failed airflow sensor, which costs around $200 to replace.

Malfunctioning sliding doors are another complaint at around 20,000 miles. There are several sources including cables, motors, and the door sliding out of the track. Repairing the door can cost $150 to $500 depending on the problem.

Worn-out seat controls are an issue showing up at around 55,000 miles. The switches and motors wear out as the van ages, and replacing them costs about $500.

There are 14 recalls, none of which are very serious, including drive shaft, seat heater wiring, air bags, and power sliding door.

How Long Will the 2011 Toyota Sienna Last?

A properly maintained 2011 Sienna will last around 300,000 miles, which is twice as long as competitors including the Grand Caravan. Maintenance costs are average for a van at $570 per year, according to Repair Pal.

As a Sienna reaches 100,000 miles owners should prepare to replace the air conditioning expansion valve for $900, wheel bearings costing $300, and axle shaft seals which cost $250.

accountCircle Jessica O

It has been very reliable thus far. No issues as of yet. Drives very smoothly and is easy to maneuver.

accountCircle Anna B

It has been pretty reliable for us. Had to replace the front and back breaks but it does have over 100,000 miles on it.

accountCircle Mariko S

Yes, I have never had any issues with reliability in this vehicle. Neither have I had any other issues.

accountCircle Alli L

It has been very reliable. We live where it snows and we have never had any problems on the roads. It has done amazing on many road trips. Very reliable car!

accountCircle Jared H

It is been really reliable. No big problems that would have costed me a lot. Any problems I have had were small and part of wear and tear of a car.

accountCircle Mari M

Yes it is very reliable and does not have any major problems. I am actually very good at maintaining the vehicle with scheduled maintenance.

accountCircle Deserae O

It has been very reliable, I have not had one single problem as of yet. But I haven't quite had the van a year yet.

accountCircle Helen M

I have had no reliability issues with my Sienna. There have been a few recalls on various parts (like the sliding door mechanism) but the dealership has honored all recalls with no problem.

How Much Is the 2011 Toyota Sienna Worth?

Blue book prices range from $9,595 – 16,309 making the Sienna more expensive than rival minivans including the Odyssey and Sedona. When new, the price range was $25,060 to $40,570. Depreciation is better than average, losing about 6% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Sienna?

There are five models available for the Sienna. Technology is okay since the van was redesigned for 2011, but there’s a brand new navigation system released in 2012 with Entune app connectivity.

Base is the entry-level model offering:

  • 17-Inch Alloy Wheels
  • Three Zone Climate Control
  • Cruise Control
  • 4-Speaker AM/FM/CD Stereo System With 3.5mm AUX Jack

LE is a step up and adds features including:

  • Power Sliding Doors
  • Heated Side Mirrors
  • 3.5-Inch Display With Rearview Camera
  • Upgraded 6-Speaker Stereo System With USB and Bluetooth Connectivity

SE is a popular choice, adding:

  • 19-Inch Alloy Wheels
  • Leather & Cloth Interior
  • Unique Front Bumper
  • Leather Steering Wheel

XLE offers some entry-level luxury with:

  • Leather Seating
  • Wood Interior Trim
  • Power Liftgate
  • Sunroof
  • Heated Front Seats

Limited is the flagship model and has:

  • 18-Inch Alloy Wheels
  • Keyless Ignition
  • Leather And Wood Steering Wheel
  • 10-Speaker JBL Stereo System
  • Second Row Captain’s Chairs

What Engines Come In the Sienna?

  • The base engine is a relatively weak 2.7L 4-cylinder making 187 horsepower.
  • An optional upgrade is the quick 3.5L V6 which has 265 horsepower and takes the van from 0-60 in 7.9 seconds.

What Colors Does the Sienna Come In?

How Big Is the Sienna?

The Toyota Sienna is average-sized for a minivan, similar to the Odyssey and Town & Country. Passenger room is very good throughout the cabin, fitting adults in all three rows with very comfortable seats.

Cargo space is very good with 39 cubic feet of room behind the third row, 87.1 behind the second, and a maximum of 150. The second row of seats does not fold down and has to be removed to use the full cargo area.

VehicleHistory Image

How Does the Sienna Compare to the Competition?

The Dodge Grand Caravan is a popular competitor at nearly $5,000 cheaper. Where the Dodge stands out is with a better seat storage system, but the Sienna lasts much longer. Overall, we recommend the Sienna, which is more reliable and affordable to own.

The Nissan Quest is another rival at $6,000 cheaper. Performance is a bit stronger in the Quest, but technology and features are better in the Sienna. We recommend the Sienna since they last longer with fewer mechanical problems.

Nothing new hear - what you expect is what you get.
It is reliable, is comfortable and seats 6 very comfortably with options to seat 8. Four car seats fit easily in this vehicle. It is very loud on the freeway. It is not particularly attractive, but it is useful for transporting kids. It is a care-free vehicle and practical. There are really no special features of this vehicle - it pretty much meets your standards for a minivan.

Super reliable. Very few mechanical issues. Have loved the dependability. I feel like basic maintenance is really the only thing I have had to keep up with and that would be a requirement for any vehicle I owned. Toyota to me stands out as a dependable and safe brand of vehicle.

I love my car. The way it drives. The way it glides on the road. I love the space it has. My kids love the digital TV in the back. It has to where u can control the temp in the back by itself. The only issues I have is the breaks wore down really fast the radio sounds like garbage. And I hate the color of the van.

Toyota sienna is spacious and efficient.
I love the sienna. Although I only have one child it gives the most space for when the mothers at the carpool for events and vacations. I have the full packaged dual control climate system that allows for adjustments in the back as well. I hope for the future a minivan could be offered in more stylish options like leather seats, this would make it so much easier for me to clean up after my toddler and his cousins.

Why you should get an Toyota sienna.
The inside of the vehicle is nice and spacious. It is nice and easy to keep clean. The ride is smooth, easy to break, and a great car for everyday use. The perfect car to fit a family of seven. It takes about 35-45 dollars depending on the state you live. Overall it a great and affordable car.

Good overall vehicle, highly recommended.
Grey Toyota sienna, lots of trunk space, seats 8 people, but the extra seat can be taken in and out easily, so it is small and not very comfortable. The engine runs surprisingly well and has very good acceleration especially for a larger vehicle. This car is up to about 150,000 miles and still runs smoothly without problems. We have taken it on many vacations and it has plenty of storage space for lots of stuff. It has never had any major problems. It is a very reliable vehicle and has done quite a bit of off roading for a vehicle not intended for that use. It is comfortable and comfortably fits seven passengers. The drivers seat has good situated and sits well and can be adjusted easily. There is plenty of leg room for all passengers in the vehicle. Overall it is a very good car and I would recommend it to anyone.

Have had no issues to date. Regular maintenance and cleaning has been more than enough to keep it running perfectly. Love being able to quickly stow away the third row when extra space is needed and have plenty of space for passengers of any size when the third row is required. Compared to our previous SUV getting kids in and out is a breeze and it is awesome having enough space for groceries and any other normal cargo even with the third row installed.

The sienna is a Nice spacious vehicle. We have had some electrical issues. The button to operate the passenger sliding door doesn't work anymore. Mechanically it's been a good vehicle. Toyota Sienna: a nice family-friendly vehicle
The Toyota Sienna is a comfortable and useful family vehicle. I love how much space it has for both passengers and storage. It rides smoothly and having the sliding doors is of course incredibly helpful with children. It has been very reliable and we have never had any problems besides regular maintenance. It is easy to use car seats with, especially in the captain's chairs. I also love the removable extra seat that can be put in between the captains chairs. My only complaint is that with this model year the technology is getting outdated. The backup camera is not very good and the Bluetooth sometimes has problems connecting.

My Toyota sienna has been a dependable vehicle for my family. My father in law bought it new and drove it as a seasonal vehicle and we bought it from him when he couldn't drive anymore. We haven't had any issues with the van, other than routine maintenance. We've driven it on many family vacations and we’ve been very pleased with its comfort and reliability. The Toyota Sienna is a fantastic family vehicle.
Our family has been very pleased with our Toyota Sienna. We have had a couple of recall items on the van, but other than the recalls we have had no problems. Our van has been on several family vacations and it hold all four of our family members and also room for our two dogs and their cages. There is plenty of cargo area for suitcases and we also hang a bar up for hanging up our clothing. The interior of the van has held up very well and still looks pretty new. The exterior color is silver and it also looks new and does not show dirt, so car washes have been minimal. The gas mileage is great and we have a local mechanic service our vehicle to keep the costs low for repairs.

It has way over 100,000 miles and no signs of slowing down! Love it!
I like the power in the engine, but there are some definite blind spots that you need to be aware of and check more than once. I really like how much room it has, and that it's a Toyota so it's been extremely reliable, but the back captains chairs are pretty difficult to get out of the car. The middle seat that connects the captains chairs if necessary is genius, and we've used it many times. It's great we can put it away if necessary too. The van has a better turning radius than my husbands subaru, which is pretty funny!

We really miss the speedometer and dashboard from our older 2008 sienna, but this van has served us well. We have few problems, just things like needing a new battery or tires. It gets good gas mileage, but road noise can be a little much. That may just be the tires we picked, and also due to the speakers needing to be replaced.

Love my minivan, it provides lots of space for hauling stuff and groceries and people. I like sitting up high, not low like a sedan. I also like its size as I feel safer than driving a small car. We love it for a family of 5! I should've got a minivan sooner! I never thought I would own one but so glad we bought a used one! Lots of room and very comfortable. The kids love the DVD feature! I really wish it had the automatic hatch but love the sliding side doors! It's a very smooth ride! It can get up and go when needed!

Honesty I feel like I can pretty much do anything with it!
Removable 2 row middle seat, great for just my 3 kids or pop it in and they each can fit a friend in! Plenty of storage and room. Great gas mileage.

Convenient and roomy. Minivans are great family cars.
A lot of recalls have been made on the vehicle. I have had the car for a long time and my children are getting older. I no longer feel like I need a minivan. It is a great car for families. Convenient and roomy. 8 passengers so it fits kids and friends.
