Alex Showalter
Aug 17, 2023

The 2018 Toyota Sienna lasts around 300,000 miles with relatively minor brake wear and fuel economy issues reported. At $23,850 to $42,550, it’s pricey, but worth the money for an extremely safe and long-lasting minivan.

The V6 engine is very powerful for a minivan, there’s more standard safety technology than the competition and there’s a ton of passenger room.
dislikeFilled The Bad
The steering feels vague, the entry-level interior is basic and the stereo system has basic features.

Family friendly and plenty of space for everything you need.
Love the smooth ride and how easy it is to put kids in their car seats and take them out. So many safety features make you feel safe on the road. Children love the spacious vehicle. The space makes traveling on vacation easy. Plenty of legroom. Heated seats during the winter are also a huge plus.

I LOVE MY VAN!! It has plenty of room for the family to functions as it needs to. We got the AWD so we could have the flat tire feature. (meaning, if the tire goes flat, I have 100 miles to get it replaced! No road noise, which was our biggest complaint with the Odyssey.
Its extremely Reliable! We have had 2 now and have had no issues with either! Great cars!

Car is very comfortable for people who works or travel a lot.
The car is really made to enjoy and travel easily to any place where people want to go because car itself is very comfortable and has 7 seats plus it is automatic version. I really recommend people buying this type of car because it makes people's life's easy and add more joy.

Reliability is the most important thing.
It is brand new. It is a pretty blue color. It is reliable. I do not like that it makes a loud muffler noise when backing up.

We love our vehicle... Toyota sienna.
My wife is in a wheelchair and our Toyota has plenty of room to accommodate her. We also have leather seats and premium sound system. I am very pleased with our purchase. Our car is 2-years old and we have not had any issues with servicing our vehicle.

Best van for my family: comfortably and conveniently accommodates my family of 6
This is the best car I have ever owned. Very convenient and reliable. Fits my entire family of 6 comfortably. Love the keyless entry, automatic doors and folding seats. The stereo automatically connects to my phone so I can listen to my podcasts and talk hands free. It even has wifi for the kids to connect their devices to. As a mom, this is my dream car.

It's a good car for big families.
It performs well for the most part but sometimes I have problems with the touch screen. Sp for example it might freeze. Also sometimes the door won't close automatically. Otherwise the car is fine and it's good for people with big families since there's so much room. Also if you put the seats in the back down you have enough room for like a sofa.

Toyota sienna - not all that!
This is a great van with lots of nice features. It does ride a little rough compared to my last sienna. I love the sleek look and the sunroof and leather seats! I wish the Bluetooth phone system worked better - it always seems to ask to update and sometimes dials the wrong number when I say something simple like 'call home'.

Overall it's a good vehicle. Love the automatic sliding doors and 3rd row seating. Not a very powerful vehicle though, doesn't have pickup on hills and takes a while to speed up.

The Spacious Sienna is Sized Just Right for the Family!
I have two kids and I really like the Sienna. It is spacious which allows me to move around and handle issues. It is a comfortable ride and has a lot of storage space. We haven't had any issues with it. I just wish the lower models would come equipped with remote start because the aftermarket installs don't work as good.

2018 white Toyota sienna se wishlist.
It is alright and does decent on fuel for mostly city driving. The comfort of the two front seats are less than desirable. There could be more lighting in the rear storage area. The three other things on my wishlist would be adjustable pedals, power sources that stay on when the engine is off and the ability to use both sets of keys at the same time I.E. Leave it running but lock it with the second key for situations like running into gas station when the kids are along.

What Do Critics Say About the Toyota Sienna?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2018 Toyota Sienna is a rational minivan with a long list of strong suits, and it earns very high owner satisfaction scores as it ages.
  • Edmunds rates the 2018 Sienna at 4.1/5, enjoying the strong V6 engine, but doesn’t like that the second row seats are bulky and awkward to remove.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Sienna a 4.4/5, praising the outstanding reliability ratings as it ages, but owners don’t like the lack of a hybrid option.

What Common Problems Does the 2018 Toyota Sienna Have?

Common problems found on the 2018 Toyota Sienna include excessive brake wear, poor gas mileage, along with burnt out lights. Overall, these problems are minor compared to other minivans on the market, leading to low repair costs as the Sienna ages.

Excessive brake wear is the most widespread problem on the 2018 Sienna, showing up between 15,000 and 20,000 miles. The front brakes tend to wear out quickly due to the weight of the van when it’s fully loaded with people and cargo. Replacing the front brake pads costs around $150, while a set of rotors is an additional $300 if they have been damaged.

Poor gas mileage is another complaint from some 2018 Sienna owners at around 1,500 miles. There are software updates available for the main engine control unit which improves fuel economy. Most dealerships are willing to install these updates for free, while others charge around $50. Toyota is also known for having worse fuel economy compared to other brands to protect engine components.

Burnt out lights have also been reported by some Sienna owners at roughly 20,000 miles. The tail lights and reverse lights are the quickest to burn out. Replacing the bulbs is fairly easy to do at home and costs under $20.

There are seven recalls on the 2018 Toyota Sienna, which is more than some other minivans from the same year. The most serious recalls cover the fuel pump, which may fail. Toyota will replace the fuel pump in affected models for free. Other recalls cover the brake lines along with the steering shaft extension, both of which Toyota will also fix for free.

How Long Will the 2018 Toyota Sienna Last?

A well-maintained 2018 Toyota Sienna can last around 300,000 miles, which is slightly longer than other popular minivans like the Honda Odyssey. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other minivans according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $534 per year.

As a used 2018 Toyota Sienna reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the starter relay for $120, tie rods costing $250, as well as the trailing arm which costs around $450.

accountCircle Laura B

Very reliable. Other than the regular maintenance we haven't had to take the vehicle into the shop for anything. The only problem we have had since we got it was the Bluetooth speaker does not work. Calls connect to the car and we can hear the caller but they cannot hear us. We haven't been able to troubleshoot this issue ourselves.

Yes, it is very reliable. Haven't experienced any problems since we got it. Our kids love it. It's perfect for our family.

accountCircle Jessica H

So far it has been a really reliable car. We haven't had and problems and it is nice to drive a car without worrying if it is going to break down or not.

accountCircle Susan B

Very reliable - I have had it about a year and never had any problems with it. It is very solid, and unfortunately I had a fender bender about 2 months ago, and happily was able to drive away with no problems at all.

accountCircle Erica V

Yes, it is reliable. It does not have any problems. My husband does not like the transmission on it and the way it responds on acceleration

accountCircle Richard M

We have not had any problems with the van and recently took it on a road trip to the mountains! Very reliable!

accountCircle Maddie S

It is reliable but we have had some problems with the stripping around the front windows coming off and the van denting easily

Entertainment technology is great, offering a standard 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity. Optional upgrades include a more powerful JBL stereo system.

Standard safety features are better than most other vans with:

  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane keep assist
  • Adaptive cruise control

  • Automatic high beams
  • Rearview camera

Optional driver assistance features include:

What Engines Come In the Toyota Sienna?

The 2018 Toyota Sienna is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine, generating a robust 296 horsepower at up to 22 MPG. It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that delivers smooth and efficient shifting. Regarding speed, the 2018 Sienna can accelerate from 0-60 mph in around 7 seconds, providing a quick acceleration for a minivan.

What Colors Does the Toyota Sienna Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Toyota Sienna?

The 2018 Toyota Sienna is renowned for its comfortable and spacious interior, designed to provide a pleasant ride for both short and long journeys. It seats seven to eight passengers depending on the configuration, with each passenger given ample space. Front-row seats are designed with long road trips in mind, offering excellent support and comfort with plenty of headroom and legroom. Second-row passengers will also appreciate the abundance of space, even on extended trips. The third row, while slightly less roomy, is still considered more comfortable than most competitors, particularly for children or smaller adults.

The Sienna’s ride quality also contributes to its overall comfort. It’s known for its smooth and quiet ride, absorbing most road imperfections with ease and providing a serene environment inside the cabin. The well-tuned suspension system helps to make sure that passengers feel minimal bumps or jostling, even on less-than-perfect road surfaces.

Finally, the Sienna’s well-organized interior layout is driver-friendly, with easily accessible controls and good outward visibility, adding to the ease and comfort of driving. The 2018 Toyota Sienna’s focus on comfort makes it an excellent choice for families or anyone who spends a good amount of time on the road.

How Much Storage Space Does the Toyota Sienna Have?

The 2018 Toyota Sienna, a vehicle known for its spacious interior and practicality, offers substantial storage space that can cater to various needs. The cargo volume varies depending on the number of seats in use. With all seats in position, the Sienna offers a generous 39.1 cubic feet of space behind the third row. This is enough to accommodate items such as a full set of golf clubs, multiple large suitcases, or a week’s worth of groceries for a large family.

When you need more space, the Sienna’s flexible seating arrangement comes into play. By folding down the third-row seats, cargo space expands significantly to 87.1 cubic feet. This is large enough to hold bulky items like a bicycle, a large flat-screen TV, or even a small kayak.

For maximum cargo space, folding down both the second and third-row seats gives you a cavernous 150 cubic feet. This makes the Sienna almost as roomy as a small moving van. In this configuration, you could easily fit items such as several large pieces of furniture, a stack of plywood, or even a queen-size mattress.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The third generation of the Toyota Sienna was introduced for the 2011 model year, and replaced by the fourth generation in 2021.

2015: Improved suspension, minor exterior styling changes, and some upgraded interior materials.

2016: Siri Eyes Free added to all models in the Sienna lineup.

2017: Improvements to the V6 engine and a new 8-speed automatic transmission.

2018: Toyota Safety Sense technology is now standard on all models, and rear USB ports added.

2019: Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa added to all models.

2020: New Nightshade edition offered with black exterior trim.

2021: Fully redesigned for the fourth generation with new styling, interior, and engine choices.

How Does the Toyota Sienna Compare to the Competition?

The 2018 Toyota Sienna is a great minivan since it offers a ton of standard safety features, a strong engine, and excellent long-term reliability ratings as it ages.

The Honda Odyssey is a popular competitor available for around $1,500 less. Entertainment technology is slightly better in the Honda Odyssey, while the Toyota Sienna offers a more comfortable interior. We recommend the Toyota Sienna since it lasts slightly longer, although both are excellent minivans making them worth a test drive to see which you prefer.

The Chrysler Pacifica is another minivan which can be found for about $3,000 less. Interior materials are more luxurious in the Chrysler Pacifica, while the Toyota Sienna has lower ownership costs as it ages. We recommend the Toyota Sienna since it’s a longer-lasting choice with fewer mechanical problems as they age.

It is a classy car with comfortable seats with different features, such as the captain seats in the rear, that are sure to make you fall in love with the car and its comfort.
The seats in the rear are captain/pilot chairs and allow for the person to enjoy long car rides in comfort. However, the extension often gets stuck on the floor mats of the car. I would also suggest adding chair warmers to the rear seats.

Toyota Sienna, a car with lots of space and great performance.
My Toyota Sienna is great. When the third seat is down it provides an enormous amount of space. I can carry all my woodworking materials plus the tools I need, I have the second row with captains chairs, There is so much space that all our friends rave about it! One of the main features I truly appreciate is that the car comes with a complete set of floor mats. Great protection for when my grand kids drop or spill something, which is also pretty regular. I purchased the light gray color finish. This finish hides dirt! Whereas most of the other finished have more class this is great for going up dirt roads and not seeing so much dirt. At first I did not believe that this was true about the color, but I can attest to that fact, also like the fact that the tires are so big that I can get into some 'unusual spaces.' I also greatly enjoy the sound system. I drive a great deal of distance and this sound system is fantastic. The layout of the dashboard is also a great design. My wife really enjoys all the room on the passenger side. Also that the seat goes back so far for her afternoon nap. I am impressed with the design of this car. And it comes with all the backing of the Toyota company. Truly one of the best cars I have owned.

The one thing I like most about this car is its comfort. All seven passengers can sit comfortably and it is perfect for road trips and long drives. Another good thing about it is the amount of trunk space it has. The seats in the back can fold down and the van can fit a lot of stuff which is perfect for moving. Need a cell phone holder built in.
Would like 2nd row seats that fold into floor instead of physically having to remove. I enjoy the space, seats are comfortable, handling is good, would like more road clearance (snow/slush build up). Do not really use my sunroof. The cup holders are good, but there needs to be a built in place to put your hands free cell phone since there is limited available space on the dash.

Its performance is 100 percent accurate, it is reliable and never gave any sort of trouble during or of the journey. This is a great van. I have a handicap-ramp installed. I recently had issues with the side door and ramp not deploying. After a number of trips to the dealer I learned these vans are known for having battery drain issues. Since installing a new battery I have had no more problems. No problems so far, we love our sienna! Plenty of room for our family of 5, and we especially love the stow and go trunk. The seats are easy to take in and out, and we also love the navigation and system that detects when you are getting too close to the car in front of you. We opted for leather seats, so we got the seat warmers (also made it easier to clean), and my kids appreciate the shades on the backseat windows!

It has the most storage over all in It's class.
I love the amount of storage. My children enjoy the entertainment package. The safety features are great.

I love it!! Amazing and comfortable
I love my Toyota Sienna. It is roomy even when every seat in the van is filled (hold 8 people). Mine is the LXE (the loaded one) and it has a DVD/blu player for the kids. The safety features are amazing and it has actually prevented me from rear ending someone before. I love it

Big, comfy machine that gets us where we are going.
We love the car. It is roomy, kids can watch movies on long trips with a nice big screen. The vehicle drives smooth and gets good gas mileage. The safety features make us feel at ease while going on long trips. The backup camera on this car is one of my complaints. The picture is dark and warped compared to older models. We've had it looked at a lot and we're told that is the way it is supposed to be. The map system also always defaults to highway view regardless of what view we prefer... That is annoying as it always has to be changed while driving on the highway which is dangerous.

Car is very comfortable for people who works or travel a lot.
The car is really made to enjoy and travel easily to any place where people want to go because car itself is very comfortable and has 7 seats plus it is automatic version. I really recommend people buying this type of car because it makes people's life's easy and add more joy.

It has side curtain airbags that I feel provide extra protection for my family.
I love my Bluetooth, navigation and sunroof and dvd player. I do not like the the lights on the van however. My van has made a fun sound since purchasing that the dealership cannot find anything wrong, the noise is a bit annoying.

Great family vehicle all around.
We have always loved Toyotas. We had a Camry prior to the sienna. We have 3 kids all in car seats and everyone fits with room for all the stuff you need to go anywhere. The driver's seat is very comfortable. The fuel economy is good. The car is just great all around.

The van is amazing to travel with. And has a lot of space.
My car is amazing because it is reliable when I need it and it has never broke down and I have a good time riding in it with my children and family! We love taking trips to new places in our car to! Try a Toyota van because it is really amazing and basically can take it to travel with you! This Toyota van is not that expensive to so you can have a great time with you family. It's good to have a van if you have a big family and you have so much space in the back to.

Sienna extras that can make a mom's day.
The sienna drives smoothly. It has four captain chairs and a bench seat. The bench seat folds into the floor if you need more space. I am able to carry a wheelchair and groceries in the back without putting the seats down. The dash has both cigarette plug in and USB plug ins and the rear of the vehicle also has USB plugins which is very popular with my teens. The center console in the front of the vehicle is quite deep and I am able to store my purse in there when out hiking. Above the rearview mirror, on the roof of the car is a set of buttons for the sliding doors and moonroof. Also up there is a small mirror that folds down so that you can see the rear seats. It is very helpful for keeping an eye on my seizure prone child. Another favorite feature is the displays can be customized. I can set one page to display the current speed of any road I am on as well as the speed I am currently traveling. Very helpful with teens. The things I do not like are the keyless feature- I really prefer an actual key! And I do not like the lane assist. I have it turned off. The roads I drive on have a lot of construction going on and there are several places with lane shifts and the steering wheel would try to take over and put the car back to where it thought I should be. It is just a matter of pushing a toggle to turn off the lane assist, which is great. Overall I am quite pleased with my sienna.

Great buy for any mother or family!
I love how everything in this car is automatic. The trunk, the side doors, the mirrors, the seats... Everything. I love the in car screen system, it easy pairs to my phone and allows me to answer calls or send texts just by using my voice. It has an excellent blind spot alert so I always feel safe in my vehicle.

Has automatic back doors and satellite radio option.
Fits family of 6 comfortably, large trunk space, drives smoothly. Wide aisles easy to get kids in and out of car; plenty of legroom. Removable middle seat to make it 8 passenger vehicle. Automatic doors for easy access. Doors get squeaky every now and then and need to be oiled. Power seats go up and down to make it easy to drive for shorter people.

Economic and spacious family car
I like the space it offers and the extra 8th seat option. I don't like that it takes more gas than a regular suv.

Great road trip van for the family.
The vehicle rides nicely. Plenty of room for the kids. Plenty of room for storage to go on road trips. Happy that we chose the limited version with leather seats and power mirror options as well as heated seats and steering wheel. We have the double sunroof which makes the van feel nice and open.

The back trunk is very deep.
Very good with driving smooth. I absolutely love the color. It fits a lot of people. There’s three rolls in it. Two in the front three in the middle and four in the back. The brakes is very good the break is very good and overall it is just a very nice car. It also has sliding doors on the side and the back windows can pop open for the summer time.

Great value for the money.
We love our sienna! The all wheel drive is great for PNW winters. The space and sliding doors are ideal for life with small kids. We also love leather seats and sun shades in the back for kids. We do wish this car had apple play and that the main dashboard was a little more intuitive. Other than that this van is the best in its class!
