The 2014 Toyota Tacoma lasts around 350,000 miles with only minor interior and oil consumption issues. At $14,375 to $23,600, it’s expensive, but worth it for the best compact truck on the market.

Power is great from the available V6 engine, there’s a standard touchscreen stereo system and the Tacoma excels in off-road environments.
dislikeFilled The Bad
Interior materials are not as nice as other trucks, the suspension is stiff on bumpy roads and the engines are noisy.

Reliable Toyota Tacoma prerunner.
I love the functionality, style, and most importantly, the reliability of my Toyota Tacoma. It rides well, handles well, and gets good mileage for a truck. I have the prerunner with access cab. The extra storage and jump seats are very useful. The instrument package and sound system is great.

2014 Toyota Tacoma 4 cylinder, a pretty decent car.
This car is overall a very good car to drive. So far I've had no problems with it, the only thing is that the car doesn't do the best going uphill so if you live in an area that has lots of hills to climb, I don't recommend it because the 4 cylinder isn't enough to keep a constant speed uphill. Overall though it's an awesome car and if you don't mind the extra tear on the transmission because of the uphill problem, then it's good.

Atrac feature on the TRD off-road package is amazing while driving through sand.
Amazing performance but doesn't have any luxury features. Great truck for off road, fishing, hunting and camping. I have not had any mechanical issues since purchase. I plan to own this vehicle until it is no longer driveable. Overall I am extremely happy with the truck.

Tacoma 4x4 off road is awesome!
It's a great truck. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable vehicle. It handles great in the snow or any kind of inclement weather. It's rugged and handles well. Spacious and drives fairly well, sometimes rides rough depending on the road. The off road package is great.

The truck looks great with the off road tires.
Car is very reliable. There are no issues at all. We have had this car for almost 5 years. It runs well and we maintain it every time it is due for maintenance. It has great stability and runs well on gas, There are really no complaints about this car.

Check engine lights and trac control lights continue to come on,get below half tank of gas comes on, the transmission shifts are really rough going down hill, I complained 1st month after buying was told it was normal, hate my truck, taking it in again next week to get worked on,if wasn't paid for I would give it back

I love the plug in that is located in the bed of the truck.
It's a good vehicle but I am having issues with the wiring and things not working, as a newer vehicle I wouldn't expect these kinds of issues.

Our Toyota runs well in any weather too
I like my Toyota Tacoma, it runs smoothly, is realistic, reliable, performance is good as we usually go to a city for trips to get away from work and we drive 3 hours to get there, It doesn't give us any problems so far and we have been there about 7 times and the fuel works great, pump it once and it drives you from and to home. Great for small children as well. Fits everyone so well

Silver Toyota Tacoma 2014.
I am pretty impressed when we got the car drove from Georgia to Michigan and didn't have any problem, we have my husband's motorcycle with us and it worked great because of the cargo bed. It is a good car but we have a newborn and my husband is 6'3 so we do not have too much room now.

It is sturdy, reliable, and a good truck.
The cab is a full cab and a pretty decent amount of space for a truck. I have not had any issues with the truck and I have had it for 5 years. The only thing that I do not like about it is that it is not good on gas at all. It takes a full tank to go 230 miles.

The Toyota prerunner looks fantastic!
The truck has very good reliability and the exterior aesthetics is great. V6 engine has plenty of power. The main problem is it is a very small interior and not very comfortable. Also the steering column does not feel very stable and shakes. The bed has generous space. Overall very happy with the truck.

What Common Problems Does the 2014 Toyota Tacoma Have?

Common problems found on the 2014 Toyota Tacoma include worn-out cloth seats, excessive oil consumption, as well as broken transmission sensors. Overall, these problems are minor compared to other trucks with lower repair costs as well.

Worn-out cloth seats are a complaint from some owners at around 30,000 miles. The base cloth seats wear out quicker than in other trucks, especially on the left side of the driver’s seat, which gets extra wear. Replacing the cloth on the seat base costs about $250 to $500 depending on local labor rates.

Excessive oil consumption is another issue mentioned by some owners at roughly 40,000 miles. Toyota engines are known to use more oil than other trucks. A lot of owners simply check the oil regularly, adding oil as needed. Others have chosen to replace some gaskets for around $500.

A broken transmission sensor shows up on some Tacoma models at around 55,000 miles. Improper shifting between gears, or cruise control failing are both signs of a broken transmission sensor. Replacing the transmission sensor fixes the problem, costing around $550.

There are 4 recalls on the Tacoma, which is better than other trucks from 2014. The most serious recall only affects 3,795 trucks and covers the valve springs in the engine. Toyota will change out the valve springs for free. Other recalls include incorrect labels along with the hood scoop.

How Long Will the 2014 Toyota Tacoma Last?

A well-maintained 2014 Toyota Tacoma should last over 350,000 miles, which is much longer than other small truck competitors like the Nissan Frontier. Regular annual maintenance costs are lower than average, according to data from Repair Pal, at $479 per year.

Since nearly all used 2014 Tacoma models will have over 100.000 miles, buyers should be prepared to replace the transfer case oil seal for $425, the coolant temperature sensor costing $400, and the hood latch, which costs around $120.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is great in the 2014 Tacoma compared to other trucks with a standard 6.1-inch touchscreen stereo system along with Bluetooth connectivity. Safety technology is average, there’s an optional rearview camera.

Is the 2014 Toyota Tacoma a Good Value?

Yes, the 2014 Tacoma is a great value since it’s so dependable. Blue book prices range from $14,375 to $23,600, making it similar in price to the Honda Ridgeline or Nissan Frontier. When new, the price range was $19,025 to $28,385. Depreciation is better than average, only losing about 5% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Toyota Tacoma?

The cabin in the 2014 Toyota Tacoma not as comfortable as in larger trucks. There are three cabin configurations including a 2-door regular cab, 4-door extended cab, as well as the larger 4-door Crew Cab. Seating is decent, offering good support, but the entry-level cloth wears down quickly.

Passenger room is worse than other small trucks with limited legroom in the backseats, even in the 4-door Crew Cab model.

How Much Storage Space Does the Toyota Tacoma Have?

There are two bed lengths offered on the 2014 Toyota Tacoma including a 5-foot short bed as well as a longer 6-foot-1-inch bed.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The second generation of the Toyota Tacoma was launched in 2005, and replaced by the third generation in 2016.

2012: Minor exterior styling updates along with a new stereo system.

2013: New luxurious limited package added.

2014: X-Runner model discontinued, upgraded stereo system.

2015: Regular cab discontinued, TRD Pro package added.

2016: Fully redesigned for the third generation with new interior, exterior, and technology.

2017: TRD Pro model added, power sliding rear window.

2018: Standard Toyota Safety Sense technology, manual transmission discontinued for 4-cylinder engine.

How Does the Toyota Tacoma Compare to the Competition?

The Toyota Tacoma is the best compact truck available from 2014. A combination of extremely reliable engines, great off road capabilities, and good technology make it a great choice for shoppers.

The Nissan Frontier is another small truck which is about $2,500 cheaper. Passenger room is a bit better in the backseats of the Nissan Frontier, whereas the Toyota Tacoma has a more powerful engine. We recommend the Toyota Tacoma since they have better long-term reliability ratings.

The Honda Ridgeline is another competitor, which costs around $6,000 more. Where the Honda Ridgeline stands out is with a more comfortable car-like driving experience, however, the Toyota Tacoma does better off-road. We recommend the Toyota Tacoma since it’s a more capable truck, while the Honda Ridgeline is more like an SUV with a bed.

You get what you pay for and with this truck that is a good thing.
Toyota is a very reliable vehicle. I enjoy driving it, and it has a great warranty. They tend to hold value and last a long time. A little more on the expensive side, but I find it to be worth it in the long run. This is my second Toyota I have owned and have been happy both times.

My dream car: the Toyota Tacoma.
It has no problems, and drives flawlessly. It is even pretty decent on gasoline. I have only had it for about six months, and I have already put nearly 4,000 miles on it, including on some off-road track. The inside is comfortable enough to carry up to four passengers and plenty of cargo in the cab and in the bed. Perhaps my favorite feature is the extra hidden storage compartments.

If you want a truck that is a truck and not a passenger vehicle this is for you.
No problems do the usual maintenance. We actually use the truck as a truck. Our house is heated with wood and we use it to haul pallets. Live in Alaska and the four wheel drive is great on the ice (you drive on more ice up here than snow). Put a headache bar in the back to keep the pallets from going through the window.

My Tacoma is the very best pick up I have ever owned thus far. Toyota has not changed the design of the Tacoma's chassis since the early 90's. What does that tell you? Tacoma good. Need more vroom. More windshield wipes.
I love it overall. It drives well and is very reliable. I wish I had bought one with a larger engine because it does not do well on hills or have great acceleration. The other issue I have is one that is small but drives me crazy. The windshield wiper settings on it are not good at all. There are only a couple of settings and none of them are slower settings. But aside from those two issues I really enjoy my Tacoma.

I bought my truck brand new in 2013. It is been one of the best investments I have ever made. It is the perfect size truck for me. Not too big or too small. It has the capacity to tow small travel trailers and/or a boat if needed. I love the look of the truck, always have. To be honest it is my dream vehicle and I think I will always own a Tacoma from here on out. The only thing that I would say needs work is the way it drives. It can be quite bumpy as a passenger. I would totally buy this truck again!
I bought a 2014 Toyota Tacoma and I am in love it gets great gas mileage. And has the perfects amount of off-roading that my family needs.

It has a big gas tank and uses a lot of gas
It is a very very durable truck. It never has any issues but it does take a lot of gas

Reliability of the Toyota brand.
My Tacoma is reliable so far. It is get good gas mileage as far as pickups go. We shopped for a long time and where happy with the features that it offered. The price was more than other small pickups in its class. We have had Toyota’s in the past and we're happy with the reliability of this brand.

Absolutely love my Toyota Tacoma!
I love my Toyota Tacoma. I have had it for 6 years now and it still drives like new. I have not had to do any major repairs or undue work. The only thing that I think I could criticize it for is it is ability to connect through Bluetooth. It just seems 'glitchy' from time to time, losing the connection or taking an annoyingly long time for the device to register.

Toyota Tacoma review 2014.
Sometimes my truck engine lights will come on but I have had it checked & no issues, the oil light will come on as well, but still no issues whatsoever, the tires seem to go fast, I believe I am on my second set in less than 1 year. Traction is not the greatest either.
