Jan 5, 2023

The 2018 Toyota Tundra lasts around 350,000 miles with some minor brake sensor and dash rattling issues reported. At $31,102 to $50,539, it’s expensive, but worth it for one of the most reliable trucks with low long-term ownership costs.

So much room in cab for everyday and vacation travel
I love this vehicle! There is so much space in the cab for 5 to sit very comfortably with additional leg space. The MPG are great considering that it is a big truck.

Great truck very smooth ride. Also towing capacity is amazing. I tow with it a lot. Could use more cup holders. Makes I turs easy. This truck is very easy to handle. The air conditioning works great gets cold right away. All in all this is a really great truck.

Love it
I have an 18 Limited Crewmax with limited premium package. Has everything the Platinum does except cooled seats and power folding mirrors. Rides awesome no rattles and the back seat is huge. The JBL Premium Audio thumps pretty good. Overall impression is it is a very attractive, comfortable Nd powerful truck. Bought it late in 18 so only have 3000 miles so far. Highly recommended!!

My toyota tundra is a work horse ready for anything with it's 5.7 Liter v8 engine at a better price than competitors with the same great looks and practical arrangements
Toyota Tundra has for me been one of the most reliable yet comfortable trucks on the market available due to the sheer numbers on value retention and the visual sleekness to the style and body of truck

Toyota Tundra is exactly what I was looking for.
I just bought my new Toyota Tundra and I really have not found anything wrong with it. It is exactly what I was looking for. I had a Tacoma before and loved it but needed more towing power.

Toyota tundra radar problems.
I have had a problem with a radar which controls the cruise control and the crash avoidance system. I have had to take it back 3 different times the last time they were placed the whole system. Other than that I have had no troubles and I love the truck.

Review of flaws of a 2018 Toyota tundra limited edition with four wheel drive
Feels cheaply built. Power is not so great. Ceiling started falling down on me. Comes very bare bones without new technology. Truck design is outdated and has not been modified in about 10 years. Bed scratches real easy and needed to get it rhino lined almost right after purchase

No seat adjustment if you have side air bags
We were shocked to find out, after we bought the 2018 Tundra, that neither the driver seat nor the passenger seat adjusted up, down, or forward....no controls there at all. In fact, none of the Tundras on the lot had adjustable seats. The side air bag was in the way for each. Now, this is a major problem, costing $$ to correct. Yes, we should have had her drive it before the purchase. We like the truck otherwise...

What Do Critics Say About the Toyota Tundra?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2018 Toyota Tundra is a strong full size truck compared to American competitors, with very high owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Tundra at 4.1/5, praising the standard safety features, but doesn’t like the poor fuel economy.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Tundra a 4.5/5, enjoying the outstanding reliability ratings, but owners don’t like the lower towing capacity.

What Common Problems Does the 2018 Toyota Tundra Have?

Common problems found on the 2018 Toyota Tundra include the brake system warning light, rattling noises from the dash, as well as bubbling paint. Overall, these problems are fairly minor compared to other full size trucks, leading to lower repair costs as it ages as well.

A brake system warning light is the most widespread complaint from 2018 Toyota Tundra owners at around 10,000 miles. The light will turn on when the pads start to wear down. If you use your truck to tow or haul lots of weight then the brakes will wear down faster. Replacing the pads costs around $450, while a new set of rotors is around $600.

Rattling noises from the dash also show up on some 2018 Tundra models in the first 5,000 miles. Usually, noises in the dash are a sign of a loose component which lets parts rattle. Most shops will be able to diagnose and fix rattling issues for under $100, depending on local labor rates.

Bubbling paint is another complaint from Tundra owners at around 50,000 miles. Paint which is not properly cared for and left out in direct sunlight will start to fail and bubble as it ages. The only way to fix bubbling paint is to re-spray the affected areas. Repainting trucks costs around $1,000 per panel.

There are nine recalls on the 2018 Toyota Tundra, which is more than other full size trucks. The most serious recall is for the fuel pump which may fail. Toyota will replace the fuel pump on affected models for free. Many of the other recalls are for various airbags and weight capacity labels, which are not a mechanical concern.

How Long Will the 2018 Toyota Tundra Last?

A well-maintained 2018 Toyota Tundra can last over 350,000 miles, which is more than the very popular Ford F-150. Regular annual maintenance costs are lower than other full size trucks, according to data provided by Repair Pal at $518 per year.

As a used 2018 Toyota Tundra reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the throttle body for $700, the windshield wiper motor costing $350, as well as the stabilizer bar links which cost $200.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is very good in the 2018 Toyota Tundra since it comes standard with a 6.1-inch touchscreen. There’s a 7-inch touchscreen available on the SR5 and higher models. Unfortunately, the 2018 Tundra does not have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Safety technology is excellent since the 2018 Tundra comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense. Standard advanced safety features include a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, as well as automatic high beam headlights. Optional upgrades include front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, along with rear cross traffic alert.

Is the 2018 Toyota Tundra a Good Value?

Yes, the 2018 Toyota Tundra is a great value since it’s one of the longest lasting half-ton trucks on the market. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $31,102 to $50,539, making it more expensive than a Ram 1500 or Chevy Silverado 1500. When new, the price range was $31,320 to $50,330. In current market conditions there’s no real depreciation on full size trucks, although in normal conditions expect to lose about 6% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Toyota Tundra?

There are five models of the 2018 Toyota Tundra available, from the base SR all the way up to the luxurious 1794 Edition. The Tundra also is offered with two cabin configurations, three bed lengths, as well as rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

What Engines Come In the Toyota Tundra?

  • The base engine is a reasonably strong 4.6L V8 which makes 310 horsepower and 327 lb.-ft. of torque at up to 16 MPG. It comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission. It can tow up to 6,800 pounds with this engine.
  • An available upgrade is the more powerful 5.7L V8, which produces 381 horsepower and 401 lb.-ft. of torque while getting up to 15 MPG. This also has a six-speed automatic transmission. The towing capacity is improved, at up to 10,200 pounds. Performance is good, taking 6.5 seconds to go from 0-60 MPH.

What Colors Does the Toyota Tundra Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Toyota Tundra?

The 2018 Toyota Tundra is a very comfortable full size truck with seating for up to six passengers depending on the configuration. Seating is very nice throughout the cabin, offering a good amount of cushioning as well as durable long-lasting cloth or leather options.

Passenger room is great in the back seats of the Crew Cab model, but it’s a bit more cramped in the rear seats in the extended double cab model.

How Much Storage Space Does the Toyota Tundra Have?

There are three bed lengths available on the 2018 Toyota Tundra including a 5-foot-6-inch short bed, 6-foot-6-inch standard bed, as well as the full 8-foot long bed.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The second generation of the Toyota Tundra came out in 2007 and was replaced by the third generation in 2022.

2015: New TRD Pro model introduced for off-road performance, V6 engine discontinued. =

2016: Upgraded stereo system and standard trailer brake controller.

2017: No major changes.

2018: 2-door model discontinued, Toyota Safety Sense added as an optional upgrade.

2019: Upgraded suspension on TRD Pro model, BBS wheel options added.

2020: Apple CarPlay & Android Auto added, and the 4.6L V8 engine discontinued.

2021: Trail & Nightshade models added with new exterior accents.

How Does the Toyota Tundra Compare to the Competition?

The 2018 Toyota Tundra is one of the best full size trucks on the market since it has outstanding long-term reliability ratings and lower ownership costs than most of the competition.

The Ford F-150 is another full size truck which starts at about $6,000 less. Standard safety technology is better in the Toyota Tundra, while the Ford F-150 is more capable off-road. We recommend the Toyota Tundra since it is more affordable to own long-term, although both are great trucks worth taking a look at.

The Toyota Tacoma is a smaller truck offered by Toyota which costs around $3,500 less. Off-road performance is better in the Toyota Tacoma, while the Toyota Tundra has a higher towing capacity. We recommend the Toyota Tacoma since it’s easier to live with as a daily-driver, although the Tundra is better if you need to haul more gear.

Toyota tundra for truck of the year.
Smoothest ride of any vehicle I have owned. 2nd tundra. First one lasted well over 200,000 miles and decided tundras couldn’t be beat. Only issue is with the Entune radio system. Love the storage under the seat. As a local contractor, it has everything I need to keep my business mobile.

Have had many vehicles this is by far the best. Luxury in a truck.
Have had my Tundra over a year now. Rides much smoother than trucks I have had before. The dual exhaust really gives the vehicle a great sound when accelerating. Interior is very comfortable and instrumentals are easy to see and use without having to take eyes off the road. Back window lowers completely which helps circulate air on those cool days. My dog loves it too. Only downfall is gas mileage. Currently getting 16.5 per gal. I only live 5 minutes from work so for me I can live with that. Pulling capabilities is above industry standards. I have a camper that weighs 6500 lbs and can not feel it when pulling. The tundra comes with a brake assist to help slow down when pulling heavy cargo. Have had no mechanical problems with the vehicle. Live in the Midwest and it did great this past winter with just a couple of sandbags in the back.

The tundra is a big roomy and comfortable vehicle that make you feel in total control when driving! It is great on uphill and excellent on highway driving! Excellent performance and pulling (especially considering it is a 2wd). Very spacious and offers a lot of comfort for my family and for any friends that ride along with me. No problems as of yet. My tundra is very comfortable and there is plenty of room to seat six adults comfortably. The only complaint that I would have is that it does not get very good gas mileage. I love that my truck has the feature where you can roll down the window that separates the bed from the cab. This provides extra breeze when you want the windows down. I drive a 2018 Toyota tundra. It is my dream vehicle. When I test drove it, I immediately fell in love. I got the platinum cause I loved the leather seats and moon/ sun roof. It is a very smooth ride. I haven't had any issues that weren't regular wear and tear. It has been very reliable, and the safety features are awesome and helpful. Gas mileage is not too bad for a truck. I mostly drive in city limits. Long drives to a couple different states weren't too bad either as far as performance and gas. The ride is smooth as I said before. Cons, probably parking. Sometimes you do not get the greatest spots...

Awesome truck...!!!
Reliability is a big issue. Worked at an auto parts store for about 2 years and Tundra's were the last truck that customers came in with issues. Having drive 2 Tundra's for a past company, I knew my choice of personal truck would be a Tundra. I do agree with others about the fuel mileage, but research and you will find that a Tundra comes standard with a 3.91 rear end gear ratio. Compare a Silverado, F150 and Ram and see what there fuel mileage is. Comfort is excellent in the Tundra. Before buying your next truck, do the comparisons and you will be surprised about the Tundra..!!

My truck came with foglights, variable intermittent windshield wipers, satellite radio; navigation system; traffic information, backup camera; spacious with middle seat in the front; storage compartments under seats; center console tilt steering wheel; dimming rear view mirror; it is equipped with 5.7 liter v8, 38 gallons tank for gas, led headlights; 2-4 wheel drive. Another thing I love about my truck is the color. I have a cement gray color which I thought was very unique.

Family friendly all around vehicle.
Truly love this vehicle. When pulling the boat it does a great job and the towing package is great. We have had mechanical issues when working on phone transferring during use but other than that the car does great. I love the back seats and the features it has to allow maximum space when lifting the bottom of seat.

Motor reliability
Motor problem smoke like hell after 2 or 3 days without using it Toyota will open the motor in June Very disappointed Dealer do not hae an appropriate justification regarding this problem Toyota refuse to replace the motor just replace defective parts Truck have only 39300km I had never tow something

Winning with Toyota’s great technology and service.
The ride in our tundra is better than the ride we have every had with our Dodge rams. We are looking forward to having a rust free vehicle. We love all of the technology in Toyotas. Even in the baseline models. Great vehicle service plan, as well. Fun to drive.

2018 Toyota tundra limited.
My tundra is powerful enough to overcome the toughest obstacles, yet drives like a car. Very comfortable on the inside, sleek looking on the outside, and extensive features in the cab. 5.7l v8 makes you feel like you are driving a large truck while in the cockpit, yet you can easily hit 80 mph on highway without feeling like it. I recommend the Toyota tundra 100%.
