A great beginner car: efficient, reliable, fun ride.
It is fairly reliable as long as fluids and scheduled repairs are performed, none of which are very expensive I might add. The comfort of the car is quite nice for how small of a vehicle it is, you would expect a car of its size, a tiny hatchback to feel cramped but on the contrary there is plenty of headroom even for the tallest passengers. There is plenty of back seat head room. The car seats a total of five people however at maximum capacity the car can feel somewhat sluggish with it is little two liter. Trunk room in the car is adequate, while its not going to be hauling large couches and dressers it is surprising what you can transport especially if you lay the back seats down. The car is front wheel drive and its steering is known for feeling 'mushy' but I never had an issue with it. The lower end gl model does not have any features like cruise control or heated seats so that is something to keep in mind when buying, it is pretty bare bones. Some common problems of the mk4 2.0 are spark plugs, (wearing out quicker than they probably should). Catalytic converters wearing out and clogging up, electrical wiring issues, clear coat peeling. Not a bad car but I personally wish I would have bought a tdi model or a speedy gti but as a beginner's first car or as a reliable cheap commuter it is a fun ride.

Fun and easy to drive. Hatchbacks are great for moving.
Love the design of VWs. Fun to drive, easy to transport large items, mostly reliable. Repairs can be very expensive.

It's old, but has low mileage, oh, and it has a coolant leak.
It's old but it runs pretty good, fun to drive, gets me from point A to point B.

It drives well and it is a good reliable car.
I do not have any complaints about my car other than for it being a not so roomy. It is a pretty tight fit in volkswagens.

My car may be 17 years old, but it runs like new despite issues here & there.
My car is a manual 2001 VW, tdi, golf. I have had my car for about 7 years and I love it. When I bought it used, it had 131, 000 miles on it and it now has 236, 000 miles on it and still runs great. Before moving it used to get anywhere between 45 and 50 miles per gallon, but it went down to 35 to 45 after moving to an area with more traffic and need for ac. My car is also the perfect size, runs well, and has a lot of power. Since it is older, I have had issues here and there. In 2016 I had to get the transmission replaced because it kept popping out of gear, but it has run great since. My ac also went out a couple weeks ago, so I have been trying to get that fixed as well. Other than those two things I have had to get my glow plugs and ignition switch replaced. I still wouldn't trade my car and plan to drive it until it has no more life left, but I have hope it will last a while longer.

I have driven this car for several years and it has never let me down.
It gets great gas mileage, has never had any mechanical issues, always starts up right away, handles great. I do not like how lacking in power it is with a 2. 0 liter engine. It also does not have cruise control, or any power windows or seat controls.

Reliable and comfortable car that I'd recommend!
Have not had really any problems, mechanically. I have had to replace the battery recently, but that is after over 6 years of use. I have never had to stop on the highway, go in for non-standard maintenance, or anything crazy. It is a very reliable vehicle that is reasonably comfortable and has satisfactory features like ac, radio, and a reasonable amount of space.

My car is older, so bear that in mind, but I love the way it performs in general. It gets great gas mileage and is very comfortable to drive. I left off one point here because as it ages, the trim starts to melt and get sticky and there is some foam coming out of the air vents. Great car new, but needs more maintenance as it ages.

If you take care of it with regular maintenance it is a very reliable car.
Currently dealing with a brake fluid leak, due to everything being so tight under the hood it is difficult to work on unless you have the necessary lifts and tools. Recently had to change our brakes, had a hard time finding the right brake pads, than had to go to a different store for additional parts.

Expensive maintenance smooth car
My car has low mileage at 168,000 for owning it for 10 years. But it still has needed quite a bit of work which has been costly. The actual car still drives smooth but it just has been expensive to maintain.

Preventative maintenance is key
Runs great, I would just like to buy a new vehicle. We are the original owner and the car has been taken care of. As long as you take care of the vehicle and do preventative maintenance on it, you never have to worry about it breaking down on you. If I bought another car, I would still keep mine. It has 201,000 miles and runs great!
