Sleek and comfortable car!
I love my Jetta so much. The interior is so easy to clean and when the car has very good acceleration to it. The only problems I have had with it has been low tire pressure, which is normal and an easy fix. I have apple carplay in my car and it is so convenient and I use it everyday! I love the seat warmers in the winter also!

A quick rundown of a Jetta.
Seat warmers for the front seats, USB ports for phone charging, an in-car touch screen for music, GPS maps, and voice-to-text for a hands-free texting if you have android auto on your phone and synced with the car. The many features of this car are good ones, and 2 years with the car there have not been any problems repair-wise.
accountCircle Josh D
Smooth and reliable car, strongly suggest.
This vehicle is great! Runs smooth, reliable, seats are comfortable and there is far more room inside than it looks on it is sleek exterior. Only issue is the turbo feature can cause some problems. But if you routinely clean it, this will not be an issue.

2016 Volkswagen Jetta: wonderful fuel efficient car.
I love the great gas mileage and really easy to use dashboard. The backup camera is great and so helpful. Wonderful sunroof, heated seats, very comfortable leather. I only have 2 complaints. Somehow bugs can get stuck in the overhead lights and I had to remove the plastic light covering to empty them out once. The other issue is that the overhead sun blocker things are very small and do not really move a lot. When you put them down they barely block the sun from your eyes. Overall the downsides are very small compared to the benefits.

Now a Volkswagen guy for life
I have owned the Volkswagen Jetta turbo for several months now. I love how the car handles and has the get up and go when needed. The gas mileage on this car is phenomenal gets well over 30 mpg on highway. It has a comfortable spacious interior with heated seats. On the steering wheel controls. The in car radio system is great with Bluetooth functionality and a back up camera. I am now a Volkswagen guy for life.

I love that I can connect my phone via Bluetooth technology.
I love the digital features, touch screen, and extended warranty. I love the speed of the car as well as the gas per mileage and overall durability. It is a very comfortable car, compact but also roomy enough for 4 people to fit nicely. Nice size trunk.

It's safe and reliable. It drives great and is an amazing car
I love the gas mileage and my automatic doors. I love how much space I have in the trunk.

Great car that lasts and looks good doing it.
Great performance and comfort. Heated side view mirrors and seat warmers work great. Seats are not the easiest to clean. Very spacious for a smaller sedan. The first winter the coolant got low. No signing issues in 3+ years. Wish there were power seat adjustments and more cup holders.

I would not recommend this vehicle.
This car is very noisy. When I am driving with all of the windows closed, it sounds like I am in front of a plane engine. I feel every bump and rock in the road. If I drive through a puddle, I feel the water hitting the floor underneath me. If the windshield is wet, the water runs down and into the window as I start driving. The front running light bulbs burn out constantly, and I can't replace it myself, it is only a dealer repair.

Apple CarPlay always stops workings.
Oil leak is always an issue. Comfort is great and the gas mileage is great as well. Wish car had a nicer base model. Apple carplay stopped working and this is the 2nd time of me owning a VW where that has happened. Windshield wipers also do not last long.

It's a Volkswagen - never do business with Volkswagen.
The car is fine, it's a basic sedan. It's far too small for my tall husband and son to be comfortable. Most importantly, I will never ever do business with VW again, after they scammed me with their EPA diesel "defeat device."
accountCircle Courtney S
It is good on gas and it really does not give me too many problems.
It is too small. However I like that it look like a luxury vehicle and comes fully loaded. I always like that it is good on gas.

Do not buy VW's they are good for the first 16 months or so.
We are having issues with tire pressure and the starter on one of our cars. While it has a "turbo engine" it seems like I have to floor it to go from stop to go (like at a stop sign).

Great car in my book fast and furious.
Need to replace tires frequently. Other than that no issues, drives fast and smooth all the time. Great car. Has different shifting options and is a highly popular car from what I understand. There is however a recall on the shifter cause it might jump out of park.
accountCircle Jon D
Peppy commuter car with good gas mileage.
Good mileage, peppy and good sound system. Ride is a little bumpy and long drives are uncomfortable. Good commuter car. Easy to keep clean and fills up quick on gas. The car has good acceleration and is small and easy to get through traffic. The first battery died within a year.

My vehicle is a grey 2016 Volkswagen Jetta,4 door sedan.
The parts to my car are always expensive and each part has to be a certain part for it to work. It is sometimes very hard to find the parts or they have to be special made. The car is good on gas for the most part. I love the speed it's a very fast car.

What Do Critics Say About the Volkswagen Jetta?

  • Consumer Reports says the Jetta is an appealing small sedan offering a European driving experience, with average owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Jetta at 4.3/5, praising the excellent passenger room, but doesn’t like the loose steering.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the Jetta a 4.4/5, enjoying the sporty driving experience, while owners don’t like the lack of technology.

What Common Problems Does the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta Have?

Common problems found on the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta include worn-out clutches on the manual transmission models, excessive oil consumption, as well as noisy brakes. Overall, these problems are similar to other compact cars from 2016, although repair costs are higher due to parts being more expensive.

Worn-out clutches on the manual transmission models is a complaint from owners at around 30,000 miles. Manual transmission models only represent a small percentage of total Jetta models on the road. The original clutch tends to wear down faster than in other cars, which needs to be replaced. Changing out the clutch costs around $1,200, depending on local labor rates.

Excessive oil consumption is another issue mentioned by owners at around 100,000 miles. Some owners simply check the oil regularly, adding oil as needed. Other owners have replaced seals throughout the engine, which costs around $1,000 since it’s a labor-intensive process.

Noisy brakes also show up on some VW Jetta models at around 15,000 miles. Stock brake pads wear out quickly compared to aftermarket options. Changing out the brake pads costs around $400 for the original VW parts. Aftermarket brake pads, which last longer, are around $500.

There are 5 serious recalls on the 2016 VW Jetta which are worse than other compact cars. The most significant recalls cover the fuel rail, which can leak fuel, causing a fire. VW will replace the fuel rails on affected models for free. Other recalls include brake master cylinder issues, which VW will change for free as well.

How Long Will the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta Last?

A well-maintained 2016 VW Jetta should last around 250,000 miles, which is around 50,000 miles less than the top-rated Toyota Corolla. Regular annual maintenance costs are slightly more expensive than average, according to data from Repair Pal, at $469 per year.

Since many used 2016 VW Jetta models will have over 100,000 miles buyers should be prepared to replace the throttle position sensor for $325, wheel speed sensor costing $200, as well as the starter relay, which costs $100.

accountCircle Paul N

It had a recall for the manifold intake. It also has some issues with the main computer. Before you buy a used one check to make sure these two issues have been addressed. If not I would definitely ask for a lower price as the main computer cost about $800 to replace.

accountCircle Erin K

I have issues with the electric in the car. For example, the windows go all the way down when I am trying to put them back up. I sometimes lose connectivity from my phone for no reason (I am in good cell coverage area).

accountCircle Taylor D

I have not had any problems with it as of now. It has been very reliable for me and my needs which is so important to me.

accountCircle Michal R

As previously mentioned, the doors are somewhat heavy and there have been times when I thought I pushed them open enough but they would swing back at me. Other than that, I have been very happy with the car.

accountCircle Shayne E

It is a very reliable car and I have had no issues whatsoever. I cannot say enough good things about my Jetta.

accountCircle Catherine L

The Jetta is extremely reliable. I have not had any issues with it in four years. Every time I take my car in for an oil change it gets a clean bill of health.

accountCircle Christian D

I bought it used and it had 42k miles on it. No problems as of yet. Sometimes the seatbelt light will come on if I have something in the passenger seat.

accountCircle Colleen J

It is reliable to me. In my experience it does not have any unusual problems if you regularly maintain it as instructed.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is very good with a standard 5-inch touchscreen stereo as well as Bluetooth. Optional upgrades include a larger 6.3-inch screen, along with an upgraded stereo. Safety technology is average with an optional rear view camera, frontal collision warning, and emergency automatic braking.

Is the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta a Good Value?

Yes, the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta is a good value for an entry-level German sedan offering good reliability. Blue book prices range from $12,250 to $16,750, making it cheaper than a Honda Civic or Subaru WRX. When new, the price range was $17,680 to $26,410. Depreciation is similar to average, losing about 10% of its current value per year.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The sixth generation of the VW Jetta was launched in 2011, and was replaced by the seventh generation in 2019.

2014: The 5-cylinder engine was discontinued, rearview camera added as an optional upgrade.

2015: Some exterior styling changes, improved safety ratings, upgraded interior materials, and a more efficient diesel engine.

2016: New base engine added, touchscreen stereo system is standard, diesel engine unavailable due to diesel-gate.

2017: Rearview camera is standard on all models, USB connection added.

2018: Upgraded wheel designs available, new Wolfsburg edition model.

2019: Fully redesigned for the seventh generation with new styling, engines, and technology.

2020: Standard Car-Net communications system, wireless charging, and 6-speed manual on R-Line model.

How Does the Volkswagen Jetta Compare to the Competition?

The Volkswagen Jetta ranks among the best compact cars of 2016 since it offers more luxury than other small sedans, while still being a reliable choice.

The Volkswagen Passat is another sedan offered by VW which costs around $1,000 more. Passenger room is better in the Volkswagen Passat, while the Volkswagen Jetta has a sportier driving experience. We recommend the Volkswagen Jetta for most people since it’s more affordable to own, although both are good sedans.

The Honda Civic is a compact competitor which costs about $3,000 more. Standard technology is better in the Honda Civic, while the VW Jetta has a much nicer interior. We recommend the VW Jetta for 2016 since there are fewer complaints from owners, however, the competition is much closer in other years.

Do Owners Recommend the Volkswagen Jetta?

accountCircle Paul N

Yes, it's reliable and drives really nice. If you are buying one used check to make sure it has all the recall issues addressed. Then one I am aware of is the manifold intake. Also be aware that the main computer brain has had issues in this model, it is about $800 to have replaced.

Yes, for the most part. I have issues with the electrical components. The gas mileage is great and I love that I can hook my phone up to play podcasts, music, navigate, etc.

accountCircle Taylor D

Yes it is great! It drives well in the snow too. I feel that it is a heavy car so you feel grounded and secure.

accountCircle Michal R

It is been a very reliable car. We have not had any mechanical problems. The doors are somewhat heavy for someone with arthritis or limited mobility that can be a little challenging. This would not have been a vehicle I might have looked at but I have been very happy with my car. The seats are very comfortable and the radio and other control panel instruments are easy to manage. I seem to get fairly good gas mileage.

Low cost of ownership
Our 2016 Jetta SE has been a very good car. After 7 years and just about 100k miles, the cost of the car and maintenance since new is just under $20k. This includes a set of winter tires and wheels (bought used on CL). I do the basic maintenance myself, using Castrol Edge oil that VW recommends. The brakes, battery, and shocks are still original and average fuel economy is 36+mpg. I did have to replace the A/C actuator solenoid on the compressor, but that was a cheap and easy. Nice riding and fun to drive car.

I have had no problems with my vehicle's performance reliability or comfort. I love this car! It is so very good on gas too. I drove from Florida to North Carolina with one tank of gas. My Jetta is very comfortable on long trips. I do not believe that I have ever owned a vehicle that is more reliable as well.

I love my Jetta because it does really well I am the snow. Even though it is a front wheel drive, I haven't had too many issues with getting it up snowy hills. I did put winter tires on it just to help though. I have also noticed that the tire pressure light will come on if the temperature changes a bit, and the shop says that is pretty normal of Jettas.

Volkswagen Jetta is a reliable great car with great gas mileage.
I love my Volkswagen Jetta, in the 2 years I have owned this car I never had any issues with reliability or breaking down. It gets me to and from where I need to be. It doesn't take a lot to fill up your tank and the gas mileage is fantastic. I have 2 children in car seats and they both fit perfectly in the back seat with still a bit of room. Comfortable and reliable, a great quality car for the budget conscious.
The gas mileage I get with the Volkswagen Jetta is amazing. I usually get over 500 miles before I have to fill up again, which helps save me money. It is reliable and comfortable, though it is a little low to the ground which could be a hassle for those with long legs. I like the Bluetooth connectivity, too. I didn't get the one with Bluetooth, but the rest of the dash has worked well. Leather seats never looked “used”. It has a good zip when I press the gas and need to zip around a little. Honestly, no problems. Gas mileage is good. I do wish I had steering wheel controls though, but I assume that comes with the Bluetooth model.

It is a very cost-effective car. I love its design, blue and elegant and very simple to navigate. Also it comes with backup mirror and bluetooth that helps me connect my phone to the screen of the car, which is very useful when I am using google map while listening to music. I like the sound quality too. The car is not too expensive, just over 10k which is within my budget. It is quite fuel-efficient, so I do not have to pump gas into it too often. Nothing but good things to say about my Jetta.
I have generally enjoyed my experience driving my 2016 Volkswagen Jetta. Though I was initially skeptical, it has come to be the most reliable car in my family's household. My favorite feature of the car is the amount of storage space that is contained within. I am a college student and need plenty of room to get all of my possessions to and from school, and my Jetta does the job. Before buying my Jetta this past spring which replaced my 2003 dodge Dakota, I was worried that I wouldn't find another car within my budget that had the same storage capabilities.

I love my Jetta. It gets great gas mileage and is a easy car to drive. My one complaint is that it seems to need to be serviced pretty often, but I hear that is typical of Volkswagens. I really like how it looks from the outside and the inside is spacious and clean.

Car to buy! No other like it! Highly recommend!
I love my car! Extremely comfortable, child friendly, amazing ac! Highly recommend! There’s no other car like it. If I could buy another one, I definitely would! The trunk is very spacious, lots of room for storage! It is a perfect little car with amazing mileage per gallon.

It has great fuel economy and is very reliable. The look of the car is very nice and is also very comfortable.
I really like the Jetta. One of my favorite features is the dashboard display. I also love the fact that the on board navigation is always updated.

My favorite thing about the car is the heated seats; easy access to the trunk.
Volkswagen has a warranty for 6 years/75,000 miles and that is the best part about it. Comfortability and reliability is 10/10. It is the second car I have had, but a perfect car for a young driver. It is dependable, safe, durable, and very sleek. I have only had one problem with the battery, but VW companies make sure that they handle whatever is needed to get you back on the road in a timely manner.

Reliable and comfortable German car.
Recall problem with the car; otherwise, reliable car with average comfort and features. Roomy for a sedan, with extra space available in the trunk. Bluetooth enabled, and multiple ports available for charging, etc. With regular maintenance, the car runs as it did when first leased three years ago.

An amazing vehicle. The Volkswagen Jetta is an amazing vehicle.
I have not had any problems with my Jetta. The performance of it is truly awesome. It has Bluetooth connection, cruise control, fob, w/trunk to open button. It is very reliable.

2016 Volkswagen Jetta review.
Engine has had problems recently. Other than that, it is been very reliable. It is comfortable and easy to drive. It is steering is loose, which is the way I like it. It is undergoing maintenance right now and I have been using my other car since yesterday.

Volkswagen Jetta tsi - pro v. Con.
Thai Jetta is great! The performance and power with the turbo is unmatched for affordable price you can get all the bells and whistles added. It is dependable and eye pleasing. Downside to this Jetta is I have I already had to have the radiator fans replaced. Although under warranty, I felt was too new to have such an issue.

Very reliable Volkswagen.
I haven't had any problems with the vehicle. It has great acceleration, handling, and fuel mileage. The comfort on long road trips is phenomenal. I would certainly recommend the Jetta to and car buyer if they are looking for reliability the Jetta is it.

The most important thing is safety for me.
I like the Jetta because it has a comfortable ride. The trunk is very large and has handled anything I have needed to put in it. I feel safe driving my 3 grand daughters to their sports activities.

Volkswagen continues to perform.
No issues after 5 years. I bought new tires last year. I have observed scheduled maintenance. I have not had any major repairs during the past 5 years. I am very pleased with the car’s performance and handling. I had my first accident last year after more than 40 years driving. My seat belt did its job in restraining me and the airbag did not deploy. The front end took the hit however despite the impact it did not affect the engine.

Luxury for a small price.
I've always been a huge fan of VW and this car doesn't disappoint. It drives and looks like a luxury car and it's great on gas mileage. The inside of the car is very nice and gives off an expensive feel. The sound system in the car is great and I love the big touch screen in the car.

Jetta is more heavy than others same size car, get much better control driving, more saver
Powerful and smooth, fun to drive. Also get higher gas mileage, save money

I love my 2016 Volkswagen Jetta.
This car is not only pretty, but runs efficiently and is mostly reliable. The gas mileage is really good, it accelerates well, and I haven't run into any issues yet. Upkeep is important, but overall I would recommend a Jetta to anyone who does not need a lot of space and just needs a decent car.

I love my awesome brown Jetta!
No problems with performance at all. Just would like a larger vehicle. The car gets great gas mileage and is very comfortable and feels safe. The service has been great. I have taken it in many road trips and have no complaints about that. The biggest issue is we are hoping to grow our family and need a bigger car.

The best car I have ever had.
I love my car. It is easy to drive and not too big, not too small. It is easy to get fixed, people know how to work on the car. I have never had any issues, besides tire issues. It speeds up nicely and drives smoothly. I enjoy driving it. I even have CarPlay, which is nice to have my GPS on my screen so I do not have to be looking at my phone. Also being able to make phone calls through it. The best car I have ever had. It is made all of my trips no issues.

Well, I don't pay a lot of attention on what others think about my car. It is my vehicle to meet my transportation needs and that's it
I like the brand and everything it means. Safety, gas consumption, external look, etc

It should always be shiny and very clean.
I love how smooth it drives. Also like that it gets 35 mpg. And I absolutely love the backup camera.

VW Jetta: very economical and reliable car.
I bought the Jetta because of its simplicity and cost. For the price, it is a very efficient car. I gets good gas mileage and drives smooth. After about 6 years of owning, the center touch screen acts up sometimes. It has great trunk space as well. It is a very spacious and comfortable vehicle.
