Spunky utility with a kick.
It has capabilities of a SUV, but drives like a car! Very easy to get in and out of, no stopping low or climbing up needed. I have great visuals all around and no blockage of views or sight lines. Vehicle has great spunk! I can get a great boost and quick acceleration for merging and passing. I am accustomed to manual transmissions, but this automatic gives me very similar control and pick up. I love how cute it is and unique to other designs of crossovers! I am a driver and this fits all my previous VW’s in the “drivers wanted” realm!

Good car for young people or for families.
This car is great for a young single person. I can also see myself getting married and having a kid or two and still being able to use this car. It has decent gas mileage and drives very smoothly. It looks good, without costing an insane amount of money.

Compact & Petite from the outside but comfy & roomy from the inside!
I just love my car! It looks compact & cute from the outside but it's actually very comfy & roomy inside & the engine runs super especially I use the simulated manual

My vehicle is a 2013 Volkswagen tiguan. It is black with a moonroof.
We had some issues with the vents not working right when we first got it, but since then there have been no issues! It was still under warranty when we noticed so it wasn't much of a hassle to get taken care of either! This is probably my favorite car I have owned.

4 wheels drive, comfortable seat
I like it is 4 wheels drive and it's not too big just enough for family use.

Compact but roomy with a comfortable ride.
I love the compact size but roomy interior, was worried when I downsized from a highlander but the back has enough room. Rides smoothly with good pickup. I have had only one problem, the drainage tubes to the panoramic sunroof broke at the seam (common problem I have heard) and caused a lot of water to come in and a very expensive fix. They are very hard to get to.

She rides just as smooth as a 2018, if you take care of your car it will take care of you.
First of all I love my Volkswagen Tiguan, she has a moonroof. I have leather heated seats and heated side mirrors.and I also have navigation. She is red and very comfortable. My back is roomy and comfortable. She rides very smooth with No problems.

Turbo and great mileage. Compact yet roomy.
It's a great car and it looks good. Roomy, fast, safe, smooth, and comfortable. A turbo with tons of room, a mommy missile if you will. So far this is the best car I ever owed. My wife and son love it too. German engineering at its finest. Nothing but good things to say about this car.

Volkswagen is a money pit.
My car takes premium and is a gas hog, it costs me so much to fill up my tank and then it feels like the gas is gone within no time. The car itself rode really nicely when I first purchased it, now after 7 years I'd Definitely does not ride as nicely. Also, repairs are expensive for Volkswagens and not everyone is qualified to perform them since they are different than other American brands. I do like some of the added features however, like my windows which I can roll down with the quick touch of the window button. I also like the hands-free capability (Bluetooth) and way that my windshield wipers change speed based on the severity of the rain. Also, the car is pretty spacious for a small SUV.

It is a great car if the parts are working properly.
My car unfortunately is in the shop getting fixed. It has a problem with the transmission and I am quite discouraged. I am not happy with the dealer who after three tries was unable to find the problem.
accountCircle Katie A
It goes downhill. Fast!!
1) the windows are at a slant so water will run into the car on the door controls. 2) we had to have the clock spring in the steering wheel replaced multiple times, it is a know issue but only the first repair was covered by warranty. 3) if the car is low on oil it will seriously start to malfunction.

Wanted to love this car but it won’t let you
It seems that every few months my check engine light is on, something is failing, or it just has general issues. I want to love this car because the size is great, its such a comfy interior and I love the look of it. However after 5 years of owning it, I have had to replace Two batteries, replace all the spark plugs(after it stopped working while I was on the interstate), alternator gave out at 75,000 miles, and craziest of all to me was needing a new water pump at 60,000 miles. These problems don’t seem major but considering the time frame It has been a demanding car for one that still doesn’t have 80,000 miles on it. With the money spent on repairs, I should have just spent more on the front end and gotten something more reliable. All this money on top of general upkeep and a set of new tires hasn’t ended up being the value car I hoped for.

Very comfortable but many issues.
It is a very comfortable car and drives super smooth. I have only had it for about 3 years and have had quite a few issues. I had to get the coolant pump fixed and the back seat locking mechanism went out so I am unable to lay the seat down. The gas flap gets stuck if closed so we just have to close it to and not actually lock it otherwise we cannot get to the gas cap.

Great car but costly upkeep.
When I first bought the car, it was lovely. Then 10,000 miles in I had engine issues. It was a lease to the dealer took care of it. Since that time everything in this car has been pretty good. I am having some brake issues but was able to get that resolved going to a specialty auto shop that focuses on European/German vehicles. That is has been my biggest complaint thus far. Maintenance for this car is incredibly expensive, specially if you are having a problem.

Overall, this is a comfortable car that with some minor design issues.
I have had a few issues related to my car's oil consumption car throughout the past few years that make me hesitate to say that it is very reliable. I also feel that the car's ergonomic design leaves a lot to be desired - for example, accessing the cup holders can be awkward. Aside from these, the car is comfortable and I like that the seats and surfaces are easy enough to clean. Performance in other areas is satisfactory.

Great mileage and smooth ride.
Breaks are an issue but drives smoothly. Overall great car. Great gas mileage. Very comfortable. Good size. Perfect car for family. No issues. Safe. Affordable. Not many issues. Great features. Volkswagen is a great car brand. Would buy another. Best car ever.

Steering issues will kill someone one day!!!
While driving my 2013 Tiguan on highway (80mph) the steering locked up and steering light came on. I was able to steer a little but it was extremely stiff, jumped across three lanes and almost wreaked! I had the wife and son in the car when it happened. Apparently the steering rack and harness went bad (72000 on car) the cost of repair was 2500$ out of pocket. Reading online about a lot of complaints about the same failure. Holding on to the repair bill until VW get off its a$$ and issues a recall on the steering rack!!! Other then almost getting killed, the rest of the car is solid, but what good is a car if you can’t steer?!?

The features in my car are ahead of their time.
My car is beautiful and was probably very ahead of it is time as far as technology. Aux, USB, multiple charging outlets, seat warmers, and Bluetooth technology. I will say that some of the features were a bit difficult to figure out; I ended up having to google “how to”.

Pros from Owners

likeFilled Nicole H.

It is compact so fits well in most parking garages and still has enough room for 5 people. It is comfortable and drives well. So far I have not had anything major wrong with the car outside of new wheels and battery. The car has good power and with the all wheel drive it can drive well in many conditions.

likeFilled Ashley H.

Reliable and affordable. Fits my family comfortably and safe. Vehicle has great Bluetooth features heated side mirrors. I enjoy driving this vehicle as I commute far for work. This vehicle has low road noise.

Cons from Owners

dislikeFilled Nicole H.

It is not very fuel efficient on average I have 22 miles. It also takes premium gas which is more expensive than regular fuel. Outside of that for me personally I would like a larger car but that is not a con for everyone of course.

dislikeFilled Ashley H.

Cons is could have more trunk space. The vehicle takes premium gas and that could be expensive at times. Car also takes synthetic oil for oil changes which is expensive as well. I wish my vehicle had a sunroof.
