Sleek, stylish, and efficient. The Infiniti Q50, a compact executive automobile, delivers more than you might expect from a Nissan. We expect brands like Hyundai, Honda, and Nissan to make efficient safe compact cars. We don’t expect them to produce exciting luxury models. The 2020 Infiniti Q50 is a notable exception.

What are the specs of an Infiniti Q50?

Let’s start with these key specs:

  • Leather, piano black, and chrome interior features
  • Safety features like collision detection, blind spot monitoring, a 360-degree backup camera, and front and rear sonar sensors
  • Galvanized steel/aluminum body panels for a strong exterior with a light curb weight of just 3,685-3,842 pounds

Enticed? Thankfully, in this article, we’ll cover all the specs you need to know about the Infiniti Q50, allowing you to make an educated buying decision that you won’t look back on.

A Look Back at The Infiniti Q50

The Infiniti Q50 debuted in 2013 as a 2014 model year, based on the Infiniti Essence. The first generation was designed by Joel Baek with an innovative asymmetrical cabin layout.

The first model year was a success with 17,816 units sold. The model’s peak was in 2016, selling 44,007 units, and Nissan has maintained strong sales numbers since.

With the Infiniti series, there’s a line of luxury cars that offer the comfort of a Lexus or a BMW, with the fuel-efficiency, dependability, and reasonable pricing of a compact.

Under the Hood

The Infiniti Q50 feels like a luxury car, but does it drive like one? To find out, look at several of its performance specifications.

The 3.0L V6 Twin Turbo DOHC delivers 300 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. The car comes with seven-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, and can hit 60 mph in seven seconds.

The 20-gallon tank will get you 20/29 miles to the gallon city/highway, you have 13.2 cubic feet of cargo capacity, and an estimated 3,000 pounds of towing capacity. The car isn’t built for towing, but if you ever need to pull your kid’s compact home, you’ll be up for the task.

As for NHTSA crash test ratings, it actually hasn’t been rated by the NHTSA, being a new model. But the 2015 has a 5-star overall safety rating. Keep an eye on this link and wait for NHTSA to post the results.

A Luxury Feel

The Q50’s draw: luxury feel at a compact price. How does it achieve that?

The leather/leatherette seating, door trim, shifter knob and steering wheel go a long way to making the interior look and feel nice. The eight-way power bucket seats in front feel great, and the stylish piano black interior trim and chrome accents add a touch of class.

Drivers receive under seat HVAC vents, key fob controls, full carpeting, a trip computer, an engine mobilizer, and smart device integration. Everything you want from a luxury car, you’ll find in a Q50.

What are Drivers Saying?

No matter the specs, what really matters is driver opinions/consumer reviews.

Pros:

  • Luxury experience at a low price
  • High-tech features are deeply appreciated
  • Features like rear sonar sensors and collision detection make this a very safe-feeling car

Cons:

  • Direct Adaptive Steering can make the steering feel kind of numb
  • No manual transmission options
  • Some reviewers feel the interior styling, though tasteful, feels a little “previous-generation”
